Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My sister has just volunteered to help get the house straight and sort through the contents of the loft (MUG) She looked at my wish list and asked me what happened to the stuff i had last time!!! And I ended up telling her that the items i had borrowed had been returned to their original owners and that the things which belonged to me and I lent out went missing so now I have a longer list than anticipated. Found my baby monitor only to find that it no longer works so that needs to be added to the wish list. Have categorically told everyone that if this turns out to be another girl not to buy clothes, I would rather have nappies, wipes, johnsons products and formula if we fail on the breast feeding front.

Have already bought some steribottles and cartons of sma gold to take into hospital with me just in case a) cannot establish breast feeding (b) if they have stopped providing formula. Last time they had cute little 4 oz bottles of formula and teats which fitted straight onto the glass bottle and you threw them away when finished.

Am going to start packing my bag durring the week before i get nagged to death by mum who is sure that i am not going to get as far as my due date (note she said that last time round and DD turned up 7 days late). But i want an easy/peaceful life.

Redhelen · 03/07/2005 21:23

Yes - thats a good point about the hospital providing milk - they did when I had my son - but maybe no more? H

jessysmummy · 03/07/2005 23:07

Evening all!
I'm catching up and posting tonight as I have a very busy day at work tomorrow and don't want to be tempted to take a sneaky peek at MN.!
Well I've finally done it...started getting together some things for my hospital bag. Only breast pads, maternity pads and some of those lurvely disposable pants, but it makes me feel a bit better.
Had MW appt on fri. Was nice to hear baby's heartbeat again. Very funny to see DD's reaction to noise and someone poking around HER mummy's tummy. Grwoth has slowed back down now. Have been 2 weeks ahead of dates but now on schedule. Seem to remember that DD was the same. SO don't see MW for 6 weeks now - very strange, though I have to go and get some bloods done this week for iron test, etc. Glad this is no 2 otherwise would be panicking about lack of MW attention.
Redhelen - glad you shared your experience with us. Hope it has eased your mind a little. Do you have someone that you can talk your fears over with (a little easier than trying to type)? Perhaps your friend who is also expecting and had a rough time last time? Maybe she could let you know how she has been able to take such a positive view? Anyway, at least you know that it's all worth it in the end with your DS
Boompi - Poor you , no sugar for 2 weeks. YOu'll need it for energy if nothing else. Hope you manage ok. I got a BF chair the last time round. My sister (who has 2 sons) looked at me like I was completely mad when I told her that DH insisted on buying it for me. I know it was an extravagance but I love it and even though DD is 17m and not BF anymore I still rock her in it. It's so comfortable and as I'm quite tall I found that even with a v pillow I was slouching to reach her.
Jaxpax & STM - DH always says I'm much randier when pregnant doesn't mean that I get any more than usual, though. He doesn't have a hang up about baby being in there somewhere but I am always very careful not to say things like "oh, I just felt baby move..." mid session. Would definitely put him off!
KF - hope you had a lovely weekend. Sounds very relaxing - just what the doctor ordered.
Anyway, off to bed now. Hope all of you and bumps are well. We'll see if I manage to stay away from MN tomorrow. Just don't make any interesting posts that I just HAVE to reply to...
Sorry this is so long, night night x

Boompi · 03/07/2005 23:13

Did anyone elase find the Live 8 concert made them cry - when that young Ethiopian woman came on stage I kost it completely!! Hormones. Have just given up our tickets to see REM in Hyde Park next weekend as realised I am never going to be able to stand for hours - and rely on portaloos How was B-live LadyL?

DH painted nursery (white) yesterday and curtains hung I went through boxes of baby stuff from friend. The sizes are a joke - At one stage had various bodysuits raonging from newborn to 18months - and all looked identical in size! And some newborn outfits are tiny whilst other makes look like they should be propping for England!! Have 30 white bodysuits from 0 - 3 !!!
Still in a dilemma re prams - looking at micralite now.

