Hello ladies
Sorry some of you have been having a rough time especially those who are feeling sick again. What a nightmare. I vaguely remember a thread on pregnancy about morning sickness returning in the last trimester but could be wrong. May be worth a search. I have to second the 'how different is it second time around' view. Last time I gave up work at 35 weeks (to coincide with my mums half term) but I was bored and felt it was too early. As a consequence while doing the rota for our toddler group (not the same as work I know..) I scheduled myself to open up until I am 38 weeks. . Thankfully I have found someone to take over as the last time I did it I was just plain worn out and felt really pathetic. I have to say I am feeling quite good at the moment though.....touch wood. I am spotting the signs (at last) of when I need a sit down and feet up and making sure that I do it. I have decided it is important for me and for this up till now neglected bump of mine. If it means dd has an extra half hour of TV than so be it. It is not long now. We had a good weekend with a couple of BBQ's and a good sort out of our bedroom hoovering under the bed and sorting wardrobes etc. I wanted to start washing the babies clothes but I can't find any sensitive fabric conditioner at the moment so I have to wait until Thurs when I am off to Orphanides the supermarket. I ordered some new small sandy's nappies and Motherease wraps too so can't wait for them to arrive.
Megi - I hope you reach a decision about work. It is a tough one.
Lynny - What a sad cow that woman was in the pub. Glad you rose above it.
I am definately the biggest I have ever been now and am loving havng a bump. I am sorry for those of you who are so uncomfortable but it is exciting for me that at last people can tell I am pregnant and I love the shock on their faces when I tell them I am due in 6 weeks!
I had the ring prediction thing done this weekend and it confirmed my suspicions that this bump is a boy. I am really excited about it now too despite my initial worries about having a boy. Time will tell though and of course it may be another girl. Still no agreement on names...

LipstickMum · 03/05/2005 12:27

Hello everyone

You all sounded like you had great weekends, so did we, hence no Mn-ing!

Except Megi of course! Poor you falling down the stairs I bet that was a shock. I've tripped up the stairs a couple of times and it's totally freaked me out. Afraid I don't know anything about maternity pay, but I see you have good advice from Tea, so I hope it works out. It's funny how we all think we'll be so bored when we stop work... I thought the same last time round. But basically, there wasn't a moment I wasn't standing on a chair with my marigolds on, or with paintbrush in hand, or scrubbing on hands and knees etc etc etc. For those of you who don't have children yet, take the time off !!!

Welcome back Pink You stopped posting after such a 'down' post, we were all worried, but very glad you're ok.

Lua, Dulux can match to any shade, they do it at our local Homebase. Probably worth ringing round.

Our w/e of decorating was mildly successful. Due to boring delays, the room wasn't finished enough for it all to be done and it's till piled with dd's furniture. HOwever, dp managed to paint the ceiling with 2 coats, which is brilliant! I can't paint ceilings, but I can do the odd wall now and then.

I've told them they have 2 more weeks. There isn't a great deal of work left if they put their minds to it! We'll see what happens.

I have got a chest of drawers for baby's room, so I am filling it with clothes while it's downstairs. At least I can wash them and have somewhere to put them, unlike all the rest of our clothes!!!

Where's Charley?? I have narrowed my babysling search to a 'Didymos', are you any closer to choosing?! What's everyone else got (I already have a Wilkinet and Bjorn type sling) ?? This is how I plan to avoid the double buggy for a while!!

Preggy insomnia got me last night for an hour at 4am Woke up exhausted. Am just so much more tired this time round.

I need to do a bit more painting myself, see you all later!

megi · 03/05/2005 12:28

I'm in the same position as you coop! - Someone guessed the other day that I was 4 months pregnant!!!! - However - I am naturally very small so it is all relative isn't it? I am feeling uncomfortable and am walking more slowly - it is only people who knew me before I was pregnant that realise I am actually quite big!

tribpot · 03/05/2005 12:41

Afternoon ladies! Glad to hear that Leeds was sunny - we still haven't had our thunderstorms here but the weather is noticeably cooler, thank GOODNESS. Leeds ladies, if you could arrange for the weather to be quite cool next week that'd be good, it will be bad enough having to get up to go to work without dealing with excessive heat as well.

