Hi thanks for advice re heartburn, its just that been on tablets from doctor for 2 months now with no improvement whatsever plus peptac and rennie, cant sleep at night as feel like permantely choking.

Re period pain, it just lasts few hours then goes, similar to when due on. I def had first time most way through but this has just started say last 4 days or so, wondered if could be water infection but think would worse and not go away.

Febes · 31/03/2009 20:26

I just did my birth plan so I'm feeling quite organised now.Its basically the same as last time but this time I hope to follow it more and have less intervention eg no epidural and water birth if possible. I ask my MW if I can go to the MLU at St Georges rather than St Heliers as its being renovated but she said that the MLU is being strict on not taking people out of the area so I guess St Heliers will be fine its nice and close to home and I have been happy with them so far so I guess thats where I will go. I have booked a hospital tour but they have no places until 3rd of May- 5 days before my due date . It will be all fine though I'm quite relaxed about the whole thing at this point.

detsy · 31/03/2009 20:47

Hallo ladies - have texted spangle so will advise if she gets in touch with me before she can get on here, exciting huh??!

OK i have some queries for Belgian sorry to offload on you but would appreciate your thoughts and advice. I had a growth scan today and all is fine - I'm 34+4 and Pip is on about 60th centile and weighs about 5lb9oz apparently. He has always been and remains very wriggly. Brief over - saw a new registrar, who went into mild hysteria over my age (41) and said I will need to be induced at term??? Also if i go into natural labour on or before term then I will need constant monitoring (the belt type, can't remember the name, CTG/ECG??) I was shocked at these comments and said I didn't want to be induced and wanted a natural, unmonitored water birth - which he said was likley to be impossible.....

He clarified all this by syaing that the incidence of still births in the over 40's is significant and they want to have the baby out whilst still kicking However, when i asked him for the stats on this he couldn't provide them!!!!

I was quite assertive with him and said I'd review once i get to term and make a decision then. He's booked me in for a sweep on 5th May anyway.

So sorry for the long post but just wanted your prof opinion. Lotti was induced at 13 days over as my waters had broken so they did it a day early and she was born with an apgar of 10!

Bloody good job I'm not a panic merchant as I'd be booking in to be induced now, grrr....

llareggub · 31/03/2009 20:52

Obviously I know absolutely nothing about anything, but the registrars that I have seen have always been the sort to err on the very extreme side of caution. One went into a complete flap about the trace of protein in my urine, whereas my consultant was completely blase about it. Personally I'd insist on seeing the consultant rather than the registrar...

Belgianchocolates · 31/03/2009 20:57

Bekkaboo I can't really say, because I'm not physically with you and can't test your wee or anything, but like you said, with a water infection it would be getting worse rather than stop after a while. You'd also be getting a stinging/burning sensation when you wee and need the loo all the time (difficult one when you're pregnant I know). If you are really worried I'd have to tell you to get in touch with your mw.

dandy Back pain cramps? Could it be muscular from sitting in a bad position? Are you drinking enough? It's not a water infection sort of pain is it? If it continues I'd mention it to your mw or see your GP or something or just ring the hospital to see what they think.

I wonder how Spangle is getting on.

I've just read the funniest thread in ages. Was late putting the dcs in bed because of it. It was about misreading or saying things wrong and for some reason it was under the AIBU section. Gosh, tears were running down my face and I laughed so much it hurt.

This baby has been pressing it's bum up against my ribs all day and I keep getting pins and needles high up in my bump. Really odd. Never had that with the other 2.

Right, I'll go and do an hour's work I suppose.

Hi, I know I'm a bit late coming on to Mums net but I have only just discovered you. We live in Valencia, Spain and this is our first baby. So, I'm a bit nervous as we have to contend with a bit of a language barrier sometimes. Although my medical vocab is getting better day by day!

I came across mumsnet as I was looking for a blog about ankle bitters based in Sheffield. Has anyone ordered anything from the website? I am being very careful as we stupidly ordered a car seat from 2 left feet on the 1st of March, the day before they were shown on Watchdog! Of course we haven't recieved it. The same car seat in Spain costs twice as much so we would much prefer to buy it in England and ship it over. Would really love some comments, Thanks

llareggub · 31/03/2009 21:03

Welcome Chica I've never heard of the site you mention, but if you search mumsnet or post in products with the name of the company in the title, someone will be able to help I'm sure. When are you due? Congratulations!

FiKelly · 31/03/2009 21:07

I don't get the laptop for a while and everything seems to be happening!

I hope spangle is doing ok and at the registrar detsy... as you say it's a good job you're not panicky by nature.

