Life Before Birth - Tonight - A must see!

Hey everyone,

For your information:

Tonight (Thursday) at 9pm - 11.10pm

Here's an ambitious film, a poetic account of life inside the womb from the point of view of a growing baby. As we follow the course of a pregnancy from a cloud of hopeful sperm all the way to the drama of labour, Roger McGough reads mini-poems for each stage, and a second voiceover delivers amazing facts on foetal development. The poetry and narration dovetail nicely, but it's the images that make this so special - a foetus squidging its nose, or trampolining around the uterus, or hiccupping. Which of these moments are achieved by special effects - a mixture of models and computer-generated imagery - and which are real, taken by uterine cameras, becomes impossible to tell, and it hardly matters when the story is so well told. What must be genuine are the amazing ultrasound scans of a foetus looking as if it were made of mud, wriggling and grimacing in real time, and a pair of twins jostling each other in the womb. It's captivating stuff.

My e-mail is; [email protected]

Can someone please get in touch!!!

trix1 · 08/12/2005 19:17

Hello - I sent my only copies on to two other mumsnetters. I dont know if they still have them but I would like a copy now please as I have just found out I am pregnant. I did watch it at the time but it would have more relevance now.

FoxyLady99 · 16/12/2005 17:14

Hi no one has get in touch with me so far, but as soon as they do I will let you know.

inthewomb · 09/03/2006 13:11

DVD of In the Womb available from www.rocketrights.com

debdebs · 22/04/2006 20:23

OK. I've waited a year for this programme to come back on. I phoned Channel 4 and begged them to repeat it. I bought the In The Womb and was disatisfied by it (it lacks the serene poetry and has a VERY American feel to it), and now I've switched on the TV to find it on C4, half way through.

Someone somewhere must be taping it on DVD. I'm so wound up I can't get myself to watch the remaining half! Sad

Please send me a copy, I'll pay for it.

My email address is debbie(at)thesalemlot.com

Please replace (at) with @

Many Thanks

Debbie

Hi,

Just been watching "Life Before Birth". Absolutely amazing. Except... Didn't realise it was on and only caught the last 1/2 hour :( Even then I was welling up Blush as my wife is 7 months gone to child No. 2 so can relate to this.

I'd love to be able to use some of this in my science classes as it's the most exceptional material I've seen on the subject of pregnancy and would really capture the kids attention.

If the "In the womb" was not as good as the "Life before birth" I won't buy the former (I was looking forward to getting the latter but it's not available).

However, again, could I ask some kind person who copied this on DVD to please contact me and let me have a copy (I'll pay you for your time / media and postage)? My email address is matt(usual @ symbol)matt.dev.va.ifl.net

Many thanks and Channel 4 (or whoever owns the rights) ... bring it out on DVD and I'll be one of the first to purchase this exceptional film...

Matt

My mum bought me the DVD online at rocketrights.com, it is fantastic! It is called 'In the Womb' and is exactly the same without the poetry bits. You can select your week and dip in and out depending on where you are within your pregnancy. Hubbie loves it, had his full attention for at least 10 minutes!

charlotteevehubbard · 23/04/2006 18:59

HI, I too missed this and would love a copy if any one has one. i too don't mind paying for it. my e-mail is charlotte.hubbard at downland.co.uk please replace the at for @.
Thanks

Hi,
Im new to mumsnet but am hoping for (what sounds like alot of you!) a copy of "Life before birth" that was on channel 4 last night. Im 28 weeks pregnant with twins and in the mist of decorating the bathroom flicked the tv on to find that wonderful programme BUT missed half of it. I would dearly appreciate anyone contacting me who has a copy as it would be great to see it again. Please help, i would pay for a copy quite happily.

Thank You.
Nix

jam28472 · 24/04/2006 00:19

Hello Everyone,

It seems I wasn't the only one who wanted to get a copy of "Life Before Birth". I like some of you only found it while looking for something to watch on the tv and didn't have time to get a disc and format and record it and I must admit, knowing I can't get hold of it - am now a bit gutted.
I would be grateful if anyone who taped it on saturday night could get in touch and maybe purchase a copy from them.
I am nearly eight weeks pregnant and it was facinating seeing what my baby is going through.
If you can help me please email me @ [email protected]

Many thanx

Julie

nicky1575 · 24/04/2006 10:42

Sheru · 24/04/2006 15:37

My rant is pretty much the same as the rest. If anyone has a copy of Life Before Birth, I'd really appreciate you getting in touch. Would of course be willing to pay for the video/dvd/postage etc. My email is [email protected]

Thanks!

inthewomb · 24/04/2006 16:36

Grin the DVD is available from www.rocketrights.com. It fab - has menu's so you can drop in and out of it in much the same way as a book and follow your pregnancy all the way through. Great for all the family. Melanie123 is right - it doesn't have the poetry and consequently is more informative than the C4 film. Voice over is british - same as the Channel 4 one.

bubbly1973 · 24/04/2006 22:34

i know this is in no way like the programme on tele, but bbc (link below) will show you the stages of pregnancy in video, which is better than nothing i guess...hope it helps

Esmummy · 27/04/2006 09:55

Does anyone know if this is being repeated ?

mom2b · 16/10/2006 18:42

Hi,

So excited! I'm 6 weeks pregnant!!! Can anyone please send me a copy of the C4 film 'Life Before Birth'? Saw it on TV before I was pregnant and thought it was brilliant! Now I'm pregnant would really love to see it again! Willing to pay. Thanks.

stars1976 · 08/08/2007 17:35

damn i missed life before birth. i know it is said in the womb is the same with out the poetry does ne one know where i can get it from like it is on the tv?

bettyboo07 · 24/09/2007 19:05

This may be a long shot but wondered if anyone still has a copy of "Life before Birth"?? I know requests were in 2006 but I am desperate to get a copy now too.... I have just taped over "by mistake" my sister in laws copy which she treasures for child education purposes and am in a panic trying to find a copy to replace it.

I have managed to find out through Channel 4 that I can get a DVD copy but it costs a fortune £200!! and thought before I have to go down this route you may of had some luck tracking down one. I don't mind paying for it or supplying the DVD/Tape plus P&P, but am getting a bit desperate now as she keeps asking me about it and I never got to watch more than the first 15 mins!
Thanks for all help

danny123321 · 03/11/2007 14:28

Can anyone help me, ive just found out that im pregnant again and would love to watch "Life before Birth" as i missed the original screening. I've been begging Channel4 to repeat it, but am getting nowhere. I would be extreamly grateful to anyone who could do me a copy on DVD and of course be willing to pay. If any of you can come to my rescue my email address is [email protected].
Thanks

turtle23 · 05/11/2007 12:10

Is it this one? $25 isn't much...Also, if you were so inclined you might try entering something like Life Before Birth+torrent into google and you might be able to download it illegally if you were wanting to do something so silly.

turtle23 · 05/11/2007 12:14

just noticed it says wont ship outside US, but I'm sure somebody must know somebody. xx

violeta · 05/11/2007 13:10

Is it this one? I don't know if it's the same programme?

www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/miracle/program.html

You can watch the whole thing online.

Otherwise, seems as if you can get it here in the UK on DVD:
www.rocketrights.com/

It's called 'In the womb' and seems to be £15.99.

violeta · 05/11/2007 13:15

Duh, just read through the thread and realised that this is the American version without the poetry. Sorry about that!
