Now that I am slowing waking up to reality and belatedly dealing with things like pushchairs, etc., can anyone recommend a good sling? (I can't make my own, am rubbish at that sort of thing ). I have a BabyBjorn, which is good after about 2 months, but would like something which I can use earlier and which is possibly not as hot as the BabyBjorn, but in which baby can face either in or out.
Not fussy at all, am I???

bronze · 20/03/2009 13:35

mei tai? ring sling?

next time I say the kids are perking up take me out and shoot me....

Juwesm · 20/03/2009 13:36

Auld, I have just bought one of these . Obviously I cannot yet so how good it is, but it is suitable from newborn and is a really lovely light material. Much fiddlier than a Baby Bjorn type though, and DH pulled a face at it!

I found some useful info on Little Possums

AuldAlliance · 20/03/2009 13:41

Ooh, thanks for the ideas. I'm surfing like mad, now...

BabyBolat · 20/03/2009 13:57

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I HATE BEING PREGNANT

Ok sorry this will be a VERY VERY ranty post

  1. So get to the community MW office (there is a reason I chose not to go to that hospital as it's skanky as hell) to wait for an hour and finally be seen
  2. Midwife is concerned at lack of movement again and am to go back to my hospital if I haven't had any movement by 3pm today - fine
  3. Despite being 'deeply engaged' 2 days ago - the mw now thinks the baby is breech and was going on and on about how dangerous it is now I am a week away from due date and how she can't believe this was 'missed' (although she can't be 100% confident it is)
  4. She struggled to find a heartbeat and when it came she just kept looking all concerned - when I asked her what was wrong she said, should be nothing to worry about but 'watch those movements' and go back as soon as you think something is wrong.
  5. I know have really bad period pain - AGAIN!!! and tightenings at the bottom of my bump which I know are nothing because this baby hates me.

Seriously am I wrong to be annoyed at that - if she was concerned about it being breech or movement, shouldn't she have kept me in or at the very least done an internal? This is why I hate that hospital! in chichester they give you an internal almost as a matter of course!

The thing is, I know I should go back to my hospital but I will be all hooked up for an hour then they will send me on my merry way saying baby's hb is fine, just come back if you are concerned GRRRRRR!!!!!

Springy how are your contractions?

Smutty that is adorable!!

BabyBolat · 20/03/2009 14:00

Auld, I got the close baby carrier here

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 14:00

Hey all, what a beautiful sunny day today, although it's a wee bit chilly here.
Had the MW here for her home visit to talk about my birth plan today. I was really nervous about her coming. I thought she'd look at the plan and think I was a mad hippy or something because I've put in my plan I want it to be quiet, intimate and natural. I want to be left in peace in the water to give birth and I want DP in with me. She was totally fine with it all, encouraging and even gave me a well done for being so organised and having it written up! I am so much more relaxed about it all now. The support is so reassuring.
She said: "now you must be careful not to will yourself into labour"
Me: [hopeful] "you can will yourself into labour?"
MW: "well no, but some women get so impatient and desperate that they have a lot of false starts"
She also said to expect a few twinges as baby gets lower into pelvis.
She was so lovely though and I now feel really relaxed about waiting for the baby to come, as I know that when it does, I will be mentally prepared and if all goes to plan, the birth will be exactly as I'd like.

lulu - ROFL at you dreaming about the thread battle.

I'm pretty sure I dreamt one of you would go into labour by the end of today. Can't remember who it was though. Think it might have been BB. We'll have to wait and see!

BabyBolat · 20/03/2009 14:02

Tristal - if that happens I will personally come up there and kiss you!!!!

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 14:03

BB sorry to hear of your shitty time at MW. Hopefully my dream will be right and you'll have your baby out soon. Can't believe they are leaving you so confused though. What arseholes.

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 14:08

BB should they not be doing a scan or something to confirm how baby is lying? Surely, seeing as you only have a week they'd have to get organised pronto?

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 14:11

BB the more I read your post, the more I think she's been an absolute eejit for sending you home after supposedly having all these worries. She was a fanny for sending you home after expressing these concerns.
Are you feeling ok now?

BabyBolat · 20/03/2009 14:13

Well that was my point but no she just packed me off - am so bored of this now! I am tempted to call up my hospital and just ask them what they think I should do!

Schulte · 20/03/2009 14:13

BB WHAT! If MW really thinks baby is breech then you need it checked out to be 100% sure. Does your LO ever get the hiccups and if so, where do you feel them? Also what on earth was she not happy about when she listened to the heartbeat... she needs to tell you! I'd try to get seen by someone else asap to put your mind at rest.

Bronze sorry to hear about everyone having tummy bugs... awful, I just hope you won't get it too.

Springy stay away from that DH of yours!

Right offski again... must wake DD up...

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 14:14

Please do BB. I think it's terrible she sent you home after all this.

BabyBolat · 20/03/2009 14:24

She didn't actually say she wasn't happy just said, shouldn't be anything to worry about but watch the movements! my biggest concern is the breech thing - am back to having a fair few BH's again and its really dangerous to go into labour if is breech -

I am still fairly sure it is head down as I can feel pressure there when I walk and that's where any movement is (quite deep down)

DH is home at 4 today so maybe I'll give them a call after 3 and see what they say

Just to check - do you know if you get bank holidays back in mat pay?

Bleuravin · 20/03/2009 14:26

OMG my EDD is only 2 weeks away! I don't even have my bag packed!
AAaaaa!

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 14:27

No idea about bank holidays, sorry
Have there been any more movements?

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 14:28

Bleu you're so funny. I have no bag packed either but I've got a while yet at 36+1.

BabyBolat · 20/03/2009 14:29

No just a lot of pain from all the prodding, it did move a little bit at the hospital when she was pushing me around but nothing all day other than that!

tristaleejac · 20/03/2009 14:30

Well make sure you do phone someone then. If only to put MY mind at rest!

bronze · 20/03/2009 14:33

BB- phone the hospital now

Bleu- go and pack your bag

auld- don't bid against me on close slings

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 20/03/2009 14:34

BB - call your hospital and explain what she said!! fwiw i think that MW was a bit of a tw*t!!! oooooohhhhh goood dreams in your favour from Trista there
