Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

well it isn't this, BUT, I have to say it anyway...when I had pre-eclampsia I had a bad headache, drank loads more thinking it was that, but I was hardly passing any urine as my kidneys weren't working properly due to the PE and I became all puffy instead.

Now like I said, it really isn't that but just had to say.

Bleuravin · 20/03/2009 17:12

Well, funny you should mention that... because MWs have been a little concerned because while I've not have protien in my urine, I've had headaches recently and I am a little puffier lately and my BP is slightly higher when I go in...but not when I'm at home... MW yesterday said that she wasn't too worried about me seeing as I was watching for signs myself and the urine keeps coming back negative... I was given instructions to call if I had more symptoms... But I'm actually less puffy then I was yesterday...

Bleuravin · 20/03/2009 17:16

On another note, would it be completely bad of me to...

Mix Smash with the two potatoes I have to make a decent portion of mashed potatoes instead of going to the store for more...I dread the noise while there and it'd only be potatoes that I need...

OR

Should I make a completely different supper (fish and chips probably) and save the Swedish meatballs for the freezer or tomorrow evening because I'm sure I can get some potatoes tomorrow

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 17:20

bleu - promise you'll watch your symptoms like a hawk. I had PE then Eclampsia with 1st pg it's nasty. Catching it early is best.

surprisenumber3 · 20/03/2009 17:20

Bleu, it was completely obvious when I had it. My face was puffed up like goodness knows what. I think some swelling of the hands and ankles is to be expected but this was something else. BP was high, head was so painful and + of protein finally went to ++++.

In the end I had to have a catheter and was only allowed to drink half the amount of fluid compared to what I was outputting to get rid of the swelling.

Just keep an eye on it at home - do you have some urine sticks?

surprisenumber3 · 20/03/2009 17:22

me and trist know what it's like so we will nag you

It can just develop so quickly, mine didn't, I had it from 27 weeks til I delivered at 34 weeks but was in hospital most of that time, on meds.

A blood test can also confirm and the results can be back in half an hour.

Bleuravin · 20/03/2009 17:24

I don't have any urine sticks no
My face isn't puffy, just the hands and feet/ankles...
the headache is in just one temple not across the whole head, but it does hurt...

Perhaps I better google a little more for symptoms...

surprisenumber3 · 20/03/2009 17:27

your midwife can give you some sticks, for peace of mind.

My headache was like a band I seem to remember.

I'm sure it's not that but it won't hurt to watch for the symptoms.

Bleuravin · 20/03/2009 17:31

well according to google I pretty much have it... But then the symptoms can be symptoms of pregnancy in general... the protien in the urine is the only thing I really haven't had besides the puffy face...
not really easy to diagnose then is it?

Poo Now I'll be paranoid again.

Bleuravin · 20/03/2009 17:33

I'm wondering about that rib pain I had the other day... but then surely protien would have been in the urine yesterday...

surprisenumber3 · 20/03/2009 17:34

sorry it's the protein and the high BP they worry about most and you don't have either. And then they mention a pain high up on left side but honestly, a blood test can diagnose (liver function and renal profile).

Sorry, really didn't mean to make you paranoid

Bleuravin · 20/03/2009 17:35

Oh dear, Brain caught in a loop, I may try a co-codemal in an hour and see what that does to the headache...and then if nothing much happens I may give MAU a call this evening...

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 17:35

If at any time your vision gets a bit weird, blurry, flashing lights, silvery stars etc, that's a concern.
I didn't have protein or above vision problems at first, but had all other symptoms. Then I suddenly had protein, was admitted, then started getting the visual stuff.

AuldAlliance · 20/03/2009 17:38

Oh, BB those close baby carriers look good.
(Sorry for delayed response, have been out...)

Hope everyone's aches and ailments don't get any worse, and that you have a good evening.

Off to get DS out of the bath.

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 17:39

bleu your BP has been ok yeah?

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 20/03/2009 17:43

Bleu - do keep an eye on it, tis why i was (rib pain and feeling generally rough/headachey and limp) admitted but i did have blood & protein ++ as well. Blood tests are really quick and definate though so you can insist on them doing them if you want.

Though you will be told that the rib pain thing is musco(sp)-skeletal and possible rib damage from the baby.

OP posts:
Bleuravin · 20/03/2009 17:46

I just checked again...It's a bit high for me 135/77... (usually at home i'm 120/70ish)
but maybe because of the headache in general?

Bleuravin · 20/03/2009 17:48

yeah that's what they said about the rib pain...muscular-skeletal... it's one of the reasons I have the co-codemal in the house...

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 17:48

I would say that's ok.
It's when the bottom one is 90 or above that they really start to worry.
BUT I'm no expert!!!

SpringySunshine · 20/03/2009 17:49

BB, your MW today doesn't seem to have a clue what she's talking about. You & your baby are fine, you know that. I hope you've phoned your hospital to make sure. Oh good, you're going in to get checked

Trista, what a load of rubbish about willing yourself into labour. I've had false starts but not because I'm willing myself into labour - it's more the other way around! I'm willing myself into labour because of the false starts

Am glad that she's so supportive of your birth plan, though That's reassuring. My MW is coming to discuss mine a week on Sunday & hopefully she'll be lovely too.

Nutty, if I'd been here I'd have made a crossing your legs joke - sorry I missed the opportunity

surprise, your DH really came through last night! How lovely You deserve every bit of loveliness! & yay for the cot

Bleuravin · 20/03/2009 17:51

I'll ask Dh when he gets home if I look puffy to him and we'll maybe go into MAU if the headache doesn't go away

Juwesm · 20/03/2009 17:52

Ah, DH just took me down to the beach so that I could let the sea air blow some of the cobwebs away! Feel very refreshed, and my cabin fever is sorted! Now I have to catch up again though!

SpringySunshine · 20/03/2009 17:54

Bleu, definitely keep an eye on things, but I think you'd know if it was something big like PE - don't worry. & at this point it's not as scary as when you're a lot earlier in pregnancy - if they suddenly have to pull the baby out, you're term already

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 17:55

bleu - go with your instincts. If you don't feel right, if you just have a feeling that things are not 'just pregnancy' then go in.
It is best to be checked out rather than ignore, in a situation like this.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 20/03/2009 17:55

Juw - lol are all your cobwebs blown away??

Springy - i'm sure there will be another opportunity
