BFing nuisances and bad manners on the boob - lighthearted thread

DS4 is now 6 months old.
For 6 months I have BF him (and will continue to do so) inspite of:

  • him kicking and clawing me ALL the time when feeding
  • him pulling his head back so far whilst pushing against my breast with his upper hand that he regularly pulls the nipple out, ouch!
  • he pinches a bit of my bingo wing upper arm or muffin top waist with his lower hand really really hard
  • he makes a very loud "hmmmmhmmmmmhmmmmm" noise, not 'yumyum' more a growl, which makes discreete BFing in public impossible due to decible levels
  • he always cries when he comes off the breast; whether he comes off himself or I take him off for nibbling, whether he has fed 3 minutes or hours. Half a dozen sucks on his dummy and he'll spit it out and is happy Confused
  • he bites... well has done once. I think my reaction has warned him off big time Grin
  • he turns his head at every interesting noise (3 older brothers so lots of loud interesting noises) without letting go of me first; breast tissue is really amazingly stretchable Wink

As he is No4 I am BFing I am quite staggered how many bad BFing habits he combines in his little person. The others all did some of the above, or had little phases of doing one of the other, but not all and all the time and from the start and for so long, gah!!

So, please add your BFing niggles and pratfalls and make me feel better about the love/hate relationship my son seems to have with my boobs WinkGrin!

DD head butts my boobs when she wants a feed

She is 11 months

She sticks her leg up to my collarbone and rests it there whilst she feeds

She has stopped biting though which is a plus

AngelDog · 13/09/2010 21:25

When DS wants to tell me he's had enough, or wants a moment's break, he punches me in the breast. I usually spray everywhere then.

knobbingnowt · 13/09/2010 21:29

It was the twiddling the other nipple like tuning a radio which used to annoy me most.

Now shes older the surprise latch on whilst I am carrying her and distracted. Shes as quick as a flash and i am very slow! before you know it I have a nork out and shes giggling in the tesco queue.

Honeydragon · 13/09/2010 21:31

DD has taken to putting her hand in my mouth when feeding Confused

And this evening was carrying her on my hip downstairs topless, as I had left my top downstairs. She grabbed my boob with both hands bent her head and decided to have a snack Hmm my ds (7) thought this hysterically funny.

sweetkitty · 13/09/2010 21:34

My 4 month old unlatches himself, burps and latches back on again.

Also smiles at me a lot with nippled in mouth.

And all the usual pinching stuff.

mrspear · 13/09/2010 21:34

my DS thinks it is very funny to pull off and twiddling with the nipple - milk everywhere1

Oh and yes he loves putting his fingers in my mouth and quick latch on if i carry him topless

he is ll months

PacificDogwood · 13/09/2010 21:37

Am loving all these, thanks Smile!

Oh yes, the fingers in mouth! Mine also pulls my lower lip or pinches my nose or, most disconcertingly, puts his finger really deeply into my ear, yikes!

Glad to see its not just DS with a teeth fetish Grin He hooks his hand over my bottom jaw. Odd child.

He has recently started pulling my top down in public.

He likes to look at me evilly deeply before he bites. Demon child.

He finds the smallest amount of skin he possibly can and pinches it bloody hard.

He pulls at the small mole I have a few inches above my breast.

He likes to bounce on my knee whilst feeding. Which is all fun and games, but my nipple isn't removable...

If I don't under my top quick enough he will "help" by hitting my boob to remind me what I'm supposed to be doing.

He now makes chewing noises whilst climbing / crawling / speeding in walker towards me when he's decided its food time - though that's quite sweet actually Grin

SirBoobAlot · 13/09/2010 21:53

Oh, and he tries to put his fingers up my nose. Lovely...

MoonFaceMama · 13/09/2010 21:56

don't forget the hair grabbing. Surely i can't have the only ninja fingers who manages to grab a handfull no matter how well i think it's tied up. A feed is prime time.

Also just when i think he's relaxed enough for me to mn while feeding he'll be distracted by my picking up phone etc, and it will be the most riveting object imaginable for a good five minutes. By which point the witty point i had lined up is defunct as the thread has moved on. I'm only joking. I don't really have any witty points. I imagined that one. Grin

PacificDogwood · 13/09/2010 21:59

Hi, SirBoob , I cannot believe how big Colin has become Grin!

How about the kicking in my stomach when I feed my DS lying down? Soooo unnecessary and usually occurs when I am just about to fall asleep, grrr

OP posts:
SirBoobAlot · 13/09/2010 22:07

PACIFIC How are you all doing? Colin is 10 months now Shock How is Lennard?

