Hawkmoth, thanks for saying something. I was going to go back but think I just need to leave it. It's too much fun for people. At least it's in chat and will die/disappear some day. Need to pick my battles. Just really got my back up when someone said they wanted to 'shoot the lot' of us.

Thanks again.

sheenaisapunkrocker · 12/05/2009 16:03

Hi Yank, please ignore the idiots who have nothing better to do than abuse fellow humans.

I think these people are looking for something to "bond" over and sadly racism seems to fit the bill.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that you have to choose your battles. Let these people (and I use the term loosely ) fester in their own small-mindedness.

readyfornumber2and3 · 12/05/2009 16:49

Yank- I think you just need to ignore threads like that. Although it may come across as picking on americans (and I am not defending them btw) its not really any different to the way we take the mick out of north/south divide in this country.
I live between birmingham and the black country so have a mixed accent and when I lived up north (near Newcastle) I got ribbed for the way I said things and also struggled to understand what they said sometimes, it was never done malicously (sp??) its just stupid humour.
Look at how many Englishman,Irishmen,Scottishman jokes there are floating around lol.

I can understand why it might make you feel uneasy though, as someone who has been treated for depression 3 times in the past 6 years I know how vunerable you can feel about things, but by hiding away you are letting the depression win.
Keep your head up and NEVER feel ashamed of where you come from

PS I love Americans and would love to live in Florida

hencath · 12/05/2009 17:49

Kitkatqueen - thanks for your post, its always nice to hear that its 'normal'. The delivery suite have been fantastic I must say and admit me as soon as I ring them. They have also scanned me each time which is reassuring. In fact I will be having my 7th scan on saturday! Baby doesnt stop jumping about so I figure that is a good indicator that everything is fine.

Crafty - glad to hear that you have got a support belt - shame its a bit big, good luck with it though.

Yank - Sorry to hear that you've been upset by those horrid posts, please try not to read them as I think that at this stage in your pregnancy you are particularly vulnerable - its called the mid - term blues. I was crying inconsolably between weeks 23-26 and only just started to feel a little more 'normal' now. So if you factor your depression into that its no wonder you feel paranoid and sensitive at the moment. Try to focus on happy posts(I know its easier said than done)and not even look at the ones that may upset you. I personally love americans and lots of my family live in america. Those individuals that feel they need to express their dislike of others only do it as they are unhappy with themselves (classic bully tactics!). How lovely for your DH to feel baby - such a special thing - my DP has little patience and gets bored so often misses the baby kicking!

BabyBump2B · 12/05/2009 19:02

Yank - I'm so sorry your struggling. I think you just need to ignore threads like that. I'm Canadian and studied in the US and so we have the same accent and I think it sounds rediculous when north americans say things like "arse" (in the same way it sounds rediculous if brits say "ass')...

And we can all tell you're a lovely person and we know you're American . I agree with Ready that by hiding you're letting depression (and the idiots) win. We think you're fab so boo hiss to them I say!

BabyBump2B · 12/05/2009 19:10

Sorry that sounded really flippant when I was trying to be supportive. I'm having one of those days where nothing comes out right... Sorry

HeinzSight · 12/05/2009 19:31

I will post properly but want to quickly point Yank in the direction of this thread.

YanknCock · 12/05/2009 20:45

Thanks Heinzsight, have looked, have cried.

BabyBump2B, nothing wrong at all with what you said, I didn't think you were flippant! Thanks.

hencath, ready, sheena, thank you!

I can really tell the higher dose of ADs is kicking in---this would have thrown me for days before, instead of just a few hours.

Hawkmoth, thanks again for before. How is your DD today?

We went out this evening and picked up decorating stuff and a paint sample for baby's room. DH is colourblind. That was fun.

Hawkmoth · 13/05/2009 09:28

Glad the ADs are having an effect

DD was fine yesterday, didn't eat her tea and had midnight tantrums as a result! Then I was up three times in the night (think baby's becoming less transverse already so bladder squashing has commenced) and so I'm too tired to work effectively today. The work experience student can answer the telephone!

Gragh, I'm tingly all over, not in a warm fuzzy way either. Countdown... between 10 and 15 weeks to go TODAY.

kitkatqueen · 13/05/2009 11:20

Ok!! Proof of extreme baby brain

I just "got" the bit about the crab ladder

And if you haven't been following the thread you will have to go back a veeery long way to find it!!!

