To be honest, arcadie all I seem to do lately is moan so I'm hoping if I hold my tongue, uh, fingers for a while, then perhaps I might have something a bit more cheery to report!

But I do wish emLou would post and update us re: her scan.

Caitni · 15/12/2009 11:13

Morning ladies

Manda agree that it would be great to hear an update from Em - have been wondering how she got on. And you don't moan - you've been through the mill and this is the perfect place to vent (it's hard to really express these things in RL). Hope you're feeling a bit better. Are you off to your own GP today?

Shroomer glad you had such a great weekend

Arcadie bet you needed a looooooong sit down after that party .

Big waves to everyone else. Hope you're all keeping well

I ended up having great fun at my sister's last night, after my moaning on here yesterday . My star of a DH actually drove across London (for an hour and a half!) so he could drive me home. Much nicer than shivering on a platform waiting for a train back to waterloo . We also picked up the mountain buggy they're giving us (it has such a great carrycot/pram bit too), as well as some bits and bobs her best friend had left for us (steriliser, bath, door swing and things like that). It still amazes me how generous people are with passing stuff on when it comes to babies .

And it feels good to now have the pram, the cot and the car seat...even if they're all unassembled/uncleaned and still living in the cellar since the nursery is still a spare room full of junk .

annamama · 15/12/2009 11:13

Oh yes I was wondering about that too. EmLou?

Sariska · 15/12/2009 11:20

I'm here too - and have also been wondering about EmLouT's scan. I hope she posts soon.

Christmas getting underway here. At DH's insistence the tree, wreath and miseltoe all went up at the weekend. DS loves it. I am doing a lot of vacuuming because much as DS enjoys scooping up pine needles from the floor and putting them in a plastic pot he nicked from the kitchen, he also enjoys tipping them out again.

Went to a lovely Cathedral carol concert with my mother (who has been staying) on Saturday - and enjoyed a cheeky small glass of vino afterwards. Christmas is a rather bittersweet time of year for my family because my father died suddenly at Christmas-time only a few years ago. The arrival of children (my DS and my sister's DD), though, is putting a new spin on things, which helps.

annamama - I was amused to see that my DS is not the only child who likes watching aeroplanes on YouTube. I have to say that the fascination has long since worn off for me!

DB - glad to hear your house is making good progress. I know what you mean about large kitchens; I felt exactly like that when I saw my kitchen begin to come together in our house, which we renovated last year.

Swings, Manda and everyone else who's feeling less than sparkling - feel free to moan away. It is therapeutic and I'm sure no-one minds one iota.

Sariska · 15/12/2009 11:25

Oooh, how nice to start getting all the baby things together, Caitni. I remember that being one of the most exciting parts of my last pregnancy - puzzling out how the pram worked, looking through all the things that a kind friend gave us etc. Am a bit sad that all I have to do this time is sort through the bags of baby clothes in the attic and buy a new mattress. Although I am going to treat myself to a new sling (a Moby, I think) and I did buy my first item of baby girl specific clothing at the weekend: a beautiful hand-knitted pale peppermint-coloured cardigan .

annamama · 15/12/2009 11:31

Haha, yes it gets a bit boring doesn't it! Was thinking of buying her a kids laptop but it's from 6+ years and she's not even 2.

We also have tree up, DD managed to pull on one of the balls so it fell over. DH got angry and told her to go away but she just stood there looking amazed at what she had done.

Swings - no sleep is the worst! Hope you're feeling better.

And I agree with the others, moan away as much as you like Manda etc, that's what we're here for.

siamesecatwoman · 15/12/2009 11:49

hi
Im here too, just keeping quiet.
We had our xmas party on friday lunch and I left at 4.30pm to go shopping (sober) as I was becoming unreasonably hacked off by the constant 'Are you ok?' from someone who just gets on my t*ts anyway but she had taken to asking every 5 mins, and I was ok, until she kept asking..
But my green dress was very comfortable and looked lovely, i thought.

This last week I have definitly noticed that I am pregnant (before I wasnt quite so sure IYSWIM - I was convinced I was pretending!!) - Have definite huge bump, cant sit down for very long without being uncomfortable, and have to wake up to roll over.. and this morning my fingers have swollen so much Ive had to take off my wedding rings. But otherwise Im feeling good, (touch wood) so I feel really sorry for those of you who are suffering.

