And not enough ooo's now. That should have been 'too' not 'to'. Good grief, I'm supposed to be a teacher ffs...

MrsJeff · 23/12/2009 14:11

Best of luck with the MIL, pyjamababe! Mine was over (with FIL) on Saturday and it wasn't too bad but she's not terribly interested, to be honest (no bad thing, I've come to decide!). Apart from stating how she thought I'd be huge by now (wasn't sure how to take that one) she didn't mention the bump at all. What did make me laugh was that when I popped to the kitchen to make tea for everyone she followed me in, then made a big fuss about rearranging the tea tray and helped me by....carrying 4 mugs while I carried everything else! Oh well, I guess she's knocking 70 so she shouldn't be putting herself under too much strain...!

Also very jealous of those of you on maternity leave already - thank goodness for Christmas otherwise the prospect of another straight month at work would really have me jumping out of the nearest window!

AbsB · 23/12/2009 14:53

Hello all,

pjbabe - love the idea of your creative writing birth plan, I've yet to do mine... trying to think of a funky motif for the birthing pool (little mermaid or fishies)... and what will future offspring think of jumping about in plastic pool in the summer that was used for "other" purpose! I had whole family round for dinner last night and there was a lot of bump feeling but baby wasn't playing ball and would kick violently as soon as they took their hands away!!

Well the banana, milk, flight sock thing is really working, I'm so impressed and hoping that cramps are a thing of the past

Last day at work before Xmas, thank GOD! This week has been crazy for extra work, being shoved into busy tube train shouting "wait, i'm pregnant!" and not being given a seat... and walking gingerly on ice, taking an extra hour to get in and leave work... thank you winter wonderland for that one!

Ooh, I could kill for a G & T! Back to work...

woowa · 23/12/2009 15:09

ah pjbabe. MILs. Just don't know what to do with mine.

Am on the chocolate now. Too much to do in the next couple of days, wish I could just sit on the computer and let it all flow past me!

pyjamababe · 23/12/2009 17:32

All wrapped. MIL suitably entertained and sent off home, have treated self to half a tray of Roses chocolates as a reward

AbsB I also have a bump that will not kick to order - thinking it must take after the dh who makes donkies look compliant...

Anyway, thought I would share a little tale (true story) I heard at ante-natal last night to cheer up anyone feeling glum with cramps, itchy tummies etc:

Slightly over-excited husband and fairly shy wife arrive at hospital for the delivery of their first child. Labour has been progressing well at home and they are offered the (very new and snazzy) 'home from home' birthing room, complete with 32"plasma TV, kitchenette, sofa and mahoosive birthing pool with integrated light therapy (I want that by the way...). Both are delighted and left by the MW for a few moments to 'make themselves at home'. When she returns, she finds the husband has stripped off completely and jumped in the pool! He is politely asked to get out and put some clothes on...

woowa · 23/12/2009 18:06

I thought DHs were allowed in the pool? I'm sure i've seen a horrendous picture of a woman lying back in her DH's arms while labouring... Perhaps only with clothes.

Or, do you mean, the wife WASN'T in pool with him.

In that case

ARGHHH and lol

woowa · 23/12/2009 18:22

Oh, and to scare you all a bit, someone who was at the first session in my NCT classes (for those due in feb!) didn't come the following week BECAUSE SHE'S HAD HER BABY at 32 weeks...

Has made me think...could theoretically be quite soon now!!! eek!

pyjamababe · 23/12/2009 19:03

No, the wife was sat on the sofa apparently, while he had a little paddle! Also, I'm fairly sure that DHs in the pool should at least be wearing some speedos??!

woowa if this baby comes at 32 weeks then I don't even have anything to wipe its bottom with, let alone sleep in, bath in, wear etc etc. OMG.

threeplusone · 23/12/2009 20:03

HI all just poppping in to say Merry Xmas everyone..
Not been on as been ill with a bad cold and really bad cough.. my throat and musckles around my chest really hurt from all the coughing.. any remedies will be greatly received.. went to the docs who listned said no infection rest and let it run its cause!! Alright to say the week of xmas with three kids running about and getting hyper.. Poor baby musy wonder what is happening when I cough .. IO can handle feeling poorly just hate the way it hurts soo much after a coughing fit i want to cry..

Sorry for ranting.. just feeling really sorry for myself...

