SW London schools diversity

I found this thread and many like it:

www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4731973-sw-london-private-and-grammar-applying-for-year-7-in-2023-part-v?page=31

So my kids are bright and we have great state & grammar school in London. BUT if we were to do this process is it diverse?

the anonymity of Mumsnet means I assume there’s diversity in these applicants but I wonder that maybe black & brown people don’t have the time/financial resources to support private schools process. All that money lost on deposits!

my question- have any Black Mumsnetters done this process and did it feel inclusive?

I’m not looking for responses that are anti private/grammar. Only a view if anyone has been through this if they felt they and their kids were treated equally with not much bias .
thank you!

My son is at a SW London grammar. Most kids I would say are from families that originate in Asia, be it India, Sri Lanka. Pakistan, Korea, China etc. Then others who are from mixed parentage eg 1 British and 1 overseas parent. White British kids probably not more than 25% if that. Those who are under represented are black kids and working class English kids.

@TheGander I always find it fascinating how people breakdown asia and then just use black.

Also, are they underrepresented or just not local to the area? Sutton/Bromley/Kingston aren't very African

@Whentheyseeus saw this post few days back and I got put off when I saw the statement "black & brown people don’t have the time/financial resources".
Always good to remember that British Indians are the the richest ethnic group in the UK and the Pakistanis aren't too far back. NW Independent schools (Merchant Taylors, St Helens, NLCS & Habs ) are full of ethnic minorities, some are like 90% asian. Same with the grammars

Also, good to remember that there's a decent sized West African middle class in the London many of whom attend independent schools in north (The same as above) and south London (Colfe's, Dulwich, Whitgift, Trinity & St Dunstans)

The grammar schools in the south east are also chuck full of British African children.

Apologies if I offended anyone. There are so few black kids I don’t know their backgrounds although I have seen some west African names eg in school magazine. I have got to know some of my son’s classmates and parents and so I know where in Asia their families originate from.
