Sariska I'd give my midwife a call - better to be safe than sorry! Obsetric choleostasis is pretty rare, but my younger sister had it in her pregnancy last year and she was allowed to go overdue. It did mean she had more monitoring than usual (and I've been told to keep an eye out for itching as it can be more common if your mum or sisters had it).

Sympathies to all in freezing Scotland! It's pretty cold in London but the Scottish temperatures are just mad (or could I use radge here? Can the temperature be radge I wonder...)

Just waiting for the midwife to arrive...we had the virgin tv man out this morning and he's after getting stuck on our very icy road
(after getting rescued from his own house to set off this morning). Honestly, we're all in the deep freeze!

PacificDogwood · 08/01/2010 11:14

Sariska, must be brief as at work :

Have a look at this site, might reassure you - or get you worried enough to contact midwife anyway ...

Itchy skin in pregnancy is very common, does not always mean cholestasis, but if persistent this should be checked out of course. Try lots and lots of moisturizer really frequently and see if that makes any difference.

SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 08/01/2010 11:24

sariska my restless legs are in the evening too. I usually go to bed about 9 or 9.30 these days as I just can't get comfortable in the evenings until I am stretched out in bed with my v shaped cushion under the bump. I can happily read in bed for a bit then with the Gaviscon in easy reach!
I am also feeling very itchy, again it's in the evening it's worst but can strike at any time. I'm sure pacific will be along with the science soon but I think it is only a worry if it in your palms and soles if it is other places it is probably just your skin stretching and this weather won't be helping especially being stuck indoors with central heating on full pelt. My advice would be to slap on lots of moisturiser and keep hydrated (but obviously phone mw if truly worried).
I can't believe how often I have to go to the loo and most of the time it's just a dribble!
I am also still getting sharp twinges in my uterus, don't think it's BH but something is getting ready down there!
DH is sleeping right now after a night shift but I'm waiting for him to wake up before braving a slither to Tescos for supplies and to pick up more Gaviscon. I haven't been out the house since Wednesday morning (again with him in tow) I'm usually a very independant woman but this ice and snow has made me a big woos and I won't leave the house without him!

Any of you in Lincolnshire? Have to go to Lincoln today to be fitted for my mahooosive bridesmaid's dress and a bit worried about the journey. In York it's proper snowy and Lincoln's pretty white but in between???

scooby26 · 08/01/2010 12:54

Hi all-minus 15 in newcastle! X

designerbaby · 08/01/2010 13:04

Arcadie - you still get to be bridesmaid when pregnant? My BF "fired" me from bridemaid duties when I told her I was pregnant last time!?

Oh, and guess what - the Gas guys turned up today to connect the gas after all!! Turns out they got my email and the second customer services rep I spoke to chased it up... And then our builders rang this morning and said "the Gas guys are here - I thought you said they couldn;t come until the 25th!?

Delighted, obviously, now just got to try and undo the cancellation and rescheduling of the meter installation which I'd done yesterday...

Still, that's one less thing to worry about, anyway!

Night-time increasingly uncomfortable here too... but hips/back pain rather than restless legs... No amount of pillows seems to help... I'm like an old woman, it seems to take about twenty minutes in the morning for everything to un-seize and I can move around properly. in the night, if I have to get up for DD it's REALLY painful.

Visiting the house again tomorrow! Yay...

SnowballProofMum · 08/01/2010 13:04

You're right in that palms and feet are the itching to worry about.

DH has takne the boys out so I should really get on and do wome work. The thought of a na thought is becoming overwhelming!

I really hope school's reopen next week.

My BHs are getting stringer and stronger and when the bounces on my cervix it feels like it will fall out!

Switch between 'My god... still 9 weeks to go' and 'OMG only 9 weeks to go!'

The one thing I do know is roll on mat leave!

hecklephone · 08/01/2010 13:39

Am browsing on M&P website - how cute is this?? I would sooo love to get this for DD2 but reeeaally don't think I can justify it! We have loads of blankets and things from DD1 and plenty of rugs to play on. But still...so cute!

Trying to motivate myself to do some work, but it will involve typing at the freezing computer and my hands are already cold, so my willpower to do anything is low. I'd rather take myself to the sofa with a blanket and Ina May's book!

Thanks for the Spatone link pacific, I might just check it out.

db at your BF 'firing' you from bridesmaid duties! Was she worried your beautiful, blooming figure would ruin her wedding photos? Or that you'd throw up on the cake or something??

