I think we all owe you the most thanks - for keeping us cheery throughout everything - you are very special and you and boff have shown us both what real strength is!

UPDATE FROM KITTY:

No home birth for us I'm afraid... After 40 hours of labour at home and only getting 2cms dilated we transferred to hospital, had some pethidine to try get some sleep, with no luck. After another 8 hours of gas and air we've just had our epidural put in and feel much happier now... We've got to 5cm so have a way to go but we're both OK! Will keep you updated...Xxx

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 21/04/2009 08:30

Just wanted to pick up on your last post Springy - don't worry about feeling like you need a day off, it's completely natural, you're just coming down from the excitement and adrenaline and hormones of first having a baby, and the 'oh my god this is for the rest of my life' fear is setting in a bit.

I hope you feel better after some sleep, that's the most important thing for cheering up mummies with baby blues. Also remember - yes, this baby thing is forever, but they're not babies forever. Before you know it the night feeds and the holding and cuddling all day will be over and seem like it went past in a flash. So don't feel downhearted about feeling negative - have lots of sleep and chocolate and to quote the mummy mantra 'This Too Shall Pass'.

Big hugs ()()()()()()()()()

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 21/04/2009 08:31

And GO GO GO all birthing ladies - I'm really sorry but I've lost count of who's in birth action now, so I'm going to shake some MAHOOSIVE POM POMS for all of you

Haven't had time to catch up - GOOD LUCK NUTTY!

I have a quick question - I haven't really felt baby move in the last 24 hours and trying to work out if I should go in for assessment today. I spent the whole day woring on the garden so didn't find it odd that I didn't feel her in the day, its quite usual when I am busy. BUT when I go to bed, everynight since 37 weeks I have been massaging massage oil into my bump and back which usually makes baby wriggle like mad! She usually moves as soon as I rub my belly. But she didn't move once last night. I have been up since 4am with DD and still haven't felt her. I am going to massage bump in a min and have a lie down and see if she moves. But if she doesn't - do I need to go in today? I have an appointment tomorrow anyway which is why I was thinking about not going in? Otherwise I would have gone by now. It is my due date tomorrow which is why I have my 40 week check and possibly a sweep - I am not sure. I am meant to be going for a pregnancy massage/reflexology appointment today at 12.30 so need to decide soon so I know if I need to cancel that or not?

LaurenIsMoreThanReadyToPop61 · 21/04/2009 09:01

GO NUTTYYYYYY =D LOTS OF PICS PLEASESSS!! LOVEEEE AND HUGGGSSS X X X X

frekkles · 21/04/2009 09:04

goodluck everyone who is in labour or about to be!

personally I'm feeling a bit bored of all this pregnancy stuff now. I don't believe in contractions! urban myth!

soon2befamilyof4 · 21/04/2009 09:06

Oh and I also can't get off the loo .

LaurenIsMoreThanReadyToPop61 · 21/04/2009 09:12

umm soon2be, i would do you massaging again and hava a good prod and poke, my LO always reacts most the lower i prod him, dont worry though you probably just tired LO out with your gardening yesterday and didnt feel her during the day as you were so active, ring them if you dont get anything and go get assessed otherwise you'll just more worried. thats what i would do

BabyBolat · 21/04/2009 09:13

soon2be - am no expert but you don't sound like it feels normal for you and because of that I would probably go and get it checked out - sure it is absolutely fine but it might put your mind at rest!

Frekkles - it is boring! the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy were hell - I hated it!

LaurenIsMoreThanReadyToPop61 · 21/04/2009 09:13

frekkles i agree!!

soon2be - could be her positioning orrr could be saving her energy ready for coming out, my mum swears i didnt move for a week before i came out!! x

surprisenumber3 · 21/04/2009 09:18

soon2be - I also can't keep off the loo and my baby is V. quiet. She is still getting hiccups but not moving much at all.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 21/04/2009 09:31

soon2be - are you stuck on the loo? do we need to get some firemen round your way?

surprisenumber3 · 21/04/2009 09:39

lol purple

Gosh so many potential babies today! Schulte, Kitty, Nutty, Swali...any others??

