Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
greensnail · 10/12/2009 19:56

Hi all,

I'm completely exhausted after a mammoth clinic visit this afternoon. Spent about 2 and a half hours at the hospital, followed by an hour and a half battle through the rush hour to get home. Not at all impressed.

Doctor at clinic spent first 5 minutes telling me I can't have cholestasis yet as you can't get it until the last trimester. Then he looked at my blood results and said "ah, I'd better go and discuss this with the consultant". Ended up having about 2 armfuls of blood taken and have to go back to day assessment unit next week. Also have to have a liver ultrasound before this. So anyway, at least something's being done which is quite good I suppose.

Glad scan went well CSWS

How's everyone who is breastfeeding getting along? DD really seems to be cutting back the last few days, not sure if this is related to pregnancy or just her age, but its making me feel a bit

GibberingGinger · 10/12/2009 23:11

Gosh this thread is moving quickly!

Sorry to hear you had a tough time this afternoon greensnail, I hope the doctors get their arse in gear soon and stop believing that everything is textbook.

I had a very easy time breastfeeding, but was obsessed beforehand that I wouldn't be able to. It was the thing I was most hung up about before I had my first. I didn't worry about labour at all, just BF. Turns out I should have worried about labour and not BF! Once you get the latch right its a synch. But that depends on the support you get, and partly on the baby. Can give some tips nearer the time if that'll help, but like others have said, the more informed you are beforehand the better.

This time round for labour I think I'll just go straight for c-section. Last time was awful, and I could maybe face it again if it was just one baby, but with two I think I'll just take the sunroof option. It's not the easy option but I think safer for me in the long run.

Had my nuchal scan today. Was really good. Amazing how much they have come on in just a week. Have to wait a few weeks for the results, but at the moment I'm happy just to see them moving around and stuff.

Hope everyone is getting over the sickness - mine seems to be fading but I don't want to speak too soon!

imkeepingmum · 11/12/2009 10:40

Readysetgo - camembert (plus all other mould ripened/blue cheeses/goats cheese we can't have) is fine to eat cooked. I looked this up on the internet when I first got pregnant and my midwife confirmed it at my booking in appointment.

mampam · 11/12/2009 12:37

imkeepingmum does that mean I could have some stilton cooked in a soup??? I've got a real craving for mushroom and stilton soup but my mum told me to stear clear just in case.

minimoonumbertwo · 11/12/2009 13:13

oh mampam mushroom and stilton???? gross

readysetgo · 11/12/2009 13:32

Thanks imkeepingmum I think I am going to risk it! My midwife was also encouraging me to have a glass of champers on Christmas Day if I fancy one... is anyone going to indulge?? I'm a bit worried about that one! I lurve stilton soup mampam

GibberingGinger · 11/12/2009 14:34

I'm definitely going to indulge in a little wine over christmas. I figure I'll be past the first trimester and all the major organs are formed so a glass or two of wine won't hurt.

At the end of my last pregnancy I was so overdue and someone told me that champagne helped bring on labour, something to do with bubbles (old wives tale). I didn't need telling twice! Didn't work through

imkeepingmum · 11/12/2009 14:42

Yes stilton in soup also ok as long as the stilton is hot (ie you haven't just thrown in last minute!) I had some last week!

On the wine, DP and I usually indulge in bucks fizz on Xmas day - might have a glass if I fancy it

greensnail · 11/12/2009 14:47

I'm hoping to be able to have a glass of champagne on DD's birthday (christmas eve) however I might not manage it. Haven't been able to face alcohol when pg before, however I also couldn't face tea which I'm managing fine this time.

imkeepingmum · 11/12/2009 14:50

Here's the link to the FSA website with the information if anyone wanted confirmation
www.eatwell.gov.uk/asksam/agesandstages/pregnancy/#A219890

mampam · 11/12/2009 15:44

OOOhhh yummy, I cannot wait for my soup with stilton!!! I only ever eat stilton (cold) at Christmas and feel there is something missing this year.....no stilton, biscuits and chutney. Almost feel as if I'm missing a limb cos I can't have it but then my hormones today have been all over the place.

I have sat and sobbed my heart out this afternoon!! Suddenly started thinking how much my grandad and DS would have got on if they had ever met. (Grandad died 10 years ago so sobbing is a bit OTT). Plus DH and I had a row this morn. I called him selfish because he announced to me this morning that we are going Christmas shopping tomorrow then we are going food shopping. I said that seeing as I've barely been out of the house for the last 8 weeks (due to hyperemesis) I think doing both in one day would be too much for me. Cue DH in a major strop.

This was just the icing on the cake for me as last night I decided to straighten my hair. This is a major operation for me as I have very thick afro hair and haven't done it for months cos I've felt so poorly. He was being really OTT about the smell saying he couldn't possibly sleep in the bedroom and the smell was making him feel sick. He openned the windows wide and I asked him to shut them as a house nearby had their fire lit and I cannot stand the smell of the smoking chimney it makes me feel sick!! Cue a strop and me stating that now he knows how I feel when he leaves the living room door open and I can smell 'downstairs' which makes me feel really sick but he still leaves the door open, even DC's remember to shut it!!

So now we won't be speaking when he gets home from work. Oh well peace and quiet I suppose

I really don't think DH can handle a pregnant lady with raging hormones!!!

Rant over, feel better now.

LittleRobbo · 11/12/2009 16:41

oh mampam i hope your DH comes home with flowers and apologies And it is ok to miss loved ones who are departed, regardless of how long ago they passed.

imkeepingmum you really have made my day, baked camembert is my all time favourite and i can have some yay Cue me with a whole ciabatta,a jar of redcurrant jelly and the glorious camembert, mmmmmmm happy days

dinosaurinmybelly · 11/12/2009 16:45

Stilton soup sounds delicious - do you make your own mampam? If so - could I have the recipe?