Yes, stomach kicking is delightful isn't it - though he also seems to favour below my stomach as well, which is ever so helpful with the recent return on SPD

Actually he's not much one for hair pulling. Mine is in a braid at night, and he just holds it like he would a finger, and during the day he kind of pats it if he can reach it.

MumNWLondon · 14/09/2010 10:45
  • making loud mmm mmm noises
  • wandering hand(s) playing with my top, bra, anything else he can touch, eg my nose
  • comes off if older DC are in room as they are more interesting to look at
  • smiling with nipple in mouth
ScroobiousPip · 14/09/2010 10:54

Smiling cheekily at ex-DH with nipple in mouth. Grin

mrsgordonfreeman · 14/09/2010 11:53

DD tortures me. She pinches a tiny bit of skin and twists. She pinches my collarbone. She pulls my hair. She headbutts my boobs when she fancies a snack and tries to pull my top aside. She makes appreciative and loud grunting and slurping noises when in public.

She also scissor kicks and makes wide circular sweeps with her legs over any surfaces where I may have placed hot tea/an opened yogurt/priceless Meissen china etc. and sends them to the floor or all over herself.

Adorable Grin

Porcelain · 14/09/2010 12:16

Mine is 4 weeks, he makes loud snuffling noises like a little pig when feeding, not all the time, but he managed it in a restaurant the other day when I was trying to be extra discrete. He also stomach kicks which is no fun post c-sec.

EauRouge · 14/09/2010 12:27

I read somewhere that it's a sign of affection when they stick their hand in your mouth. I miss those days

DD is 23mo now and mostly tries to do amazing gymnastics moves like standing on one leg while hooking the other over my shoulder, or quite often she just blows raspberries on my boobs and then laughs Hmm Grin

Champagneforlunch · 14/09/2010 12:41

Dd3 gets angry and shouts at them if it isn't coming fast enough. Also gives them little licks if she has finished and doesn't want to move. Dd1 used to do the hand down the top or wherever she could feel skin and still does it if she is cuddling you at the age of six.

TrinityTheLonelyBrokenRhino · 14/09/2010 12:45

gecko says mummy I want booby ...anywhere

and she always whips out the other nipple and tunes it Grin

gingerkirsty · 14/09/2010 12:50

[sir boob] feeding your DS sounds like a proper treat!

DD (7 mo on Fri) has teeth now, she has nipped me a couple of times which hurts SO MUCH and then gives me a cute cheeky grin!

But the most annoying thing is that she now likes to have several breaks while feeding to sit up and look around the room - fine at home but not good whilst out in public! Feeding out and about has never bothered me in the slightest, but even I am not keen on having my entire boob actually hanging out! I have taken to sticking a muslin through my bra strap for some kind of coverage but it is not 100% successful Blush

gingerkirsty · 14/09/2010 12:51

What did I do that for?!?!? Numpty. I meant:

Grin sir boob

Doh!

HotSprocket · 14/09/2010 13:49

DD always decides the appropriate time for a look aroung would be just after the let down reflex starts. Milk everywhere, then tears because she got milk in her eye.

Also boob kneading, because obviously in her little baby head that will make it come quicker.

Hair pulling, pinching, kicking and screaming if i dare to remove her are all now regular habits.

Oh, and a sudden hatred of my left boob.

PacificDogwood · 14/09/2010 14:52

Gosh, same here, Sprocket, hatred of my L boob; what has it done to deserve that??

So, in summary, they kick, pinch, scratch, pound, twiddle (I am so grateful I have not had the nipple 'tuning' (Grin Trinity) yet btw), growl, twist, bite, come off at inopportune moments and do gymnastics at the dinner table - remind me, WHY are we all still doing this Wink?

greensnail · 14/09/2010 15:09

I've spent most of the day wiping snot off my boobs. Now that's bad nursing manners.

DD1 also insists on twisting round so she can see the tv or look at book while feeding. Several times she's slid off my lap while still latched on - ouch ouch ouch!

DD2 has days where she'll only feed lying down, which is inconvenient but at least I get a rest.

moajab · 14/09/2010 15:21

My DS3 used to have quite bad reflux, but was also a total greedy guts. When feeding he would barely pull away before spewing up all over me and then latch himself back on as if nothing had happened.
Now aged 19 months he will climb on my knee and yank my top down as far as it will go to indicate that he wants a feed.