Morning all,

Hawkmoth - my deepest sympathies. DS wouldnt go to sleep last night and wanted to sleep in my bed. As soon as hell fell asleep I put him in his own bed only to be woken at 2am but screams of mummy im awake, its not dark its day now, lets play. Took till 5 to get him back to sleep. Got up at 6 to get ready for work, DS didnt want to wake and up and DH had a hangover... GR8 eh!!

So im at work totally knackered and not looking forward to an afternoon of important meetings!!

Oh the joys!! lol

YanknCock · 13/05/2009 11:38

Thanks again for yesterday, ladies.

Woke up to baby doing a 20 minute step aerobics routine this morning. He is definitely getting bigger/stronger! I think the movement was actually what woke me up, that's a first.

My former boss (now good friend) sent me a huge box of maternity clothes and baby stuff yesterday! DH and I had fun opening it and cooing over all the little clothes.

Today I visited the nursery on-site at DH's business park. It is right next door to his building, which is about a 20-25 minute walk from our house (through a park). Unfortunately he had a meeting so couldn't come, but we can visit as much as we want. Am already sad at the idea of leaving baby at 6 months, but I don't see how we could afford for me to stay home beyond that. At my current salary, a full time place would eat up exactly half my take home pay (but then there are childcare vouchers and tax credits to figure in as well).

Reminding myself that in the U.S. I'd be expected to leave baby at 6 weeks after unpaid maternity leave, so we are a lot better off! The children seemed pretty happy and busy, and I like the idea that DH is right there and could pop in on breaks and would be close for emergencies/sickness.

Hope everyone is well today!

Hawkmoth · 13/05/2009 12:40

Full time nursery would eat up 100% of my current salary... I'm starting to worry! My mum has looked after DD from when I started this job when she was 22 months... but she can't have a tiny baby.

And I KNOW all this is good training for the sleepless nights ahead... but it's CRAP.

KitKatQueen - my crab ladder is now being assimilated into the all-over hairiness that is my stomach. It's not pretty, but at least the old beard isn't growing in... yet!!!!

I want to sit in front of the telly and knit tiny clothes!

HeinzSight · 13/05/2009 13:01

KKQ LOL

hawkmoth, I had to go back a bit to check it was you who was suffering the after effects of iron tablents. SPATONE SPATONE SPATONE SPATONE !!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't recommend the stuff highly enough. I suffer with IBS and simply cannot tolerate iron tablets, they give me terrible pains. Spatone is a natural and you can add it to orange juice for extra iron absorption, also hides the hideous metallic taste. I honestly haven't had any problems taking it at all

Hawkmoth · 13/05/2009 13:03

I can't take spatone for retching... and because it's not free Orange juice is my MAJOR migraine trigger as well (grump).

I'm having bowel pains whether I take them or not... the Iron tablets just make me fart like a very poorly heifer!

HeinzSight · 13/05/2009 15:31

Oh sorry Hawkmoth to hear that Bowel pains are dreadful xx

Hawkmoth · 13/05/2009 19:09

Heinzsight... It's not too bad, just another sort of pain I guess to add to the SPD! The pain I had on Saturday was by far worse than labour! I'm pretty cool about it all though... I had a botched root canal filling, which upped my pain threshold over a period of eighteen months! I've learnt to visualise what's going on and deal... which is how I 'did' labour last time.

I found a lovely little cardigan pattern yesterday, and tomorrow DP and DD are giving me the morning to myself... so I'll get cracking on that

ScummyMummy · 13/05/2009 19:16

Have you tried Floradix instead of iron tablets, Hawk? Available at health food shops, I think. Not free though.

I'm 28 weeks tomorrow. I can't quite believe I'm going to have a baby in the next 12/13 weeks!

Hope Nathan's doing well, Michaela.

kitkatqueen · 13/05/2009 21:55

Hi Hawk,

Have you been on this website

Lots of free patterns

I have a gorgeous pattern for little mouse / tiger booties too, whether I will get round to making them before lo turns up who knows...

Can u crochet too?

OP posts:
kitkatqueen · 13/05/2009 22:22

I managed to get a deal on the spatone btw anyone who's interested. Every now and then boots do a buy 2 get 3rd free on vitamins and spatone is included. If you can use your boots points too you are even better off.

