Oh Springy, I could have written that last post. Definitely get a sling as soon as possible. You can shop and discretely breastfeed at the same time if you get the right one.

PuzzleRocks · 23/04/2009 13:36

oops, cross posts

brettgirl2 · 23/04/2009 13:39

I just spent ages typing out a message and it got deleted

Labour dance?.. labour dance??.. labour dance??.

Juwes ? It might help if DH settles and puts him down instead of you? Hannah had an attachment strop while I was still in hospital and one of the MWs took her away from me completely for a couple of hours. I think lots of people do co-sleep I understand what you mean though, it would really stress me out too.

Congratulations to trista

Nutty ? I can?t believe you are still waiting, the bloody NHS! Is there anyone we can complain to on your behalf???

Springy ? You are coping brilliantly, I don?t know what I?m going to do when my DH goes back to work.

Me post time??
OK ? there was bound to be one! BFing isn?t really working for me, Hannah isn?t putting weight on and it?s messing with my head and upsetting me too much to just say ?give it more time?. Therefore, I?m currently still BFing but topping up with formula really colossally. I know the theory so don?t really want advice that this is a bad thing to do ? I just can?t handle that my baby isn?t getting enough to eat. I am going to continue to BF first at each feed though because I am producing some milk and I?m not ready to give it up completely, but I probably will before too long. She?s also become a lot more settled, presumably because she isn?t hungry all the time!

TMI alert ? DH and I were going to go and sit in the garden of a country pub to eat a sandwich for lunch. As I was getting ready I felt something ?down there? rushed to the toilet and a massive clot fell out . I decided to not leave the house in case of a repeat (I?m not bleeding massively btw). WTF???? Has this happened to anyone else? I had just put on a non maternity skirt so maybe put some pressure on tummy? (The skirt was far too big to wear pre-pg before anyone gets too excited ? I went through a phase of being fatter a few years ago and most of these clothes don?t even fit yet!)

Boffin ? it?s interesting what you experienced in the 80?s. My mum had internals in 1977 for now apparent reason at every antenatal appointment . I have asked her why she let them do it and why she didn?t ask what they were for! . In 1980 with my brother she was induced at 39 weeks because the consultant she was under was going on holiday!!!!!!!

surprisenumber3 · 23/04/2009 13:41

:P) puzzle. I had a go at doing it cos everyone else here at the moment has babies to munch Mine are at school and don't like being munched anyway!

SpringySponge · 23/04/2009 13:48

BB, considering how desperate we were to get these babies out, it's funny how we occasionally get caught by these moments of 'what the hell was I thinking?'

I love him to bits, I really do. & even if I could go back to July & not have sex all month, I wouldn't - I'm so pleased to have him here. But ARGH!
& I didn't even think about things like what to wear at this point before - I have nothing that isn't too big, & nothing that wouldn't require me taking my top off entirely to BF, which obviously isn't so discreet. Where's purple with her Hooter Hiders?

& BB, how annoying about the passport! Fingers crossed it's okay...

surprise, I just did that - he grizzled throughout, but not full on screaming. Only because he loves the shower, though (he goes all spaced out if we use it to rinse his hair) - it started building up again as soon as I turned it off & I had to scoop him up before I'd even sorted my towel out to prevent a total meltdown . If only we didn't have a water meter...

& the most annoying thing? By the time DH gets home he'll have worn himself out with these tantrums & be all quiet & sleepy again, making me look like a complete loon who can't manage a serene newborn...

BabyBolat · 23/04/2009 13:49

brettgirl sounds like you are doing the right thing to me - no point forcing it if it isn't working for you!

brettgirl2 · 23/04/2009 13:51

"Where's purple with her Hooter Hiders"

Hahaha.

Can you use bump bands to allow you to BF with normal T-shirts on?

SpringySponge · 23/04/2009 14:00

I'm so relieved to hear that it's not just me feeling like this. April ladies are sanity savers both ante- & postnatally.

brett, only you can make the right decision for you & Hannah. So long as it's well-informed, that's all anyone can ask.

& yes, I've had the clot, too. & MM said that she had. Her MW said it was a bit of trapped membrane.

Juwesm · 23/04/2009 14:00

Congratulations Trista and welcome to baby Lewin!

Springy (((((hugs)))))
I haven't even attempted to go out yet, and I still have DH at home for 2 weeks, to help with everything! Have no idea what to wear to go out. Am living in PJs without so much as a bra!

Will have to work something out for tomorrow, as it's his osteopath appointment.

I've got a sling, but haven't got round to experimenting with it yet. Hopefully I'll get used to wearing it and him before DH returns to work.

SpringySponge · 23/04/2009 14:05

Hmm, the bump band idea may be a good stop gap, thanks.

