Thought I'd better start the new thread before it was too late. Here we go!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Belgianchocolates · 27/03/2009 21:06

Oh, just read what you said looby. I think in your case it wouldn't be a bad idea to express and work on your supply. Breastmilk is better for maintaining baby's sugar levels than formula, so if you can have a little supply ready for lo as well as increasing your milk supply, then it will save you a lot of stress afterwards, because you never know how quickly your baby will take to bf. Some babies are naturals and others need a bit more help.

Don't know about the tires, but my Skate has a normal bike pump with it and a previous jogging buggy we had used a normal bike pump too.

OP posts:
llareggub · 27/03/2009 21:37

I think the pump that comes with the buzz is just a normal cycle pump, Looby. We've never had to use ours, touch wood! How are your readings today?

I'm getting a bit fed-up of being pregnant. My pelvic pain is back again, I feel huge and I'm struggling to run after DS in the park. I want this pregnancy over!

LoobyLou36 · 27/03/2009 21:50

9.7 9.2 8.2 llare last one would prob have been higher - I forgot to do it on time was a bit later than it should have been

LoobyLou36 · 27/03/2009 21:54

Have you not had many punctures with your buzz then llare? that's one thing I was worried about

chocolatebunnies · 27/03/2009 22:08

Thank You for all your support ladies,

gerta Thank you for the link, will try it and see what comes up.

So heres to a brand new me, I AM NOT GOING TO LET MY MIND TAKE OVER MY LIFE!

I am going to get out there and do this for me, madi and bump.

I've decided Im going to try and find a group to join, to do something fun for me.

You guys have really helped and it means so much, Id be buggered if I didnt have you here, Thank you so much.

Hope everyone is ok this evening.

Hello, sorry have just read the last few posts (no time at present to catch up properly on the last 4 or so I've missed) and am curious about this expressing before birth thing. I know it's only recommended for those with GD and it's for a specific reason but am wondering about doing it a bit to see if my milk might come in quicker (and more!- with both my girls I've had a rubbish milk supply. Can anyone advise any more about this and how much it is reasonable to expect to get of the colostrum while pregnant - I'm guessing not a lot but would love to know?
Off for a bath and a reasonably early night now, electrician due to come at 8am so need to be up and reasonably presentable by then (am not usually fit for viewing at that time on a Sat morning - usually slob around a bit!)
Am also a bit fed up of this pregnancy thing - feel fat, hideous (despite women with 'bump envy' coming up to me at toddler group telling me how fabulous I look (yeah, right). Feel like a big blob, my trousers all fall down and my tops are all getting too short and on top of everything the baby has turned head down and has been trying to head-but his way out of me for most of the afternoon. Ow ow ow.
I have been quite stressed this week about work issues and did have a bit of a panic in the midst of all this I was going to deliver prematurely. Fortuanately I've calmed down now and I don't think the baby's on his way out (lucky really since DH is away till Sun night and anyway we can't agree on a name)!
And it was quite embarrassing really but I found myself eyeing up a woman who looked a lot like I did before this pg and she caught me staring at her. I was just looking longingly/wistfully at her skinny legs and bum and wondering when I can wear my size 10 skinny jeans again - she must have thought I was a mad woman (or a pervy lesbian).
Anyway any advice on the expressing / amounts / techniques / whether it will increase milk supply quicker etc etc most welcome. Might have a go and squeezing out a bit of colostrum in the bath - bet there's nothing there tho! My boobs (although a pretty good size) are a bit rubbish at this baby-feeding lark.
Night ladies x x x x

frazzledoldbag · 27/03/2009 22:18

chocolate sorry I hadn't read the posts properly and hadn't realised you were struggling a bit. Toddler groups can be great and give you a bit of a break and a chance of some adult conversation. Also giving Madi a chance to meet lots of new kids and do new things can only be a good thing. Glad you've found somewhere and someone to go with. I go to one every Friday morning and even though sometimes I can't really be bothered I always make myself go and am glad I did when I get there. Take care x x