I had a complete freak-out this morning, I think because I had my first dream with the baby in. My god, I am really having a baby. As luck would have it, the travel system turned up this morning as well, just to get the point across. Dh is battling to get to grips with how it all works.

Megi, you've really been in the wars, haven't you? I would definitely take the advice to slow down, hope dd feels better soon.

I woke up feeling sick as a dog last night, I hope this isn't a return to first trimester pukiness, I don't think I can cope with that again! On that cheery note, I think I'll go and have some lunch whilst I still feel up to it ...

Cooperoo · 03/05/2005 12:47

Megi - I wish I could have seen their face when you told them the truth .
I agree with Lippy - take the time off!!!
Enjoy your painting. It will all get done!!
I have a Wilkinet and Lua very kindly gave me a sling style carrier that she doesn't use (thanks again Lua ). I couldn't work it out to begin with as I had it on upside down (thought the shoulder pad was a cushion for the babies head ) but now I have tried it with dd's doll I think it is going to be fab for the early days especially our trip back to the UK. I think alot of the slings look great and was kind of relieved not to have to make a decision.... I do think my Wilkinet is great too though and I have used it alot. I did use it from new born last time when walking the dog but the sling will be much better as we both got quite hot last time and I did used to worry about her head...

sorry to hear of those of you who are feeling/being sick again-how awful.

Lynny, are you cooking your chilli in your slow cooker? Just been reading threads from the weekend (nothing to do at work, can you tell?) and saw you were a fellow slow cooker enthusiast.

I did read somewhere on here that midwives only worry if you are measuring 3 weeks ahead of your dates - 2 weeks either way is ok. Don't take my word for it though! Glad the rest of the appointment went well, although the carpal tunnel thing sounds very painful.

Hope you had a nice long leaving do lunch Teabelly.

Trib, will see what me and KVG can do about the Yorkshire weather next week - any particular days you want rain?

Cooperoo, thanks for the tip, I'll go and have a search. It's reassuring to know that others are suffering - I was starting to think I'd given myself food poisoning.

Are you all getting lots of braxton hicks contractions now by the way? Have had loads today.

Two left foot stomps and I'll be cracking floorboards .

I'm starting to have wishful thoughts about being normal size again...

Lynny, I've never tried making chilli in my slow cooker, but on Friday I shall be having pork in cider which is very nice (Friday because I'm not at work and have time to put it in the slow cooker in the morning).

I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

Will post it from home tonight (hopefully - if NTL have done what they promised and sorted out my broadband connection).

Hi Everyone, Sounds like most of you had lovely weekends in the sun (a big boo to Manchester rain)

Megi, poor you!! Sounds like you've had a pretty tough time of it! Glad you and bump are okay.

Mrs Wed, sorry you're feeling sick again, as well as the other discomforts of late pgy. My pgt mate and I rang each other last night to spend a v. fulfilling 40 minutes complaining about late pgy symptoms . I think we both felt much better for it.

KVG, not only do I feel breathless and sore when I roll over in bed, it seems to take a disproportionate amount of energy to do so. Also, every time I so much as breathe out, my light-sleeping DH seems to wake up. I feel really bad about it, but he is being really patient and understanding about it.

Tea, I am so to hear you are almost there. Hope you have a lovely 2 leaving lunches. I am almost counting the minutes until I can stop. Roll on next Friday.....

katzguk · 03/05/2005 17:23

charleypops · 03/05/2005 18:29

Evening!

Re strep B testing - so hospitals don't necessarily do it as a matter of course when you go in when your waters have broken? My local hospital does, but I'm not sure about the Royal Surrey where I'm having my baby - I'll have to ask. Have you all been told to go in to the hospital when your waters break for a check?

KVG - sorry, you've probably already told us, but what extra care/treatment are you getting or going to get now that you know you're a Strep B carrier? I have that breathless thing pretty bad too - I just have to think about my breathing and I get breathless and a racing heart.

Lynny - Did you know the "beached whale" woman?? that Carpel Tunnel sounds like a right pita. Are you going to get a sling for carrying the baby around - it might help with your wrists?

