Wow - that's made my boobs feel super-human!

Nice tone to the article I thought.

latrucha · 05/08/2010 14:13
  • although I did note the research is in aid of developing medical treatments but hey ho no one's ever going to do research to promote bf are they?

catwhiskers10 · 05/08/2010 16:01

Very interesting, like I say, 30 million years of evolution V 60 years of science. There can be no contest.

Mothers are clever, preens.

I once read an article/study or something which put forth the idea that humans were evolved by/for the bacteria that live on and in us.

Don't think about it too much though or it will creep you out.

MathsMadMummy · 05/08/2010 16:22

I'd heard something vaguely about that when doing our peer support training.

boobs are fantastic. who needs yakult eh?!

boobs are truely fabulous things.

TheProvincialLady · 05/08/2010 19:46

?Everything in milk costs the mother ? she is literally dissolving her own tissues to make it.? Wow, get me

JaMmRocks · 05/08/2010 19:51

Love that article, how refreshing!

secretskillrelationships · 05/08/2010 19:53

Wow. Well I always knew it was pretty incredible stuff. My DS started having problems with gluten when he reduced his breast feeding to less than twice a day. Unfortunately, this was only obvious with hindsight otherwise I'd still be feeding him twice a day now (he's 6!). This probably explains why!

latrucha · 05/08/2010 20:03

Provinciallady - that freaked me out - it wasn't explained. ???

whomovedmychocolate · 05/08/2010 20:10

To be clear on this tissues dissolved in making milk are replaced. It's a natural part of the lactation process.

Similarly the tissues in your womb are replaced monthly along with the outer layers of skin covering your body.

Fret ye not latrucha.

Lovely article!

mamasunshine · 05/08/2010 20:18

Brilliant stuff

shelinka · 05/08/2010 20:35

I've been pumping every feed for the last 12 weeks due problems with the latch (which led to mastitis, thrush, bleeding nipples, dd2 not gaining enough weight, etc.) It's been hard, but I've been taking it a day at a time, telling myself it's the best thing for her (whilst thinking about all the stuff I'll be able to do once I'm not tied to the pump 8 times a day.)

Anyway, dd2 is now 16 wks old, and after reading that I'm inspired to carry on till 20 weeks and see how it goes from there.

Haliborange · 05/08/2010 20:41

Gosh that is brilliant. How clever, and even then it sounds like there's a lot they still haven't figured out.
