Infant feeding

NOT permitted to use Boots points for milk

I am currently extremely upset with Boots the chemist.
I am a working mother and my husband stays at home to look after our 5 month old son.
My husband has just been told at Boots that we can NOT use our Boots points to buy the formula milk we feed our son !.
Apparently its company policy as they do not want to be seen to be promoting non breast feeding !!!!!!!!
This policy applies to all the formula even milk designed for older babys.
This policy is not advertised or displayed in store anywhere. As a customer who regularly spends a fortune in Boots the points seemed like a nice bonus, saving up for a rainy day !, i feel very aggrieved that i cannot use them against things we need. They advertise that they are parent and baby friendly but this seems very anti parent to me.
What if my husband were a lone parent ?. He would not be able to breast feed anyway.
My husband and I will no longer be shopping at Boots for any products and He will be informing the other parents in his coffee group about this situation.
Does anyone else feel we should be able to use the points on products we need ?

Supermarkets have huge shelf talkers directing shoppers to the '4 mths' section.

Of course this sort of thing increases sales.

stayfrosty you have made me PMSL. So overall bye.com has had a net effect.

Impressed at Tiktok's knowledge of point of sale jargon.

the problem with the 4m+ is that it makes it look like all babies should be weaned at 4m. most babies don't need food until 6m. obviously in some situations they do need early weaning, but that's where HV advice should come in.

if they changed all the 4m+ to 6m+, then more people would wait. those who were advised to start early could then be directed to the 6m+ foods, with advice about what to avoid (gluten etc)

I agree, Algebra18MinusPiEquals16! I really wish I had left weaning until bang on 6 months with DS. I started about 1/2 a month before, and - God - do I wish I had that half-month back!

Our relationship did suffer from the stress of getting food into him.It might, of course, have been easier with BLW, but I didn't know about that, and struggled on with a child who just wasn't interested. No way would he and I have survived weaning at 4 months!

Ffs it's a 7 year old Zombie thread.

There are very good reasons why formula isn't promoted.

Your boots points aren't more important than that.

It is against the law to reduce formula. Points are a e facto reduction

mum so you want to get points on it so ff parents aren't penalised? Where are my points and rewards for bf for 8 months? Noone is bloody well penalised. Ff or bf noone gets points or rewards for that 6 months.

So your argument is that you get points when buying BF equipment? Surely the counter argument is that FF parents get points when buying FF equipment too - bottles, sterilising equipment, etc. NOBODY GETS POINTS FOR MILK!

Ridiculous petition and ridiculous to post it on a thread that’s 7 years old.

Hmm struggling with the petition idea. The reason formula milk is not allowed to be promoted is the same as the laws on advertising for ciggarettes. Formula feeding babies carries health risks. Points/discount counts as a promotion.

ZOMBIE THREAD!

(Seven years to start a petition? Really?! Hmm)

Pointless and ridiculous, sorry. You'd need to change the law for this to happen. And the idea that mothers are 'penalised' ( in the words of the petition) is a massive exaggeration.

This is a 7 year old ZOMBIE THREAD, and the situation wasn't new even when it began.

The reasons this policy is in place continue to exist.

The relevant law dates from 1995, and enacts World Health Organisation code of practice. I would not support UK reneging on international public health commitments.

& mumofmytwins I think you rather missed the point of this thread - everybody laughed at the OP (& her sock puppet) as she was being utterly ridiculous, as are you...

However the bye.com lady & some of the responses made me laugh, I usually say on the endless 'mumsnet has changed' threads that it hasn't changed, but haven't seen anything as amusing as this for a while!

I love this thread. Reminds me of the time my boss suggested we try a stealth marketing campaign on Mumsnet. Oh how we laughed.
