Hello all. Didn't go and get baby checked in the end as I went to my reflexology appointment and that got baby moving.

I was fascinated by the reflexology. The lady I went to specializes in maternity and is trained in many different maternity related fields. Works with the MWs at the hospital and on the antinatal ward. Did you know that just by doing things on your feet they can tell what your cervix is like, baby's heartbeat, baby's position etc? I have no idea how but it was very interesting! And felt lovely too so glad I went. I might have another go next week if I am still pregnant. I found out through the reflexology that my cervix is very high (makes sense as I couldn't find it when I tried), not ripe at all and isn't ready for labour yet. Also that baby is possibly back to back, which is a bummer as so was DD when she was born and it did apparently make labour a lot more painful. Also she said baby isn't fully engaged, about half way there.

Something you may find really interesting though - the day you go into labour, you get a hard bit/small lump on your big toe! It is the tip of the toe or the top part of the side with no nail. She said sometimes it is very small, others it is the size of a small pea under the skin! Would be really interested to test this theory out! Or if anybody in labour would like to tell me if it is true? I have my 40 week appointment tomorrow so will have all the rest confirmed by the MW, but TBH she really seemed to know what she was talking about and everything she said made sense. She knew from my feet that my shoulders had been aching for example and my MW said last week that baby was about 2/5 engaged so that makes sense.

surprisenumber3 · 21/04/2009 20:44

wow soon2be - off to inspect my big toe...if I can still reach it!!

surprisenumber3 · 21/04/2009 20:45

Juw - what an amazing birth story. Hope you're both healing well now xx Oh and the pics are gorgeous x

kazkiss · 21/04/2009 21:04

wow ju that is one heck of a birth story! Hope you are feeling better now?
Pictures are adorable!!! He really does look like you and ed. (eyes you and mouth ed methinks!)

some of the things you said in birth story seemed really familiar such as being so much pain but feeling withit inside but not being able to convey it on the outside.

I am sure he will be better weight wise tomorrow try not to worry too much.

Let me know when you are feeling better and we will arrange to meet up and compare life as mums!

when does ed go back to work?

Take it easy hun!

kazzie

Ju - Your pics are gorgeous.

Nutty - I hope you manage to get some rest. Hooray for DH staying with you.

tristaleejac · 21/04/2009 22:21

Juw what beautiful pics, love the black and white one, he's so thoughtful looking!

Nutty, that's shite you have to wait, hopefully later tonight though!

I've STILL not had my baby

soon2befamilyof4 · 21/04/2009 23:14

Nutty - sorry you have to wait . Lucky you have your own room though!! Did you have to pay for that? Can I ask how you are managing to get online? Is it on a phone I guess? I really want to be able to be online when I go in, especially if I have to stay. I am internet addicted though

Tristalee - I hope your baby comes soon! I will keep my phone on! (if it wakes me up I will be back to sleep again in like 5 seconds so don't worry if it is 3am! Lol).

1 hour till my due date!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 21/04/2009 23:31

If anyone feels they have it bad with the NHS, just be glad you're not in USA with a private doctor in a private hospital! Yes, might sound like it should be just perfect, but I think it's far more high-pressure than any of us get here! My younger sister who lives in USA is expecting her first baby (her due date is today) and her husband has insurance, so she's having her baby in what is thought of as a good quality hospital with her choice of doctor etc. Well, when she went for her 38w check the nurses/doc were all acting like "oh, you've not had your baby yet? you should have had it by now!" and when she went for her 39w check...without asking her, the doctor began to strip her membranes (guessing that's the same as a sweep?) but at only 39 weeks! And worse still, she was informed that if she'd not had her baby by 40w 2d, she'd be induced! So, sure enough, today she gets a phone call from her doctor who says "come to the hospital at 2pm tomorrow to be induced!" And this is only 1 day after her due date! I thought it was bad enough for the midwives here to imply that you should be induced 12 days past due date...but what they're telling my sister over there is just unreal! I mean, this is her first baby - first babies can often be late, or slow labours. Thankfully my sister said she's ignoring their request...but we shall see what happens!

Anyway, bit of a pointless post - but just so you can all feel better who feel under pressure about being post dates!

tristaleejac · 21/04/2009 23:33

ha ha thanks soon2be, looks like it'll be thursday for induction though, this baby seems far too comfy.
Woohoo half an hour til your due date!

BoffinMum · 21/04/2009 23:33

Just logged on to see how Nutty was doing and if there was any news. Alas no. You should have put your bum in the air and cried like MathsMummy!! But at least you are not suffering too badly, Nutty. I too will donate my last Lindt chocolate Easter bunny as an offering to the labour gods, alongside the Pringles.

You do realise you may have a brilliant second stage because of the loose ligaments in the pelvis???

Having read posts of people still pg, I am so relieved Felix is out, and I don't have to go through that last few weeks of pg thing EVER AGAIN, although I did in a fit of total madness say today to DH that if he won the lottery, or got a job paying a quarter of a million squids, and could buy in masses of help and therapy, I might just consider having a fifth because Felix is a cutie pie.

However this is dangerous talk indeed, and I think I should now dwell on the feeling of second stage, and the associated discomfort to my bits this week, in order to put myself off the idea very fast.

In relation to my bits, the mw has brought round some hand made bags of herbs that smell vile, but are for soaking with in the bath, and the first one proved to be very soothing. Things may be looking up on that front.

tristaleejac · 21/04/2009 23:36

rachel that's crazy
what an amount of pressure to be under. Glad she's refusing, hope she manages to stay strong and stick to her guns.

