Btw there's a nct sale tomorrow morning between 10 and 12 in the "barnet Branch"
(finchley sea cadets hall), see details here

I will try an get dh to take me however its am and dh doesn't "do" am, and we're already going to the baby show so I might be pushing it.

Juicygirlpink · 27/02/2009 20:26

hi all,

Hope you are all well! I am sat in a bar in the city with dh & friends off to karoke in a min ( don't think I will be singing mind!) I will have to catch up with the posts tomorrow when I am doing nothing!!

Looouise- are you going to baby show tom or Sunday, we are going sunday- what about everyone else?

I may head to that nearly new sale in barnet ad it's only a few miles from me

Juicygirlpink · 27/02/2009 20:28

Sorry June I miss read post, are you going to baby show tom or Sunday? X

MrsMcJnr · 27/02/2009 20:44

Hi girls hope you are all well! I am feeling a lot better now though the sore chest is still here, thanks for all the good wishes. I do have two new complaints though, both pregnancy related, firstly I have a sore tooth, one of my molars feels loose and it?s because the gum has receded away from it. I?d better make an appointment with a dentist but I?ll have to go private as there are no dental benefits here that I know of unlike the UK , secondly, I am getting lots and lots of Braxton Hicks which is a bit disconcerting, never had them with DS really.

Had a bit of a frustrating day today my washing machine (or correction the washing machine in my rented apartment) stopped working on Monday and I did all I could to fix it but it didn?t work so I got an engineer out today and it?s going to cost 75 euros for a new part. Now, I know that the landlord should pay for that but it is never going to happen and we are running out of clothes!

I?ll catch up now but hoping and praying in the meantime that all is well with you Juicy xx

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 27/02/2009 20:49

Any of you going to an NCT sale get there AT LEAST an hour before it opens, you won't believe me but the queues are bizarre.....

My sis took me to my first one we were 1 and a half hours early (i thought she was crazy!)and there were still loads of people ahead of us!!!!!

That said they are good for stuff, get the map on the door and work out what you most would like and head that way first ( say moses basket, over grobag, before toys type of idea in your head) sorry if I preach to the converted but I had not been in such a bun fight in a very long time ( I still try to get to each one tho' and always come away with waaaay too much! )

Enjoy DorisX

PS Juicy am very jealous

chocciedooby · 27/02/2009 20:57

Juicy - lucky you being in a city bar!
I am still trying to get DS1 off to sleep and I am suffering awful stomach pains. Don't feel too well actually and dh is glued to the rugby
Enjoy your night.
Hope everyone else is ok.

June2009 · 27/02/2009 21:39

juicy We're going tomorrow to the babyshow, and we're not going to NCT sale in the end, it's too early, especially if the queue is over an hour, I can't make it that long without a look nearby.
Someone from here went today didn't they? How was it?

In my bounty pack there was a voucher for a free "newborn starter kit" nappies from asda but everytime I go there they've "run out of stock". I'm starting to give up on "free" stuff, all it seems to do is add me on a database that sends me tons of spam through the post and a couple of wet wipes or a tea bag once a year, oh I got a dishwasher tablet too.

mrsmcjr I'm also getting a lot of BH, almost every day.
We stopped paying the extended warranty on the appliances as it was still £150 to get the engineer to just come and have a look at it!!! You can get a new machine for that price.

tee LOL @ your waiting for the maid :D
That's got me daydreaming!

June2009 · 27/02/2009 21:41

"I can't make it that long without a loo nearby!", (not a "look")...can you tell I need some sleep

MrsMcJnr · 27/02/2009 21:43

On the subject of change bags, my sis got me a gorgeous one, looks like a leather handbag and is just stunning but although I do/did love it and used it religiously for the first 3 months I had to admit to myself after that that a drawstring sports bag was more practical and more importantly fitted under my buggy with space to spare. Maybe there will be room for it on/on the new buggy. Did I tell you all that I won the buggy I was bidding for on eBay very excited, we saved over £140

Juicy ? hope you are taking it easy, it has been a very stressful week for you, and how is the pain now?

