Breastpad recommendations for over enthusiastic breasts!

spilttheteaagain · 12/02/2012 11:19

DD is nearly 6 months and still I am constantly wearing breastpads, changing them about 4 x a day, frequently leaking through them and soaking bra and top as well, and I am totally fed up of it.

I'm using the Tommee Tippee disposables which are the best disposable I've tried.

Are washable pads more absorbant? Probably more economical given how many I am using!

Can anyone recommend any good washable pads for those with an enthusiastic supply/let down??

what about LilyPadz?

4madboys · 12/02/2012 11:49

i had mega over enthusiastic breasts and i used the johnsons ones, depending on where you shop they vary a lot in price, i found waitrose to the cheapest bizarrely! but i really liked them :)

my friend has lilypadz and she said they werent good if you leaked a lot.

BobbieSox · 12/02/2012 11:51

I'm with you here! I find the Tommee Tippee the best disposables too, but I get through them at a rate - I bought Boots own washables which I find aren't as absorbent, sadly, but if I am having an 'empty' day they might be okay...I also bought LilyPadz which kind of work but they dont stop the milk coming out altogether, just end up trapping it in a kind of milky pond which then spills out when you take them off...not ideal.

So just to warn you if your letdown is in any way forceful then Lilypadz may not be the answer, unless I'm just doing it wrong.

It's a pain, isn't it? Let me know if you find something wonderful that does work/is cheaper then constantly replacing disposables!

I found the Lansinoh ones better than the TT ones. They stay much drier!

TickledOnion · 12/02/2012 14:28

I've tried Tommee Tippee, Johnsons, Avent and Lansinoh.
Lansinoh are the best by far. A bit more expensive but well worth it as they actually work.
Lilypadz are a good idea but don't really work.

SardineQueen · 12/02/2012 14:33

I used Lansinoh pads, found them to be the best.

i didn't try any washable ones though, or lilypadz

I like lansinoh the best too. They stay the driest.

rosebery · 12/02/2012 18:20

Another one for lansinoh! They are amongst the more expensive ones, but IMO totally worth it. Already have my supply ready for when dc2 arrives in a couple of weeks time ...

showtunesgirl · 12/02/2012 19:11

Amazon sell Lansinoh pads at the best price. I've just ordered another 4 boxes!

HandMini · 12/02/2012 19:14

I'm another one for whom Lilypadz were a waste of money...some unfortunate incidents when one of them burst off leaving me looking as though someone had thrown a cup of milk down my top, but appeared to the onlookers round the table to have come from nowhere.

GeetTallBird · 12/02/2012 19:17

Lilypadz are amazing, you gently press your nipple into your breast with the heel of your hand then the lilypad sticks on with suction.

HandMini · 12/02/2012 19:18

Maybe I did it wrong. Maybe my nipples are UNCONTAINABLE.

GeetTallBird · 12/02/2012 19:33

Quite possibly!!! :) can't use them for the first 6 weeks I remember?

SardineQueen · 12/02/2012 20:11

I think I am in the company of fellow towel people here Grin

It's the thing I hated about BF, having to wear a bra all the time, having to sleep with a towel under, randomly getting wet spots on my clothes...

spinaltap · 12/02/2012 20:20

I found washable ones soaked through pretty quickly, so I ended up using them with a disposable pad on top. Double protection!

sleepdodger · 12/02/2012 20:26

Johnson ones- though the asda ones are ok but not as thick x

spilttheteaagain · 12/02/2012 20:38

Thanks all, looks like I need to order some Lansinoh ones, I haven't tried those as they aren't in the local shops. Slightly Shock at the price of them though!

Only Lansinoh work for me. Get them on amazon and they're a bit cheaper

SardineQueen · 12/02/2012 21:04

I found I got through them less and they were more comfortable, so may be cost effective given the amount of pads you are getting through Smile

JasperJohns · 12/02/2012 21:06

I used Johnson ones but went through about 6 pairs a day. Spent far more on breast pads than on nappies!

OneLittleBabyGirl · 12/02/2012 21:56

It's as sardine queen says. I found I use less of lansinoh than other brands. With johnsons I have to change after every feed as they become as fat as a used nappy. Blush Asda and Sainsbury own brand, well, they feel wet all the the time!

OneLittleBabyGirl · 12/02/2012 21:59

And I am already saving money by not using breast pads at home, so I can reuse them over multiple feeds! I still have to chunk a pad in the bin per feed for anything not lansinoh. If I'm out, I found after feeding, even the lansinoh go a bit lumpy from the milk and uncomfortable.

littlepinkfizz · 13/02/2012 15:22

Tomme tipee! Sainsburys just too itchy and boots own were the same! X

notcitrus · 13/02/2012 15:33

i found lansinoh better than tt or any of the useless non-sticky ones, and washables lasted about 5 minutes.
But after a few months only 1 breast leaked so I stopped using that one and continued bfing leak-free for another 8 months - may be an option for someone?