Lua/MrsWed/Tea - in addition to my (apparently not very ) useful tip about using last summer's boob tubes to cover your bump, I've since developed another precious little bump coverage technique seeing as the boob tubes are now too tight for me. Get a vest top - you know, the ones with thin shoulder straps, and pull it up over your bump, stopping under your boobs. Then thread your bra straps through the vest shoulder straps, and clip as normal. Wear it under your normal tops. It's not bulky, cool and comfortable! You can buy suitable vest tops in Tesco for about £2 and they are snug around your bump so you don't get a gap.

LIppy - Hi! I've been looking at the Maya ring sling and the Perraja and Ellaroo Maija wrap slings - as well as the Didymos! I have to figure out what the differences are in the wraps as they do all look very similar. What has made you prefer the Didymos? I quite like the idea of buying a long length of lightweight white linen to make one myself for when Pod's really tiny - it'll be nice and cool for summer and floaty and drapy for me, but I want to buy one first so I'll have an idea of what sort of fabric I need and what I'll need to do with it. I've been getting insomnia too which is most unlike me! - waking up at 4.30 for a couple of hours. I've downloaded Freecell to my mobile phone so tend to play that until sleep creeps back over.

MrsW - I get period like pain sometimes that lasts for about 20mins-half an hour - is this Braxton Hicks do you think? I'm sure I read somewhere though that BHs are painless?

Coop - glad you had a nice break - hope Dh's thumb gets better soon, I bet he's finding that a bit of a nuisance.

Megi - sorry you're having such a shitty time at the moment - my goodness - that fall must've scared you! Hope your In Laws are looking after you! Maybe you can use your dd's Chicken Pox as an excuse to take a bit of extra time off work without having to officially go part time to keep things simple?

MrsW/Lua/Megi - I nearly threw up yesterday after dinner for some reason (probably my cooking!) and I haven't felt sick for the whole of my pg - weird.

Jonah - hope you're taking it easier. I wonder why your cat throws up so much - does she have long hair? sometimes grooming them helps I think so they don't ingest as much hair (so less fur balls etc on your carpet)?

Berolina - has your cold gone yet? Why do you keep having internal exams? I haven't had one yet throughout my whole pg.

Welshie - I CANNOT BELIEVE you're still not getting a seat on the tube ! sorry you're having pg niggles. Thank goodness you have such a good relationship with your consultant. Hope you can now get into the idea of having a c section and appreciate that you won't be having labour pains, tearing, putting your back out, splitting open your cs scar etc etc

Uwila - I had a hospital tour on Sunday. It made me all scared!

Hi Pink - good to see you back. Are you still going for your long walks? I ask because I was taking the dog out everyday for about 2 hours while dp was away last week and my lower back was killing me. But then he took the dog out a couple of days so I didn't do any walking and my back suddenly felt fine. Glad you've got the post cage fitted finally. Is your dad hassling anyone about the painting for you?

Hi Tea - sounds like your enjoying your ML already!!

Lummox - glad you don't have GD. Are you going to France for a holiday? Wish I was.

Will the hospital act on the results of a privately purchased home test kit? What will they do if it's +ve? And why is the NHS test only 50% reliable - what's the point of that?

That woman sounds like a right thick bint - I mean, her insult about you really was laughable if that's the best she can do!

I'll see if I can post some sling links for you now....

So do they give you an injection or something before you give birth, then do you have to re-test to check that it's gone? (Just call me Magnus Magnussen!)

Re slings - there's some here and here

berolina · 03/05/2005 20:35

Evening all - just a quick post. Have two looooong days behind me (was at work for nearly 11 hours yesterday , today on the go for 12 hours at work, docs and birth prep) and am shattered.

Charley - it's known as the thoroughness of the German health system... I've been going in every 3-4 weeks for most of the second half of the pg and every 2 since week 32, and every time I get the full works - blood, wee, internal, scan and CTG. They might be being slightly more thorough with me than with others because of my cervix probs, but I think what I get is pretty standard. I know, amazing isn't it? Plus I was at the hospital last week to discuss the birth in view of my hip and pelvis problems and they did the full works as well! Was at the doc's again today and my cervix seems just as it should be - it's closed at least. Birth prep was really useful (breathing through contractions, how to avoid hyperventilating when panting and so on).
Sympathies to all those who are suffering from own or children's sickness. Lynny, what a horrible woman this person sounds - why are people like that anyway?
Promise a proper catchup when I've finished my working week tomorrow