An exciting day on the April thread!

brettgirl2 · 21/04/2009 10:09

Hi all - oh my god there is some birthing action going on, looks like the 21st could be a rather epic day for the August ladies. .

I can't believe I didn't make it on time to wish Nutty luck today - I tried to get on last night but Hannah is always manic in the evening and I had just been busy all day.

Soon2b, I would definitely get checked out if you are worried. I too cleared my bowels out before labour and during the first stages . But at least it makes you less likely to poo during the labour which has to be good. Far better in the privacy of your toilet, that's what I say!

Juwes, I was also given this topping up advice. I was actually told to top up after every feed which just means that it takes the baby at least 4 hours before she will BF again and therefore it really didn't work. I am trying to BF as much as I possibly can and then topping up at bed time/during night feed. I did manage to get her to feed in the night yesterday which was good. I think the problem is that the baby is exhausted after birth and so are you, therefore it is difficult to get them to take enough. I think as a general principle replacing feeds is to be completely avoided. I must admit I am a bit about this weight thing at 3/4 days. It takes 3 days for milk to come in, whereas if we FF they put on weight beautifully from the start and they'd tell us how well baby was doing. They then tell us that colostrum is what the baby needs, I mean say WHAT???? Hannah had put some back on yesterday though. Personally I am listening to all advice, smiling and combining it to find a solution that works for us. I'm currently too worried about it to not give any formula at all, but definitely am not giving her as much as I've been told!

Well ladies, this might give you a laugh. I had to go to the doctors yesterday for some erm rather painful symptoms around my rear end , seemingly a lovely side effect of my 'normal' delivery. I walked in and because I'd only just handed in the envelope into reception it said on my notes that I was pg. Therefore, she thought I was 9 1/2 months pregnant after my MIL had told me that my figure was coming back already! Obviously got a way to go then and MIL being ultra polite heehee! Doctor did say she thought I was rather tiny considering my advanced pg state!

tristaleejac · 21/04/2009 10:16

Hiya I'm still here

Nutty you have me in tears, you're such a lovely woman, I hope today is amazing for you xxx

Congratulations to Staryeyed, reallytired and Juw.

I'm so confused today, I actually don't know how I feel anymore.

Went to MW yesterday and had the most positive experience yet. BP was fine, urine was perfect. Great start. She asked how I'd been since having the sweep on friday evening and I said fine but loads of gunk, which must be show. She was fine with that and offered to try another sweep. Of course I accepted straight away!
Anyway she found I am 3-4cms dilated and my cervix is soft. She gave it a bishops score of 8 (I take it that's quite good?). I was only 1cm on friday and my cervix was 2-3cm long so that is pretty good. Anyway she had a good rummage around to try to get things moving. She told me go home and keep active, nipple stim, the works and I should be good to go.
She also cancelled hospital on Wed evening and said just phone labour ward on Thursday morning. (I was due to go in the evening before for a pessary to open my cervix enough for breaking my waters on thursday)
Anyway I got home, had loads of show with lovely pink streaks in it. Then contractions started just before tea time. I timed them from 6-9pm and they were coming regularly but not, IFKWIM. Like I'd have a gap of 7 mins then 4 then 6 then 3 then 5 then 7. Most painful yet during this pregnancy, but still bearable. Anyway the bloody things tailed off just after 9, and I gave up and went to bed. I noticed a few during the night and this morning I've had the odd 'usual' one. I think I've been in labour for about 2 months now

Does anyone think this is anything other than normal? I just cant believe yesterday I was 3-4cm dilated, had loads of contractions (surely they did something to my cervix??) but no proper labour yet.
I'm just stuck in a limbo here and dont know what to do.

surprisenumber3 · 21/04/2009 10:21

Hi Trista - I'm feeling the same. My BP is high now but no other untoward symptoms.

After my sweep last Thursday I had a lovely bloody show but it stopped the contractions I'd been having for the last 24 hours - which only left me dilated by 1 cm!

I am sick of being stuck in limbo land too, so tired and so uncomfortable and getting the DS's to school is hard work! 3-4 cm is good going though! I have my next MW appt on thurs and I might cry a bit or something to see if I can get booked in.
