Congrats Minush, Zafirah is a lovely name with great meaning. And i'm sure that model will be obsolete by the time she is at school.
I'm glad it was a quick and painless labour. A bit horrified that you didn't have a curtain round your bed though.

Hello everyone,
Finding it hard to get on the computer, but think I have caught up.

Congratulations on all the new babies, and my sympathies to Nutty and Schulte for the crap treatment they received. You are both so brave!

Hang in there Frekkles, it will happen. As a friend once said to me, when you're PG you want the baby to come out, and once it's been born you sometimes wish you could tuck it back inside you again.

BB, you are incredible. Is Kara a really placid baby? How do you get so much done?

Good luck with the cildcare, Boff.

Alex has decided that he only wants to fall asleep on the boob. Even if he's not hungry, he demands a suck, bashing his head on me and rooting frantically, then crying after a lot of these antics. I am torn between thinking it allows me to sleep and is therefore not to be dismissed, and fearing that it's not a great habit. I suppose a dummy would maybe help, but I am not a big fan...
Any views?

My Mum has caught DS's evil cold now and is not up to getting her flight home tonight.

OddEyes · 27/04/2009 10:15

Morning all!

Pants! Pants! Pants!
So checked my phone at 5am this morning - still no messages from conker - was composing text while feeding Ellie when somehow i dropped phone into the top and tail bowl! Arhh! Tis not working at all!
Nutty could you maybe text conker in my place - sorry! Will hopefully be able to swop SIM into SiL phone tomorrow evening, hoping that is not damaged too, hoping her number (and all others) is stored on the SIM rather than phone.

So want to catch up but am poping in whenever I have 5 minutes to catch up and then one of the 2 decide they need me.

Ellie doing well, 11lbs and sleep training has apparently worked, although I say that aand fully expect it to change, but has freed me up a little more, so I am doing well too - enjoying the challenge of juggling baby, toddler and house.

Congrats to Minush and Zafirah - lovely name.

Got to run!

congratulations minush and welcome baby Zafirah! Yay for great birth - we need more of them. Fingers crossed for Lauren!

Oh poo oddeyes shame about the phone!

Auld, yeah he is pretty placid, he has his moments believe me but on the whole he is pretty good - I have about 7-8 hours a day free essentially and he is pretty good at night only wakes up once after his 1 o'clock feed. He too likes to fall asleep on the boob and does very similar antics to that but ONLY when he is tired! but will do it without if he has too (the lazy part of me just thinks it will save time if I do that !) He struggles with poo - goes regularly but think it really hurts him and he struggles to get it out at first (although it comes out in full once he has hoofed around for a while!!)
How is DH doing?

Nutty I haven't had any clots just bleeding and brown discharge that has all but finished now. From what others have said that sounds pretty normal though. I was the same with the poo - it hurt a lot and afterwards felt very odd!

I was using wet wipes (natural, organic ones that i don't actually think are any better than normal ones just twice the price - I am a sucker for marketing ploys!) but with the nappy rash have decided to go back to basics with everything and then once it is cleared up start introducing it all again bit by bit!
Why oh why can they not give you an appointment?

BabyBolat · 27/04/2009 10:44

Speaking of antics Karahan has just been punching my boob because I took him off it - there is no milk left so he was just sucking the nipple and in the 30 seconds it took me to swap sides I got physically abused!!!

That's good nutty but I do think they are stupid - yes I get the SPD linking to pregnancy and that dying down but your back problem was never going to be fixed just by popping out a baby (not that she just popped out! )

I would keep phoning the dr every 30 minutes until they agree to see you - I would demand to speak to a dr on the phone!

Schulte · 27/04/2009 11:12

Congratulations Minush! Oh I would hate giving birth in France, stirrups and all that! Well done for quick labour.

Auld, I used to feed DD1 to sleep quite a bit when she was cranky even up to a few months old, as long as they still manage to self settle as well during the night I can't see anything wrong with that. DH and I had a massive argument about dummies back then as he was totally against them and I felt I desperately needed one (for DD, not me ) but in the end we didn't use one and DD found her thumb, which made things much easier. Or I let her suck on my finger to settle her.

However, all of my NCT friends used dummies AND breastfed and their babies never seemed to get nipple confusion. So if you feel the need for one, I'd say go for it!

Midwives have just been to do the heel prick test and boy, did they mess it up. They had to prick twice and then squeeze poor Hazel's foot a LOT to get enough blood out and the poor baby was crying although she was on my boob at the same time. I felt so sorry for her, I wanted to hit the MW! Also she's already put on 100g - yay!

BabyBolat · 27/04/2009 11:15

Yay for 100g - boo for mw - you're not having much luck with them are you - are they the same ones that didn't realise she was breach?

BabyBolat · 27/04/2009 11:23

oooh I am getting very angry with daytime TV! just had an advert for diet dr - which for just £47.50 a week (plus P&P) you can have all your meals and snacks prepared for you and delivered to your door so you can stop worrying about diets and lose weight - £50 a week that's more than we spend on our weekly shop! such a con and it's just chicken and salad! Who falls for that maybe I should invest!

cyteen · 27/04/2009 11:33

Hello lovely ladies of the April contingent Don't ask why an Aug 08 mum has been reading your antenatal threads, but I have just realised that I know minush!

minush take a look at my profile, tis me!