Loooouise ? sorry to hear about the insomnia and the fainting episode I fainted on a train when I was pg with DS but luckily I was sitting down at the time. Glad you are ok Don?t think you are being unreasonable at all about not wanting the babyfather at the actual birth hon, totally understandable. I imagine that you?d like him there pretty soon afterwards though to meet your child I feel that I really lived before I got married and decided to have kids (I was 34 when I had DS) and I have to tell you that of all the fun and all the adventures I have ever had, motherhood has been the most amazing, it makes me feel that my life was pretty shallow and superficial before but I?m glad that I didn?t know that then! I have never felt any sense of loss, just incredible gain so sorry about your friend my own analysis of Control Freakery (and I have it bad!) is that because there is so much unknown in given birth you want to control the things you know you can, simple as that

Hey Tee sorry to hear about the fall, it?s so scary when it happens. Are you very black and blue? Poor you

June ? glad you enjoyed your first NCT class DH and I really enjoyed them too there were 5 couples in mine too and we are still in touch even though I have moved abroad since then. Enjoy the babyshow!

Hey there Ermintrude

Hi llynnnn

Doris ? I like your NCT sale strategy. I had a very amusing moment at one I went to when DS was about 2 months old, a friend couldn?t make it so I?d picked up some clothes from her DD too and there was a girl from my AN classes behind me in the queue giving me really funny looks because she knew I had a boy, I just told her that I dressed him as a girl for ½ of the week, you should have seen her face!

Daisy ? lovely post

BigCar ? so glad your appointment went well

Bunnymother ? don?t believe all the scary stuff you?ve read, your body will recover and much quicker than you?d imagine, I?m sure only a few DHs feel alienated or jealous; of all my friends I know of one DH like that ? the others are so incredibly proud and in awe of their women?s achievements and so proud and besotted with their offspring as for sex, well, everyone is different but I found the lack of sleep aspect of motherhood more at the beginning more of a culprit than anything physical! LOL at the spreadsheets ? we are SO alike

Littlesarah ? I worry a bit about how I?ll cope with 2 little ones too; DS takes up so much of my time but I am sure I?ll find away to look after them both I?ve started collecting a few things for the baby I must admit.

Lauraloo ? poor, poor you how awful being stuck in a lift, I hate them and would be freaking out too. Hope you are feeling much better now. Can?t believe you gave up chocolate for lent I normally do but not when pregnant!!

Hello and welcome MrsExton tell us some more about yourself? Are you having a boy?

Choccie ? glad you are feeling better from the cold but sorry to hear about the pains, hope they pass soon hope the carpet is ok too!

Ineedmore ? hope DS enjoys the new room tonight and that he is much better tomorrow

Juicygirlpink · 27/02/2009 23:45

Girls once again another day spoilt by pains, just got home had a nice night & I sang at karoke too! Pissed off with dh he doesn't seem to get the whole pg thing I was fine until about an hour ago (the rest of our friends going clubbing) I got up & the pain was back , got outside friends were asking what our plans were dh just looked at me so I had to announce we were going home. I then said it's a shame that everything is always left to me in front if everyone . The boys were exchanging glances as if to say I was being a drama queen how annoying is all that & the worst part of course is the pain. Which made walking very very hard now I don't know what to do?

Tee2072 · 28/02/2009 07:08

If it was me juicygirlpink I would go back to the hospital and stay until they tell you for sure what the heck is wrong with you. If it is something like severe SPD or the like you can get referred to a physical therapist.

daisy5 · 28/02/2009 07:13

mrsmcjnr - congrats on getting the pram. Was it an Emuljunga you were bidding for? Glad to hear your cold is better - mine too . I have heard about BH early on but it must be a bit disconcerting I just pee myself (a little) every time I cough or sneeze so have a permanent pad in my knickers. Feel like I am falling apart.

Love your NCT anecdote. What a giggle.

The only NCT sale I ever went to, I arrived at lunchtime and there was nothing there worth buying - just old clothes and dismal looking things. I thought they must be overrated, but have since discovered that the keen get there super early. Our Toddler group is having a big one in three weeks and a friend who is helping to 'sort' on the Friday night beforehand is going to 'bags' a double buggy for me if there are some there. She has my mobile number and will phone me. I am working on the Sat morning from 8 but she still thought the Friday night 'bagsing' was more reliable. I almost feel like I am cheating!!!! But apparently last year there was a double buggy for £100 and three years ago someone else got one for £40. I would take one of those foldable seats and a thermos of tea, or does that make me sound like a real old fuddy duddy!