BabyBolat · 22/04/2009 01:34

oh juw he is adorable!!! considering everything he went through he looks like a very contented little boy and you sound suitably loved up with him!

i know it's easier said than done but try not to worry about the weight thing too much am sure it will be fine today but he's new to all this will take a while to balance out! fingers crossed for you lovely!

i want more babies please ... schultes, kitty and nutty, ahem.....

nutts hospital sounds fab even though you are having to wait a bit! kara has been asleep most of today so i expect a restless night if you need online / text company!!!

soon2be yay for movement and reflexology sounds very interesting!

bronze - im on passport duty tomorrow! is it fairly straightforward?

trista yay for thurs!!

boff glad things are getting better - i think their might be a 5th you know and maybe a third for nuttts in a few years! so pleased things are getting better spd wise - all that walking is amazing so soon after spd-crippling pregnancy!!

rachel i know ow fed up we all are around de date but that feels a little extreme!! good on your sister for ignoring it!

night all and good luck to you birthing beauties!!!

BabyBolat · 22/04/2009 06:00

GABRIELLA AUDREY BIANCA aka kitty's little kitten arrived yesterday x she is a good sleeper and is feeding well despite a long and dramatic entrance into the world x

WELL DONE kitty x can't wait for pics and story x big hugs to you all x rest lots x

purplemonkeydishwasher · 22/04/2009 06:49

YAY for Kitty! gorgeous name!

Juw - your birth story gave me goosebumps. truly epic. but you did it! and now you have your gorgeous boy (i LOVE that pic with him leaning on his hand!)

things here are ok. feet still puffy. still getting random pains. so nothing happening really. DH keeps saying I should get his mom to take DS for the day but really what would be the point? i can't go out, i can't DO anything in the house, so I might as well have him here. things are going to chagne a lot soon and i want to enjoy him on my own for a bit. He even suggested DS miss gymnastics tomorrow and go with MIL. WHY??? He LOVES gymnastics. Men are idiots.

anyway, DS was up before 6 this morning. didn't want DH to go to work. so we've already had tears. he's ok now. watching Nick jr. i've made him some scones for breakfast so he'll be happy about that. (MIL can't make scones...)

Nutty - hope things are going well for you. You will definitely have your baby TODAY!!!

Boffin - i'm really hoping that you're right about the easy 2nd stage because of the whole pelvis thing. my mom kept freaking out about the pain and saying that she was worried that my pelvis would just break during labour. i still don't think she quite gets the whole SPD thing.

oh and she reminded me yesterday that she will be away over the weekend. i really hope i have this baby on the Friday so she can't see any pics or ANYTHING until Sunday night serves her right going away when i'm due!

LaurenIsMoreThanReadyToPop61 · 22/04/2009 07:51

Aww yay congratulations to Kitty! Details soon can't wait!!

Nutty possibly popped now? Hope it's all going well!

Just been reading through thinking how well you lot that have had your babies are doing, when you talk about them it just sounds like they've been here forever! Its lovely and i can only hope it all comes to me so naturally...

I had loads to say as i read through and can't remember it all now!! Got MW at 5 today so hopefully sweep will get something going, i do think something is happening just slowly, get more and more pressure down there and different pains and twinges everyday, fingers crossed

Hope everyone okay and got weather like it is here! Sunshiiiine

LaurenIsMoreThanReadyToPop61 · 22/04/2009 07:54

Juw just saw your pictures, Hes a little stunner!

The black and white one is gorgeous! x

purplemonkeydishwasher · 22/04/2009 08:04

morning Lauren! how are you feeling today?

LaurenIsMoreThanReadyToPop61 · 22/04/2009 08:33

im goood just cant believe im still pregnant!!!! how are you? x

surprisenumber3 · 22/04/2009 08:38

Morning everyone.

Congrats Kitty, can't wait to see pics

Well I am 41 weeks today (by nuchal scan) and feel really poorly. BP is up, I feel so tired, my lovely neighbour has taken DS's to school today but I still to go into the classroom this afternoon with DS2, then go back to pick DS1 up from afterschool activity, give them dinner and then take DS1 to cubs. DH not home til 8 pm. Might go and see a friend for coffee this afternoon but at the moment it is seeming SO daunting!

Got MW tomorrow and I think I'm going to cry until she offers induction. My belly is so huge, I have to hold it up while I walk! Had a good cry last night so feel a bit better today but just look, and feel, horrendous!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 22/04/2009 08:50

oh surprise

it's almost over. and if you are 41 weeks i'm sure they'll offer you an induction. try to rest today is you can. BP being up isn't good!

lauren - i'm ok. just feeling so fed up and i've still got 5 days until my due date!

believe it or not we will look back fondly on the pregnant time!

surprisenumber3 · 22/04/2009 08:55

Fondly? hmm....I really enjoyed it until about a month ago but the last weeks aren't the best are they, especially when you have other children to look after/get to school etc, I feel like I'm neglecting mine a bit at the moment but at desperately trying to keep things 'normal' for them.

surprisenumber3 · 22/04/2009 08:56

at am

purplemonkeydishwasher · 22/04/2009 09:03

i knwo what you mean. poor DS wants to go out so badly but i just can't.

i missed being pregnant after i had DS. i'll probably feel differently this time.
god, after this DH would NEVER agree to another! (...course we didn't actually decide on this one either...)
