Life Before Birth - Tonight - A must see!

Hey everyone,

For your information:

Tonight (Thursday) at 9pm - 11.10pm

Here's an ambitious film, a poetic account of life inside the womb from the point of view of a growing baby. As we follow the course of a pregnancy from a cloud of hopeful sperm all the way to the drama of labour, Roger McGough reads mini-poems for each stage, and a second voiceover delivers amazing facts on foetal development. The poetry and narration dovetail nicely, but it's the images that make this so special - a foetus squidging its nose, or trampolining around the uterus, or hiccupping. Which of these moments are achieved by special effects - a mixture of models and computer-generated imagery - and which are real, taken by uterine cameras, becomes impossible to tell, and it hardly matters when the story is so well told. What must be genuine are the amazing ultrasound scans of a foetus looking as if it were made of mud, wriggling and grimacing in real time, and a pair of twins jostling each other in the womb. It's captivating stuff.

Has anyone got a copy of "Life Before Birth" with poetry by Roger McGough. My friend is now expecting and I think she'd really enjoy it. I've already got "in the womb", but I really like thepoetry version...

To all of you mums and papas who want to get their hands on the Channel 4 Life before Birth dvd with the poetic commentary from British poet Roger McGough.

Pioneer productions produced the piece and Rocket Rights hold the dvd rights to this documentary. I have written to Pioneer to ask about the Channel 4 version and they referred me to rocket rights who replied saying that it is not commercially available. They refer me to the International version, In the womb, which does not have the McGough narration.

While they did not specify why they have not released the C4 version they did confirm that they 'had had very few enquiries for the C4 version over time'.

In addition, I also contacted C4 to see if when they would be airing the Life before Birth version again and they have no current plans to air it.

Conclusion, if anyone really wants to get their hands on this dvd, and I do, then I suggest we all write in to rocket rights to request they consider selling it to us!

For Rocketrights, see www.rocketrights.com/Contact Us.

I'm going to write to rocketrights now to request they re-consider selling the C4 version.