Braved the minus temps to walk to the shop this morning - it's really nice and sunny here and I enjoyed the chance to stretch my legs a bit I must admit. Then had a visit from a very nice health visitor who was making herself known before DD2 shows up. I guess I'll be seeing more of her in a couple of months!

DH and I are going to the cinema tonight - yay! DD will be staying with her gran so I think we're going to have a meal and then go see Avatar (in 3D) or Sherlock Holmes. I can't wait!

heckle that M&P snuggle is sooo lovely, it may have to be bought!

Also, major at your cinema / meal / date tonight, let us know what the film is like

pixie - yes with DS1 and very moved with DS2, although I'm expecting to cry for different reasons at the 36 week scan when they tell me that DS2 is going to be a whopper

Read somewhere today that it's a good idea to have labour bag packed by 33 weeks, mine is half done, just need to add my "gorgeous HotMilk PJ's" that I've ordered and a load of snacks

Arcadie · 08/01/2010 14:08

DB It's my sister that I'm bridesmaid for so sacking me was ABSOLUTELY out of the question! (And the other bridesmaid is pregnant too).

BPM / SPM I'm with you on the bouncing on cervix malarky. at small child when he/she makes me cry out in pain in the supermarket!

Have also had a full 5 minutes of PROPER contraction pain today ( believe me I've done labour twice - it was PROPER pain). Luckily/embarrassingly it was poo related not baby related. It's all the same nerves right?! It made me remember the exact kind of pain I get in labour..... I'm planning on the good drugs now!

hecklephone · 08/01/2010 14:13

mumbot those PJs are FAB. Great, now there are two things I'm going to have to fight the urge to order!!

Pixie really glad the scan was successful and reassuring. I didn't cry at my recent scans, but I kind of think perhaps if I was having twins and saw the two up there on the screen it would seem even more miraculous than just the one wee bean, so I certainly don't blame you for having a weep!

MummyElk · 08/01/2010 14:27

hello me again
very quick again because apart from her nap i've been a terrible mother to DD today and i really should feed her and play with her at some point....

thanks for Nct-ness will take a look

really for sariska and other such itchy people - i had this really badly last time AND interestingly it returned shortly after birth, i thought i was going to scratch my skin off!!! awful awful.... reiterate the lots of moisturiser regularly thing - in the end i found it was only Aqueous Cream that really did the trick (E45 would do but you could get a big tub for free on prescription). One very understanding GP also prescribed me Aqueous with 5% menthol mixed in, it was A-MA-ZING at cooling me down even if it did make me smell a bit toothpasty... not helpful to be suggesting prescriptions at 2pm on a friday afternoon i know but hey.

right must dash. i can't WAIT FOR THE WEEKEND, i get my husband back and hopefully between the two of us we'll find the rest of the house under all this crap!!!

Sariska - I also itch, but in specific places: armpits and a place on my scalp. I mentioned armpits to MW and she said that preg women can just become more sensitive to certain things - like deodorant. Since changing my deod, things are better, but still itchy. I'd mentioned it to your MW, especially if you have itchy hands and feet.

Restless leg - one of the weirdest preg symptoms! Both mine get restless in the evenings.

Pixie I'm so glad that your scan went well.

I have an intensive NCT course this weekend in sunny Whitley Bay - if we can get there from Northumberland after another dump of snow tonight. Been to Newcastle today and bought a little fleecy jacket thing in BHS with a credit note I had. When I got it home I realised that the little hood had 'ears'. Hmmm. Is that naff? Come on, be honest?!

Heckle Enjoy the pics. I want to go and see The Road next week - the book is excellent.

We're alos hoping to get to the cinema to see (1) The Road and (2) Avatar. The Road was sthe best book I've read for years. I'm curious why its launch was delayed - it was made a coule of years ago. The reviews have been very good.

However I can't ask Mum to come and babysit in this weather and I'm too stingy to pay a babysitter.

To the first timers it is things like trips to the cinema and quick pints that I miss the most. In fact the ability to 'pop out' for anything.

Empathy to all you itchies - I was bad in my first pregnancy but so far only minor itching.

Pixie - glad to hear that you are still weeping at scans. I have been just as excited/emotional in each pg but I really notice DHs enthusisam waning. With DS1 he'd fell my tummy regularly - barely touches it this time.

