Good for you! :)

TruthSweet · 04/05/2011 19:53

Well done - it's a relief when you get that first time over with!

moondog · 04/05/2011 19:54

That's lovely.
It is so liberating to just take of with a napppy or two in your pocket and nowt else to worry about.
How old is the babe? Where were you?

EldonAve · 04/05/2011 19:57

well done

RhinestoneCowgirl · 04/05/2011 19:58

gkys · 04/05/2011 19:58

good for you, the first time is a bit daunting, you'll be feeding on buses and all sorts soon Grin really pleased for youxx

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 04/05/2011 20:00

The first time is the worst, but also the most liberating.

Well done - the world is once again your oyster Grin

Well done Grin It can be scary the first time but once you've cracked it then you can feed anywhere.

chimchar · 04/05/2011 20:03

its all downhill from here! Wink

you will have no shame soon.....my boobs have been out in all sorts of places! Grin

well done.

fartingfran · 04/05/2011 20:06

Be warned, soon you'll be like me and whipping them out here there and everywhere. Now I have two I'm so distracted I sometimes forget I'm not in the living room at home. Yes, I am that woman who is responsible for the disgusted cries of "there's no need to flaunt them like that, it's revolting!". Yes, I am the woman with the spaniel's ears flapping around while I re-tie shoelaces, wipe snotty noses and answer phonecalls. Only the other day I got in from the supermarket and realised I'd spent the preceding two hours with one tit very obviously 6" lower than the other, having forgotten to hook up my bra again after a feed Blush

fartingfran · 04/05/2011 20:07

Hpe that doesn't put you off doing it again BTW - well done! :)

moondog · 04/05/2011 20:08

My first time was in a quiet corner of a Pizza Hut (first and only time to go. I ate what looked like a cardboard disc topped with dogfood.) Thought it was all quiet and discreet and when I came out (it was dark) realised I had been on display in a large well lit up plate glass window, on full view to an enormous retail park in Warrington.

cocoachannel · 04/05/2011 20:15

Well done!

I had bad experience the first time I did it, with a lady coming and telling me off for distressing my baby by public feeding. She was ten days old and I burst into tears.

Happily things have got much better since, and I now am much more brazen (DD's 10 weeks).

I think the place that has raised the most eyebrows was at the Oval cricket ground. I was sitting in the family enclosure FFS, but still got some odd looks!

Moondog- that is priceless!!

Cosmosis · 04/05/2011 20:55

well done! YOu'll soon be feeding in all sorts of places :) I have fed all over and only ever had lovely supportive comments from people.

LoonyRationalist · 04/05/2011 21:03

Congratulations - It really feels like a milestone doesn't it. Won't be long before you barely have to plan your outings at all Grin

ChunkyPickle · 04/05/2011 21:04

Well done! I was super-nervous the first time too, but after a while the bolshy-ness came through and I found it more fun than feeding at home where there was no-one to talk to.

I just fed in the middle of Costco (sat on one of the garden furniture displays) - the friend I was with was very concerned and kept trying to drape me with a towel, but everyone else just looked, got that small smile they get when they realise what's going on and carried on shopping.

onepieceofcremeegg · 04/05/2011 21:08

:) it gets easier from now on.

I was once approached by a lady well into her seventies (at least) who came bustling over in an M&S cafe. I thought "Uh oh" because I had heard of someone who had had a bad experience there.

Anyway, she came over and remarked very loudly and cheerfully how lovely to see a tiny baby being fed by its mother, how fantastic to see dh and I out and about enjoying time as a family. (her elderly companions were visibly cringing) Grin

She also said that she had bf in public in a restaurant and it was a big no no when her baby was small but she didn't care. She said a man had made rude comments or stared and she had looked right out him and said very boldly why was he staring and did he want a closer look. She said that even all those years ago she felt it was right to be out and about and not hiding away at home (I think she is right)

She made us laugh and she gave me loads of confidence.

suburbanslob · 04/05/2011 21:27

What lovely, lovely comments! It was in a pub (nice family one). I was getting stressed when he started getting hungry as I hate locking myself in the loos for half an hour. It was my hubby who suggested it as we were in a nice quiet corner and I thought 'what the hell'. Lovely sense of achievement and I could enjoy nice conversation rather than looking at the back of a toilet door. He is four weeks now so my next challenge is expressing...will let you all know how that one goes!

fartingfran · 04/05/2011 21:32

Don't you dare feed in the loo ever again! You've every right to sit and enjoy a comfy seat and so does your baby. Well done again :)

Well done you should feel really proud of yourself and well done for having such a supportive DH as well it can really make all the difference :)

tattycoram · 04/05/2011 21:45

Aw brilliant. It definitely gets easier. I'm bf-ing at the mo and have got much more relaxed about it - DS2 is now six months and they are very speedy eaters at that age, if prone to looking around now and then

PoppyDoolally · 05/05/2011 23:23

well done!! isn't it just wonderful to be able to feed your baby whenever and whereever needed!!!

suburbanslob · 07/05/2011 10:17

Yes it's great Poppy! Also I'm of the mindset now of why should my son go hungry to stop other people feeling uncomfortable :)
