Hi everyone Can't believe we could have our first baby in 4ish weeks

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LizLemon · 23/07/2009 09:51

Thusnelda I agree that sounds ridiculous. Surely it should depend on your individual circumstances. Have they laid out any reasons for this bizarre cut off point? It doesn't happen at Kings - I'm the same age as you - but if it did I'd be fairly furious and anxious. Is there someone you can call and ask about it?

blue76 · 23/07/2009 11:10

Hey ladies...off camping for a week. Catch up when we get back. Take care everyone!

mummyhill · 23/07/2009 13:45

Have fun Blue.

Neddie · 23/07/2009 16:51

Hi all
had my 32 weeks scan yesterday and all going well except fluid a little low. I didn't have my anti-d in the end as I had a blood test last week which showed absolutely no anti-bodies at all and when I pointed that out they agreed it was unnecessary . They then threatened me with a steroid injection (to develop their lungs in case of prem. labour) but decided I should be scanned again next week to monitor instead. I have to drive an hour to hospital 3 times next week- Monday consultant, Wednesday another scan and Thursday I have a 24 hour ECG thing so I will have to go back the next day to return the findings- I may just go to a Holiday Inn!!!
Swollen but fine!!
Hope everyone is doing OK.

Ladyem · 23/07/2009 17:03

Hey! Not posted for a while, but have had a quick skim! Hope you are all well and those of you who are now on mat leave getting to put your feet up!! I'm officially on mat leave from 7th Aug, but as I work from home, it's not too much trouble!!! Lol

Saw my MW this morning and she says that I'm measuring too small (I'm 34 weeks exactly and measuring 32). She said it should be within 1cm either way, but as I'm having a growth scan at 36 weeks, not to worry . Anyone else had this? I didn't think that 2 cm was such a worry, but now it's playing on my mind!

LizLemon · 23/07/2009 17:24

I thought the guidelines were 3cm either way Ladyem. I was 2cm over at my last appt.

Glad all's going well with the twins Neddie. Think the hospital should clear out a room for you

Feeling a bit guilty, god knows why, but have decided to spend some of my maternity pay on a weekly cleaner. My reasoning is that a) both our families live 400 miles away so we'll not get any day to day little help from grandparents and b) things below waist height are starting to look like they're not worth bothering about.

Snowfalls108 · 23/07/2009 18:07

Hello all.
Congratulations to Ladylush. Hope all feeling under the weather are ok.

I had a scan with a consultant today, so much more useful than a scan with a sonographer. We were given some photos of the baby's face - amazing.
So I'm 32+4, and the baby is already 5lb 10 and it's engaged. Head is over the 95 centile. The consultant said that it is going to be a big baby and if I were to get to 40 weeks he would suggest a cs. I'm not that keen on having a cs, but on the other hand I'm not that keen on pushing out a baby with a huge head. Can you be induced before your due date?

I went for my m/w appt this morning. Our local policy is to offer induction at 42 weeks, but also offering a sweep at 41 weeks. Otherwise, they will induce for medical reasons on a case by case basis, rather than age. Sounds like the NICE guidelines.

Most results and measurements are normal, but had to have another blood glucose test as the last one was a bit high. I had just had my brekkie that time, so I'm hoping this one turns out to be normal. After hearing some of your glucose tolerant test experiences, I would rather avoid...

However, with your stories of jabs, extra monitoring, crutches, difficulty sleeping, I should count myself very lucky with this whole pregnancy lark.

Snowfalls108 · 23/07/2009 21:40

Hi Bexaa,
Thanks - I'll ask at my next appointment.

peachygirl · 23/07/2009 21:40

Ladyem I'm measuring small for my dates too. I'm approx 2 weeks under what I should beand have been for the last two appointments.
The midwife said to me that there is a 3 cm leeway either way.

Ladyem · 24/07/2009 09:02

lizlemon and peachygirl that's what I thought! 1cm is a bit of a tight tolerance!! I could have just been a bit dehydrated as it was first thing in the morning and I'd only had one drink! I've been measuring small the whole way through, but have kept to the same line on the growth curve, so I don't think I should be too worried!

Cleendra · 24/07/2009 10:18

Hi ladies

This is my first post but it's been really encouraging and reassuring reading all your posts. My first baby is due on 20 September at University College Hosp in London. I live in NW8 - anyone else in NW8/NW6/W9 area? Fancy a meet up and a natter?

bigbang · 24/07/2009 11:34

Hey all,

LizL- get a cleaner if you want it! More time to spend with your baby- its for their benefit really, nothing to feel guilty about! I would if our flat wasn't so small, takes no time at all to clean so couldn't justify it! Ds loves to clean anyway I couldn't take that pleasure away from him

I had a mw appt on weds, bit disappointing really. There are only two midwives that I like out of the 6, I really hope I get one of them for the birth. I really liked all of them I saw when pg with ds, its a shame. I was measuring spot on 32, but was often a couple of cms out with ds and nobody said anything about it! The baby's heartbeat was really fast and they were a bit worried but it calmed down and was apparently just a normal fluctuation after all. Phew.