I'm currently expressing a bottle to chuck at DH when he comes home. I just hope George doesn't get hungry in the next few minutes - he'll be gutted if he finds that the cupboards are bare (I know that your boobs are never empty, but he's not the most patient child...)

Juwesm · 23/04/2009 14:06

Brett - sorry the BFing isn't going well for you. It is very stressful, almost trying to force bm down them if they don't want it/ can't get the hang of it. Very poor design form that boobs don't come with volume graduations on them so that you can see how much they're getting! I have a friend who got soooo stressed out with BFing - her dd clearly wasn't thriving, was unhappy and effectively starving hungry, but her HV kept pushing her to persist. In the end, another friend went round there, made up a bottle of ff and gave it to her, and they've never looked back! Formula itself is not the work of the devil, just the formula companies (who are probably as bad as drug companies). Whatever works for you and Hannah is the right choice.

Juwesm · 23/04/2009 14:09

Also, re: clots - no experience of similar myself, but had an NCT handout which described possibly passing clots as large as a satsuma (! ) in the early stages. I think. I'll try and find a link to the handout. The tutor also suggested bagging them up in a clear plastic bag, so that MW could have a good look and a feel to make sure it's not retained placenta! [bleurgh emoticon].

Juwesm · 23/04/2009 14:13

NCT handout re: blood loss after birth

brettgirl2 · 23/04/2009 14:22

I think what I need to know is - Has anyone had two clots. I really don't want the next one to slide down my leg in the supermarket I will quiz MW tomorrow

Thanks Juwes/Springy/BB - that sounds where I could have easily been heading I think. The problem is that you desperately want to do the right thing for your LO and it's so easy to start feeling like a failure. I had a real meltdown yesterday afternoon after MW had been.

kazkiss · 23/04/2009 14:25

Hiya everyone.

Sorry i have not been on here much (as you can imagine hands pretty full!)

Babies doing well will post more pics sooon. ollie now weighs 6lb2.5 and izzie weighs 7lb.

Ollie has been suffering with his digestion and we took him to emergency docs on sat who said he had reflux. started him on gaviscon and much better now!

Re: clots. I had this in hospital and the MW said it was normal but if it continues to let them know.

Glad BF is going better ju. and am pleased with hugo weight gain!

I didnt have any problems setttling either of them sleep but i think that was cos they were used to sleeping in different places in the nicu.

I do use a sling with ollie though cos he is a lot more clingy and he loves it! give it a go ju....

speak soon

kazkiss · 23/04/2009 14:27

oooh forgot to add been reading about everyones labouring and birthing! go mums!

will do personals when i get a spare moment!

brettgirl2 · 23/04/2009 14:27

Oh shite - I flushed my clot away (seemed the obvious thing as I passed it in the loo!). I think I will stay in for a few days then just in case.

It says that you should contact MW immediately

kazkiss · 23/04/2009 14:31

oooh and ju.... i use a thing called a snuggle nest for both the babies.. it is a sleep positioner but it is actually desgined for co-sleeping to protect the baby from you rolling on him. it goes between your pillows

see the link.. the babies like it because they feel secure then when he is used to sleeping on it you can actually put it in the moses basket/cot so it is familier. the twinkies both use them in one cot.

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/04/2009 14:35

Argh I am not having a good day at all. Been in tears for the last hour. DD is just being such a pain. Well actually, she is just being a normal 15 month old but I just can't cope today. Why is it, my DH has been off the last 4 days and I have felt fine, he went back today and I feel like absolute crap. DD has got used to doing so much in the day, she just gets bored and fed up if we just stay in. Saying that, I did try taking her out in the garden to play in her new sandpit but she sat i it for 5 min max and then got out and walked inside. She doesn't want to watch TV, won't have a nap, is too tired/irritable to play with anything for more than about a min! ARGH! She is teething too which is now helping. She is cutting a back tooth AND a front one so can't blame her. I am going to put her in the buggy and go for a walk in a min but don't know how far I will manage to get. And TBH I think she will end up falling asleep, which would be bliss right now but I will regret it when it comes to bedtime.

Did anybody know that you shouldn't really have lucozade when pregnant? Or any glucose tablets etc? I bought lots for labour but the lady who did my reflexology the other day said that it produces insulin through the placenta and the baby can't digestest it. I have been drinking it every day for the last few weeks! It was really keeping me going!

My house is such a mess. I know I need to just do it and I will feel so much better, but everytime I get one room sorted, another gets into a state and I go round in circles!!!

kazkiss · 23/04/2009 14:39

soon to be: ooops i drank loads of lucozade as that is one of the things i craved. (that being said i did end up with gestational diabetes) (although endocrinologist did try and reasure me that that was not the cause and that my family history and pcos was a more likely culprit!)

brettgirl2 · 23/04/2009 14:43

I also drank loads of it during first trimester sickness phase. I think that I might have actually died without it though - surely that would have been even worse for the baby?
