The loneliness of the late night cluster feed...

bouncingblueberries · 05/08/2010 00:48

Anyone else out there going through a massive cluster feed session right now?

I know it's normal...

I know it's probably a growth spurt...

But I just really want it to finish now so I can sleep - we've been going since 10pm and I think my nipples might fall off

Some hot sweet tea and choccie bichirs would go down a treat right now (hint hint dh)

Have tea now but can't open choccie biscuit packet one handed! Grrr

Oh joy workmen have just turned up to
work on the railway line out back - so e en when the milk monster does finally decide he's full, the noise of the generator will keep me awake.

Lovely.

Not quite the same thing, but I'm up too because my toddler has decided he isn't tired yet.

He did just cry "Miiiiiiiiiiiiiilk" very piteously at me and when I put him on my lap just refused to feed so does that count?

lla · 05/08/2010 01:47

Hi, I'm up too. Mine is 1 wk old today and has been 'cluster feeding' for the last few nights. only learnt what 'cluster feeding' was earlier today after speaking to a bf councillor. i'm so tired (, she said that this can go on for the first 3/4 weeks.I'd never heard of it before but feel relived other people are going through the same thing.

bouncingblueberries · 05/08/2010 04:14

And we're back! Lovely to have some company.

Lla - 10 days old here, so very much the same boat!

Bertie - I do hope your toddler has finally gone to bed

waves at blueberries from our antenatal thread...

ds (17 days) doesn't even seem that hungry, he is wide awake and so is feeding away. he's been awake and feeding on and off since 2am. just came through to living room as have finished my book so internet calls!

need sleep...

pebblejones · 05/08/2010 07:02

Sorry girls, if I'd have thought to look at my phone I could have kept you company. I've been up on and off all night with a 'starving' 4 month old.
And I'm very cross that DH woke up and said 'oooooh he did quite well last night didn't he?' No DH he didn't it was just you were snoring so loudly you couldn't possibly hear him!

virgo1979 · 05/08/2010 07:59

same as pebble......was up til 1am with a 7 week old who fed til my nipples were hanging off then decided he wanted to play and just admire the coving and ceiling in the bedroom....when i got cross he would just give me his 'i know you fall for this every time' smile.....
dh had fallen asleep on the sofa. wanted to smack him in the head.

are people lying when they say cluster feeds last a few days?! this has been going on since 5 weeks. every day i say to myself i will start a routine, then it all goes to pot....

and i am, officially for the first time since ds was born, exhausted. i dont think i felt this tired post labour....

bouncingblueberries · 05/08/2010 22:38

Coo-eee emster!

God what is it about dh's? After 2 hours sleep last night I was rather eager to get ds1 into bed before ds2 woke up and wanted fed. Dh very helpfully pointed out that it wasn't ds1's fault and that this was just the way things were now...REALLY???? How the fuck would you know? You snore ALL night!!!!!

bouncingblueberries · 06/08/2010 09:02

hello all! last night my 2 week old little girl fed on and off between, I think (was a little delirious at times) 12ish and 5am. I'm totally zombified this morning and my nipples are barely attached, yet she is somehow bright as a button.

lla · 06/08/2010 23:19

i've been feeding till 5am too but last night managed to get away with 3am - hoping tonight is an early one

spiderlight · 06/08/2010 23:52

I was awake from 11pm until 5am with a poorly toddler glued to my boob, but I was at least lying down for most of it. If he does the same tonight I won't feel quite so lonely and isolated.

Haggisfish · 07/08/2010 00:30

Hello
I am here too! My five week old has been asleep most of the day and I fear we may be in for a long night, too. On the plus side, I have banished OH to the other bedroom as he s absolutely exhausted, with working and being kept awake by baby, so I can co-sleep tonight and save myself some bother. Oh, she's awake and smacking her lips again, despite feeding for about the past hour. sigh!

bouncingblueberries · 07/08/2010 01:52

Evening girls! Another night, another packet of chocolate hob nobs...

Know there's no chance of a snooze tomorrow either as we have a day packed full
ofvisitors and 1st birthday parties...yawn. The visitors, I'm cool with, but could really do without the 1st birthday party

lla · 07/08/2010 23:46

hi all, yes another night of the same. I plan to catch up on some of my trashy tv programmes.

bouncingblueberries · 07/08/2010 23:50

Good plan lla - might join you. Need to watch the latest episode of mistresses!

OP posts:
lla · 08/08/2010 00:44

that's funny i started watching that last night and have the rest to watch this evening. pacing myself - so far caught up on facebook and done the weekly shop! my neighbours are having a party so all the noise is making me feel less lonely. :)

bouncingblueberries · 08/08/2010 23:00

Fuck. Am soooooo exhausted. After not too bad a night last night ds2 fed from 6:30am til 11:30am with a short break enforced to let me shower. He's now been attached to me pretty much since 7:30pm and I don't know how much longer I can stay awake! Go to sleep you milk monster! I've had enough!!!!!

Hang in there :)

we are approaching the 4 month growth spurt. I spend a lot of time MNing on my iPod in the dark while dd feasts. Much better than when ds was a new baby way back in 2007. I used to have to watch rubbish late telly to stay awake (eg Hard Talk on BBC News 24; world's dullest program, hence screened at 3 AM).

bouncingblueberries · 09/08/2010 00:32

I don't want to do this anymore. I just want some sleep. Starting to feel really resentful.

Make it stop somebody please.

OP posts:
DorotheaPlenticlew · 09/08/2010 22:26

Oh bouncing. I just saw your post -- you OK? Ready for another shift?

I was nearly delirious with lack of sleep when DS was a young baby but this time has been easier, thank goodness. I recall it with shudders though. But we got through it and you will too
