De avoid the baby bjorn type, not great at supporting baby's hips or neck and hell on your back.

this kind of thing is good (and a pretty good site all round)

Agree re the baby bjorn I have 2 of these and they are good from about 3mth but before that no use as not enough support. The ring slings are good think there is one called a maya sling which is good and comes with an instruction dvd.

We had a baby bjorn, but DD HATED it, so I hardly used it at all. Would be interested to try a sling this time though...

Thanks for all the "wheat crunchie" comments, by the way. I was obviously forced against my will to pause momentarily at the newsagent at Clapham Junction on the way home to get some. (I've never had the tomato ones, you see .) Have saved self a bacon packet for tomorrow!!

Buggywise, we had to get a Graco last time because SIL had given us her old car seat (I KNOW, I KNOW! I wasn't that keen either!) and we had to get a buggy to fit. I had SUCH pram envy of everyone else. Mine was practical, but hideous. Finally caved and got a Quinny Buzz several months in - but DD grew fast and so we didn't get much use from it. (Also the wheel base is enormous, so not much use for city living!) eBayed it and did ok. So - a blank slate!

We still have a Mclaren Volo but DD hardly ever uses it these days - but it was a fantastic buy. This time round though I'm afraid I'm following my lusts for the baby stage and will be getting the cliché-tastic Bugaboo. Sorry guys, but after one miserable maternity leave (nothing to do with prams!) this time round I want to have fun!!!

Thanks to whoever posted the groovystyle link, btw - some very good deals on cool prams!!

rosmerta · 16/07/2008 21:30

That explains why there are always at least a couple of baby bjorns at the nearly new sales! Glad I didn't buy one last time now.

Verso · 16/07/2008 21:31

P.S. Had anticlimatic GP/midwife visit today - she didn't even try to listen for a HB as she was satisfied my fundal height was fine. Oh well that's ok then . Scan next Friday. Good luck for tomorrow, cc!

Veggiemummy · 16/07/2008 22:02

Verso thats very mean that she didn't do your babies HB, lazy moo.

Morning All

I felt the baby kick hard for the first time this morning. It did 8 kicks in a row and they were so strong I would feel them with my hand. It was 6.45am so I quickly prodded DH and woke him to feel too. It took him a few secs to rise out of his hangover fuelled slumber and by the time he had the kicking had stopped. Typical.

Re slings - first we had a Baby Bjorn Active Sport. DD loved it and as a newborn DH would walk her round the block to get her to sleep and then sit on the sofa with her strapped to him asleep for the evening. It was soooo cute. DH loved the Bjorn because he reckoned it was more "masculine" than other slings . However, as others have said by 3 months DD was just too heavy for it. We got an Ergo after that. This time I want a Mai Tai. Anybody had one?

Re cars - we got a Golf when I was pregnant last time. IME they are fine when you have one child. However, when we go to Wales or Devon and have to take all DD's kit (pram, travel cot etc etc etc) every inch of the car is choc full. There is no way we could fit two kids in a Golf and still go away or give DH's gran lifts anywhere (two baby seats will fill the whole back seat). We are therefore mulling over an Audi estate or a Vauxhall Zafira. I much prefer the Audi but it is much less versatille (the back seat will still be dominated by two baby seats) and a 4 year old Audi estate is at least double the price of a 4 year old Zafira.

Our 20 week scan is a week today. Some of you may recall that our nuchal scan suggested the baby could have an increased risk of a heart defect or other problem. As a result we are really nervous about the scan but I am also releived that we should find out everything in 7 days.

Veggiemummy · 17/07/2008 10:18

Artichoke that is so exciting about the kicking. Very interested in this sling called a Mai Tai, i still love our hugabub, but would much prefer a sling named after a cocktail. Finally one of these baby product companies have realised we need names for products that we can relate to.

Is an ergo like a backpack carrier, we have one of those and DH still carried DS in it for long walks in the countryside when he is sick of walking, but if you do get one make sure it has stirrups for their feet. Our didnt and we had to fashion some otherwise put it a bit of pressure on his bott and bits.

After saying i haven't had a headache for 2 days i woke up this morning with a huge headache am currently having a decaf to settle it, i think i might be sleeping badly and that might be causing it. I should really be getting packing for camping weekend but want to chill out and drink coffee.

GettingBiggerBird · 17/07/2008 10:24

I'd forgotten about slings - so just been having a look and found this one for twins - how cute? www.twinsuk.co.uk/product.php?id=100529 Not the guy, obviously .
I found the baby bjorn OK but I'm tall and strong so that probably made the difference. I used it till my DD was 8 months, at festivals especially.

My headaches have gone for now, thank goodness, in fact I just seem to be having the stretching pains at the moment. I'd better shut up before I jinx myself.

Off for the Wheat Crunchies (Worcester Sauce for me).

LadyThompson · 17/07/2008 11:23

GettingBigger, you pipped me at the post about the Worcester Sauce. They are streets ahead of the other flavours! Tomato is second choice though.

My scan a week today like Arti's, though I'll be 21+2 by then - the Fetal Medicine Centre wouldn't do the '20 week' scan before 21 weeks! Seems a bit odd to me. I sympathise, Arti - we are waiting to see if a nasal bone has grown in. They thought she might have DS because of this, when I had the nuchal, but the CVS came back clear.

