Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm not a 'pink' girl either and always opted for blues.

My sister (the one with 4 little ones) told everyone when she had the last that she wanted no toys, she'd much rather have books and art supplies...she still gets toys, but not half as many as she did with the first

BoffinMum · 18/02/2009 17:11

Too small a world. I only ever give stuff away online that would narrow me down to the nearest 2 dozen women like me. But email me at boffinmum at hotmail dot co dot uk if you like.

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 18/02/2009 17:14

Ooh look at all you handy ladies with your DIY tips... I must admit, I can't WAIT to move into our own place so I can do whatever i want in terms of tiles and paint choices! Hooray! (not that we've found a house to buy yet... so we're stuck in this flat a little longer... )

LOVING the idea of a post-baby meet - whether its Cambridge or Richmond I'm there like a bear! (Would prefer the latter as I'm in Surrey too... [cheeky ]

BoffinMum · 18/02/2009 17:19

On the 'other' thread I appear to have just composted myself. How did that happen???

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 18/02/2009 17:20

BTW, we had our latest NCT antenatal class yesterday and learnt all about LOCHIA. The hubbys' faces when they heard it will last up to 6 weeks... The good news is that Sainsbury's are giving 50% off their own brand maternity pads, so I'm off there tomorrow to buy at least 20 packs...

Anyone else found fab bargains for essentials? I'm still looking for a pretty, comfy nursing bra if anyone has any suggestions (other than Hotmilk which I would loooooove but can't afford!)

LuLuBai · 18/02/2009 17:22

Bleu - that is encouraging about your sister. DDs Christmas list was mainly art stuff and I often buy craft kits for friends kids.

It's a really difficult line to tread because people have been soooo incredibly generous with DD and I have to seem ungrateful by saying "thank-you but no more stuff please" but really we have plenty of stuff (and a very small house). It's more useful buying stuff for DD as at least that can be handed down to the younger sibling and get more use but even then there is a limit to how much we can have.

LuLuBai · 18/02/2009 17:25

Ha ha ha boffin - I would happily compost myself.

Kitty - yes the lochia lasts for ages. Get plenty of maternity pads. Really - lots!

And drat - drove past a huge Sainbury's earlier today (our local one is too small and rural to have a maternity range - I actually saw someone ride their horse into the carpark the other day - that's how rural!)

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 18/02/2009 17:29

Ha ha ha Lulu... PMSL at the thought of a special section in the car park for horses...

bronze · 18/02/2009 17:31

ahhh stuff. I can understand how your sister feels. I have it til its coming out my ears.

I've got all my baby boy stuff out of the attic. Haven't seen it for 4 years. It looks tiny. Also got all the baby girl stuff out so I can freecycle it. Hopefully I'll have some space up there to dump some of the other stuff we have instead.

ps dds room is green

LuLuBai · 18/02/2009 17:37

Kitty - unfortunately I was just leaving but I did nearly double back just to see where she 'parked' the horse. There is a small spafe just outside the door for tying dogs, but surely not there!!! Was dying to know. Also I couldn't see any saddle bags so not sure how she planned to get her shopping home.

PuzzleRocks · 18/02/2009 17:42

Re pink, everyone was told in no uncertain terms before DD was born that we did not want pink or frilly stuff. Everyone was really good about it except DH's brother (well actually his very girly girlfriend who does the shopping). They must have noticed that she never wears anything they have bought (except a dark pink raincoat which was quite nice) because they said at Christmas "What should we get her because we always get the wrong clothes don't we?"

PuzzleRocks · 18/02/2009 17:43

Bronze - We dug out DD's old stuff last week. Even DH got quite soppy.

PuzzleRocks · 18/02/2009 17:45

There's a tiny pub near my friend's house where people can often be seen having a pint on horseback.

PuzzleRocks · 18/02/2009 17:45

Lulu perhaps she was going to tether the trolley to the horses rear.

LuLuBai · 18/02/2009 17:49

Well that makes sense Puzzle. Ime if you are going to drink and ride it makes sense to stay on the horse. Can be tricky to get back on after a pint

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 18/02/2009 17:50

Puzzle - a pint on horseback??? Sounds like a better plan than drunk-driving to me... at least your horse can find its way home itself!

I've just got off the phone with my Gran from Cape Town - she was planning to surprise me with a post-birth visit but can't get on a flight!! What a pity - 'twould have been brill to see her... and to introduce her first Great-Grand-Child!

Sweet thought nevertheless...

PuzzleRocks · 18/02/2009 17:51

It did make me wonder if the law covers being drunk in charge of a horse?

Oh Kitty, thats a shame.

bronze · 18/02/2009 17:54

1872 Licensing Act states that it is an offence to be 'drunk while in charge on any highway or other public place, of any carriage, horse or steam engine'.

LuLuBai · 18/02/2009 17:54

Aaw - Puzzle, I feel for your in laws and the 'wrong clothes'. I do try my hardest to put DD in clothes that have been bought for her by people we are going to see but there have been a few outfits I could barely bring myself to put her in. My mother is actually quite a bad offender. She bought her all these frou-frou dresses with netting petticoats and stuff underneath when she was born. Completely OTT and impractical.

Ironically the best clothes she had as a newborn were from DH's godparens in Oz and they never got to see her in them. They were fabulous zingy sunshiny colours. Not a pastel in sight.

LuLuBai · 18/02/2009 17:55

Yup Bronze - you got there before me. Tis illegal to drink & ride.

In fact some bloke was arrested recently.

LuLuBai · 18/02/2009 17:58

here is the story

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/02/2009 18:07

LuLu & Puzzle - suprise suprise my mil is terrible for the truly ghastly stuff (goes straight to the charity shop after a sensible period of time as do other offending gifts, i do have to mentally keep telling myself that at least they will go to somebody who actually wants them and it helps charity at the same time rather than it just being me just being ungrateful ) Frou Frou makes me shiver uggghhh.

Kitty shame about your gran there like a bear love it!

BoffinMum · 18/02/2009 18:17

So goats are OK then? I could be drunk in charge of a goat? Or Nutty in charge of a sheep??

Someone got a speeding fine in Richmond Park once on a horse (30 mph limit) but it was then pointed out you would need a thoroughbred racehorse to go flat out to achieve anything like that kind of speed.

I am baffled as to how they measured it. I mean, did the policeman use one of those speed gun things? Would they work on horses?

LuLuBai · 18/02/2009 18:24

Quite feasible that they would have had a speed gun. One of the most common spots for speed checking in the park is also right by a very long straight gallop.

But you would really have to put some effort into it to get to 30mph!!!

I was actually galloping pretty fast on a horse through Richmond Park a while back. Or so I thought until 2 wheelchair users overtook me, calling out "good morning" cheerily as they passed by and disappeared into the horizon.

BoffinMum · 18/02/2009 18:26

Actually it may be 20 mph in Richmond Park. Does anyone remember?

Thing is, you have no speedo on a horse so how are you supposed to know what speed you are doing? TomTom?
