EBF DS has not done a poo for a fortnight...

I keep telling myself this is fine, but is it?
EBF, 16lbs, 18 weeks old and we live in a hot country. Plenty of wet nappies ( at least 5-6 a day), is not dehydrated and has just been through a developmental spurt, as of today he is obsessed with rolling over and over and over.

No HVs here and it's not really a BF culture, so any help ould be appreciated...

Ta.

Marking place as intrigued to know what the poonami will be like after dealing with a measely six days worth of pent up poo from DD this morning and that was a bath and full change of clothes effort.

Good luck!

ItsallabouttheBunnyBunnyBunny · 25/04/2011 17:58

Same here morebounce - we had a seven day effort here yesterday, and it was up to his armpits!
Looking forward to hearing of the arrival of poo.

MummyElk · 25/04/2011 21:18

hello there (love the fact people now watching this thread for a poonami Smile )
Have you actually tried anything other than breastmilk? my DD2 was similar, she went for yonks and yonks without pooing - then generally, as others have said, she'd go either AS i phoned the Dr Hmm, or as i poured out a spoonful of lactulose.... Grin. What definitely definitely worked was either Orange Squash, or Orange Juice - just a little bit (via syringe). 18wks is a lot older than my LO was so I'm sure his gut will take it.
FWIW I mentioned her constipation to a BF cllr much much later, in passing, and she immediately picked up on it...she actually said I should have tried cranial osteopathy because "there was obviously much more going on there". I obviously didn't and so cannot tell you what WAS going on there... but thought I'd pass it on, in case it's an option for you??

HipHopOpotomus · 25/04/2011 22:17

DC2 is due on Thursday - I feel like I'm in a wee race with the poonami :). What will arrive first?

Woodlands · 25/04/2011 22:22

My DS was also an infrequent pooer pre-weaning, he frequently went about 10 days or so. I did mention it to my GP who wasn't much use, but she did suggest warm water with or without brown sugar in. However I reckoned that as long as he was not in any discomfort I wouldn't worry. I second the recommendations for white designer clothes etc...

HipHopOpotomus · 25/04/2011 22:29

Small amount of fresh Oj with brown sugar gas worked for DD on the past. Never used it before she was weaned though.

notasgreenasiamcabbagelooking · 25/04/2011 22:33

Just to let you know my ds went for 24 days without poohing when he was about 4 months old.

The farts were so smelly I remember being very embarrassed that people would never believe they'd come from such a small baba and blame me.

ninedragons · 26/04/2011 03:00

Ah yes, the farts.

DD (8 weeks) is currently doing a poo about once every 10 days (usually involving chucking away whatever outfit she is wearing when the poo hits) but her farts are real open-all-the-windows-and-go-out-for-an-hour jobs. They're like mustard gas.

Drum rollIt has occurred! 21 days later to the very hour!...

The tumeric tide struck 3pm Easter Monday ( sorry, was dying to update you all but the internet went wobbly). DH took him upstairs after a particularly evil parp to change him ready for swimming, found he had pooed a reasonable amount - he had also produced a Milky Way sized amount earlier, which was a bit of a let down - and as we both came to see what had been produced and he was on the changing table, up went his legs and it flowed out, a bit like he was an icing sugar bag and he was icing the changing table with chocolate fudge icing. On and on and on and on and on and on...we were laughing hysterically and catching the poo-river with handfuls of bog roll. 3 nappy bags of bogroll and poo later, he grinned and did high kicks.

Then I took him for a swim, and he appeared very thoughtful and contemplative.

Grin

I knew you'd all be so pleased for us all.

Ah fantastic! Bet he feels amazing now. You've given me a HUGE smile. Well done young man

ItDoesntBodenWell · 26/04/2011 15:21

Love the fact that you had gone up to have a look, I do that too!

Sounds very satisfying for all involved :o

therethere · 26/04/2011 16:04

Yay! I am thrilled The Poo has finally happened. Thank you for the update. My son's 16 day record now seems measly in comparison. Yay again!

faveroyalles · 26/04/2011 18:06

Hooray! :o

sdotg · 26/04/2011 18:29

Alas am too late to help but DS did this with every growth spurt whilst ebf and even at 15 months goes a bit haywire with each new batch of teeth, although we didn't reach 21 day record. Impressive.

MummyElk · 26/04/2011 22:08

genius Grin

ninedragons · 28/04/2011 14:02

I was thinking of this thread today when DD did her poo after a week and a half.

She looked like a marshmallow that had been dipped in chocolate fondue. All sweet and pink and puffy at one end, and dripping in molten brown goo at the other. (Note molten brown, not Molton Brown, which would smell MUCH better)

I sing her a little song:

You're a lovely baby
And I love you
Every ten days
You do a poo

Miffster · 28/04/2011 17:17

Heh :)

Nothing since the poonami, but am chilled about it now. He is a 'everything in my own good time' baby.

Is feeding like mad at the moment. Has just learned to roll back as well as roll onto his tummy and is clearly knackered by the whole thing. Must be a big development spurt from 17-19 weeks.

I am coming late to the party but I suddenly remembered the saga and am howling at this. Has right cheered me up.

My boy is an at-least-once-a-day baby.

Laughin at my desk at work reading this thread. As a pregnant first timer I never knew poo could take on such a narrative or be so funny!
