Also Springy, if you put the fiver a week formula would cost into a jar, after a year you will have £260 to put towards the wedding present you couldn't buy yourselves.

I'm off to bed too
Wish me a long sleepy night with no small people being ill

I see it a bit like giving up smoking in that respect, Nutty.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 20/03/2009 19:42

I suppose it is in a way, but your not really giving up anything just gaining

You're giving up a lot of potential female cancers, in a way. But also a bit of independence.

LuLuBai · 20/03/2009 19:49

Evening all - just briefly popping in and the thread seems to have gone all Jeremy Clarkson.

DH and I hanker after a citroen DS but we are more likely to end up with a 'shopping car' as Boff puts it.

LuLuBai · 20/03/2009 19:50

£260 Boff? So if Baby2 is as marvellous a feeder as DD was I could potentially get a double buggy rather than managing with a single and a sling? Interesting .

Bicnod · 20/03/2009 19:55

Hello everyone I had my 34 week midwife appointment today (am 34+4 today) and had a lovely midwife who left me feeling really positive about the birth and the baby and everything, so feeling very happy today

Might also have something to do with the fact that I only have one week left at work - woo hoo!!!

I asked the midwife about the period type pains/tight bump and she said all perfectly normal so not being panicky anymore...

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 19:58

bicnod - that's great that MW was lovely. It'll make things loads easier that you are now more relaxed too.
Nice one

SpringySunshine · 20/03/2009 19:59

Night night MM & bronze xx

Boff, I'm intending to try for the 6 weeks - it doesn't sound that long to try for, but I think it may feel it at times! (& the potential 5 weeks I have to wait for this baby sounds like forever!)

The money issue is actually part of it. If I can not spend money on formula & not carry around endless bottles & related paraphernalia, I'll be happy with that - never mind the health benefits, etc!

BoffinMum · 20/03/2009 20:00

We have got one of these, but the brakes have gone on that too!!! So it's parked up on the drive.

Midge

Bicnod · 20/03/2009 20:00

thanks trista

i think the sunshine is adding to my happy and relaxed state... fingers crossed it lasts over the weekend...

SpringySunshine · 20/03/2009 20:01

Also, just had text from BB - she & baby are fine. Not breech. Lots of scans & tests, but things are fine. She'll probably be on to give details soon (or at least I would be, in my addicted state) but I don't want to leave you all worrying if my mind's at rest

SpringySunshine · 20/03/2009 20:02

Bicnod, glad you're not panicking now & hurrah for lovely MWs

BoffinMum · 20/03/2009 20:03

Springy, the secret is to get consistent advice from an organisation like the NCT, and get a good latch sorted out in the first day or two.

I am sure you can do it. Really, by 12 weeks you'll be able to do it practically hands free and it really does get massively easier as time goes on.

BoffinMum · 20/03/2009 20:04

Glad BB is OK!

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 20:08

Great news about BB!

BabyBolat · 20/03/2009 20:11

Hello all

very very quickly popping in before DH brings in my cup of tea and I fall asleep on the sofa!

Ok so got to the hospital all hooked up = baby was fine for about 25 minutes then started to go all sleepy and snarfly and heartbeat dropped a bit so then had to go up to labour ward and be connected for another hour (I don't really know what they were talking about but something about D-Cell??!! any ideas??) anyway consultant checked the heartbeat over and said there was nothing to worry about really but that if I was in the slightest bit concerned just to pop back up and they would hook me up again no problem (lovely lovely hospital) - was nice for DH tho as he has never heard the heartbeat and got it solidly for 90 minutes!

Anyway also had a scan while I was there to check everything out re movements etc - baby is definitely not breech (stupid local midwife - am seriously refusing to ever go there again even if it is an emergency!) and blood is flowing through the placenta Ok so that is all fine - saw the baby's face which was very cute (and funny as DH couldn't see a thing - like that episode in friends where its really obvious and he was like I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING!!! ), baby is fine, about 6.5lbs at the moment (although they always say they can't be 100% sure on weight). However baby is not happy about all the prodding and is giving me some nasty nasty pains tonight (although they are coming with the movement so actually don't mind for once!)

Surprise yay yay for DH spoiling you!

MM leave that cervix alone!!

Bicnod glad all us ok

Auld - it is really good - I tried it carrying a small baby and a toddler and it is really supportive and comfortable - it's personal preference really but the one shoulder slings really hurt my back when I tried carrying things in it!

SpringySunshine · 20/03/2009 20:13

That book that you recommended arrived today, Boff. I haven't read it yet, but had a quick flick through & it looks really good

The one thing I quickly picked up on without further investigation (which wasn't mentioned at our NCT breastfeeding thing, despite playing with dolls for positioning!) was about not holding the baby's head in the crook of your arm (as you would when bottle feeding) as it pulls your breast sideways. Instead you should have the head a few inches down the arm. It seems so obvious now, but I've grown up never seeing anyone breastfeeding (I've seen very few people bottle feeding, actually - I don't know anyone with babies!) & it's all completely new to me & need the bleeding obvious stating, I think

BabyBolat · 20/03/2009 20:13

Just read springy's post - it's worrying that I am online before I have even phoned my parents!!!

"My name is BabyBolat and I am addicted to MumsNet"

surprisenumber3 · 20/03/2009 20:14

so glad BB is okay.

Bum, the bits they sent for the cot are the wrong ones!!

regarding the carseat/pram situation (ie, don't have one!!), one of my best friends is getting rid of a M&P pram with all accessories, car seat, cosy toes, rain cover etc, year old and in perfect condition so I think I might be sorted for now!

DH has gone food shopping and taken the kids so I'm off to watch TV and iron.

By the way, LO is so active tonight. feel like I can grab her little knees and ankles sometimes - hope she doesn't turn around now, she is certainly jigging about lots!

SpringySunshine · 20/03/2009 20:16

Ooh, 6.5lbs is a nice weight! Really pleased that everything's okay - you should complain about that MW. She scared you for no reason & didn't provide any follow-up care!

SpringySunshine · 20/03/2009 20:17

Me too, BB. Me too
