That's so sweet Beans! Or these!

I mean it'd be worth it just to add to the photos to embarrass your son/daughter with when their first girl/boyfriend came round for tea!

Kimberly1979 · 13/10/2008 15:08

Hey Everyone!

Slept much better last night.

Husband had to make an appointment with the GP today. I think he's come down with the infection our friend had. I've been washing my hands and everything else in the house like a mad woman! So far I feel fine... so we'll see.

Also... does anyone know what keynotes are in urine? I had my appointment last week and the nurse told me I had keynotes in my urine and also mentioned I needed to eat more (although I feel like I'm already stuffing my face all the time!).

Hope everyone is having an okay day!

zoejeanne · 13/10/2008 15:28

hatty so pleased you're thinking of trivia again! And it looks like your worries now will be who won't be looking after DD's and you, rather than who will - as so many people are able to help if necessary.

kimberley I seem to remember I had keynotes in urine at a check up, apparently they're a sign of a possible urine infection (if it is what I'm thinking of) so drink lots of water and get back to GP if you do get an infection.

zoejeanne · 13/10/2008 15:29

Oh, and I meant to say, that I wish babyZJ wasn't due so close to Xmas, or I'd definitely be getting a Christmas outfit. It's v hard to resist, but chances are I'll end up with an unworn newborn sized outfit if I do indulge (but those due early in Dec must - and post the pictures for me to see!)

Beans33 · 13/10/2008 15:35

I was told at the weekend not to buy anything in newborn size, but to get aged 0-3 months as they last much longer! If you have a big baby, they won't even get into the newborn stuff.

theyoungvisiter · 13/10/2008 15:37

Hi Kimberley, I think maybe she meant ketones? I'm not an expert but I believe they can be related to dehydration and not eating enough - they are produced when the body breaks down its own fat/protein for energy instead of using energy from food.

So a v good excuse to eat more chocs! Check with your midwife in case this is rubbish, but I'm pretty sure that's what I read.

Veggiemummy · 13/10/2008 15:39

hehehehe sorry shouldn't giggle but the term is ketones not keynotes, obviously your MW's mumble a bit as well as not explaining the terms they use, they can be a sign of infection or diabetes but if they aren't sending you for other tests i would worry too much

OP posts:
theyoungvisiter · 13/10/2008 15:39

I agree about not buying anythign in newborn - or at the most just buying a pack of plain little sleepsuits for hospital.

Everyone buys newborn stuff when the baby is born and you are swamped for the first few months and then have nothing for the following few!

Veggiemummy · 13/10/2008 15:43

sorry crossposts wth TYV that is also correct bascically when you are starving or have a high Blood glucose your body breaks down fats and protein in your stores and you end up producing ketones which are excreted in your urine. I would go with the choclate advice that TYV in fact i might partake as well.

OP posts:
SummerLightning · 13/10/2008 15:50

I also heard that about the newborn stuff, also that if you have stuff given you with labels still on, even without receipt, most shops will change them for a bigger size. Dunno if this is true or not!
I have been given a load of 2nd hand clothes and some of the newborn stuff is miniscule!

mibbes · 13/10/2008 15:54

hatty am so pleased your arrangements are sorted and you are already sounding happier as a result

thanks so much for your words of wisdom ladies - I know you're right but the regular need to cry is not atall familiar to me. Also get very emotional when anything remotely baby-related is on the TV, blimin' hormones ! Beans you are so lucky to be feeling like you can't wait to 'get started' ! I am loving being PG and worried that I'll miss my bump (mainly because a big flabby burst balloon will be left in its place !)

Apparently my SIL has bought a 'baby's first xmas' babygrow for my LO , that one from M&P is adorable Beans ! Am thinking it'd make a great 'leaving hospital' outfit (unless baby comes way early !)

theyoungvisiter · 13/10/2008 15:55

oo good - glad I was not just talking rubbish! (Always a possibility - especially with pregnancy brain).

Yes indeed I can also confirm that shops WILL often exchange stuff - depends on the shop but I took back quite a lot of stuff to mothercare - as I got 3 packs of literally exactly the same 7 little vest suits, in exactly the same size, and exactly the same pattern.

I got vouchers and spent some on DS and (whisper) some on nursing bras for me! Felt a bit guilty but as DH pointed out, a) they would all think that DS was wearing "their" present, and b) what on earth were we going to do with 21 identical vests?

mibbes · 13/10/2008 16:00

I have been told that you get given so many gifts that you need to change things for bigger sizes otherwise baby will never wear half of it ! Am going to send DP out to return stuff ASAP as with the sales kicking in after xmas the shops will only give sale price refunds without a receipt which is very frustrating when you know the person who bought the gift paid full price.

Beans33 · 13/10/2008 16:03

Gosh, I've got so much stuff still to get - when do we buy nursing bras? Is it in last month? My boobs just don't seem to be getting any bigger/fuller at moment. But am not complaining, as am 38D and am usually at 36B!

Mibbes - I will miss the bump terribly - especially the kicking - even when it hurts! But I'm so excited to meet the person that's been doing it, if you know what I mean!