Has everyone signed up to boots parenting club? And toys r us? They automatically send out money off vouchers etc.

Also I know its a bit of a sore point with some but we should ( if in uk) be entitled to a bounty pack about now.

Most of it is crap, but I picked mine up in asda and straight away pulled out all of the vouchers, Asda will accept any manufacturers coupon even if u don't buy the product for up to 10% of your bill I got nearly £10.00 off my shopping that week If the voucher has the word asda on it you have to buy the product, but if it is just 30p off dettol they deduct the 30p even if you don't buy it iyswim??

Also asda are having baby week atm on returns desk there should be a leaflet telling you all about it. ~In the back are quite a few vouchers.

I think that Asda sell floradix???

ps I never remember to buy oj so i take my spatone with whatever juice I happen to have.

Hope you are feeling better soon hawk.

Yank I don't know if this will make you feel any better or not - I tend towards foot and mouth syndrome where I open my mouth and change feet but, I am frequently told I am irritatingly positive and annoyingly chirpy I believe in fate in a positive way - ie it will all work out in the end.... tra lala lala etc

Right now I'm not positive and I am not chirpy. I'm struggling. That is not the usual me. Its the attack of the pregnancy hormones. and if its getting to me then I can only sympathise for you and tell you it will get better. I am lucky I know in that I go to playgroups etc with my dc and have friends there and therefore a reason to get out. I know that going out and meeting people is going to be vv hard for you especially atm, but is there a hv clinic with attached playgroup near you? There will be other women there who you will probably meet in about 6 months and wish you had met sooner... are you in a surestart area?? Thinking of you gal...

There's some good deals in a lot of places - as well as the Asda ones (which finish this Sunday), Boots have some online deals with their baby stuff, including some decent money off the Fisher Price Rainforest range (which I've liked the look of) - £13 off the swing.

We've an NCT Nearly New sale in Cheam on Saturday, so depending on what I get there, Asda is getting my business after that, then Boots.

I picked up my Bounty pack ages ago for Asda (and all the coupons ran out, which is zero use for me!) - if you use the nappy coupon (for the free newborn starter kit), then you can use the voucher inside off for other various deals... (it's nappy related rather than Asda related - I think I used it towards my Changing Bag in Boots, so got the nappies and bag for about £2.50)

Also, Bounty have a Sainsburys deal they posted today, you can download the coupon from their site, but it's a 'Mum & Baby Bundle' (worth £9.99) if you buy one pack of Huggies Newborn Nappies, and you have a Nectar card.

Also, Tesco baby club, you get a Mother and Child parking permit to stick in your window, worth signing up if you haven't yet (and a load of vouchers).

kitkatqueen · 13/05/2009 23:06

oh good one! will check the sainsburys site! The vouchers in the asda leaflet run until the end of june if that helps - I also have a free online asda delivery code valid until end of june if anyones interested?

M3-NU-R3-FD enter at the check out.

I know i'm a sad case but I try v hard to get my 10% off each week so i'm always looking for vouchers Its almost like a competition for me each week

Thanks for the link KKQ! I can crochet, just!

This morning I was cruel and tucked DD back in bed at 8 and she didn't wake us again until 10! She did need the rest as well, but I feel much better for the extra couple of hours. Plus I'm left alone now until mid-afternoon. The one thing I miss about being single is silence!

TaleofTwoCities · 14/05/2009 11:38

Know how you feel Hawkmoth. I've reclaimed 3 hours of solitude on a Thurs morning now that ds is at school at dd is at the pre-school nursery. It's only 3 hours in a week but didn't realise how much I would appreciate the peace and quiet and getting stuff done without that nagging feeling should be doing something for one small child or the other! Why am I having another baby?

Hello everyone else! Got to go collect dd in a mo!

readyfornumber2and3 · 14/05/2009 18:35

Hi all hope the bumps are ok x

Well I was having a tidy up after DS went to bed last night and it suddenly occurred to me that once the twins arrive we are going to rewind 3 years!
DS is in a very good routine now and is always asleep by 730pm and I know that I will get "me" time till bed time, by the end of august it will be back to 24 hour parenting and sleepless nights

Obviously I am over the moon about the twins but it really has taken 6 months for the reality to dawn lol