Boompi · 03/07/2005 23:17

Thanks JM - am just coping!! I am starting to miss wine in the evenings too - I dont think a small amout is bad but it tastes foul! It the idea that is so appealing. 9 weeks to go!

LadyLazarus · 04/07/2005 08:07

The Jamiroquai concert was fab, really enjoyed it, lots of snazzy lights and a good atmosphere. Only needed the loo once and managed to stand for most of the gig (although had a chips-break where we had a sit down tho!). Felt good to have a proper night out for once, and as it was outside it wasn't smoky and not too loud, so was ideal really.

Is anyone else having problems sleeping? I keep getting up at 6am or 6.30 (and remember, I've finished work now, so I don't need to get up this early!!) and am then knackered by 9am...

I'm off to meet 2 of my friends from nursing college today, who are strangely both pregnant at the same time as me! One of them is due in 3 weeks, so let's hope the meet-up is not too overwhelming for her

Right... I'm off to put the Hypnobirthing CD on and hopefully have a nap...

moschops · 04/07/2005 09:52

morning everyone!

i was woken at 2.15am this morning by the phone ringing and ringing so, heart pounding, i heaved myself out of bed to answer the phone to some pillock who had got a wrong number wouldn't have minded but it seems if i can manage through till about 4am i only need the loo once in the night. if i'm disturbed i never seem to get off to sleep properly again and my bladder knows it.

today dp and i have been together 12 years!! i can hardly believe it..........was it really so long ago.....that summer of fun, new friends and spinetingling new love? feeling a bit emotinal about it today, thinking of everything we have been through together and what wonderful adventures we have in front of us as a family instead of a couple.

oh bugger i've made myself cry........although hormonal blubbering seems to be a daily occurence for me now!!

Redhelen · 04/07/2005 10:29

moschops

Oh bless! - I know what you mean about the water works - I can cry for any and every reason.Have a great anniversary (if you have the energy!)

Like you really stuggling to get good sleep too - the last thing you need is a wrong number.

My dh has gone away for 3 days on a course - and I know it sounds crazy - but I'm dreading being on my own (well with 5 year old) I've felt so weak and poorly recently (can't wait for the iron tablets and new diet to click in, and knock the anaemia on the head!!)Love Helen

moschops · 04/07/2005 10:37

i am on iron tablets at the moment......but i always make a point of asking my midwife what my blood count is........first one was 11.9ish and the 28 week test came back at just above 10. she said a normal level is considered to be between 12 and 14. i am not surprised i am slightly anaemic as i am really struggling to eat......every single food item on the planet is revolting at the moment!!

andif · 04/07/2005 11:21

Boompi, you were not alone in blubbering at the live8 concert! Definitely a bit of an emotional wreck at the moment. Went into Kingston for John Lewis sale yesterday (bargain baby towels, and a teddy, but that's about it!!). Went to sit down at bus stop on way home, but some little dear had taken the screws out of the seat, so I collapsed into a heap. Nearby teenage girls found this very amusing until I bit their heads off and burst into tears - wasn't so much the pain as the shock
By the way, I looked at the micralite too, but the lady in John Lewis said the pushchair hardly reclines, and a Mum at school has one and her (small) 18 month old looks SO uncomfortable in it - very squashed and slouchy. Shame, as it looks great!
LadyL, sleep is still a problem for me as it has been all the way through. Loo trips, weird lifelike dreams, cramps, itchy legs etc etc all gang up against me. Have just dragged myself around the park with the dog, now can't be bothered to do anything except MN!!
Started talking about what to do with dog and kids when I go into labour. Feel like the pg thing is never going to end, so find it hard to take the idea of going into labour seriously!! My parents usually spring into action, but they are due to be away in North Wales on a narrrow boat on my due date, so looks like we need a plan B....!!