Good luck with the move tomorrow bratnav!

Cleedra- welcome I am in South London so a wee bit far I'm afraid. I was thinking we could have a central London meet though, then people from all over London could come without too much traveling? I can get anywhere with a tube fairly easily, would anyone be interested in doing that?

blinder · 24/07/2009 12:27

Well I had my 32 week appointment last week but wasn't measured as far as I know. Quick blood pressure, pee-test and out. Not due to go back until 36 weeks. And not booked to have any scans so I have no idea whether I am bigger or smaller than I should be . The care in my MLU seems to be a bit lacksadaisical. Is everybody being allowed to have a scan or does it depend on other factors / which health authority you are under?

bexaa yes I'm booked for a home birth, but there never seem to be enough midwives on duty when I go there. I'm hoping they don't refuse at the last minute because of staffing. If I have the courage, I'm not going to ring them until labour is moving along nicely and I can hopefully get away with saying I can't come in.

Has anyone bought a birthing pool yet?

blinder · 24/07/2009 12:32

I'm really loving the idea of hiring a cleaner by the way LizL. I had one years ago for a while when I was single-mumming, working and studying. It's wonderful to look around at a spotless kitchen once a week, and to know that it will be the same next week too, even if you are exhausted. It means you can get on with the more important things in life that we often let slide, like eating and sleeping! Go for it!

Gonnabamumma · 24/07/2009 13:19

Blinder - I am totally in the dark too - Have posted before about crap midwives I have seen. I have never been measured and she couldn't even tell which way round the baby was at my 31 week appointment. I am literally in there about 2 mins, I had to write down the questions I wanted to ask last time, as you are whizzed in and out so quickly you don't have time to think.

Anyway whinge whinge whinge from me. Still off work with a chest infection. Am finally feeling better after 2 lots of antibiotics and a week and a day off work. Am signed off until Tuesday, was thinking about going back Monday anyway, but probably best to take the Drs advise I guess.

Went out for a hour with my Mum to the shops as am going crazy in the house, coughed in M&S and thought I was going to be put in an isolation unit - feel like wearing a sign - NO SWINE FLU HERE! People are pretty wound up about it!

audreyraines · 24/07/2009 14:38

are people talking about fundal measurements, or ultrasound measurements? i think at 28 weeks, my funal measurement was 26 (two weeks behind), but i think they build in a few cms margin of error. anyway, it doesn't surprise me as i was so sick in the beginning and not gaining weight, but in the past month i think i've been playing catch up.

i've got an ultrasound next week to check the position of the placenta. i don't know if they'll look at measurements as well or purely focus on the placenta. anyway, it really does mean we're on the home stretch. 6 and a bit weeks to go.

i'm down for a home birth as long as it all works out with DS sleeping or getting out of the way!

audreyraines · 24/07/2009 14:39

ps. i lurrve my cleaner. she only comes once a fortnight, but it is bliss not to be scrubbing the bathroom and kitchen too often!

LizLemon · 24/07/2009 15:40

I'm in south london too, but there are trains...I'm up for a central london thingy.

Glad there is unanimous yes on the get a cleaner idea. They're booked in for a deep clean on Tuesday, which probably means they'll clean things I never think of doing. Can't wait, if I'm honest, now I've gone ahead with it.

I'm booked for 'will decide on the day' when it comes to labour but am leaning towards home, at least for as long as possible, unless I decide I want to get in a pool, which i can't really have at home since we're not on the ground floor. Really feel for all of you with crappo mws - I have a community one, so she comes to my house, and we have enough time to go over everything, plus it's the same one every time.

Re scans and size - mw says she'll only send me for another scan if she's worried about size or presentation at this point.

peachygirl · 24/07/2009 19:11

I'd be up for a central london meeet. I did this before with a few ladies from the Feb 07 thread and it was really nice.

no, my belly hasn't even been measured once and my notes have no information in the 'fundal height' column! Plus - they still haven't put my blood test results or anomaly scan measurements in my folder. They told me my Hb reading over the phone but I forgot it straight away and I'm feeling a bit breathless so I'm worried I might be slightly anaemic. It would be nice to see the result in my file!

do I have especially rubbish midwives?

Ladyem · 25/07/2009 08:38

Morning Ladies! Lovely sunny day here in the midlands! Hope it is for all of you!

Sounds like we all get completely different care and advice! I had DD in Bristol and they were fab, and while they are not awful up here, I can see a real difference in the care! Up here I have to arrange my own hospital tour and I've even got to chase up my physio appointment myself!! In Bristol, they did everything for you and it was so nice and relaxing to be looked after!!

blinder Hopefully if they thought you were anaemic, they would have told you to come in for a prescription for iron tablets. If you are worried, I'd go and see them again. My bloods have been done twice (I booked them in myself at 17 weeks as they hadn't done them! And then they never sent the results to the midwife, so even though I'd spoken to the Drs and all was fine, she wanted me to have them done again, so I had them 3 weeks ago!) You think something routine like that would be simple, eh!

Anyway, sorry for long rambling post!!
