Woowa - Well done on getting home! Good to hear there are other knitters and crocheters on here, are any of you on Ravelry? I spend far too long listing all the things I plan to make on there and not enough time making them!
I've had the sewing machine out today, picked up a car seat from my friend yesterday but they had lost the newborn insert bit so I've made a new one for it. Now I'm looking at bag ideas and may finally get round to making a new change bag.

I weighed myself for the first time this pregnancy today and I've put on about 2 stone, does that seem a lot? I'm 37 weeks today I think. Bump is massive though, that is my excuse!

I need to pack my hospital bags this weekend then I think I am fairly sorted.

I'm amazed that no one has had their babies yet, I keep coming on here expecting someone will have had one and so far nothing.

DorindaG · 09/01/2010 18:49

I'm 36 weeks today and have put on about 2 stone as well, so don't worry!
Now I'm on maternity leave I've suddenly started eating on and off all day, which is a little bit worrying when it comes to getting rid of the weight afterwards, but on the other hand it's nice to have a good excuse to keep the metabolism going.

Hospital bags finally all packed up today.
Due 6th Feb - not long to go(eek)!

GuernseyFrench · 09/01/2010 19:06

ktpie I'm 34+5 and I've put on 10kg (which I think is 1.5 stones).

I'm still cooking in prevision for freezing, the house smells of curry and spices at the present as I'm doing a pork curry. Tomorrow it will be white fish balti with red lentils.

Good luck to everybody stuck in the snow, for us snow is there in the morning but it melts by lunchtime leaving black ice on the roads and pavements.

ktpie · 09/01/2010 20:10

Now I'm not too sure whether it was 2 stone or 3 stone! May have to reweigh myself.

Impressed by all the cooking going on, we have been stocking up our freezer with ingredients but apart from some quick "freezer meals", pizza, scampi etc, we haven't got much proper stuff in there. Luckily DH is very happy to cook and can whip up lots of lovely quick meals so we should be OK.

AngelaCarleen · 09/01/2010 20:19

Pyjamababe I found info on oil here, but just bought the stuff from mothercare. Be warned though, DH and I tried to do this for the first time tonight and just ended up laughing and not getting very far perineal massage

Dh has found a new use for my gym ball, he reckons it's a perfect seat for playing his playstation. That is until he fell backwards off it and nearly knocked himself out!

xx

BabyGiraffes · 09/01/2010 22:02

Hi, can I still join? Due 11 Feb and have one dd aged 2.6 who has just turned into a little monster. I think she has an inkling that the baby bump is going to be a real baby soon - and suddenly she has regressed and wants to be held like a baby and fed at mealtimes. Quite funny in a way but can get a bit much.. I'm trying to be sympathetic. Any advice anyone?
Spending far too much time on mumsnet due to being pretty snowed in...

stoofadoof · 10/01/2010 01:53

Perineal Massage - link to another MN'ers how to guide - its the third post down... www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/882031-Perineum-massage-specific-questions

ktpie · 10/01/2010 08:34

DH burst my bubble and informed me it was 3 stone not 2, oh well. I guess I haven't done any exercise while I've been pregnant and have been stuffing my face.
I daydream at the moment about going out running or for long walks, hopefully I'll still be so keen when I am able!

Hi BabyGiraffes - no advice on your dd, my ds is only 18 months and doesn't understand what is happening which is perhaps a good thing!

Haven't tried the perineal massage, had an episiotomy last time, which had been my worst nightmare but actually was relatively OK.

mawbroon · 10/01/2010 10:01

Hey, finally an upside of having my leg in plaster!! I will now have no idea what I actually weigh

I am trying very hard not to stuff my face with junk, but the cupboard is still full of it after christmas. At least it is on a high shelf where I can't reach it, and have to wait to be offered it by somebody.

Baby has been rummaging about making movementst that probably would ahve been descirbed as fluttering when he was smaller, but now it is full on shoogling! He isn't breech, but he's not lying perfectly either. Wait and see i guess...

Nikki87 · 10/01/2010 11:00

woowa i was shocked at the price too, im trying to persuade DP's to buy it for me, lol!
I've put on 11ish kg [anyone know what that is in 'normal' weights?] i'm 35weeks, MW said its about average gain, but i feel huge!!!!!!
welcome babygiraffes, due the day before me

sunnybump · 10/01/2010 12:12

Hope you get your walking cast soon Mawbroon, I'd be tempted to get the goodies moved down a shelf, after all we need the extra calories to keep warm when its minus 10 outside.