I went to see a new baby at the weekend - and the parents were refreshingly honest - they are are having a nightmare trying to work LO out. But more worrying is that he was 8lbs and terrifyingly huge in my eyes - now finally facing the fact that this kicking bump will have to come out eventually!! So off to visit the hospital for a tour on monday.

Hope you guys are feeling less snotty and achy, and I hope EmLou checks in with an update soon?

annamama · 15/12/2009 13:55

Siamese - when are you going for your 3d scan?

I feel pretty good too so counting my blessings and touching wood.

We got our old baby clothes out at the weekend, had forgotten how small they are. At first only the "tiny baby" size would fit DD, they look like dolls clothes! The "newborn" size is pretty small too.

EmLouT · 15/12/2009 14:25

Hi all,

sorry for lack of posts. The last few days have been a round of scans tests and trying to keep busy in between.

The news is that baby is still very small with an extremely small abdominal circumference which is often a sign that the placenta is failing and the baby is not getting what he should. Docs are still toying with the "to deliver or not to deliver" question and have decided to keep baby inside for the time being but to do fortnightly scans and keep a very close eye! Am feeling very anxious and wish there was something I could do to help the situation but am told there is nothing I can or could have done. I just have to sit tight and see every day that Lo manages to grow a bit as a blessing.

We have managed to get into the Christmas spirit for the sake of DS who is totally in awe of "his" Christmas Tree and says hello to it every morning - very sweet. I just wish I could relax a bit!

Sorry for the moan. Hope you are all well.

Caitni · 15/12/2009 14:58

EmLouT sorry to hear it's not better news but it sounds like Christmas will be a useful distraction (your DS sounds super cute [ahh]). Everyday that your little one stays inside and grows is good at this stage. But it must be stressful on you, so am sending you big ((((((hugs))))))

Shroomer · 15/12/2009 16:26

EmLou - It's good that the hospital is keeping a regular eye on you. Every 2 weeks is very frequent, and I hope that you see good growth each time. More hugs ((((()))))

MandaHugNKiss · 15/12/2009 17:08

Em Sorry it wasn't better news, but at least the hospital are on top of it and they're right - it's not your fault. I guess even if growth is slow, isn't it better lung-wise to be in a bit longer and so more surfactant?

Of course, as the situation is being managed you should also get the relevant steriods to help the lungs mature if they do decide baby is better out than in. And I've no doubt that baby will catch up beautifully once out.

Aww, your DS sounds a sweetheart.

I'm posting this here for DB as I didn't really want to do it 'out there' in general pregnancy:

Db, Mortlake is exactly it! But as it's one of those 'blink and you miss it' tiny little places, most people don't know it.

Well, I was induced at 42 and 41 weeks respectively so never say never!

What else? Ah, I had the midwife today (Dr tomorrow). Uneventful appointment. Although I've just realised I forgot to take a sample and she didnt ask for one

designerbaby · 15/12/2009 17:41

Em Lou - sorry to hear that bubs hasn;t grown as much as you'd hoped - it;s good that they're not pressing the panic button just yet though...

FWIW worth, I met a wee boy of 4 months who was born at 30 weeks at a birthday party at the weekend. He was a little on the wee side, to be sure, but catching up with his milestones amazingly well and was, quite simply, adorable...

Manda - y, sorry t'other thread got diverted a bit when I found you there... you're completely right, personal stuff like that should be kept in here, where we can bolt the door and draw the curtains and NOT LET ANYONE IN WE DON"T KNOW .

Mortlake is lovely... Well be in Wimbledon/Merton Park area, so just over those enormous bits of green... .

I'm sure there were other SW London people here - quick role call of anyone in a similar neck of the woods?

A sub-list perhaps (is that allowed, Arcadie?)

designerbaby - Wimbledon/Marton Park
MandaHugNKiss - Mortlake

Any more for any more?