Havr a nice xmas everyone

stoofadoof · 23/12/2009 22:23

Christmas Eve down here already! erk! busy day today cos DH working til 7 and i need to try and get everything sorted ready for tomorrow AND entertain DD... still, so far she's being a sweetie... in fact, i should stop faffing about here and go and do some work, but my feet ache so i'm taking 5!!

it occurred to me that we're only 4 weeks away from the first of us actually being classed as term! we'll be on a post-natal thread before we know it... wonder who'll be first?!?! aaargh

well... saw mw few days ago... feel much better about vbac now... and she's recommended hypnobirth book, if only for the breathing... ordered that so hopefully it'll arrive before i really need it, and i'll have chance to read and digest!!

pondering perineal massage - anyone else done it? didn't bother last time, but then ended up with emcs so it didn't matter...

sorry for all of you with coughs, colds and other ailments, including MIL's!! sadly all our family are currently 12000 miles away - i'd do anything for an interfering MIL right now ('course, that'd only last 5 minutes!!)

right MERRY CHRISTMAS!! am off to make some salads and mince pies!!

oh, threeplusone have you tried doing some inhaling? might loosen and ease your chest a bit?

fiziwizzle · 24/12/2009 09:53

Really sorry to hear you've been so unwell threeplusone. Very difficult to rest at this time of year, let alone with children. I hope that you'll put your feet up when your DH is off work and let him take the strain.

Merry Christmas everyone! Although I don't feel Christmassy today, I feel tense and unhappy . Hormones! I'm going to put on some Christmas music and make some non-alcoholic mulled wine, and sure I'll be in the festive swing soon enough.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas, wherever they are

AbsB · 24/12/2009 20:41

Merry Christmas everyone! Thank God it's xmas, and a few days off - what bliss!

Pjbabe that is hilarious about the DH in the birthing pool, my DP and I laughed a lot at that!!!

threeplusone awful to feel so rough at this time of year, I've been there but can't imagine being pregnant and having a cough. Hope you get better soon.

My brother's girlfriend's SIL had her baby at 26 weeks a couple of weeks ago - what a shock! Poor things... they are now living at the neonatal unit in hospital... poor little baby is in some sort of sac, breathing on its own, and looks like it's going to be okay, but wow!

On a cheerier note, I've discovered a great non-alcoholic festive drink which I've named the GINGERATA - Big glass, ice, fresh lime squeezed, dry ginger, sparkling water and fresh mint - a bit like a mojito - I love it! On my second... that and COBRA FREE which is yum!

Happy Christmas ladies - ho! ho! ho!

Nikki87 · 24/12/2009 20:42

just to update you all, saw the physio yesterday, who told me apperently i don't have SPD, just very weak core muscles, so she's given me loadsa pilates moves to do, which i can't actually do without my hips popping . ahh well, will do my best and see how I go till i see her next at the start of next year.
wowwa you've got my worried now tho, I've got my antenatal classes over 1 weekend at the start of Jan, hope babi stays where is is till then! lol.

well i'm off to finish preparing for tomorrow, hope everyone has a great day without too much issues

bethylou · 24/12/2009 22:09

Just wanted to wish you all a very merry, if non-alcoholic, Christmas. Have endured many jokes about big birds today and Christmas Day hasn't even arrived yet! Let's hope that tomorrow is better... Have fun.

T4tastic · 25/12/2009 23:13

Happy Christmas everyone. Here's to 2010... a life-changing year ahead!! T4 x

FluffyCoo · 26/12/2009 12:42

Merry Christmas everyone - hope a lovely day was had by all! I got to put my feet up and have family running around after me all day - heaven!! Probably need to stop stuffing my face for a bit now though...

Hugs and 's xxx

sunangel88 · 26/12/2009 13:38

Just had a nice quiet relaxing Xmas day - just DH and me, now am feeling like I need to get out and about. Don't know how I'm going to handle being on mat leave without going stir crazy at home.... Luckily going to delay mat leave till 39 weeks. Hopefully bump will hang in there till then!

Anyone else wishing you could go skiing or escape somewhere warm for the winter? Cairo maybe or Thailand? I miss alcohol, soft cheese, being able to walk for more than 40 mins.... good coffee.... Sorry just needed a little rant. 35 weeks now, and 4 more weeks to go... just need to hang in there a bit longer I guess!

Hope you've all had a good Christmas and looking forward to a great New Year with our new arrivals!

woowa · 27/12/2009 08:10

Happy Christmas (belatedly) and Happy New Year (Prematurely). Hope we all make it through the rest of the festivities.

