Hi April Mums
Sorry I haven't been keeping up with the gossip, but I hope everyone is growing nicely. I am 33+4 now and am starting to feel really cumbersome. I'm also getting lots of weird twinges and horrible back ache, so really looking forward to getting this little babe out.
That said, I'm not really looking forward to actually getting him out, as NCT refresher classes have been reminding me of the gory details, not to mention the fact that my hospital (Kingston) is famously busy and under staffed. I am joining a queue of people who are worried that they will be sent home until the last minute, then it will be too late to have an epidural - seems to be a familiar story here.
I've also been completely over-emotional the last few days - lots of tears for things that I would normally just deal with. It's making me feel a bit nuts. Is anyone else like this? It could just be related to the fact that I've given up chocolate for lent of course... I must be crazy.

PuzzleRocks · 01/03/2009 11:28

Oh, just read the first update, poor Springy, how frustrating.

Boffin - Stop it now. You must not care what they bloody well think!

PuzzleRocks · 01/03/2009 11:33

Hi Sarahmum - We are all like that and yes it is normal. Giving up chocolate however is insane. . Would you like to join or buddy system? see here

brettgirl2 · 01/03/2009 11:41

I think they would be interested, if it was presented and targetted in the right way. I don't know very much about the foundation stage at all (I work in 14-19 curriculum development). However, when I was growing up my parents had no real concept of the purpose of education - it was all about kids showing that there was an 'intelligence hierarchy' for employers to eventually 'pick' from. It would be really helpful for mums to have a wider understanding of the purpose of the different stages their kids go through.

Have you read Alison Wolf's book 'Does education matter? Myths about education and economic growth' it concentrates on vocational education rather than foundation stage but it is one of the few academic books I have ever thoroughly enjoyed reading. Perhaps that's also because it's quite cynical though and I tend to be cynical of most things I read

brettgirl2 · 01/03/2009 11:43

I've given up drinking more than two small glasses of wine a week for lent . Pregnancy really is tough enough on its own!

bronze · 01/03/2009 11:43

I found reading all last nights posts quite stressful. Having had a prem I was reading it willing her baby to stay in not come out. I understand its frustrating for Spring but hes so much better in than out at the moment.

I've found my notes at last. DD has ripped the front page of but heyho they never seem to bloody read them anyway.

Will you lot all stop having sex now please (well I'm not assuming you're having sex right now but you know what I mean) I can't cope with it. I think its the idea of any of you having to leave you LO in NICU/SCBU and go home and I don't want any of yu to go through that hell.

BoffinMum · 01/03/2009 11:45

I should re-read that Wolf book, not least because we have cited it in a research grant application recently.

SarahMum, it is illegal for pg women to give up chocolate in Lent, or indeed anything else other than painting their own toenails.

PuzzleRocks · 01/03/2009 11:45

Boff - I probably shouldn't be bringing it back up but it looks to me like you do have just as many supporters over there.
Stay away though!

BoffinMum · 01/03/2009 11:47

Bronze, if I knew you had a prem baby I had forgotten ... remind me how many weeks etc.

PuzzleRocks · 01/03/2009 11:47

Bronze - I am not having any sex, believe me.

PuzzleRocks · 01/03/2009 11:52

Thanks for the Furedi article Boff.

BoffinMum · 01/03/2009 11:53

Ooo, cool, Puzzle.

brettgirl2 · 01/03/2009 11:54

Puzzle - I'm glad it's not just me lol - I've found it quite painful since quite early on tbh. I've felt a bit inadequate with some of the others swinging from the lightshades!

brettgirl2 · 01/03/2009 11:56

I've got to get up now , I did nothing yesterday and DH is taking me out this afternoon (he has already booked the pub for lunch so I can't get out of it!)

PuzzleRocks · 01/03/2009 11:57

Brettgirl - Not too long to go and we'll be doing that again soon.

BoffinMum · 01/03/2009 11:57

I have to say I am not swinging from the lightshades. I tend to lie back while DH has one, so to speak. I have to shuffle back onto loads of pillows in order to achieve this, with DH going 'Beep, Beep, this lorry is reversing' and things like that. You gotta laff.

Sarahmum · 01/03/2009 11:59

Have given up chocolate, but taken up wine . After 7 months of it tasting like vinegar, I have finally the taste for it back again. Not six bottles a night obviously, but the odd glass is going down a treat.
Boffinmum - by coincidence, I also attempted to paint my toe nails this morning - quite an entertaining activity. Needless to say I shall be booking a pedicure first thing tomorrow.

tristaleejac · 01/03/2009 12:14

Hiya, just caught up, really hope springy is ok - I have to go out for afternoon but I'll be thinking of her.
I'll check back later.
Hope everyone else is fine x

BabyBolat · 01/03/2009 12:14

Puzzle - am just watching the masterchef final - how much can those 2 men fit in their mouth on one fork???

PuzzleRocks · 01/03/2009 12:16

BB - I know! Whenever I have a nice pudding DH always says to me, go on eat it like John or Greg would.

BabyBolat · 01/03/2009 12:18

The food looks nice and then I want to gag watching them eat it!!!!!

bronze · 01/03/2009 12:18

Boffin- 27+1 (+6 by mydates)

had to laugh at your reversing lorry description

I'm tiny bump wise compared to the norm but baby is going to big so everything feels sooo tight. Breathings hard let alone sex.

bronze · 01/03/2009 12:21

I can never watch it as I always get hungry

PuzzleRocks · 01/03/2009 12:22

BB - They have really manky teeth too. I'm a bit obsessed with teeth.

BabyBolat · 01/03/2009 12:26

The dark haired one reminds me of James the Cat! His tongue is too big for his mouth when he speaks, let alone eats!
