WaitingGirl - this is your first right? Frist babies engage really early. DD was 2/5 engaged from 29 weeks, 3/5 by 33 weeks and then stayed at 3/5 'til 38 weeks when she came. Did she mentioned what proportion engaged your baby is.

LadyT - I am fascinated by your "poncetastic" name. Are we talking truly poncesom or just a bit posh?

artichokes · 14/10/2008 17:26

Sorry WG I should have added that she only came at 38 weeks because I was induced. So she was enaged for 9 weeks and never showed any signs of coming out on her own.

PinguRocks · 14/10/2008 17:29

LadyT - hang on in there with the driving, it will get better I promise. I learned to drive at the tender age of 17 (but was rubbish and it seriously took forever, I must have had about 100 lessons - I was so bad I had to practice steering with a dinner plate!) and I can still remember all these years later how hard it was. On the plus side, once you've done it seriously sticks - I've only just got a car again after 8 years and it's not been that difficult to get back in the swing of things....

To everyone else - sorry but I'm just not capable of doing the epic catch ups that some of you ladies do so well. Hope everyone with aches, pains and traumas is feeling better and on the plus side, for those of us at work, at least it's nearly home time!

LadyThompson · 14/10/2008 17:29

Ha. I think it's a bit of an eyeroller, Arti, though I don't know many babies so it could well be nothing of the sort (thinking about it, in my bit of London there's probably far worse). My mother will have her head in her hands though. I am quite looking forward to it . But, you know, I LIKE IT, so...

LadyThompson · 14/10/2008 17:32

Thanks Pingu, though I should add I must be SERIOUSLY hopeless as tonight's homework is...practising with a plate

Ah well. I've got bandages on my wrists as well so I look INSANE whizzing a plate around.

PinguRocks · 14/10/2008 17:36

oooops . Maybe we're no worse than anyone else then!

LadyThompson · 14/10/2008 17:41

Well, judging from what I have seen over the last few days, the good citizens of London have very little indeed to boast about in the driving stakes, so I really mustn't be THAT hard on myself. But will I feel safe with a newborn in the back, assuming I do pass my test? Er.......helas, no.

SummerLightning · 14/10/2008 17:44

reban sorry to hear about your stress out. I am sure you will find it not as hard as you are fearing (though still hard going!) Make sure you take it easy, demand seats on the train, and get your other half to look after you/help out with the kids! I am finishing at 38 weeks and due around the same time as you so apart from the last week we will probably be two of the last still working so we will be able to moan together

ladyt good luck with the driving, I am sure you are not as bad as you think! It took me ages to learn, and 4 times to pass, but I am sure being a bit older and worldly wise will give you a bit of common/road sense that I never had! Am also intrigued by the poncetastic name .

veggie yes my MIL is a bit of a stereotype! she just talks non-stop and doesn't think about most of what comes out of her gob but she is quite good fun! Another thing that amuses me is she is always going on about how early DH talked/walked, & how amazing he was as a child. I made a comment "so when did you start doing quadratic equations, were you doing them by 2?", DH gave me a death stare, but she didn't notice!

kayz phew about your son. Am sure instincts would've kicked in if DH hadn't been there.

wg I have no idea about the engaging thing, but I am sure if it was likely to come early midwife would have warned you?!

I just went to the midwife and brought up possible homebirth and she was positive and said that she would advise me to do it!! I also asked if the MLU would be open over Christmas and she said "hmmmm..." so don't think she can guarantee it. So am seriously considering it now!! Must do some investigating. jumpjockey I may pick your brains after yoga tomorrow! Only vague problem could be that my bp is a little high but to be honest it's lower than it's ever been as I tend to get high BP anyway. Also I think cycling to the doctors makes it higher as the one time I didn't it was loads lower!

SummerLightning · 14/10/2008 17:46

ohhhh ladyT i wanna know the poncey name now?
Crispin? Tarquin? Quentin?

Veggiemummy · 14/10/2008 17:50

lt in my first exam i was told to go back to the base 5 mins into the exam because i had already failed, it was supposed to last for 30mins. I passed the 2nd go thank goodness, and have worked for many years as a community nurse so driving must be ok. DH on the other hand passed 1st go and is by far the worst driver i have ever come accross, he is excellent at anything else he turns his hand to but he is really bad at driving. so if it doens't happen first go don't worry.

