oh Arti i'm exhausted just reading your post, taht sounds all very hard, will you be able to have as long as you want for you Mat leave or do they want you back soon and fulltime for that too. Oh congrats on the promotion by the way well done. is it possible to negotiate some working from home time to at least cut don on the commute?

i am having trouble with my hips too really hurt over night and very stiff and sore when gettin out of bed, am trying someth9ing between my legs and it is helping.

Oh arti that sounds so very tiring. And very hard for you to get used to working away from DLO if you have been used to having those two extra days. I really feel for you. Summer is right...is there anyway you can get help (maybe a special treat cleaner and a whole heap of ready meals?).

I've been a bit 'windy' too ...DS just stares at me in shock and then starts laughing and saying 'is it daddy, is it me, is it mummy....ITS MUMMY'...he thinks it is great!!!!!

Olipop · 02/10/2008 12:14

I'm such a source of amusement to everyone at the moment - what with my crazy tearful outbursts, wind, sticky out tummy button (as just noticed by a guy at work!!!!) and ability to keep forgetting that I am pregnant! I was arranging dinner with a friend this morning and actually said (on a packed train) 'oooh yes, tuesday would be great, DS is at nursery the next day and I'm not at work then so I can get pissed have a few drinks'!! She looked at me in a shocked way and I realised that that wasn't an option anymore and the reason that DS would be at nursery and I wouldn't be at work is because I will have started my MATERNITY LEAVE!!!!! I dread to think what the other commuters thought!

Beans33 · 02/10/2008 12:16

Jolly - I'm windy all round too - and Veggie!

JJ - I was sick a couple of weeks ago and to my horror, a bit of wee came out too - so make sure you practice those pelvic floors! I've been doing mine religiously ever since!!!

Beans33 · 02/10/2008 12:19

PS My tummy button isn't sticking out at all - I dont' think it will do now. It's still resolutely an inny. And I do seem to be getting a very faint linea nigra (I hope it's real this time and not a phantom one!), but there seem to be 2 of them above my tummy button, which is odd...

artichokes · 02/10/2008 12:20

Thanks for the kind comments. My maternity leave is not sure to start for another 8 weeks (two weeks before my due date). I jsut can't see how I will get that far. Don't worry though, I am already cutting corners at home!

SummerLightning · 02/10/2008 12:21

beans lol!!!!

I have to admit to having had a sneeze when I needed a wee, this was weeks and weeks ago now as well, and the same thing happened to me!

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2008 12:22

Oli lol at your train slip very funny.

Beans i have to make sure i never have a fullish bladder as if i cough or sneeze i have a little wee come out. I have been doing my pelvic floor excercises but i think sometimes pressure of baby and loosening of all the bits makes for a bad continence combination.

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 02/10/2008 12:24

artichokes: is there any way you can do a day from home? Or adjust your hours so you get to leave earlier or start later? lso, have you had a H&S assessment? Luckily I have a sympathetic boss, so if I start getting too tired (also have a couple of months to go before ML starts) I will ask if I can slope off to the first aid room for a short rest in teh afternoon {blush].

artichokes · 02/10/2008 12:25

I have had sneezing and coughing "issues" for about three weeks. If I need to sneeze or cough I have to stop walking and cross my legs. It is v embarrassing. God knows what would happen if I had to vom. I mentioned it to my physio the other day and she said its partly due to the baby being very low and partly due to damage done down there last time. She took me through some very clear pelvic floor exersizes which already seem to be working . There is hope ladies.

SummerLightning · 02/10/2008 12:26

I am doing my pelvic floors now, you have reminded me!!!

Tee hee, that reminds me, I was moaning that I was hungry yesterday and that fruit just wasn't filling me up, but that I didn't want to eat anything sweet as I was getting fat....and my boss helpfully suggested that I should go for a run to offset sweet things ....now I don't like running at the best of times, so he said to me "oh why not?", and I replied "I don't think it would be very good for my pelvic floor". Dunno if it is true or not, but it shut him up, haha!!

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2008 12:27

has anyone done one sneeze, not wee'd thought ah i got away with it, then suddenly do a 2nd sneeze and out it comes.

Olipop · 02/10/2008 12:28

I dare not join in on the incontinence chat....oh can't resist it! I have horrendous problems and have had for years. My darling sister always tells the story of me throwing up and weeing all over the bathroom floor when I was still living at home!! She is a right wretch! I retaliate with the night she came in so drunk she fell in the washing basket!
My morning sickness was really bad and I had to throw up into bags so I could do it whilst sitting on the toilet. I think after baby 2 I'm am going to have to get some serious help!

artichokes · 02/10/2008 12:29

Sorry Effie, x-posts. The place I work is very formal and "old school". They are well meaning and would reduce my hours if I pleaded but I would be the first woman here to admit there are physical challenges to pregnancy (must seem to wait until their contractions are 5 mis apart before they even leave their desks).

I need to prove myself at this new level. I went for the promotion fully aware of what it would entail and they gave me the promotion despite the fact they knew it would cause them probs with maternity cover etc. I feel I owe it to the organisaion to give the new job my all for as long as possible.

EffiePerine · 02/10/2008 12:32

Fair enough. It might be worth alerting your boss to the fact that you may have to start your ML earlier than planned, and ask how much notice they will need. Mayeb not straight away if you've recently been promoted (also you may find things settle down)

EffiePerine · 02/10/2008 12:33

also look into flexible rather than reduced hours - if you have a tube journey changing your travel times might make the journey less stressful if not quicker.