LoobyLou36 · 27/03/2009 22:19

I'm off to bed DH is insisting on watching marillion dvd quite loudly - at least 2 floors up I might not be able to hear it as much!
I like marillion normally but I feel knackered and achy and fat and fed-up - doesn't help that dh is nearly at the end of his first bottle of wine too - I'd normally have a small cider perhaps it being a friday night but not now with the gd.

night night x

frazzledoldbag · 27/03/2009 22:22

oh dear, I didn't mean to sound like I think lesbians are pervy [removes foot from mouth]. I don't! And all the lesbians I know are lovely. [wonders how many people she's managed to offend ]
Sorry. Bye

frazzledoldbag · 27/03/2009 22:34

And right, sorry but I have to ask before I go.....what do you all think of Sebastian? DH looked horrified but my (gorgeous and very gay) hairdresser suggested it and initially I said noooooooo, but now it's grown on me and I think Seb is really nice.
(or is this just a blur of mad pregnancy hormones?)
I really liked Will (William) but last night saw a reality tv programme with a total pillock in it called Will and it's sort of put me off. [mad pregnancy hormones again?]

Seriously, this baby is going to have NO NAME at this rate. My first and only boy - you'd think I'd have at least one name sorted.
Right am going now. Definitely. Bye.

Oh and did anyone see that Trophy Kids programme last night? HORRIFYING. Especially the bit with the little boy who played golf and was home-schooled by his (quite frankly) scary, money obsessed parents and not let out of the house unless to play golf and wasn't allowed friends (god, it's making me cry again just thinking about it). It was almost on a par with the surrogacy prog the other week that had me sobbing all over the place.

Stop talking frazzle.
Night x

frazzledoldbag · 27/03/2009 22:35

oh look, shock, I've been talking to myself again!
detsy chicken, where are you? hope you're well. x

llareggub · 27/03/2009 22:39

Looby No punctures yet! I don't "off-road" in it though, our buggy is strictly pavement based! I think we only really used it regularly up until 12 months. When DS started walking I used to make him walk and then carry him (he is v skinny and light) when he got tired. So our Buzz is like new really. I'm looking forward to getting the buggy out again as I find the basket quite handy when shopping. Your readings are like mine were when I was first diagnosed. If they do put you on insulin you'll find it a lot easier to manage.

chocolatebunnies Have you considered a pre-school for Madi? My DS started a few weeks ago and he loves it! He asks me every day if he can go to school. He does 2 mornings a week and it gives me a break but I also think he has really benefited from it. We've never really done the playgroup thing either. I've been to a few but I never really clicked with any of them. I meet regularly with my NCT group and we meet in our houses during the winter and in the park in the summer. Perhaps when the baby comes you can find something similar? We're all in the same boat really, all looking for friends and companions for our little ones.

On the expressing thing, I spoke to an NCT breastfeeding counsellor about it and she was a bit dubious about whether I should waste my time on it. I've done it anyway, and would have done even if it wasn't for the GD. I took a while for my milk to come in, and DS was jaundiced and under the phototherapy lamp so had to use formula on the advice of the SCBU nurse. This time I want to be prepared with my own EBM so I don't have to use formula until I am ready to do so. I'm still a bit concerned about how I'll manage to breastfeed DS and the new baby, not in terms of quantity, but in terms of the logistics! DS can be quite demanding at times so I am hoping he will wean himself off soon after the baby comes.

ladyhelen Thomasland isn't too far from us and we are hoping to take DS soon. Will a 2.5 year old enjoy it, do you think?

Not sure what to do tomorrow. DH is meeting clients in the morning so I've got a morning to kill with DS. We painted with blue paint and glitter today and now there is glitter everywhere, so I should try and get rid of the glitter but I know from experience it is a fruitless exercise!

llareggub · 27/03/2009 22:42

I love Sebastian! My cousin has named her baby Sebastian and they call him Sebo for short. He is beautiful! I think we are going for George Tomos or George Taliesin as we want a Welsh name as a 2nd name, like DS. His middle name is Iestyn (Yes-Tin for you non-welshies!)