juicy - my heart is really going out to you. The last trimester does tend to be uncomfortable and a little more painful (of the wincing kind), but it's sounds like you are in horrible pain. I'm sorry your dh isn't taking the lead, although I think it is fairly common for them not to grasp things like the kind of pain we are going through, the exhaustion of not being able to sleep properly for months on end, why their lives have to change etc etc. Maybe you could drop a brick on his foot and ask him if it's painful (just kidding)! Sounds like you have had an exhausting week - 7 hours at the hospital. I just hate A&E etc. The thought of the endless hours waaaaiiitttiinngg. It makes you feel more unwell.

choccie - you too - ouch. I hope the tummy pains ease off.

june - glad you enjoyed the class. Ours was equally about the men too, although we had one full day of just the girls which was great too. There isn't much support for the guys and they are not always the greatest in talking about their fears. Some really feel that they get lost in the background when babies come along - they love being useful and being a daddy but they feel forgotten and confused sometimes. NCT was good at getting the guys to chat.

tee and laura - sorry to hear about your nasty experiences. Tee that sounds really painful poor you. Laura - I don't mind confined spaces but 1.5 hours in an lift while pregnant would not be nice at all.

ermintrude - I love beaten up old Volvo's but know what you mean about men and cars. DP wondered what other cars the couples had and didn't park immediately outside either. I don't fully understand the car thing!

bigcar - what a difference it makes when you are happy with your birthing strategy/plan/facility etc. My midwife got very interested when I said I was thinking of a home birth and is clearly going to be quite helpful, so I was re enthuised.

bunnymother - didn't hear about Ms Moneygrabbing Smith's latest announcement re: work permits. I was here seven years before I got my passport. It probably is a popular kind of announcement in times of a recession, but is it something they would really follow through on - as some industries are fairly dependent on 'highly skilled foreigners' and it can take years to train up replacements.

I have just booked tickets to a Simple Minds concert on 21 July. I can't decide if I am insane or brilliant. Thankfully our babysitter is a neonatal nurse (daytime job). Last time I didn't go out until DD was almost 3 months old. DP is over the moon though and says a night of loud music as opposed to be loud crying might be what we need at that time.

Tee2072 · 28/02/2009 13:12

Morning girls!

daisy I think a Simple Minds concert sounds brilliant! Especially as you already have a babysitter you can count on!

bunnymother wait, not everyone has spreadsheets of what to buy and what it costs? How else do you plan a wedding/what to buy for baby/a trip?!?!?

I think I have found our cot. It is this one although I am going to go back to Mamas and Papas and Mothercare, just to see their again!

I am still very sore from Thursday's fall. The baby has been very active, so I'm not worried about that any more!

Hey ladies after a very sad morning I am now having a lovely peaceful lunch alone DH decided to stay in bed until 12.30 and let me do all the morning routine with DS alone plus go to the market for about 5kgs of veg to lug home in the rain whilst DS was sleeping I was in tears when I got home as felt that no one is looking after me. He didn't see my tears but I have not looked at him yet today, he must have got the message as he has taken DS to soft play alone

Daisy - yes it's an Emmaljunga, good luck with getting a double at the sale!!

Ladies with aches, pains and worries - big steaming cups of hot chocolate and giant bars of Galaxy for you all xx

MrsMcJnr · 28/02/2009 16:15

Hey there, a kind MNetter posted a 25% off code for the Tommee Tippee website the code is WB02. I've just ordered some of their anti colic bottles for my baby along with some soothers - you never know, I needed them with DS (still do) happy shopping!

Tee2072 · 28/02/2009 18:08

Thanks for that mrsmcj!! I've ordered the breastfeeding starter kit and the nappy bin starter kit.

Was a bit nerve racking, actually! I haven't really bought anything for the baby, except for a few pieces of clothing!!

OP posts:
June2009 · 28/02/2009 18:35

hey mrsmcjr I feel like that sometimes too, hope you're feeling better now.
It's hard to know when I'm reasonably expecting help or just being hormonal and paranoid.

We went to the babyshow and got me a slider/recliner chair .
Nothing for the baby .

There was quite a lot of people there, dh compared it to leaving a football match but with half of the people pregnant

I think we probably would have bought a cot and a moses basket and maybe more bits and bobs if they'd had enough staff there. It was a bit frustrating.
We got a couple of freebies (haha, tea bags and washing powder! Nothing exciting.)