Great to read your birth story to you (and to all you other ladies, popped and popping) a hearty congratulations

SpringySponge · 27/04/2009 11:33

Are you people kidding me with your 'the newborn nappies are too big'? George is already in size 2 nappies & can actually fit well in size 3 without leaks. What on earth is going on with my little fatty? Where's WFH? I want to know what Orbit's in, seeing as he was so heavy at birth!

& all this almost sleeping through the night already... George was screaming for no reason between midnight & 4am last night. Non-stop. He wasn't hungry or in a dirty nappy. It didn't matter if / how I was cuddling him, or where I put him - he just wouldn't shut up. & then he fed until about 6, when he did settle down a bit at 4. Argh.

We've been using wet wipes too. So much easier & no problems so far.

BB, I'm totally with you on the gush - we're a fantastic group of women & because of how long we've been here, a lot has happened. So many of us have received tons of support - & just the fact that there is always company & understanding here (& laughter!) has been fantastic over the last few months. You're all wonderful xxx

Congratulations Minush! Sounds like a very positive experience at no curtain, though!

Auld, George is like that WRT only falling asleep on the boob. At the moment I'm just allowing it & trying to transfer him elsewhere when he's asleep, hoping that he'll grow out of it. Sometimes I can manage to move him, other times he just wakes up & needs putting back on the boob to get him back to sleep again. If you find a miracle solution, I'm very interested!

Nutty, as if you're still struggling to get the attention that you need - how ridiculous. I hope you're okay xx Oh, I'm pleased that you're getting an MRI - that's something, at least

Schulte · 27/04/2009 11:59

Springy sorry to hear about difficult nights. I have no idea but maybe as Nutty suggests try Infacol? Is he awake enough during the day - have you tried taking him out for a walk around the same time every morning and/or afternoon to help him distinguish between day and night? At night, do you keep everything dark and interact with him as little as possible, with lots of noise and stimulation during the day? It might be that he still confuses day and night? Good luck, it's hard being so tired xxx

BB no, was a different MW, I see a different one EVERY time, there seems to be an unlimited supply of them in this area, don't know what all that talk of MW shortages is about

DH and DD have gone out to buy some roast chicken from Waitrose - yum yum!

SpringySponge · 27/04/2009 11:59

No, it wasn't wind. He had bad wind for the first week & we did use Infacol. But he's learnt how to burp now & even if he struggles we can pat him on the back & it isn't too difficult. He very easily goes blue around the mouth with his wind, so it's visibly obvious when he's suffering with it. He's just grumpy. & DH is out at uni, posting crap on Facebook about various console games they're playing between lectures. After I was up with George all night & am still dealing with him now - the kid won't sleep! It's hard not to get really angry with DH, even though it's not his fault.

How are things there? Was DD1 okay about going to school & leaving her little sister?

SpringySponge · 27/04/2009 12:04

Schulte, he just simply doesn't sleep for any length of time ever. During the day we're up & about, with music or tv on. If I put him down during the day, he sits in his vibrating chair. At night we turn the lights off & try to ignore him unless he starts properly crying. When I'm not having to hold him at night, he goes in his moses basket. So it shouldn't be that. I think he just likes torturing me.

& ohh, I want roast chicken!

Bleuravin · 27/04/2009 12:04

morning everyone; I feel nearly human today considering the lack of sleep I've been getting...maybe because the sun is shining.

Meg and I are struggling through some very uncomfortable bouts during the day... Meg wakes up from even the deepest sleep anywhere from an hour or two after a feed and acts like she wants food, but really just wants the comfort I think and then she fusses and strains and has a bowel movement or burps or spits up (all of this no matter that I burped her after a feed). after an hour or two she settles... but often time it's time for a feed again so it starts all over, thus mommy gets little sleep. It reminded me of what Springy was talking about with her night...

SpringySponge · 27/04/2009 12:10

Bleu, that sounds very familiar. The only thing is that I'm not finding the feeding itself to be uncomfortable (although the fussing can cause some unpleasant friction), so you have extra sympathy from me for having to struggle through that as well. As you can see, I have no suggestions - it has to pass though. I just hope it's soon!

Bleuravin · 27/04/2009 12:13

exactly... I don't know what to do as Meg's miserable and fussy and cries so much tears come... makes mommy feel useless and I've tried cuddles and swaddling, and burping, and so many different positions... hopefully it goes away by the magic week 6 or 8 that I keep hearing about!

springy - DS was like that. we had bought about 5 packs of first size newborn nappies before he was born and used about a pack and a half. before he was in the next size. annoyingly he had outgrew the nice pampers that soak in the poo really quickly and the not-newborn diapers just leak it all out. nice.

just popped in to see how everyone is. DH and DS have gone out for supplies and Isla is asleep.

congrats to minush and carmeli and surprise (and anyone else I've missed!)

i'm just finishing my birth story so i'll post it in a sec.