Redhelen · 04/07/2005 11:47

hello

My iron/anaema count was 8.5 - the doctor says it will take me at least 2 weeks to get to the minimum acceptable level which is 10. I can't beleive I've got this low - I've been taking Pregnacare too- think it must be the crazy amount of caffine free tea I drink - stopping absorbtion! No wonder I feel like a zombie - an emotional zombie obviously!!

I was crying at Live 8 too - when they showed the 85 videa of the girl close to death & then on she came just having taken her exams and looking great. I was try to explain how ill she had been and how well she is now to my son- and was crying my eyes out (ha ha I've started again -wheres the tissues!)

Oh I can't wait till the babys born - Don't feel at all like myself!!Must distract myself by starring at some cute baby stuff for a while and telling myself that it will all be worth it in the end!!

I'm going to eat some thing horrible now - spinach etc - then going to do parent help at school and then to a 5 year olds party - ye ha!

Redhelen · 04/07/2005 11:49

OH PS

Have you considered a Quinney?

I've got the Zapp and the Maxi Cosi car seat attachment rather than a pram - as I have pram and just wanted a quick transporter from car to school for the school runs.

I think the Quinney Buzz looks good too with the lovely pram addition.

Helen

andif · 04/07/2005 12:00

We followed exactly the same process - micralite, then Quinny Buzz, but too heavy, ridiculous storage, so settled on Mountain Buggy. Got a new one for £320 on ebay - over £100 cheaper than John Lewis!

Piccalilli · 04/07/2005 13:29

Helen, sorry you're feeling so dreadful - I hope you manage to get your iron levels up quickly.

After the excitement of finding out last week we're having a baby girl, we finally got ourselves organised and bought most of Mothercare at the weekend. Cost a small fortune but I'm feeling a lot more prepared now. We had out first antenatal class at the weekend as well - they showed a video of the birth and every woman in the room crossed her legs.

RedZuleika · 04/07/2005 14:17

Hello hello. Have been away for the last week in the Yorkshire Dales, with the dog and the husband. Managed to get completely sunburnt there again as I never think it will be sunny enough to warrant suncream - if I was a lab rat, I'd be dead by now - and I didn't know that your skin is more photosensitive when pregnant. Surprised myself by my level of energy: managed a few walks of 4 - 5 miles, although gradients were a wee bit of a problem (like a steam engine huffing up the long drag...). Also enjoyed my first real ale since about Christmas - albeit (wash my mouth out and tear up my CAMRA membership) in the form of a shandy. Oh - the shame...

Re: cramp. I think that as well as being caused by dehydration, or the baby lying on the wrong nerve or something, it can also be caused by low calcium / vitamin d levels (the latter aiding absorption of the former), low magnesium or low potassium. Not quite sure where you get magnesium from (hard water, I think is one main source) but potassium is in bananas.

STM - surely it's a bit early to be bandying words like 'Caesarian' around...? I thought that the science of pelvometry had been discredited - and might even be specifically dismissed in NICE guidelines as a reliable indicator. From what I read, your pelvis can expand to provide up to 30% more room during labour, depending on which position you adopt.

LadyLazarus: Does your husband think that waterbirthing is for hippie chicks, trying to get in touch with their inner mermaid - rather than a serious alternative to chemical pain relief...? My midwife has just told me that pethidine only takes 4 minutes to cross the placenta from injection - and I feel for myself that's something I'd like to avoid.

Re: bleeding afterwards. I've read that you're more likely to bleed for longer if you have a managed third stage. With a physiological third stage, you bleed more heavily initially, but it stops sooner.

I had my first leaky nipple last week. Only a little bit, but it gave me a turn when I saw the stain the next morning. I've gone right off sex actually - partly for the very reason that I don't feel I can trust my body at the moment, there's no knowing what it will get up to...

mummyhill · 04/07/2005 14:56

As it is independance day today and we are owened by an american company we have been told we can dress up as cowboys etc for work today. Do you think i can get away with my denim dungarees and a checked shirt with dd's cowboy hat on?

mummyhill · 04/07/2005 14:57

Should add at this point that i am on lates and am not starting till 18:45 tonight.

