Re: names, we have a boy's name picked, but not telling anyone yet in case they object! Have even managed to decide on middle names pretty much. DS has 3 names so we thought we'd better go for another three, which is much harder than two. DH has finally dropped the idea of Jocelyn (for a boy ) and Bruce so I'm pleased . We wouldn;t let me have Aubrey which I think is lovely as a middle name so we're all square. Arti: I think Hester/Esther is lovely, classic but not too popular. I really like Sophia as well, I know a Sophia who is great.

SummerLightning · 14/10/2008 11:38

hi all, re names, me and DH basically got a bollocking from the MIL at the weekend as we haven't chosen a name yet. We have a few lined up but we weren't telling her as she will basically then tell us which one she wants out of them!! And then we will feel we have to go with that.

We have 3 main names, but one is more unusual than the others (but still pretty normal I think!) and everyone except us doesn't like the unusual one! So we are no longer telling people

Beans33 · 14/10/2008 11:46

Thanks Veggie - that's great advice. We both know we're rubbish at communication, so both want to try it more. I just find I get so tongue-tied and can't say what I want to. Which is strange, because if I wrote it down it would be easy!

JamInMyWellies · 14/10/2008 11:50

Hi everyone,

still no idea for girls names, got our boys names sorted we like Noah or Lachlan.

Chutney your poor DD hope she feels better soon.

Good luck veggie I sometimes find that when DP is away things run much more smoothly at home as I am normally way more organised than when he is home.

jumpjockey · 14/10/2008 11:57

No idea about names yet alas - as far as we've got is if it's a boy he has James as a middle name (traditional in H's family for the first son, plus it was my grandad's name) and if it's a girl she'll have my mum's name as a middle name - but not sure whether to go for her first name or maiden name, they're both very pretty.

Veggiemummy · 14/10/2008 12:30

i really like Noah, as there is an australian actor called Noah Taylor, it was one i thought of too but doesn't go with surname.

Jam i do sometimes find that too, i also for some reason cope better when he is away for a longer time than just a couple of days. It's like i just get into a rhythm and don't really count down to when he is coming back but when he is away a couple of days for some reason it seems harder. However, poor DS is already talking about missing his dad, he keeps trying to get me to carry hm downstairs on my back or hold him upside down and swing him around like his dad does. i keep telling him i am already carrying around one son can't do another.

SL i can't believe your MIL is being so cheeky, just tell her you have decided on Gertrude for a girl and Horatio for a boy.

OP posts:
Beans33 · 14/10/2008 12:35

I used to go out with a real hunk called Noah yum - but he was a bit boring. I didn't really care as he looked good enough to eat - it only lasted 3 months, but it was such fun (he was into tantric sex - don't really know what it is, but it was jolly nice !! And since then, I've loved the name!

jumpjockey · 14/10/2008 12:37

Veggie - you may laugh but Gertrude is the MIL's middle name so that one's off the list for several reasons!

Our names for when people ask are Sigismund for a boy, and Mezzanine for a girl. The number of people who try to be polite and say "Mmm, yes Mezzanine I can see that's quite pretty really" is hilariously large

JamInMyWellies · 14/10/2008 12:39

mm beans he looks very brooding

emmanbump · 14/10/2008 12:41

Our names for when people ask are either bungle or Martha (mix of mine and DH's first names) .

Beans33 · 14/10/2008 12:41

Hee hee jj - one of my best friends is called Marina and we call her Mez (ergo Mezzanine) for short. Brilliant! I always think Chlamydia would be a pretty name!

SummerLightning · 14/10/2008 12:47

veggie MIL basically started harping on about how we couldn't decide after the event, we had to beforehand, and that the "midwives look down on you if you don't have a name ready" (whatt???) So DH basically told her that we would decide before the event but we're not telling her the ones we are thinking of. a while ago she went on and on about how she didn't like timothy (which is our joke name for baby, as with surname it makes a beer, but she didn't understand this part so thought we were being serious), and if she is going to be rude about normal potential names like timothy then I am not involving her in the decision process!! (Don't particularly like the name, but she could be vaguely diplomatic)
jj I have a great aunt called gertrude, except even she hates it so has always been called Freda, her middle name.
beans lol at mr tantric sex noah. For some reason Noah implies a handsome sort of chappie to me too! Nice name.

We are only considering boys names as 20 week scan said it was a boy (and they pointed out the bits and seem pretty certain). If it's a girl we are a bit buggered on the clothes we have so far as well, so hopefully it's not!!

