BFing nuisances and bad manners on the boob - lighthearted thread

PacificDogwood · 13/09/2010 21:17

DS4 is now 6 months old.
For 6 months I have BF him (and will continue to do so) inspite of:

  • him kicking and clawing me ALL the time when feeding
  • him pulling his head back so far whilst pushing against my breast with his upper hand that he regularly pulls the nipple out, ouch!
  • he pinches a bit of my bingo wing upper arm or muffin top waist with his lower hand really really hard
  • he makes a very loud "hmmmmhmmmmmhmmmmm" noise, not 'yumyum' more a growl, which makes discreete BFing in public impossible due to decible levels
  • he always cries when he comes off the breast; whether he comes off himself or I take him off for nibbling, whether he has fed 3 minutes or hours. Half a dozen sucks on his dummy and he'll spit it out and is happy Confused
  • he bites... well has done once. I think my reaction has warned him off big time Grin
  • he turns his head at every interesting noise (3 older brothers so lots of loud interesting noises) without letting go of me first; breast tissue is really amazingly stretchable Wink

As he is No4 I am BFing I am quite staggered how many bad BFing habits he combines in his little person. The others all did some of the above, or had little phases of doing one of the other, but not all and all the time and from the start and for so long, gah!!

So, please add your BFing niggles and pratfalls and make me feel better about the love/hate relationship my son seems to have with my boobs WinkGrin!

Brilliant thread! DS does pretty much all of the above. But he is too sweet to complain...

YanknCock · 17/09/2010 00:08

DS is 13 months now and I'm SOOOO sick of every single top I own being stretched to buggery because of him grabbing the neck and pulling down!

And the twiddling, god the twiddling....just when I've given up and thought 'well, it's annoying but he's not actually hurting me', he goes and does his pincer grip with little nails.

And the biting.

And the swapping sides constantly, leaving the other boob hanging.

And the 'mmmm mmmm mmmmm mmmmmm' loud moaning that he saves especially for places you are meant to be quiet.

Why AM I doing this? Grin

thumbwitch · 17/09/2010 09:03

downbutnotout - my DS has similar fun throwing his hand down my cleavage whenever he can! My own fault though - when he started doing it, just prior to stopping bf'ing, I laughed and said rude baby, don't! But the laughter wrecked it, and now he does it to make me laugh. So far never in public (thank God) but it does stretch my tops to buggery as well. It's not good when he has a really cold hand either...

PinkyBurgerhead · 17/09/2010 10:09

Now it's getting cooler at night, I have the wonderful experience of climbing out of my amazingly snuggly duvet, sitting up in bed in my sweatshirt (always cold!), lifting it up and feeling the chill of the night air, latching on a baby who then SEIZES my side with a FREEZING COLD little hand.... argh!!!

yawningmonster · 17/09/2010 10:36

I haven't made it all the way through the thread but dd (16months) has started to bring me my pj top whenever she wants a drink, say "on" and then if I oblige she climbs on my knee opens up the top shouts "ta da" and slurps happily away!!!

Morloth · 17/09/2010 11:36

DS2 appears to thinking my right boob is a chew toy/teether.

blackcurrants · 17/09/2010 11:54

@yawningmonster that "ta-dah" made me grin. So cute! The whole thread is making me laugh, albeit nervously - DS is only 7 weeks - is this what I have to look forward to?

So far - Massively loud gulping - twisting round to peer at things while my nipple stretches like it belongs to Mr Fantastic and I go "OUCH STOPPIT STOPPIT" then clamp him back towards the boob. Oh, and the farting. Oohyes.

PacificDogwood · 17/09/2010 12:21

thumbwitch, I bought amazingly HUGE soft LARGE cuddely BIG man's dressing gown (full length, my hands disappear inside its sleeves and it has a hood) and this is what I slip on to feed DS at night (he is in his own room). Anything else is too cold to contemplate. And I wrap his lower freezing hand into my PJ top Grin.

Loving the 'ta da!' - clever baby Smile!

My DS just refused FF from a bottle at CM's - as I am going back to work in 2 weeks time, I am more worried than proud... Hmm

Aww, these are all great! DD is only two weeks old so much of this is still ahead of me, but already I have her scratching at my nipples with her sharp little nails, or sucking at her hand instead of my nipple, meaning that the bf'ing is somewhat impeded...

sockmonkey · 17/09/2010 17:30

Morloth - snap. I am not a chew toy!!

I do love when she shops feeding to blow raspberries at me though.

I'm dreading the cold night feeds... although she's 7 months now and really ought to be sleeping through.

UdderlyExhausted · 17/09/2010 19:41

hi blackcurrrants dont worry its all worth it :) although i moan sometime i do find some of his habits endearing :) its soo worth it too am loving BF theres nothing quite like it (my DS is 3months)

hubbabubbababba · 17/09/2010 21:09

what a lovely thread...my dd 15 months also likes to shove her hand down my top anywhere/anytime declaring "MORE" she also decides if she would like me to look at her or away from here by grabbing my chin and moving it to the appropriate place!

GroupieGirl · 17/09/2010 22:24

This thread has me hiccoughing into my wine hot chocolate! I had no idea everyone's baby's were so badly behaved.

Mine has a terrible habit of 'fish-hooking' my lower lip, but we have a very old and very soft muslin which, when wound about her hand, stops her from disfiguring me...or from pulling and twisting her own ears, which looks painful!

SuiGeneris · 17/09/2010 22:42

This is not really a habit, thankfully, but it will make you laugh. End of a feed, DS sitting in my lap facing the world. Suddenly he turns to me, pulls my shirt towards him, bends head and vomits onto the boob he had just eaten from. "returned to the sender". Grin

ClimberChick · 18/09/2010 00:39

all kinds of lol

I bet that was fun to clear up

AngelDog · 18/09/2010 21:53

:) thumbwitch

mamaduckbone · 18/09/2010 21:58

My ds2 (14 months) is terribly bad mannered at the boob and has tried most of the above at some point (although I've never actually been vomited on, thankfully!)

Current favourite is poking his fingers up my nose, then laughing so much he can't concentrate on what he's doing. Grin

DS has done most of the above and his current no. 1 trick is being VERY distractable. But my favourites are/ have been the phase when he liked to sing to my boob (with nipple in mouth) and the one when he tried to inflate them - latched on, blowing like the wind section of an orchestra. Wouldn't be a problem but the hormones already did the job on the inflation!

BlueyDragon · 24/09/2010 23:17

This thread creased me up btw. Nice one Pacific!