SummerLightning · 13/10/2008 16:35

Beans me too re so much stuff to get!! I am going to try and write a proper list. It is all so confusing as well. Nursing bras not til last month I think.

have been lurking today but not proper posting, too tired. Had the MIL for the weekend, did far too much stuff and it has worn me out. Hardly got anything done at work today, can't believe that I have 8 weeks more of work to go!!!

hattyyellow · 13/10/2008 16:37

Nursing bras are in the last few weeks as far as I remember. I think I bought mine about a month before as they thought the girls might come before their due date, but the fitter just added on a bit to the estimated cup size I think!

Mibbes I missed being pregnant last time as well, even though I was delighted to finally have my babies. It was such a special time, especially being first time pregnant and being so excited together about the new arrival.

JollyBear · 13/10/2008 16:56

Hello everyone,

pixsix I was just going to echo what others have said about curtains and sash windows. My mum lines her curtains with old curtains or charity shop curtains because it is cheaper and warmer than buying special curtain linings.

hatty Glad to hear that your neighbours were lovely and understanding.

mibbes I was having similar thoughts this weekend! It is just natural to feel scared and emotional, it is a huge change afterall. Hope you feel a bit better today.

Can I ask your advice ladies? Can you feel a bit odd and sick if the baby is lying in an unusual position? I've felt offish since I woke in the night with tummy ache but I've just woken from a nap and feel much better. Before the baby was more stuck out (IYKWIM?!)but it has now moved back to it's usual position which is transverse. I suppose what I am trying to ask is did I feel ill because the baby was in a funny position or is it just a coincidence I've woken feeling better?

artichokes · 13/10/2008 17:03

JB - you can start feeling dizzy and sick when you lie on your back because the weight of the baby on your organs and veins can restrict bloodflow. My physio always gets paranoid when I lie on my back. Following that logic I imagine you might feel ill if the baby was somehow lying heavily on a particular organ or vein. TMI but I kept getting an upset tummy when the baby was breech (its turned now). I think she kicked my intestine so regularly that it gave me the runs!

JollyBear · 13/10/2008 17:09

Thanks artichokes, I bet you are glad she has turned!

I was just getting myself really worried before that something was the matter even though it was only a bit of tummy ache and feeling 'funny' - thanks though as I feel much more reassured that it was probably just the jollycub squishing something important!

emmanbump · 13/10/2008 17:10

Hi All,

Gosh for 4 days so many posts!!! Sorry I haven't been able to read them all properly as i'm at work and the boss keeps peering over my shoulder. (grrr)

Anyway, hugs to everyone ill / in pain / not sleeping well / emotional etc.

Kimberly / Kmp I live in Epping essex. Kimberly are you in Leytonstone? Keep forgetting.

Thanks for all the advice everyone on how to not be a lonely hermit new mummy

Arti / Hatty hope everything turns out ok for you both.

Re nickname very unoriginal my name "n" bump

emmanbump · 13/10/2008 17:12

Also had a great time at my folks and was thoroughly spoilt. The down side of being away at the weekend is I still need to fit in my food shop and washing etc and all the other rubbish house jobs.....

hattyyellow · 13/10/2008 17:32

Arti meant to say thank you so much for encouraging words about your SIL bonding and the breastfeeding working well too - that makes me feel much better .

Emma glad you had a lovely break

jumpjockey · 13/10/2008 17:35

Hello all! Blimey you are busy on here.

pixsix re windows, we're having our sashes restored as they've been left to rot for the last 100 years or so by previous owners so some of them don't stay open, they all rattle like mad and a couple of the frames have somehow got dislodged so there are big gaps between the wall and the wood. Definitely get several quotes, we had a guy from Ventrolla who quoted approximately £1k per window , instead we're going with an independent local guy who's less than half that. Meanwhile velvet curtains from ikea make a big difference!

Hmm that was a very dull bit of posting, sorry. Am in a v nesty sort of mood, we're finally getting round to doing all the stuff that#'s been waiting 5 years since we moved in = carpet in the spare room for the baby, shelves up, fixing two dodgy radiators etc. Still, not quite as ambitious as the lady at yoga who said last week (at 38.5 weeks) she didn't mind when the baby arrived, as long as it's after Saturday as that's when her kitchen will be finished!!

TheInvisibleHand · 13/10/2008 18:32

pixsix and waitinggirl - actually just in the process of getting our windows sorted at the moment. In our case not sash, but fairly knackered victorian bay windows. We've had a bunch of quotes - the specialist companies are eye wateringly expensive, some come over better than others. We've gone with a local joiner in Muswell hill, which comes to about half what the specialists are asking for. DH has been dealing, so I don't have the details but can get them if you would like -also won't find out if they are any good until its done though! I also think they aren't really interested unless its a replacement rather than just refurbishment.

Sorry not to post re others - need to rush home, but have read and do think of you all!

pixsix · 13/10/2008 18:39

Invisible would be great to hear how it goes with your windows, fingers crossed that you get a great result.
