AIBOversensitive to be pissed off that Mr Tumble made the assumption that a baby's milk came in a bottle?

I am, aren't I?

Yep Smile

Because milk for lots of babies does come in a bottle

That's not passing a judgement, it's just fact. And what lots of the viewers of CBeebies see on a daily basis

ThatDamnDog · 20/10/2010 14:13

Hmm. True, but it would be nice to see breastfeeding normalised as much as formula feeding is where kids are concerned. Think I'm having a touchy day.

I agree with you - it would be nice to see an even balance of BF and FF on TV

ThatDamnDog · 20/10/2010 14:15

Should probably get off my high horse anyway, given the fact my 3 year old's glued to the tv while I feed his sister and sit on my arse on Mumsnet!

What exactly did Mr Tumble say? (not seen that episode)

jemjabella · 20/10/2010 14:17

No. It's just one more way of indoctrinating our children into thinking that bottles are the way to go.

ComeWhineWithMe · 20/10/2010 14:18

Mr Tumble had a bf Mum on a couple of months ago.

notnowbernard · 20/10/2010 14:19

But it's not "indoctrinating" them

It's a programme aimed at pre-schoolers

It's devised to reflect their everyday experiences

Many viewers may still drink from a bottle, may have siblings fed with a bottle

But I agree would be good to see both ways of feeding on-screen

(I have seen BF on a CBeebies programme before - can't remember which one though)

ThatDamnDog · 20/10/2010 14:20

He was gettready to look after a baby and got a bottle out of the fridge. Fair enough, he couldn't feed it himself. And it turned out to be a kitten. But that's not the point. [harrumph]

^ In that case I take it back.

(Now is probably a good time to admit I have no idea who Mr Tumble is anyway... Blush)

jemjabella · 20/10/2010 14:20

That was aimed at ComeWhineWithMe btw

ThatDamnDog · 20/10/2010 14:21

Sorry. Bloody useless phone.

They had another programme on where she took her toddler and baby to the park and it showed a shot of the Mum bf baby.

ThatDamnDog · 20/10/2010 14:24

Ah good. They must have pre-empted my outrage.

jemjabella · 20/10/2010 14:24

Lol @ pre-empted

If it came from the fridge it could have been expressed breast milk. if it was formula her would have had to boil the kettle, wait 30 mins... etc. The programme's not that long! Grin

scruffymuff · 20/10/2010 14:30

Yes- there should be dolls which come with fake boobs for your child to strap on which can be filled up with pretend milk and they should have nipples that actually fit in the dolls mouth so the doll can 'really' breastfeed! Hmm

Wow Scruffy you should go on Dragon's Den and pitch that idea.
What a way to raise awareness on BF ...go you!
Could be next years No1 Xmas toy.

jemjabella · 20/10/2010 14:36

Was going to reply to scruffy but ComeWhine's post way better than mine Grin

loonyrationalist · 20/10/2010 14:40

Scruffymuff - you don't need equipment for bf (even pretend bf ;) ) my dd bf's her dolls, just hoicks up her top!!

Sidge · 20/10/2010 14:43

YABU - if Mr Tumble taught the Makaton sign for 'breast' at 0945 on a weekday morning there would be outrage across the nation Grin

jemjabella · 20/10/2010 14:45

Out of interest, what is the sign for breast?
