I'm sure it will, Jessysmummy! Have been told by a friend not to look inside the bag, as she found it really scared her Don't think I'll be able to resist, though. I'm a nosy parker!

Hi everyone. D77, my check ups are every 2 weeks now. Had the most awful pain in the right side of my back last night, it woke me up and went on for about 2 hours. It was crippling, not sure if the baby was lying on a nerve or something but it really freaked me out. DH was nightshift so was by myself. Only thing that soothed it a bit was one of those heatpacks that you put in the micro. I'm trying to stay positive about being in control of my labour but if that pain is anything to go by, I'll be needing an epidural the minute I get to hospital.
I have 2 days left to work but got my pressie from colleagues today. They got me a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, a large chocolate cake that we all demolished and vouchers to get a massage/treatment of my choice once baba is here. Was really chuffed.
Welcome home Moschops, what a lovely name.

Redhelen, where do you live? We're in Bedfordshire, although I'm having DS2/DD at the Lister in Stevenage partly because that's where DS was born (we were in Herts then) and I think it is just about nearer for us.

My midwife wants to see me in two weeks, but that is due (a) to baby being breech and (b) me having had various problems last time. I think if I had to have appointments where I take DS with me, I wouldn't be so keen, but as I can have them on a day he's at nursery, it's fine.

I am supposedly about to do some ironing. Once I have tidied up DS's toys from the floor. As DH isn't back from work yet, I am taking advantage and mumsnetting instead .

mummyhill · 10/08/2005 21:07

I saw my community midwife on Monday, am due back at hospital a week on friday and then am seeing midwife on bank holiday monday, she is comming out to the house (cripes better get it tidy by then) Will then see her each week till i deliver, this is mainly due to a)having mc last year, b) poorly back, c) thyroid problems. They promised to monitor me more closely and i am making them keep that promise!!!!!!

DD is no angel but if she misbehaves I appologise to anyone who may have been hurt or offended by her and make sure she knows that she has done something wrong. Today being a point in case - We went to pizza hut with my gran and dd decided to run round and disturb other people whilst they were eating. I appologised to each table as i collected her and then put her in a highchair so she had to sit at the table with us. With the comment of if you cannot behave like a big girl and do as mummy asks i will treat you like a baby. Didn't go down to well with her but had the desired effect when she calmed down i took her out of the highchair and she stayed in her seat till we had finished our meals. Having been a waitress and seen the accidents that can happen when children run riot in restraunts i am quite strict with her in this kind of environment. She has got to of been bad today, i thought it was just me being tierd but my nan told her off at one point and that is pratically unheard of.

If shopping on line for baby stuff try kidisave there is a link to them through the top of this page, it helps support mumsnet and I have found them to be much cheaper than mothercare. I ordered a pram matress from them on Sunday night and it arrived on Tuesday morning, really good service will deff use them again.

LadyLazarus · 10/08/2005 21:18

Evening all. I am seeing my GP every week now, although not going back to midwives at all until I turn up at the hospital on the Big Day. The amount of care you get really varies from place to place it seems, I'm quite surprised.

RZ - wow you are so organised with the cooking! I have started thinking about it, but haven't quite mustered up the energy to do anything about it yet. Plus have very tiny freezer, so won't be able to get much in there anyway...

Redhelen · 10/08/2005 21:48

PiccadillyCircus - I live just outside Bedford - in Renhold. I think Bedford Hospital has a good reputation but has seriously overspent its budgets!! Night night

Piccalilli · 10/08/2005 22:06

I'm seeing the midwife every two weeks now - I quite like the reassurance. We've got another scan at 36 weeks as well for more doppler checks.

KiwiKate · 11/08/2005 06:49

My midwife (here in New Zealand) has been brilliant. She does not work from a clinic, so pays house calls (bliss!). She chats with DS (2.3yo) like he is one of her grandchildren, and lets him stand right next to her as she gets her doppler going. She explains to him what she is doing and he is fascinated. At first she came every month, then every two weeks (for about the last four visits). When there are 4 weeks to go (next week!), she'll come every week. If I go beyond my due date, she'll be in touch daily by phone or popping in to see me if I want.

I find the visits very reasuring, especially as ds was 3 weeks early, and so much changes in the last month.

So different from the mw I had with ds, who never had time to see me, and would rush me in and out of the clinic in literally 5 minutes, and tell me she didn't have time to answer my questions.

Kiwifruit · 11/08/2005 11:53

Just got a parcel delivered from my Mum in NZ, bless her. First grandchild, and she's a very excited Granny - has been knitting madly! There's 4 very cute matinee jackets with matching bootees, a couple of hats and a shawl which has been in the family for a few generations. And a tiny teddy bear. Soooo cute (and so small - are they really that small??? ).