We also like Henry, Edward and Rupert, although as we already have a son with the name of a bear we though a Rupert Bear might just be too bear like. Which ruled out Edward (Teddy!) as well!

llareggub · 27/03/2009 22:47

My turn to talk to myself! I'm watching Jonathan Ross and I am thinking that Rhys Ifans is oddly attractive. I think it is the hormones!

chocolatebunnies- I am glad you are looking at taking Madi to some groups- i find them good for me (chance to have a drink and a chat with other mums) and good for my DC (it's interesting to see how they interact with other kids and what they enjoy doing when faced with lots of different toys and activities).

I would agree with llaregubb about pre-school too. It might be worth looking at a few now before LO arrives, and getting your name down on a waiting list (as some may be booked up). When LO is here, it will give you a couple of mornings with just your LO, and once Madi is 3, she will be entitled to 15 hours free childcare which is even better (although I guess you may well be entitled to free childcare now, depending on your fiance's income).

pulapula · 28/03/2009 07:59

Llareggub- I'm intruiged at the name of your DS - I'm guessing that it must be Barnaby (and not Pooh or Bungle)!

frazzledoldbag · 28/03/2009 08:08

oooh Barnaby is fab. I used to have a car called Barnaby (and would have a child called it if DH would consider it - he won't). I like Rupert too, but again DH says NO. I am going to put up a fight for Seb though, the more I hear it the more I like.........bit of different slant than Hamish though which is what DH is calling the bump (still)

Good morning all by the way. Waiting for an electrician to arrive currently. Have clothes, makeup etc on already (am very impressed with myself seeing as it is Saturday and all that!)

FiKelly · 28/03/2009 08:08

chocolatebunnies glad your friend is going too and good on you for taking the plunge. the 1st time is always hardest.. remember if you don't like that one other groups will be different and it may take a few try's before you find one that works for you..

i have had a go in the bath to see if i've any colostrum but either there's nothing or it's because i've no idea how to express! prob the latter.. had major milk supply probs last time so if expressing anything now would help i'll be v interested.

more house hunting today.. the one with the massive garden this am. it's a gloriously sunny day so at least ds will be able to give the garden the once over.

love the name sebastian btw. dh wouldn't use it though as he always wants a celtic name..

FiKelly · 28/03/2009 08:23

re pre schools I agree to get an idea of which one you fancy for madi. I put ds down early for the one I really wanted him to go to. they got in touch last week to say they have a place free & he can start early on 20th april if we want.. I'll have to pay until the summer as he's not 3 till aug. I think it will be good though as it will give him more to do and me some alone time with new dd 2 afternoons a week. it's £9 per session which we can cope with till funding kicks in.

frazzledoldbag · 28/03/2009 08:24

hi fi - was wondering how your house hunt was going. Looking forward to hearing your verdict on the one with the big garden - what area of the country do you live in again [nosy emoticon] - sorry am sure you've already said but I can't remember. Anyway good luck with that one, hope it's 'the one'!
As I've already said my DH wants a Scottish name but I don't (am not loving any of them at the mo) - I liked Campbell for a while but I don't like the soup connotation.
Forgot to try to express last night - will have a go later.

Momino · 28/03/2009 09:03

hi all. just a quick one since i'm off to a wedding all day. in laws here to take care of children so it will be a bit of free time for dh and me (even though the long day will be tiring).

hope all ofyou are having a good weekend and will catch up later.

btw, i love sebastian and would have used it (well, if we had a boy) but doesn't go with our surname. lovely name.

ta ra. xx

FiKelly · 28/03/2009 09:46

i'm in weston-super-mare in north somerset.. land of scrumpy (bring your own container and get it filled from the cask), broad west country accents and donkeys on the beach.

FiKelly · 28/03/2009 09:51

our ds is a Finn a friend of mine chose Finlay we both have scottish family..

frazzledoldbag · 28/03/2009 10:16

oh fi of course I remember now. You used to be in Edinburgh didn't you. And you kindly offered to come to my cvs / amnio with me didn't you ....bit far away though!
I suggested Finn to DH recently, I prefer Finn to Finlay TBH. But still loving Seb. Although DD1 just turned her nose up at it too. She likes Hamish too. (oh no no no no no)
Better get them in the bath now. Bye x