Off to pack for 5 days with my family now. 6 hours drive later (hopefully not more!), then a WHOLE WEEK of being looked after and cooked for. I might stay there forever! DH wouldn't be keen though. I'm excited, he's wondering how easy it'll be to get away from them!!!

See you next week xx

stoofadoof · 27/12/2009 09:21

hi all... just doing a bit of research on my (currently) posterior presenting baby... (I'm determined to do as much as i can to make my vbac successful!) Anyway.. i've come across a website that a lot of other MNers seem to recommend, so thought i'd share it in case it might be useful to anyone else! www.spinningbabies.com It's got a load of stuff about different presentations and what you can do to try and get them into optimal position etc....

hope everyone's enjoying the festivities!

chinook · 27/12/2009 20:57

Merry christmas to everyone. Hope you all had a lovely relaxing time. Thankfully my sister hosted all our family this year so it was fairly restful for me. The journey from Surrey to rural Wales was a bit hair raising to say the least though with all the snow and ice.

3plus1 you have my full sympathy as I have had the same cough/cold for weeks. In fact I had a similar one when I was 16 weeks and never got rid of the cough. Now I have a fresh dose my GP has finally relented and prescribed steroids and antibiotics. He did say the antib's probably won't work and only to take them if I get worse, but I have been naughty and started them today. I am fed up feeling ill all the time, have lost 4 lbs in 2 weeks and am worried about coping with labour feeling this rough. Maybe you could hassle your GP again?

Better go as my baby is really objecting to me leaning forward to type this.

AngelaCarleen · 28/12/2009 10:30

Hi everyone, I hope you all had lovely christmas's. We spent it with just my sister and her huband, it was sooo relaxing .

I can't believe that in three days we'll be able to say that we'll have babies next month! It doesn't feel that long ago that I was sat wth two positive tests crying my eyes out and snotting everywhere (happy tears).

Spent most of yesterday evening at a party with my husbands cousin telling me not to worry about child birth, I would reply 'I'm not' and she would start again, went on for about an hour! At least she wasn't trying to frighten me like everyone else is though.

Anyone else wondering how their tummy is going to stretch enough to accomodate a fully cooked baby? I'm sure mine is absolutely at it's maximum now

comeonbishbosh · 28/12/2009 19:03

Happy post-Christmas everyone!

Managed to avoid too many baby-orientated gifts but perversely intend to spend some christmas cheques on baby stuff in the sales. Just got back from a few hours in which we got the unglamorous purchases of a super-dooper clothes drying rack, a baby bucket bath thing and a microwave. We did counterbalance with a few mushy moments browsing curtains with nursery-esque cheery animals on... maybe we will succumb.

Now back to the sofa for some more telly-tastic relaxing. So lovely not to have to go to work for another week. And then we're really on the countdown.

mawbroon · 28/12/2009 20:03

Hi everyone. We had a lovely christmas at home with my sister and her DP.

I am starting to get tired now, and doing all the shopping/prep etc for christmas dinner, then actually cooking and serving it up wiped me out - and that was with help!!

Baby is breech at the moment. Normally I would say to people oh don't worry, plenty time to turn, but it seems to be the way that my heart shaped uterus accomodates my babies!! No stretch marks here, and there is still some loose flab that can be grabbed, so i reckon ds stretched it all very well last time!!

DS is hardly nursing any more because he's a bit in the huff that there's only colostrum, but he still needs the physical contact I think. He is following me around asking for cuddles all the time, and climbing on me if I sit down, pulling on my arm when I am cooking etc etc. We co sleep from when he wakes in the night, until the morning, and he seems to feel the need to lie almost on top of me. It's getting a bit irritating tbh, but pushing him away will make him worse I think. I also think he's going to be a midwife!! He loves to poke my bump and see if he can feel which part is which and loves it when his wee brother kicks him!

Happy (belated) Christmas all,

Just endured 6 days with the in-laws, snowed in outside Edinburgh. They are very kind but having to navigate their kitchen for my DD's meals and scavenge for food in the freezing pantry, then listen to endless guitar practise, top volume tv and jokes about giving birth at the house because of the snow etc did send me a little doolally. Oh and only white bread in teh house=terrible constipation, yuk! Sooo glad to be home, thank god it didn't snow again.

Also getting astonished looks that I am still at work from family too, get over it! Not long to go though, two more weeks.

Getting loads of braxton hicks, mainly at night, particularly after flying to Scotland, which wasn't pleasant. Anyone else? Didn't really get them last time, feels quite strange.