My ankles and feet are HUGE !! Am sitting at work with my feet up on a rubbish bin under my desk, but it doesn't appear to be helping. Most attractive, and the only shoes I can wear at the moment are my Birkenstocks. Seriously contemplating have a sick day tomorrow so I can like down with my feet up for a day to try and sort them out.

LadyLazarus · 11/08/2005 14:12

KF - a day at home might do you good. I think something which might help is a yoga thing of lying with your feet higher than your heart (Eg. lying on the floor with your legs up the wall: put a cushion under one hip so the blood return to the heart is not impeded). Probably just the heat and being on your feet a bit too much!

I finally made it to an antenatal class this morning! Was pretty interesting actually, they went through positions for labour, and how to get baby into the optimal foetal position beforehand. So popped down to Argos to get a birthing ball straight afterwards, as apparently this can help. Just having a bit of a problem pumping it up, as there seems to be a discrepancy between my bicycle pump nozzle and the hole of the birth ball. It's taking forever!

franch · 11/08/2005 15:06

KF - join the fat feet club. Hopefully it is the heat - I didnt get this last time (winter baby). Thank god, as I wouldn't have been able to wear my birkenstocks in January!

Kiwifruit · 11/08/2005 15:30

Commisserations Franch - although I have to confess that it is nice to know that I'm not the only one!!! . My feet are so swollen I wouldn't be at all surprised if they got stretch marks . Read somewhere that drinking heaps of water helps, so am trying to follow that advice, but all it seems to be doing is increasing the number of times I have to go up and down the stairs to the loo...

diane77 · 11/08/2005 15:51

have just come back from boots after buying things for my bag for the hospital, but couldnt find any minatures(shampoo etc) can anyone help?

franch · 11/08/2005 16:02

Superdrug usually have loads. Or they or Boots (and some little local chemists) sell those little empty bottles that you can decant your favourite stuff into and re-use?

Redhelen · 11/08/2005 16:33

Good morning! - I've just got out of bed - decided my feet were so big and I felt so tired I'd lay down for 16 hours with feet up on 3 pillows - and they have gone down!!Taking ds out now as feeling guilty for his day with my mum = (sat in front of tv!!)

LadyLazarus - glad antinatal was good - I'm pleased with my Argos ball - except I never know where to keep it when not in use!

Kiwifruit · 11/08/2005 16:43

Redhelen - you've just persuaded me that I need to take a sick day from work tomorrow and do just what you did. Thank you!

Boompi · 11/08/2005 17:30

KF/Franch - Ive found foot massage helps - see if you can convince your DH's!

I saw little bottles of shampoo/conditioner in Tescos yesterday - near till not with toiletries.

Finished work - yipee! Now officially on leave so can do stuff like watch trashy daytime telly, go see a movie etc! Nesting seems to be starting too - caught myself on stepladder cleaning walls Dont have space in deepfreeze so envy you RZ.

Boompi · 11/08/2005 17:33

LadyL - what were you told to do with your ball? I sit on mine and roll hips - are there any other tips? Babys head is still not engaged - I know its early( Im 36.5 weeks) but wondered if I could help it along?

andif · 11/08/2005 18:08

Feeling relaxed as kids have gone to stay with parents for 3 nights (wedding tomorrow) and have just had a nap listening to hypnobirth cd that a friend sent me. Have to say I had to try hard not to get the giggles - the woman's voice sounded ridiculous, but I guess it did the job as i fell asleep. Off late night shopping now in search of silver flip flops to wear at wedding!
Boompi - have you tried spending time on all fours?
Franch - good friend was wearing birkenstocks with socks in November when she was pregnant!
LadyL - have same prob with inflating ball - think a footpump would be better, keep meaning to borrow one as mine is a bit flat!
Diane77 - what about the Bodyshop for miniatures. I have some posh ones dh got from a hotel in New York which will be great to make me feel pampered after the birth!
I'm after an empty bottle with spray on the top to fill with water and a cheap natural sponge - anyone seen any?

franch · 11/08/2005 18:39

Saw one of those sprays in my local pound shop the other day andif - not much help to you but you could try a similar shop near you? Garden centres sell them as plant sprays Not sure about cheap natural sponges tho

pooka · 11/08/2005 19:19

Last time round my feet swelled to emormous proportions as it was so hot in July 2003. Found the best remedy was to sit with feet in a bucket of cold water. Hasn't happened this time though - not sure why. Famous last words!!!

OP posts:
beatie · 11/08/2005 19:49

andif - they sell natural sponges cheap in Superdrug - they're £2.50 I think.

Redhelen · 11/08/2005 21:39

Been up for 6 hours and now on my way back to bed! Hope to have some energy tomorrow - and keep feet swelling down - I have lots to do! Night night

LadyLazarus · 12/08/2005 08:31

Boompi - the midwife said you can either sit on the ball upright and move your hips around, or you can lean forward on to something and use it for relaxation. On my yoga dvd they also sit on the floor with knees apart / kneel and rest your upper body / arms on the ball as well.