SummerLightning · 14/10/2008 12:50

Yeah beans, or gonorrhea for a boy! haha. Poor kid would have a nightmare learning to spell it as well!

jumpjockey · 14/10/2008 12:58

H met a girl called Candida once - not so bad you think, but her surname was Smellie Apparently it was pronounced Smilie

SL that's mad, I know lots of people who had a name picked out then when they met their baby said "Oh no, he can't possibly be a Bernard, he's clearly an Algernon".**names changed to protect the innocent

jumpjockey · 14/10/2008 13:04

Oh no - that now makes no sense. It deleted my handy asterisk about the baby names. Candida was a real person, it would be a bit pointless to post a "comedy name" post with names made up. Then again I did meet that chap called Whalebone Fenderbender the other day...

Kimberly1979 · 14/10/2008 13:08

Chutney Sorry to hear about your DD. I hope she feels better soon! Seems like everyone is getting chest infections of some kind.
Kayz I like Dylan!! Toby is also cute as well.
Beans I also like Max and Alexander too!

We keep going back and forth between Judah Michael and Isaiah Charles. I also like Evan but DH thinks it's not a strong enough name.

Got my blood results back and my sugar levels were good. But they're wanting me to take iron supplements. I already take a daily vitamin with the dosage of iron they are asking me to take. So I have to call the midwives and see what they want me to do.

Kimberly1979 · 14/10/2008 13:21

You ladies are hilarious! I've been cracking up about the funny names. Maybe we should give some of those to my MIL. She's not been too hot on any of the names we've chosen and keeps asking if we could pick something else.
Thankfully she hasn't started giving us names to use... well not yet at least.

zoejeanne · 14/10/2008 13:22

Hi everyone,

chutney sorry to hear how poorly your DD is (was it you who had to rush home from a weekend away when she first got ill?) but very glad to hear she's on the mend now.

veggie hoping these 2 weeks fly by and DH is back soon. Is your DS bi-lingual? I'm v envious - and he's only 2!

ladyt hope the driving goes better today - I still have bad driving days (which is a worry as I passed my test 12 years ago!)

kayz good luck with the housing association today, and good luck to reban with the scan as well

jezza good to hear from you again, I hope work calms down a bit for you. I?m also using AL to do 4 day weeks now ? I?m loving them, but starting to get lazy the days I am in as well.

Kimberley good news about the blood test results

On names ? we agreed on a boys name, plus spare (just in case) almost straight away, but it took a lot longer to decide girls names ? we?ve got 2 options and for both of them we keep preferring one then the other. arti I love Ester ? that wasn?t on our list, but maybe it should be. Both our girls names choices start with E, and Ester fits that pattern. SL I?d deliberately tell MIL some names I know she?d hate, just to wind her up! We decided early on not to tell anyone ? my sis and my best friend are both teachers, so we don?t want to risk getting ?I taught someone called that, they were awful? ? once it?s born they won?t be able to say that (or will get a kick if they do!)

Have a good day everyone

SummerLightning · 14/10/2008 13:24

I knew what you meant jj Candida is the stuff you have to take if you have thrush isn't it?? I think it's pretty bad even if they didn't have Smellie for a surname!!! (Hopes desperately that no-one on thread has friends/children called candida!)

Good luck re the iron supplements kimberley. I am taking spatone, which is some natural iron supplement (basically irony water as far as I understand) that is not meant to bung you up.

kayzisexpecting · 14/10/2008 13:32

SL We were told that this one is a boy too. But we have loads of girls names we love and have only just decided on Dylan Toby.

My DH knows someone call Candida. It didn't click why it was funny for about 2 weeks when I was in the chemist for some rennie's and saw some.

How does everyone think they would feel if they were told they were having a boy and then had a girl? Or vice versa?
My friend was told she was having a smaller than average girl and actually had a 9lb 7oz boy.
I think I go into complete shock and send my mum to Mothercare for pink clothes!!

SummerLightning · 14/10/2008 13:37

Kayz I thnk i'd be a bit shocked, but would see the funny side!!
Forgot to say, good luck with the house stuff, fingers crossed!

emmanbump · 14/10/2008 13:53

I wouldn't mind either way. Would be a bit of a pain returning all the pink stuff I have. If it happens I might just let the boy wear the pink things anyway

SummerLightning · 14/10/2008 13:56

although according to MIL, EVERYONE would prefer to have a boy first, so she will be disappointed! Bless MILs.

zoejeanne · 14/10/2008 13:56

That was partly why we didn't find out - we wanted a surprise, but just before our scan heard of someone in our area who did get a shock. Don't know what I'd do!

kayzisexpecting · 14/10/2008 14:00

I'd be quite happy as I did want a girl as I have a DS already but I think I'd be a bit sad too as I'd been expecting a boy.