Some good prices on stuff though.
Watching loads of pregnant women buying loads of stuff like they really knew what they wanted/needed made me feel a little inadequate for some reason.
Too much choice makes it more difficult to actually choose something.
They had loads of really lovely expensive cots and prams that we can't afford

tee I was looking at the ikea cot and also saw one on the john lewis website you might like: (I like the price and it's got side drop thingies which I need cause I'm short :D)[http://www.johnlewis.com/230209650/Product.aspx here]

We might go to the shopping centre tomorrow and have a walk around...

Tee2072 · 28/02/2009 20:02

That is a nice cot, but I don't have a John Lewis in NI and I am not feeling comfortable buying a cot I haven't shaken with my own hands .

I'm short as well, but I think in the top mattress position, that won't be too much of an issue!

Juicygirlpink · 28/02/2009 20:17

Hi all,

at last I get a chance for a mn update, it's been killing me all day as our tv & computer has been down thanks to virgin media! so pain update- spoke to my mum & updated her with what has been going on (have been leaving her alone lately as she has been so busy & stressed out tending to my grandparents since they moved) she sounded really cross with the situation & basically said to take paracetamol & to keep going back until 'they' do find out what is wrong with me! She said she is so stressed out with g'parents that she can't even think about enjoying the baby which makes me really sad for her as we have the best relationship & I know she would want to be cooing & shopping all the way with me. It's very sad as we have all done our best for my g'parents but they just aren't happy & there isn;t much more we can do . On the bright side she is going to take me to harrods for lunch on the 16th & to rigby & peller for some 'posh' maternity bras as my knockers seemed to have exploded in the last few days! It will be great to see her as I used to see her every week but unfortunately the journey is getting a bit much for me & she needs to rest on the days that she isnt dealing with her parents. We will have also had our 3d scan by then so will be so exiciting to show her the pics!!! I have spent the day watching satc dvd as dh was at footy - very relaxing, the pain is still there but subsiding with the drugs!

So at last I get to be up to date with our post!

June- so you had a succesfull day at the show (don;t worry about not getting stuff for little one , these places can be overwhelming - i remember when we went to the wedding show full of crazy brides all seemed to know what they were doing- I bought nothing!). Your chair is going to be useful, how did dh find the day? Was there good food there thats how I persuade him to go to these affairs! There are always going to be people that seem to know what they doing & thats great but me, I won't ever be one of them! , did you drive there? what time did you get there? I am anxious about parking- don;t want to be waddling further than needs to!

Tee- hope you are feeling less bruised today? Did you manage to relax yesterday? Thanks for your advice with my 'mystery ilness'

mrsm- I feel that way too some times (all though not with a dc as this is our first) more that it would be nice to be helped out without asking sometimes. Well done for not loosing it I say as June said you never know whether it's hormones or anger at the moment too which is very annoying! COngrats on the pram also! It's so exciting I cant wait to see ours in the flesh, its at my parents! You bid for it on e-bay right? 10/10! I am happy with e-bay today as I managed to sell my Tina turner tickets & wii rock band which now pays for our trip to Paris on saturday!

daisy- i told my mum that one of my mn pals told me to drop a brick on dh foot - she found it hilarious! You are right that men sometimes are not 'tuned in' to our thoughts & feelings , dh heard me on the phone to my mum this am when I was in tears re-living the whole thing & came running in with a tissue (very unlike him) so i think he is forgiven now . Simple minds will be fab! & something for you to look forward to that isn;t baby involved- great that you have a reliable sitter to! My cleaner is a nanny (looks after 10 week old twins & a girl of 18 months every afternoon) I keep reminding dh to be extra nice to her as we may need her for extra duties in the up-coming months! (poor woman doesn't get a cup of t off dh!) we have two weddings in august, the 1st & the 22nd, 22nd is fine because we are only invited from 4pm & dc can come but the one on the 1st I may not go as they have said you cant bring babes even though we are only invited for the pm!!!- what a cheek!