So if you're liable to go over, and I AM getting this one out early by sheer force of will before she hits 10lbs, then who knows? See you in Kingston?!

db
xx

PixieOnaChristmasTree · 15/12/2009 17:46

EmLouT, I'm sorry about the bad news - it's good that they're keeping an eye on you, though - the waiting's the worst part though, isn't it?

Manda - Moan if you like - I don't mind!

Annamama, I keep seeing 'tiny baby' clothes when I'm shopping and feeling all sparkly inside - I don't know whether I'm prepared for the reality, though!

DD1 has been fretting this evening - she told me in the car that she didn't want to take the twins out by herself when they are born in case people think she's the mum! I hadn't thought about that, but I suppose people might!

Where were we all yesterday? I came on to post yesterday evening and wondered whether something had happened and chickened out - are we all getting too busy for MN?

EmLouT - It sounds like you're in good hands. I hope that eases the worry a little. But thinking of you nonetheless.

scooby26 · 15/12/2009 20:41

Evening

Emlou - thinking of you. Small but perfectly formed I'm sure. Keep bubs warm in there while you can - your silver lining will be that you may get a cuddle sooner than the rest of us whilst still being confident that the hospital will be doing tehe right thing xx

MummyElk · 15/12/2009 21:18

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 15/12/2009 21:21

Evening, all!

Just checking in to mark my place. RL is a bit much at the moment and I. Must. Sleep.

EmLouT, like everybody else I am sending your and your little LO best wishes.
I remember when I was expecting DS1 a distinct sense of relief at 30 weeks that whatever happened now he would have had a really good chance of a longterm healthy outcome. Little did I know that this was going to be much more of an issue for DS2... (DS1 was born at 42+1 after induction).
I am glad you are getting monitored very regularly. Be kind to yourself, whatever the next few weeks and months bring.
Very very best of luck and keep us posted if you feel you can.

Everybody else: hope you are doing ok.

I am going to see my consultant tomorrow, growth scan after Christmas. I am to start on Vitamin B12 injection to try and improve how well my bone marrow is working. Quite honestly, I'd rather have any number of injections into my backside than even one bone marrow biopsy....

I've ordered my turkey for Christmas Day last week, and a steak pie for New Year's Day. Feel very grown up having done all that .

Loving the Christmas smiley !!

Shroomer · 16/12/2009 08:25

Right - moan time.

Piles - check (brought on by 3 days of not going to loo because was staying in a cottage, and my bottom does not like going on holiday).

Sudden tiredness which hits like a wall - check (tends to hit late morning, mid afternoon. Low blood sugar thing, perhaps?)

Hunger at 4am - check (3 days this week I've woken up hungry and had to get up to eat something. Even then I don't know what's best to eat at that time of night without rotting teeth/exascerbating heartburn; so I often have a banana and milk).

Heartburn - check (though tolerable).

But you know what? I don't care cos it's nearly Christmas!!!

evitas · 16/12/2009 10:14

EmLou - thinking of you xxx

Honestly, I must say I really admire those of you who already have kids... How do you cope?

Hope you all have a good day!

hecklephone · 16/12/2009 11:38

Hello all

Just a quick post as I have (like everyone else, I'm sure) a million and two things to be getting on with instead of MN-ing!

EmLou am thinking of you too - hope bubs gets a wee boost and that you're managing not to worry too much.

Busy busy here but otherwise well, getting more tired I think and trying to cope with an increasingly stroppy DD - she seems to be going through a phase of extra-stubborn behaviour and it's trying my already-quite-thin patience!

Will post more soon, until then, sending virtual mince pies to anyone who needs a boost!

Damn you, heckle your virtual mince pie gave me heartburn

Seriously, I woke at 3.30am with heartburn and couldn't get back to sleep until 7am, despite frantically sucking on rennies. I've never had heartburn before with either of my other two... ack, it really hurts!

I'm still not feeling the christmas spirit, still done hardly any shopping. Oh, and it's been snowing for about an hour.

I hate snow

Holy flipping moly, I really am doing a fantastic scrooge impression.

annamama · 16/12/2009 12:43

IWCAS - yes cleft palate would most likely have been picked up at your 20 wk scan. They told me that my baby's top lip looked fine, think it also mentions it on the report.

Gotta go, picking up DD at nursery (thank god for nursery BTW).