Having moved out of the inlaws' and into our own house I don't have access to scales, hooray. Quite a few folk have said I have a neat and tidy bump for 34 weeks though and I'm sticking with the shrinking theory as the reason my favourite maternity jeans no longer fit my posterior

I'm on ravelry too, and yes my list of projects is super long. I've been doing a few bits of sewing recently though and found this blog today. Very cute projects for baby things...

prudentbaby.blogspot.com/

Off to pick up some baby bits from the Inlaws, buy a cot, then preg yoga starts again tonight. I so need the stretches that make your ribs expand.

Hope everyone has a chance to chill out today,
xx

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 10/01/2010 16:06

Could someone tell me the name of that cocoon type thing - from France - which is put in the cot and gives the baby extra support? Thanks.

flyingcloud · 10/01/2010 16:20

It's called the cocoonababy and it's made by Red Castle. It is expensive though, if we hadn't been given it as a gift, and if it hadn't been recommended by a few people over here already I think I would have baulked at the price. Buy it in England if you can find it!

woowa · 10/01/2010 16:52

babygiraffes you share my due date! But i'm a first timer, so I'm afraid I have no advice.

Baby's rucksack arrived yesterday in the post (don't worry, I won't make it carry it for a few months ), so now I can pack its stuff too for hospital. If i put my stuff in the same bag as its stuff there will be total chaos in the hospital as I have the ability to spread the contents of a case over as wide an area as possible within 5 minutes of opening it!

MWs here don't weigh PG women, and I've given up since DH expressed his shock and amazement!! Maybe I will now, just out of curiosity!!

Nice to hear about other knitters and sewers! I am on ravelry but only really use it to find patterns as I'm too lazy to post pics of stuff i've knitted. And gosh, I've just realised how selfish that sounds - i benefit from others doing it and I don't do it myself. hmmm. May have to post something sometime... have knitted loads for sproglet, now just need to get it all sewn up! The dull bit. I'll check out that blog, sunnybump, i could do with some sewing inspiration for baby. Though curtains for its room may have to do for now!

woowa · 10/01/2010 16:55

sunnybump oooooooooooooooooooh, nice things on that blog...thanks!

stoofadoof · 10/01/2010 21:09

reached new levels of pregnancy numptiness here yesterday... did some baking with DD - marmalade buns, popped them in the oven and 5 minutes later started to curse our rubbish oven (it IS!) and swore i'd be getting onto the landlord on monday cos buns should NOT be burnt on the top 5 minutes after going in at the right temperature... rah rah rah... then i noticed i'd left the switch to 'grill' rather than 'bake' ... SO glad i didn't make that phone call!!

hope everyone has enjoyed their weekends - finally rained here last night so it's all looking a bit greener outside this morning, and a little cooler - which is nice... oh and my hypnobirth book has turned up, so i'll be starting to read that! best get that bag packed too...

esselle · 10/01/2010 22:48

Can I have some snow please!??

It is going to be 43c here today and I think I might cry! Will just put on the air con and tv and challenge my kids to watch as much tv as possible.

Hope you are all feeling well.

stoofadoof · 11/01/2010 00:27

oh esselle don't envy you that at all!! Think i'm turning into a softy kiwi - it's only 23 here today and i'm feeling a bit chilly!! i've been cursing tho the last couple of weeks when its been early 30's - don't think i'd handle 43 at all!!! My mum has been stuck in at home cos it's been -22 for the last few days and very icy.. she gets here next week - think we'll need to take her shopping for some cool clothes on the way home from the airport!

Dee2009 · 11/01/2010 09:50

I am so sick of all this snow!! To start with my DH is self employed managed to work a few days last week planned to get back to normal today but woke up to an extra 3-4" on top of what we'd already got!! He's managed to get to 1 job as they are expecting a baby any time as well, and he is putting the flooring in the nursery fir them. We've got another snow waring for the next 2 days so he prob wont get anywhere then either, knowing our luck he will be back at work when babe arrives and not be able to have more than a day off!! I'm also so sick of being stuck indoors!! We live out in the sticks and there is nothing but ice under the snow so i can't really go out!! I also have high BP and prot in my urine an am swollen every where and have to be checked everyother day at the hospital!!