Sorry to hear you are hormonal and a bit sad. I always feel better after a good cry though. Re: row with DH. Maybe you can break the ice with a short text today so that he comes home in a better mood. That usually works for me. My DH is quite stubborn, but is gushing with apology if only I make the first step towards a reconcilation, so I'm happy to do it. Life is too short...

mampam · 11/12/2009 18:01

Dinosaur yes I make it myself, will give you the recipe once I've dug it out.

And it's too late for me to text DH, he's already been home for the last 45 minutes. He's downstairs and hasn't been up to see me so I guess he's still in a strop!

As for flowers, never in a million years. The only time he's ever bought me flowers was for Valentines day when we first started seeing each other.

The only way this will be over is when I just carry on as if nothing has happened and brush it all under the carpet bit hard to do though when he's downstairs and I'm upstairs!!!

readysetgo · 11/12/2009 19:31

Aww Mampam - it's awful when they don't really get it.

A bit different as it's generally my fault when we argue, but my partner backs out of the room wide eyed when I'm hormonal at the moment, they can't handle it can they Then he says... are you a bit hormonal? Which always sets me off! "You don't understand... You blame it all on hormones but it's YOU!!..." Luckily these hormones have temporarily settled... for now!

RnB · 11/12/2009 20:25

Aw Mampam, hope it all resolves itself...

How did your hair turn out?

mampam · 11/12/2009 21:02

RnB I feel so much better with straight hair!! It feels like the first step to getting and feeling like my normal self.

readysetgo maybe we need to write a handbook for men....'How to cope with irrational, hormonal women'.

DH still in a mood. Slamming doors etc, he's worse than my 10 year old DD, who thankfully, along with DS are at their dad's for the weekend. I couldn't cope with 2 stroppy buggers in the house at once!

He's now made his way up here to the bedroom and is sat curled up in the chair. Giving me the silent treatment.

MEN!!!!!!!!

upsydaisysexstylist · 11/12/2009 21:24

greensnail Hope the drs are paying attention to you and not the books. My ds seems as keen as ever on booby , but has upped his intake of other fluids especially milk and started saying me hungy after morning feed whereas I used to have to wait an hour to have any chance of getting breakfast down him. If I rember rightly he's older than your lo though, 21mnths

Cadmum · 11/12/2009 22:08

Just a quick hello (and marking my place). My parents are here from Canada and dh is still in Copenhagen so I am not likely to find much time for MN until he is back. I will try to keep up though.

I had my blood test results back and was somewhat surprised to discover that one of the things tested for here (Switzerland) is vitamin and mineral levels. Has anybody else ever had similar testing? I am in over some of the levels as I must be malnourished if these results are correct and this has lead me to question the sanity of testing for this following 8 weeks of feeling nauseous, sick, and barely able to eat anything... Hopefully I can request a do-over at my next appointment on the 23rd before supplements are prescribed.

I must go to bed...

mampam · 12/12/2009 09:32

Cadmum never heard of having vitamin and mineral levels tested as routine here in the UK. Good idea though.

Got in the car at 8 o'clock this morning to go Christmas shopping and low and behold the car had virtually packed up! Would only crawl along at 5 miles an hour foot to the floor!! These things could only happen to us right before Christmas!!

Just to top it off DH has been out there fiddling with it and now it won't even start. I am f**king fuming with him. He just can't leave things alone. Now we can't get it to the garage and it'll cost us extra to have it towed.

(I aplogise for my swear word).

Not having a good couple of days am I?!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/12/2009 09:54

Ah, dh's car wouldn't start yest due to flat battery mampam. He's used the jump leads on it this morning, and now it starts but the petrol gauge has packed up. That happened once before and of course he then ended up running out of fuel!

LittleRobbo · 12/12/2009 20:58

mampam i really really hope next week is better for you

mampam · 13/12/2009 09:54

Hi all. I ended my post yesterday by saying 'Not having a good couple of days am I' well things yesterday went from bad to worse.

After the car incedent DH went outside to have a go at fixing it and made it worse. I then gave him a right mouthful and to cut a long story short DH had some kind of Mental Breakdown.

It was really frightening. He started crying, which in over 4 years together I have never seen him do, not even when his maternal grandparents died he never shed a tear. He was shaking and saying he wanted to climb onto the roof. He wasn't coherent, couldn't stand on his own, I even had to help him to go to the toilet which he didn't want me to do he said he wanted to wet himself. He was vacant.

In the end I phoned NHS Direct, spoke to a lovely nurse who got a Doctor to phone me back. The joys of living in rural Devon then came into play because the Doctor was based at a hospital 40 minutes away and wouldn't come to the house because he was 'busy'! So expected me to get DH to the hospital for assessment without a car. My parents were in France for the day and we don't really have many close friends so the ones I tried were out. Eventually got hold of them and the H of the pair was fantastic. He came straight over and was brilliant with DH.

Anyway cutting a long story short he was given Diazapam (sp?) and told to rest and see his GP on Monday. He's ok-ish when the tablet takes affect but when it wears off the only way I can describe it is like talking to an old person who is losing their marbles. This morning I went downstairs to make his breakfast and when I came back he was sitting in the middle of the bed because he couldn't remember which side of the bed he sleeps on.

Anyway enough of my problems. Thanks for letting me vent (again) it feels good to get it all out and I promise I won't put my silly problems on here again.

Thanks again