Hi to everyone & big hugs for all the support over the last week ! x x

daisy5 · 28/02/2009 20:58

tee - yup, concert does sound great. The only problem is how amazingly hard it is tearing yourself away from them when they are teeny tiny. It is like the umbilical cord is still there, invisibly. But dp is excited and I will force myself not to check my text messages every few minutes. Your cot looks great.

juicy - glad I made you mum giggle, and that was sweet of your dh. It's tough when things aren't right, because you have no idea whether it will get worse or better or how long it will last for, let alone what it is. But it sounds like you are doing all the right things. Feel for you with your grandparent problems, it does sound like your mother is doing her best. What a great person you have as your cleaner - how handy is that. My dh doesn't bend over backwards for our babysitter either and I don't know how to spell out more clearly that we are the luckiest people in the world to have a 'fully trained neonatal nurse with 20yrs experience' as our babysitter who happens to want extra cash at the moment. He just thinks her hair looks funny!!!!

june - I treated the Baby Show as a fact finding mission. Just looking at everything and anything, then going away mulling it over, looking at webchats re: products I wasn't sure of and then finally deciding. We bought almost everything from one shop and got a good discount, so saved money that way. So I think you did the right thing. btw recliner chair is my current 'lust over' item so am envious.

mrsmcjnr - you have had a difficult month haven't you. I'm not surprised you are feeling it's all too much and am sure you didn't need to be abandoned this morning. Big hugs to you mrsmc.

Right I'm off to bed.

June2009 · 28/02/2009 21:34

juicy parking was surprisingly easy, and close by (and free).
We went via Beckton and followed the signs to the babyshow. (east entrance iirc.)

U just drive there and get dirctly to the car park, there's ppl telling you where to park and how to get to the show, 3 minutes -waddle- walk.

I saw a couple of drinks/cafes inside the show, we came out to "the boulevard" where they sort out your entrance tickets and we had a burger in what they call the upper boulevard (I wouldn't particularly recommend it but it didn't make us sick.)
In this "boulevard" though they have a couple of coffee places (costa etc), french baguettes that looked yummy, a place that does pizza, pasta, toasted paninis, it looks all right, there's a pie place as well and others that I can't remember.
The middle bit was too busy to sit down but the food stalls at each end are all right.

There wasn't as many people as I have seen before in excel, it was really all right, especially before lunch, it was starting to get busy after, still not terrible though!
Can't wait for my chair to come in just over a week. you'll see them in Tutty Bambini.

Have a good time :D

We've got ppl round for late lunch tomorrow, it was only gonna be the usual 5 and now there's 9 of us...should be fun!
Hopefully nice enough to have bbq and keep it simple.

Tee2072 · 01/03/2009 08:21

Good morning!

I am very at the baby show goers. We have nothing like that here at all.

Has anyone's DH or children felt the baby move yet? I swear, I'll look down see the kick, call DH over and the kid will lie still! DH is beginning to think the baby is scared of him or something!

OP posts:
June2009 · 01/03/2009 09:35

Tee dh has felt the baby a few times, though sometimes he'll look at me and say "was that it?" and I didn't even feel a kick.

Have you tried putting some music on? My lo seems to have a boogie when there's music on :D

chocciedooby · 01/03/2009 09:49

Hi ladies
Hope you are all having a nice weekend.
Don't think I would be up to the babyshow (if I was in uk) as I am struggling with standing and walking for long periods of time).

Did my first aqua natal class yesterday morning. It was excellent and so relaxing but now my back is playing up again. It seems that every little bit of exercise I do upsets my system or something. I explained to the instructor that I have suffered from a rotated pelvis and she has advised me to go and see a physio that specialises in pregnancy problems.

My tummy ache was awful the other night.Had awful diahrria again and was concerned that this seems to come and go every 4 or 5 days. I think it must be related to the colds I have been getting and being run down. I am with you all on DH's not "getting" the whole pregnancy thing. My DH says I am like the boy that cried wolf and that I am always complaining about something or another.I am so frustrated....I am pregnant for goodness sake!!!!aaaarrrrhhhhh.

DS1 had his first day at soccer academy yesterday morning and we all went along for support and fun. We had been there 5 mins and dh couldn't wait to leave to run off to the pub for the rugby match. So there I was standing in the freezing cold feeling like my inners were coming out! My mum was furious when I told her and could not understand why dh was not there!?

To top it all dh came home at 4am this morning and I had to get up with the kids at 8am!He is still in bed.

Ok - sorry for the rant and moan. I just had to get all of that off my chest!!!

June2009 · 01/03/2009 09:50

Btw, for he first timers here who really haven't got a clue about the first days/weeks after birth, have you checked out the postnatal threads in "being a parent" (hehe, moving up in the world :D)?
Seems some threads from the ante-natal carry on there with also tips on how to cope etc.

I guess the first one who gives birth in our June group has the responsability of starting that thread and we can all keep in touch!
(well at least it looks like some of them managed to fit it in between diapers and feeds.)