Sorry for such a big rant but this really is strating to get me down, as i'm sure it is for other people too!!!

esselle · 11/01/2010 10:45

Okay I have definately had enough now - it is 9:42pm and still 38C!

Thank god I have a big tub of ice cream in the freezer or DH would be out on a supermarket run!

Just a little sprinkle of snow please...

mawbroon · 11/01/2010 12:25

I am not sure which is worse at this late stage of pregnancy - us with our snow, or you guys with your extreme heat!!

Baby was very active this morning and I think he's moved again. Not head down I may add, but perhaps all the shuffling means he's thinking about it....

I am going to the fracture clinic today. It will be the first time I have been over the doorstep since I got home from the hospital last Sunday night. The snow is melting, and DH has done a great job keeping the path clear, so as long as it's all cleared at the hospital end, I should be ok on my crutches. My abs (or what's left of them) are feeling the strain of using the crutches - and that's just to hop around the house. I don't think I will be able to do any great distance on them. Perhaps I will have to just get into a wheelchair at the hospital.

How are you all doing with names? I have a thread running in the baby names topic, but am still completely undecided....

FluffyCoo · 11/01/2010 12:35

Morning ladies

Welcome babygiraffes!

Weather misery for all then I see! Must admit, snow or no snow in blighty (although i agree, it IS boring now Dee!), I don't envy you right now esselle! I think my internal thermostat broke the second I got pg as I've been permanently roasting hot throughout (normally the world's whiniest cold person too!!) so those sort of temperatures must be misery!

I've had a bit of a weird weekend emotionally - I was in nesting mode for a bit, trying to clear all of the junk out of LO's room and then washed all the little clothes and blankets, but I just can't seem to reconcile this bump I'm carrying around with the fact that I'm going to have an extra little person in my house soon! I just can't get my head around it at the moment - does anyone else get like that or am I just being mental?!

threeplusone · 11/01/2010 14:11

Hope all went well at the fracture clinic Mawbroon.

The weather is doing my head in now..
It worries me when my 2 eldest are off to school as they both have abus journey DS is 20mins and DD is 50mins in normal conditions..

The germans have stopped gritting the minor roads and only grittling one lane on the autobahns as they are running low on grit also.

We do have to have winter tyres out here so they are helping to grit the roads.

Hospital bag is backed and in the cloakroom ready to go. The last of the baby clothes are just drying. I do beleive I am ready for the little man to arrive.. apart from I am awaiting my cardigans to arrive from the UK must chase them up as I cant knot for love nor money.. really envy those that can.

re weight gain I have put on 10kg this tiome. With my first I out on 5.5stones, second 4 stone third 3 stone.
Still another 5 weeks to go so I recon another 3-4kg.. hopefull ynot though.

I am seeing the mkw in the morning as when at the hospital my BP was 170/100 she never gave me the second reading but said it was still high it is normally 120-130/60-70. I also have odema which I know is normal.. and it isnt as bad as what it was with the other tweo boiys but think it was worse with them as they are both high summer babies.

Myust go get DS2 ready to get DS1 fromt he bus. Take care all xx

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 11/01/2010 14:35

Thanks very much flyingcloud. The price is making me think twice but anything which helps with sleep in the first few weeks would be worth it.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 11/01/2010 15:43

Hello All

I'm very late joining, but hope none the less welcome for that!

I'm expecting a girl - my first baby - EDD Feb 21st (I have a strong suspicion she may not make an appearance until March, though...)

I live in Madrid and am far from fluent either speaking or understanding Spanish, so any nerves I'm having about the imminent birth are mainly related to communication issues!

The pregnancy has been great so far - only minor niggles, thankfully. One slight problem at this stage is that she's presenting breech, but I'm doing my best to encourage her to change round with yoga, exercises from spinningbabies.com etc.

I'm keen to try for a natural, active birth if possible - the state hospital we're assigned to seems fairly open to that, so fingers crossed. Here, it's epidural or nothing, however.

I've been enjoying mumsnet very much and I suspect, as an English expat here in Spain, it will prove to be an invaluable link to other Anglo mums and mums-to-be.

Enough about me - best of luck to everyone now in the third trimester, I look forward to getting better acquainted with you all!

lol x