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 14/10/2008 17:50

SL, it's a girl. Now that really WOULD be something if I called a girl Crispin, Tarquin or Quentin Now, no more guessing! I will just say it's been around since Roman times and leave it at that

JamInMyWellies · 14/10/2008 17:52

Bloody nora WG no idea what that means why dont you give the modwifes a call just to clarufy.

Lady T Poppy is one of my favourite names if we have a girl just have to persuade DP I also really like Iris.

Kayz how did you get on with the housing officer?

Reban breathe my love take it easy and that goes for everyone else who is in stressy situations at the mo.

Am turning onto a total yoga freak next I will have us all chanting ohms and massaging each other.

LadyThompson · 14/10/2008 17:54

Thanks Veggie. But if I fail I will be so, so supersonically ANNOOOOOOOOOOOOOYED, not least because time is of the essence,l a mere 6 wks to B-day. If I move to that village where the buses turn up when there's an R in the month and the moon is blue, with a newborn babe, not knowing a soul and in the dark days of winter, I will go quite flamboyantly nutty, I'm sure of it.

SummerLightning · 14/10/2008 17:54

ladyt tee hee, silly me!!! I shall wait til she arrives then to find out (zips gob shut)
PS I failed one of my driving tests for putting it in reverse gear and reversing DOWN the hill on my hill start! How I did that I do not know

LadyThompson · 14/10/2008 17:56

Thanks Jam. Yeah, I hope DP plumps for Poppy too as I know it's my Mum's favourite name and it will compensate for the first name which I know she will hate. Iris is such a pretty name too.

kayzisexpecting · 14/10/2008 18:34

WE HAVE THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!

We are getting the keys Monday.
It has a large living room, a kitchen diner so I can have a table, a nice bathroom. There are 3 bedrooms but one is very small. It also has built in wardrobes. DS's room is bright pink and purple so needs a lick of paint but its not very urgent.

I am so happy now. I'm so excited!!!

Kimberly1979 · 14/10/2008 18:34

LadyT You are much braver than I. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.
I am absolutely petrified to drive here. In the US I drove everywhere, but there aren't as many signs, cameras or rules. Plus, being that I'm so short I have a hard time reaching the clutch to change gears.

Kimberly1979 · 14/10/2008 18:37

Kayz YEA!!!! You got a house! I'm so excited for you!!! It sounds lovely!

EnchantedWithEdwardCullen · 14/10/2008 18:50

Is anyone else freaking that in just 2 Weeks time it will be NOVEMEBER ....then our babies are due NEXT MONTH????

kayzisexpecting · 14/10/2008 18:52

OMG!!!!!!!! You are right!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!

Veggiemummy · 14/10/2008 19:00

Kayz hooray, that is great news well done, so glad they have told you, you get on with sorting moving etc. Do they help you move?

OP posts:
JamInMyWellies · 14/10/2008 19:50

Fantastic news Kayz.

LadyT it took me 5 attempts to pass my test I failed everytime on reverse round a corner. You never know when you move to the village you might suddenly become an earth mother who spends all day baking and wearing a pinny.

Enchanted NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO am not organised enough for it to be November soon.

I turned into the embodiment of a Boden catalogue today. Took DS and the hound out for a tramp round the fields. In a wrap dress floaty cardigan and Hunter wellies with the dog trotting alongside my phil & teds. Was just waiting for Jonnie Boden to pop out of a rabbit hole and snap a photo.

Kimberly1979 · 14/10/2008 20:20

Do any of you ladies know where I can get Iron EPA tablets? I was told to go to a health food shop but when I went they had no idea what I was talking about. So I went to a regular chemist and they told me they had heard of it but didn't know what the EPA meant. I called the midwives back and asked them and they told me the EPA was a different formula for better/easier absorption and told me to try Holland & Barrett. I just looked online and they don't have anything listed. I'm starting to get frustrated and feel like the "stupid american".

And no I can't believe it's almost November!!! I looked at the calendar the other day and had a moment of panic about not having everything together yet.

Veggiemummy · 14/10/2008 20:37

now settle down it is only the middle of october.

reverse around a corner, is that a part of the test over here, isn't it a bit dangerous to reverse around a corner what if someone is coming around the corner.

I have never heard of iron EPA tablets, Floradix is good easy on the tummy.
