Looking for a really good thriller

The last thriller that I thought was really entertaining, gripping and clever was Behind Closed Doors

Anyone got any good recommendation, that aren't crime / police thrillers?

I've enjoyed books by Belinda Bauer
and Shari Lapena. Also liked The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson

I just find them all so " a twist you never saw coming" disappointing but still I keep going. Some of it's pure laziness; I see that dark rain spattered cover with the green glowing title, cave in, buy it, and there's the road to many wasted hours.
Sorry I know this doesn't help but I just find them so predicable and I feel angry with myself for falling for them ( like when I scoff an entire family bag of crisps)
I enjoyed Found recently precisely because there was no predicted twist.
Am re reading the Jackson Brodie books atm wonderful bit do they count as 5hrillers?

Just reread the Jackson Brodie books in preparation for the 5th one. They are fabulous and so well written. Really love Kate Atkinson's work.

I REALLY enjoyed Gentleman and Players by Joanne Harris. Not a typical thriller at all but I was hooked and agog at the ending!

I’ve just read Phoenix by Ellis Simms. Some good twists and I was hooked!

American Dirt is a crime thriller but very different from ones I’ve read before. And I found it gripping.

I am on book 8 out of the 11 in the Val McDermid Tony Hill series and am really enjoying them. It makes a lot more sense to read them in order.

I've just read Police are at the station and they don't look friendly, by Adrian McKinty. I couldn't put it down. It's set in Belfast in the 80's.
Apparently it's the sixth in the Sean Duffy series, I wish I had started at the beginning Blush

Now I am embarrassed, I hadn't realised you didn't want crime/police.
Well if you change your mind . . . .

Just read Stanger on the Beach by Michele Campbell - very good same story from both sides very compelling, although a bit rushed at the end.

I have really enjoyed The Psychic Sisters series by Elizabeth Andrews. 1 is The Lavender Witch, 2 The Cunning Man 3 The Haunting of Stoke Water and the new release is The Doll. If you like ghosty paranormal mysteries then these are for you!

Another vote here for the Kate Atkinson Jackson Brodie books. Very clever plots with some genuinely likeable characters that pop up throughout the series. You should read them in order of publication as previous plots are referred to.

Also recommend:-
The woman in the window by A.J. Finn
The stag party by Lucy Foley
The girl on the train by Paula Hawkins
The perfect girlfriend by Karen Hamilton

Want To Play by PJ Tracy. There is some police involvement, I won't lie, but it and the further books in the series are very absorbing and, for me, quite unpredictable.

Titles I found thrilling but without too much police/crime aspects!

You and Me - Lisa Hall
The Temp - Michelle Frances
The Other Woman - Sandie Jones
The House Swap - Rebecca Fleet

Not fiction but in light of the current situation...
One of the most gripping books I have read is The Hot Zone about the discovery of Marburg and Ebola viruses
