BF beyond a year - your TOP TIPS

Well it's dd's 1st birthday on Saturday and she shows NO signs of giving up the boob. So it looks like we'll be doing 'extended' feeding.

What do I need to know? What issues am I likely to face? Will I ever be able to wear a dress again? Can I still breastfeed in John Lewis restaurants without the old biddies tutting?

I'll start it off:

Tip 1: get a new bra, the one you've been wearing continuously for the past year is the new Dulux shade, 'ennui'. Get a white one quick.

Your thoughts?

god, nightweaning sounds good.

tell me more...

DS just over one year old, and I don't feed him during the day, it doesn't seem to occur to him to want it. I feed him first thing in the morning and before bedtime. I was going to try and night wean, managed it for one night offering a bottle of cold milk instead which he didn't want. Next night he got a vomity bug. Then teething. Then starting nursery. Then more teething. So loads of night feeding at the moment

DD is almost 2 and we still feed on a night to get her to sleep.
We have come along way as last winter I was feeding her to get her to nap during the day. Found out I was pregnant so had to refuse daytime feeds as she is a wriggler, and a nipple tweaker. I hate that but she is very strong and just dives her hand down my top.

She has no other comforters and uses my boobs for a squeeze if she is upset.
I wish I had tried some rules when I found out I was pregnant but I didn't have a lot of support from DP. DD had her first ever night with no boob when I went into hospital to have dd3. He found it hard but serves him right he should of helped me wean her.

night weaning

oh yes, after a year I bought some normal front-fastening bras instead of nursing bras, much better and v. easy to do up/undo.

blinder · 13/09/2010 15:14

Jamais I've been looking for front fasteners but can't find any! Where did you get yours?

i have this bra in both colours I bought in "Printemps", a French department store.

Figleaves?

blinder · 13/09/2010 20:37

Ah, it's nice but not in my size. Bravissimo don't stock one according to the big store in Cardiff. I'll have a look at figleaves yes.