Are you all sorted on names? We still haven't decided on our boys name.

must .... do .... some ....work

designerbaby · 08/01/2010 15:20

Shroomer - embrace the ears. They're all over the place. DD1 had a snowsuit which had ears... on the feet . What's THAT about?

IWCAS the snuggle is indeed v. cute but I guarantee you that when your little one comes along, you'll wonder how all babies (including ones selected for M&P photoshoots could be quite so ugly in comparison with your beautiful bundle. I thought that - even when DD broke out in cradle cap and terrible acne at 5 weeks (it happens - don't be shocked...).

As for M&O gorgeousness, I bought a lovely blanket for DD1 from there, which I can honestly say has been used daily (apart from when in the wash) ever since she was born, an still is. It's her favourite and is SOOO soft and snuggly. I'm going to get the same one in another colourway (so DD doesn't keep thinking hers has been stolen by the baby) here: blanket. Not quite so elaborate but warm, gorgeous and very very very useful...

snowballproofmum The Road has Vigo Mortensen in, doesn't it? Therefore would automatically get my vote swoon. arcadie and heckle BF was probably very wise. By the time her wedding came around I was the size of a house, grumpy and very prone to tears. And Arcadie at least both her bridesmaids will match . With my BF friend it would have been me (huge) and two stick insects. I probably wouldn't have thanked her when the pics came back...

Good news about your girls Pixie - must be so reassuring to see them both snuggled up together. And don't feel bad at the crying. I blub at the drop of a hat at the moment. DD was a bit distraught when I dropped her at nursery (she's been quite clingy since the Christmas break) and I completely fell apart... Big heaving dribbly snotty sobbing. They had to go and make me a cup of tea and everything . She was fine five minutes later and painting a picture, I was sobbing all the way to work, and then again at lunchtime when I told DH about it...

Anyway, I'm supposed to be WORKING (3 weeks to go, three weeks to go!! )

hecklephone · 08/01/2010 15:29

db I had already spotted that blanket and love the colours! (can you tell I have the strongest urge to buy something new? Can I blame PG hormones...??) Your recommendation may have given me the push I need! I just remembered I have a £5 voucher for M&P too - what more reason do I need??

Sariska · 08/01/2010 15:39

Thanks for that info Pacific. I'll have a read and decide what to do. Hopefully it won't panic me; I'm not usually a panicker - honest! Hopefully, more moisturiser is all that's needed (will ask about aqueous cream with menthol, MummyElk) but if it persists I'll definitely speak to the midwife pronto. And, Caitni, good to hear about your sister's experience; if it comes to it, it's nice to know that it doesn't always equal early induction (which is something I am vaguely concerned about anyway, given that I think my scan date has me due a week earlier than my own date).

Nice to read that I am not the only one shopping! DHL and the post office have both managed to struggle through the snow and ice here today so I have received various baby-related parcels, including a Moses basket mattress (I am optimistically hoping that I can tote LO around in the Moses basket downstairs during the day; have an Amby for nighttime), a Moby wrap in a gorgeous blue colour (called "Pacific" actually, Pacific - and chosen partly to tone with my favourite coat....), a cute crinkly, squeaky purple lion and two newborn swaddling blankets that come complete with a leg pouch and velcro tabs so are supposedly foolproof (am determined to master swaddling this time).

Now, what other shopping can I do? Will look at the links some of you have kindly supplied . Oh, and big yes to ears. DS had the cutest fluffy brown coat with a stripey blue lining and EARS! Am hoping it won't be too "boyish" for DD.

Hope you manage(d) your trip to Lincoln OK, Arcadie. Joining the at you being sacked from BM when pregnant, DB. Surely it's up to the pregnant person to decide whether or not they want to resign? When I got married my almost 8-month pregnant best friend was one of my BMs. As soon as she told me she was pg, I was begging her still to be BM; luckily, she didn't need any persuading. It was her third child and I think she was really looking forward to a night off from her other children (they were invited but she decided 'twould be less stressful for her not to have them there).

Also waiting for news from Sarah. Hope all is going well.

SnowballProofMum · 08/01/2010 16:08

won't be much room for swooning in the film - the book was very harrowing

SnowballProofMum · 08/01/2010 16:10

I have bought no baby stuff whatsoever. I can't think of anything we need third time around!

I also want to start sorting out all the baby stuff and getting it ready. With the house on the market we have nowhere to put it though