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2008 12:45

well it is a shame they won' relent on hours and home working but brilliant that they gave you a promotion despite your 'condition' years ago that would not have happened.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 02/10/2008 13:10

Everyone's very chatty today!

arti good on your work for giving you your promotion, shame about the hours! No real advice though, I'm afraid

veggie I knew RPF was a true story, but seeing it on screen just seemed to make it more real iyswim.

oli SIL is trying to find the website for the chairs, I'll let you know once I've got it!

Another quiet day for us, I'm still full of cold & ds seems to have a bit of a dodgy stomach!

mibbes · 02/10/2008 13:11

Bisou OMG what an amazing post !

Jollybear yes nursery is pretty much done - have a few things arriving tonight to finish it off there are some pics on my profile. LOL at your loud burps !

hatty OMG poor you ! What a nightmare, but glad all is ok.

jumpjockey hope you're feeling better soon - I actually did lean back from the screen

Loving all of the emotional outburst stories

I have also been swithering about nappies and have decided (like Beans and SL) to use disposables initially as there is going to be a steep enough learning curve as it is ! Then when I have a clue what I'm doing and the shock has worn off I'll look into real nappies.

Olipop LOL

If I have a windy moment I just look down and say 'ooh naughty baby' !

Beans I had a sneeze&wee moment at 16 weeks ! Am still rubbish at remebering to do pelvic floors though

JollyBear · 02/10/2008 13:33

Reading this has reminded me to do my pelvic floors!

I'm glad I am not the only burpy one. veggie I must admit I'm rather windy from the other end first thing too . Sometimes my tummy feels horribly uncomfortable and sore until I get a bit of wind out!! Am I sharing too much?

mibbes Your nursery looks lovely!

arti Those are tough hours. It is a shame you can't work from home once a week. Hope you are not too exhausted.

zoejeanne · 02/10/2008 14:13

Oh blimey - I turn my back for a few days and there's a whole new thread that's already a quarter full. Have been trying to catch up all day, and everytime I get ready to reply there's a whole load more conversation going on! Love the title by the way.

So what to say ... everything that's happened has gone out of my head already. All of those of you with colds and sniffles, I hope you get better soon (can you catch a cold through MN? The way it's spreading on this thread I think so!) And those with worse worries (sorry - can't remember who, but know there's been a bleeding scare and a fall), I really hope that you get back on track soon as it must be so scary. (((hugs))) to everyone who needs one.

So I'm sat here doing pelvic floors too now - have had the odd little dribble when I wee and strangely seem to leak a drop about 2 minutes after having a proper wee, although I try so hard to empty my bladder - really is TMI on here today! Leaking from all ends does up the need to put a towel on my bed - good suggestion.

So two pieces of big news to report from my week off. 1) We've got a pram, hurrah! 2) I got measured for a bra yesterday and the lady told me I have very firm breasts , I was very proud until she added 'as this is your first baby (I didn't tell her that, she guessed from my firm breasts) enjoy them while they last'

Will try harder to catch up now ...

Beans33 · 02/10/2008 15:06

Oooh ooh, this has just been delivered to me and it's gorgeous! I think we should ALL get one for our little nippers! So exciting!

Hee hee - so glad I started everyone else chatting about the "stress incontinence", so I know it's not just me. I'm so rubbish at remembering to clench at unclench. In fact, yoga's about the only place I do get it done! We also have to clench and unclench our sphincters and it's all I can do not to do a schoolgirl giggle every time she says the word "sphincter". I'm pathetic, I know. But it's just an awful word!!!

I'm off to John Lewis tonight to collect a few bits and bobs and also to order the rest of the stuff - oh hurray!!!!

jumpjockey · 02/10/2008 15:06

Just woke up from a rather mammoth snooze and am feeling a lot better - well, I'm blimming ravenous which isn't surprising given that I've not been able to keep anything down for 36 hours, so time to have some food... If I wasn't PG I'd think this was a great weight loss tactic, as it is I just hope the baby's not too hungry in there (sorry junior!)

arti - well done you on the promotion, it must be really hard trying to be 'super-woman' at the moment. [hug] Given that they've already shown their confidence in you by giving you this new position, it sounds as if they might be sympathetic if you do say you need to start ML a bit earlier than planned - as you say, better to work 100% for a shorter time than 80% (or less if you're really suffering) for the whole 10 weeks.

zoe hurrah for your firm breasts!

OK, pelvic floor exercises. What's the best way to do it - I've read so many things about keep going until you're knackered, or pretend like there's a lift in your fanny and you're moving it up and down floors - what actually works?! I never know if I'm getting the right bit either or if I'm just squeezing my bum

rosmerta · 02/10/2008 15:18

beans that is cute! I think I've still got one from last time around, plus a santa outfit!

jump the way I know to check if you're getting the right bit is to pretend you're trying to stop a wee, best way I can explain it. There are different exercises you can do for maximum benefit, one is the lift and the other is rapid clench/unclench.

Olipop · 02/10/2008 15:23

very cute beans!!! I'm going to have to buy a few bits soon to satisfy my nesting urges!

Also need to do some serious cleaning - we've had builders in messing everything up and I need to get scrubbing!!!! Everything is covered in fine layer of dust!

I just bought DS the 'there's a house in my mummy' book. Can't wait to read it to him tonight!