Boompi · 04/07/2005 16:10

Ok - have done it - Bought a M&P Pramette for £255. Decided after obsessing about this blinking pushchair for so long I had to make a decision. I am usually so decisive - I bought our home faster than this!! When guy in shop said he could knock £45 off the price - so even cheaper than new on ebay - I gave in. I know I will want a Maclaren Triumph by the time little one is 4 months or so...but have accepted that. And the fact that I may regret my choice. Resale value after 6 months,if in good cond, is about 50% it seems - Or keep for baby no 2
Loved the Quinny's looks but no shopping basket(!) - wouldnt work and I needed something that umbrella folded. Its done now. It really is like buying expensive equipment for a sport you've never played!

ych · 04/07/2005 16:17

mummyhill - sounds good to me, think you will look fab!

milward · 04/07/2005 16:18

We've had to buy a new car to fit all 4 kids in!! - wondeful to drive. Just loving it. I'll be using a maxi-cosi car seat & the maxi-taxi pushchair that goes with the car seat. Have to fix it after it was broken by use of buggy board - but seems ok to sort out. I use a baby bjorn babysling over a pram as easier to get about - when faced with pavements & stairs - so much easier. Also at the supermarket - can push trolley & carry baby with dd3 in the trolley seat.

bubbles2904 · 04/07/2005 19:30

hi everyone, i also have bought my pram now, got a m&p one, can't remember the name, freestyler i think. it's lovely too. can't seem to get my backside in gear to sought everything else out though. my niece gets christened on sunday, and i'm godmother, gonna look like a right fatty at the altar!!! got a 3d scan booked for the 13th, can't wait, despite the negative response from a mw at work, seems they always turn their nose up at new technology!! can't believe i only have 19 working days left and 8+5 days left now, it's going so fast, we'll all have our babies before we know. has anyone else's ms returned?

bubbles2904 · 04/07/2005 19:30

sorry. meant sort it out. damn pregnancy brain lol

Kiwifruit · 05/07/2005 10:27

Hi All

Had a fab time at the Hen's weekend - it was very chilled, just as well, as don't think I could have coped with a nightclub! Discovered that I haven't gone of champagne (have gone off all other alcohol), which is a shame, as had 1 1/2 glasses, which left me gagging for more. Judging by the baby's movement, it was enjoying it too!

Have been so tired, and sleeping really badly. Our bed is a double, and tiny when you try to get me, my belly, and 6'5'' DH into it. I wake up every time I turn over as I'm worried about falling out! Last night I resorted to sleeping in the spare room, and it was bliss! Didn't even wake up for the loo, which is a minor miracle.

Boompi - I fell in love with the Quinny Speedi when I saw it online, then was really disappointed when I saw it in the flesh - it folded down to the size of a small car, which is no good if you're going to have to get it in the boot! Good on you for making a decision - I'm still wavering and have absolutely no idea what to buy!

Boompi · 05/07/2005 11:11

Bubbly is the only alcohol I have enjoyed too and know lots of my pregnant mates say so too! Weird. Also keep on being told its good for breastfeeding - not sure what that means but I wont complain. Will hopefully go well with the ripe brie and liver pate meal I am longing for!

The phrase - 'folds to the size of a small car' was exactly how I descrided the Quinny to DH!!

mummyhill · 05/07/2005 11:28

Ohh for a prawn cocktail, stilton and crackers oohh and pate. Serious blow out called for as soon as possible after the birth i think. Gone off most wines and avoiding spirits as they allegedly do more damage but am enjoying the ocassional can of caffrey's bump seems to like it to.

Sleep is impossible, don't finish work till 11 most nights and am buzzing by the time i get home, my brain won't switch off. Then if i do manage to doze off you can guarantee that DD will wake up and that will be it for the rest of the night. Have tried settling for a nap whilst she is at prenursery but then find that i can't wake up in time to go and fetch her.
