In response to requests for more non-fiction, we've decided to resurrect Non-fiction book of the month and will be bringing you a host of great non-fiction book giveaways to read, discuss and when possible the opportunity to engage with the author. To kick off we're delighted to offer you the chance to grab a copy of Kim Gordon's brilliant memoir Girl in a Band

Find out more about the book and apply for a free copy, then come back and discuss the book and put your questions to Kim on this thread. We'll be sending up to 15 questions over to her on 22nd Feb and we'll post up her answers to this thread in early March.

I couldn't find this thread again! Just done a search.

I'm afraid I was really disappointed with the book and didn't end up finishing it. It began well and then turned into really boring witterings about her parents going fishing etc.

I'm v grateful for the free copy, but this didn't do it for me, I'm afraid.

Phew, thanks Remus. Me too actually. Did it pick up again (to anyone who finished)? It was the name dropping and intense artiness that put me off. DH was / is a massive fan but I suppose I was never cool enough. I will get round to finishing it one day. Thanks for the book MN.

Aargh I lost the thread too.

I found the book heavy going in bits as well, it did get bogged down in names and I had to keep checking back to work out who was who as it was people I didn't know - in some ways it was like a conversation with my mum 😁 and I did find I wanted more, it felt almost like it glossed over kims emotion and motivation a lot of the time.

I wanted to ask what advice she would give a young girl wanting to be an artist today, and whether she thought that another artistic underground scene was likely to occur in the future given the globalisation of music/x factor and associated drivel.