Gosh, I can't feel actual kicks. Just this fluttering and wibbling about.

artichokes · 17/07/2008 11:27

LadyT - I am at the FMC a week today too! Maybe we will see each other there! Strangely they had no problem with my 20 week scan taking place on the day I turn 20 weeks .

LadyThompson · 17/07/2008 11:47

Arti, that is really odd! Because they were so insistent, and then I had to change my obstetrician appointment and everything (otherwise I would have been seeing her before I had the scan, which was useless!). They said they do Anomaly Scans, which is what the 20 wk scan is, between 21 and 24 weeks only. Anyway, I'm going at 4pm, how about you?

artichokes · 17/07/2008 12:32

Hmmm, do you think I should call them and ask whether they can def do the full scan at 20 weeks? I would hate to go and still not get answers about the baby's heart.

Our appt is 2.30pm so we probably will not overlap.

LadyThompson · 17/07/2008 12:35

Well, I just looked on their website to check and it says clearly that the Anomaly Scan can be done between 20 and 24 weeks! Also, my obstetrician used to work there and she was the one who originally told me to book it any time in week 20 - if the FMC had a policy, she surely would have known about it. But the receptionist was adamant. Maybe it was just her that was funny, so I guess I wouldn't worry about it. Will be sorry to miss you, though!

Beans33 · 17/07/2008 12:56

Just bought 2 packs of bacon Wheat Crunchies (Was going to write and acronym, but they're not so appetising as WCs!). 1 wouldn't be enough!

We've been given a baby bjorn, so will stick with that and see how it goes. If it's not suitable, we can then go and get something else, without losing money, which is great. I had terribly nightmares about not being able to get the carseat in last night and MIL was being a total cow and wouldn't help. I couldn't be further from the truth as my MIL is just the nicest one you could ask for - endlessly kind and generous. Anyway, have woken up slightly grumpy today, but sure it will lighten up soon! Get the WCs into me! Haha. And actually a full fat coke would do wonders!

I am SO looking forward to a night in tonight, watching telly and eating lambchops. Off to a wedding in the south of france tomorrow - brilliant! looking forward to putting on my first maternity wedding outfit!

Hope the baby moves again later. It's such a lovely feeling.

artichokes - I hope all goes well with your scan and the heart is ok. Let us know how you get on?

Veggiemummy · 17/07/2008 12:57

Is that the FMC in Harley Street they have the yummiest hot chocolates in that machine thing of theirs and lovely toilets, oh and the scans are good too. We had DS's scans there and we had his anomoly scan at 20weeks. We had to have a 35 weeks scan too as i originally had placenta previa, i love that place so plush. Derby general isn't quite the same, and i have to pay 25p for my hot chocolate.

Have just been to sainsburys and gpt the mixed pack of wheat crunchies for the trip. DH is quite familiar with them and loves the tomato one. Can't see why i have been kept away from them for so long.

Beans33 · 17/07/2008 13:14

I'm also quite keen on roast beef monster munch. but you can only get them in multi packs these days.

LadyThompson · 17/07/2008 13:18

Yes, it's that FMC. Didn't notice the hot choc last time as I was in a bit of a state, though I did read a whole OK followed by a whole Hello when I was waiting for the CVS. They were a bit delayed!

rosmerta · 17/07/2008 13:32

artichokes hope your scan goes well

Might drag ds round the shops this afternoon to see if I can find any wheat crunchies! Failing that I guess pickled onion Monster Munch will do

Dh hasn't done the shopping for ages so all I could find for my lunch today was one of ds's shepherd pies!

Just out of interest, is anyone else finding that they get a really funny aftertaste in their mouths after eating pretty much anything at the moment? Particularly sweet things for me.

Also, I am not suffering from the famed constipation that I read about a lot. Quite the opposite in fact - could do with a bit of constipation, to be honest!!!

Veggiemummy · 17/07/2008 14:18

well it's over 3 years ago but from memory it was directly across from the reception desk lady.

off to wales now hope the weather isn't too bad, the farm we are going to has pony rides and animal stuff and DS has his heart set on it.

Olipop · 17/07/2008 14:59

Hello strangers...Gosh I'm missing having broadband at home.
I was very sad to hear minsters news so if she is still reading I'd like to share my sympathies.

rosmerta · 17/07/2008 15:18

veggie hope you have a nice trip to Wales! Dh's family have a farm in Ireland & we're hoping to go over there maybe next year.

olipop hello, long time no see!

Olipop · 17/07/2008 15:21

Hello...yes, it really is a pain!!
Talking of pains...I feel like I'm about 8 months gone at the moment....I have a massive bump (well it feels like that..and people keep making snide comments about multiple births!) and back ache and my ligaments keep giving out on me...wobbly leg syndrome! But generally LOVING being pregnant..it always makes me feel special!
I think I felt some tiny kicks last week but tiddler is being very quiet which I'm trying not to stress about!
Interesting posts about slings...I didn't realise the BBjorn was rubbish...I'll have to try a different one this time round.