Re birth plans... i really must get round to writing mine down. I have it all in my head but I know it would be a lot more useful for everyone if i wrote it down.

emmabemmasmom i'm sure as everyone has said if it was anything really urgent they would have insisted on seeing you asap or sent you down to your local hospital again. Also can i come and join your delicious sounding dinner too?!

llareggub keep us updated! and maybe stop the googling for a while

FiKelly · 31/03/2009 21:10

Thanks belgian for the spinning babies link... i haven't had a chance with all that's happened in the last 24hrs to go through the site but i definitely will.... anything to help persuade our girl from staying transverse or going breech is worth doing

frazzledoldbag · 31/03/2009 21:21

Hi ladies, am having a bit of a weird night and if belgian is around I'd appreciate a bit of sane advice......
Put DD2 to bed at 7pm and felt a bit odd and really tired so went for a lie down. 7.30pm I was woken up by pain and tightenings. Have been feeling a bit sick and the tightenings are now happening about every 3-4 mins and sore in my back and low down at the front of my tummy especially. I've also been feeling some pressure (in my bum) all day - just dismissed it as baby moving down into position but TBH DH is getting a bit twitchy as some of these tightenings are really quite sore and still quite regular. If I was near term I'd think I was going into labour but I'm only 33+ wks so it's far too early. Was thinking of phoning the hospital but have been putting it off as don't want to go in (involving all the fuss of getting MIL over here to stay and baby sit etc if it's just Braxton Hicks). You'd think I should know what is going on but even though I've been through labour twice before I'm feeling a bit lost. DH is worried things might kick off, waters break etc and there'll be a panic. I don't think so, but then I'm hoping now. Think I'll go and maybe start packing a hospital bag and see how it goes.......any advice welcome. Ta (BTW I have been extrememly stressed out of late with work, and had an awful day today stress-wise ..... is this to blame?)

And spangle fingers crossed for you sweetie x

llareggub · 31/03/2009 21:24

Blimey, it's all kicking off. frazzled I think you should just call labour ward to be on the safe side. I rang them last night and is was very reassuring.

I'm starting to wonder if it is a full moon or something!

Momino · 31/03/2009 21:35

welcome chica!

can't believe spangle - wonder what's going on with her? Can't wait to hear...

Belgianchocolates · 31/03/2009 21:39

frazzled I'm around and my advise would be to phone lw and describe what's happening. They might say, take some paracetamol and see how it goes, they might want you to go in to be checked over. To be honest. If you were describing this on the phone and I was a mw in lw I'd tell you to come in to be checked over. It's a hassle with sorting out the other dc, but you do need to find out what's happening. Last thing you want is to really be in premature labour and deliver at home. Not that I'm saying you definitely are, but it needs checking out.

detsy I know women routinely get induced at term for 'maternal age' as they say. Funnily enough I was reading something today saying that there's no real evidence that there are more still births amongst 40+ women and I've been trying to find that article for you, but I've read so much today that I can't find it back. I'm surprised that they'd want to continuously monitor you just because of your age. That doesn't sound right, especially because everything else is OK in your pregnancy. You'll have to continue to be assertive and talk to your consultant in person. Do remember that you can't be forced to be continuously monitored if you don't want to.

llare you're right. I'm staring out at the sky trying to see if there's a full moon , but all I can see is darkness. Something strange is going on with this thread today though.

Hiya Chica31 and never too late to have another may09 join in the excitement.

frazzle i'd give the hospital a ring... it could well be braxton hicks but i'm sure they'd prefer to see you and take it from there...

runningmonkey · 31/03/2009 21:43

Blimmin nora! Must be something in the water today? Hope everyone is ok...
Off to bed now as still feeling throaty and coldy
Hugs to all
X x

FiKelly · 31/03/2009 21:43

belgian i'd heard somewhere in the past that labour wards are busiest at the time of full moon... have you found this?

llareggub · 31/03/2009 21:45

Maybe it is just like women who live together getting their periods together....

llareggub · 31/03/2009 21:46

Forgot to add, when DS was born it was full moon and the place was heaving! I know 4 other babies born that night.

Chica31 · 31/03/2009 21:48

Hiya, I'm 33 weeeks plus a couple of days. So far things have been great and I'm feeling fab. However last few nights I couldn't sleep. I end up on my back some how then wake up because I can't feel my legs. Any advice?

FiKelly · 31/03/2009 21:49

Have just googled the phases of the moon... it was a full one on the 26th and is now a half crescent apparently. Next full moon dates are april 25th and may 24th

Belgianchocolates · 31/03/2009 21:49

runningmonkey you have my sympathy. I've felt the same for the last few days. It's finally getting better now.

fi They do say that, but I haven't found this. What you do get is days where lw is {nearly) empty and then a few days later it's like everyone goes into labour at the same time. Something must be triggering it, I just can't work out what. 9 months post x-mas is probably one of the busiest times, except that this year 10 and 11 months post x-mas continued to be busy! Normally you get a bit of a lull. We think it must have been a good Valentines (08) for a lot of people!

OP posts:
FiKelly · 31/03/2009 21:51

chica31 have you tried putting a pillow behind you when you sleep on your side... that way if you try to roll onto your back it keeps you on your side more...

llareggub · 31/03/2009 21:51

Belgian funnily enough, me and the other 4 mothers who gave birth that night identified Valentine's Day as a possible cause!

Belgianchocolates · 31/03/2009 21:52

Hi chica welcome. Have you tried positioning yourself with pillows at your front and back so you can't roll over onto your back? At this stage your uterus would press on the big vein running behind it and reducing your bloodsupply to your brain and baby and I suppose it might make your legs go numb too if you stay there too long. Otherwise it could be that it's pressing on a nerve when you're on your back and the feeling you get is waking you up.
