NOT permitted to use Boots points for milk

I am currently extremely upset with Boots the chemist.
I am a working mother and my husband stays at home to look after our 5 month old son.
My husband has just been told at Boots that we can NOT use our Boots points to buy the formula milk we feed our son !.
Apparently its company policy as they do not want to be seen to be promoting non breast feeding !!!!!!!!
This policy applies to all the formula even milk designed for older babys.
This policy is not advertised or displayed in store anywhere. As a customer who regularly spends a fortune in Boots the points seemed like a nice bonus, saving up for a rainy day !, i feel very aggrieved that i cannot use them against things we need. They advertise that they are parent and baby friendly but this seems very anti parent to me.
What if my husband were a lone parent ?. He would not be able to breast feed anyway.
My husband and I will no longer be shopping at Boots for any products and He will be informing the other parents in his coffee group about this situation.
Does anyone else feel we should be able to use the points on products we need ?

I hadn't been courageous enough to post what I wanted to say which was "I don't think you will get much sympathy here - quite rightly".

I should have trusted Mumsnet! Grin

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/09/2010 14:25

Don't worry, Lulu, I have held you up as being the One True Voice Of Sanity on MN for years Grin

ShadeofViolet · 07/09/2010 14:28

You dont get points on Babymilk either.

tiktok · 07/09/2010 14:32

I think the drama (extremely upset; no longer shopping at Boots) and the excessive !!!!! signifies a troll, as does the fact this is their first post, but the dodgy spelling and punctuation makes me think it's someone real...or at least not a marketing goon.

I am having a giggle at the announcement her dh will make at his coffee group. The puzzled looks, the embarrassment of someone getting on their high horse, and the sound of tumbleweed....:) :)

Tip: don't let him say anything at the coffee group, OP!

Shriekable · 07/09/2010 14:34

I bet those coffee mornings are a bundle of laughs. Is DH going to turn up with a flip chart and graphs demonstrating the drop in Boots profits if all members impose a boycott? Does he have one of those pointy sticks to poke at the graphs? Stick your hand in your pocket and pay for your formula. Redeem your points against some aromatherapy oils for relaxation and calm and get over yourself.

dylsmum1998 · 07/09/2010 14:37

weegiemum, they do sell wine at christmas, but more expensive than I usually buy Smile

CJCregg · 07/09/2010 14:43

Thanks for cheering up my day.

It's the use of 'Boots the Chemist' that just doesn't sound right. We're not in the 50s, still playing Happy Families - we don't go to 'WH Smith the Stationer' or 'Coral the Turf Accountant' or even 'Greggs the sausage roll pusher Baker'.

Don't know why that bothers me so much, but it just does. Better get some Rescue Remedy with my advantage points.

(By the way, back in the good old days you couldn't use nectar points to buy fags. That used to piss me off massively Grin).

AmazingBouncingFerret · 07/09/2010 15:25

GetOrf. I thought you werent supposed to give babies under 12 months cow's milk? DD is 8 months old and has follow on milk which can be used from 6 months, which is probably no different to the first milk other than the fact you can earn points with it. What can I say im cheap. Saves me a bundle at christmastime! Grin

IagreewithLeQueen2 · 07/09/2010 16:01

Christ, ABF, dion't listen to my milk guidelines, my dd is 15 and everything i knew about babies I have forgotten.

I have NO idea why I still venture on Breast and bottle feeding threads Grin

IagreewithLeQueen2 · 07/09/2010 16:01

I am getorf, btw (damn, hate name changing)

elphabaisgreen · 07/09/2010 16:17

Its the law. I formula fed dd partly becasue I fell for all that formula is just as good marketing hype. I rememeber reading an SMA ad when pg in a baby mag(then they were prosecuted for that ad).

I used infant formula from when dd (now aged 9) was born to 12 months. Could never get or spend points on it even back then.

SirBoobAlot · 07/09/2010 16:43

Brilliant thread...

As its already been stated, it has bugger all to do with Boots.

Do let us know how his coffee group react, won't you?

NewMum1812 · 07/09/2010 19:32

I joined today and saw this - I am not due until next year and currently researching and collecting all info as much as I can - becoming member of this forum, Baby& Bump etc. I have to say that I am totally taken aback by the venom of the 'ladies' on this this site. My impression was that these forums were to offer advise from other Mums, support and kind words when the baby won't stop crying etc. I was expecting informative advise and empathy - not venom, insulting people for lack of knowledge???? How about trying supportive??? She clearly had no idea its 'the Law' nor her husband from the way I read this.... and the comment about SMA marketing - clearly if she worked for SMA marketing she wouldn't need to use her points to get formula it would be part of her remuneration - idiots! My last and final post - the moderator should kick people off for direct insults..... where is the moderator?????? Bye.com

Mumsnet is unmoderated. One of the many reasons why it's a great site, IMHO.

It's not for everyone though - bye!

DuelingFanjo · 07/09/2010 19:38

Advice, not advise. That's my spelling advice. Wink

The advice given on this thread was informative as it corrected something the OP posted which was factually incorrect.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 07/09/2010 19:40

Please do inform other parents at the coffee group of this situation, it owuld be good fo rthem to be well-informed regarding the laws around formula milk.

TrillianAstra · 07/09/2010 19:49

ROFL at bye.com

Where oh where is the moderator

Coo-ee!

Moderator, where are you?

Can I say 'sense of entitlement'? The points are or spending on what Boots say you can, if they say you can only buy red nail varnish with points and not pink nail varnish you'd have to suck it up, because they are giving you stuff for free.
