The weather has suddenly got really grim here - huuuuge black cloud and the wind has picked up. Not raining yet though...

Minkus - how lovely of your colleagues! And fab pressies I get so embarrassed with stuff like that, although it'd be worse if no-one even cared I was leaving.

Congratulations on the cooker EEC. I'm trying to get a new one at the moment, but we need to get the fitted one taken out (no idea how easy this is).

Dungarees are just great, it took me ages to track some maternity ones down - I could only find some in Mothercare and they're hardly ever in stock. I was stupidly excited the day they arrived; they're all covered in paint now but still very comfy.

Heffa · 14/05/2008 20:50

Congrats on the maternity leave Pigley, and sorry to hear about the glucose test. I hope everything works out OK and isn't too much hassle.

minipinkscottish · 14/05/2008 21:00

Congrats to all now on maternity leave - welcome to the countdown club!!

DD loved her gymnastics and I was so proud of her

DS age 14 just came home from rugby training and he has broken his nose AGAIN!! He had an op last year to correct the last break - think he might just leave it this time because he has no intention of stopping rugby Boys!!!!!

Sending you good vibes pigley.

I have read everyone's posts, but I can't possibly remember everything, so here is a general "hello" to all of you!

I'm going to the hospital tomorrow for more blood tests (platelet count) so hopefully that will be okay. I'm also manning the breastfeeding awareness stand at the antenatal clinic telling all those mummies to be how great bf is!

JODIEhavingababy · 14/05/2008 22:10

Hi all,

I'm another one who can't tremember what's been said so if i miss anything, I'm sorry...

Tjuice I would go for a spa day, sounds like bliss, I had a night in Nottingham, complete with condom covered tiara and pink sash! Loved every minute if it but then again I was 23 and full of life! I then went and got married in Las Vegas, complete with Elvis! I know how cheesy it sounds, but it was wonderful (and didn't cost alot!)

pigley good luck with the doctors appt... How do you feel in yourself? It can't be that awful if you feel OK? Can it?

minipink Wow with your amazing family... must have good genes!

Had such a good day today, took DS to the farm for the first time! He was a bit scared at first, but I went with a frend who has a little girl the same age and she was fine (she's been before} so he stopped being a wuss and got on with it! we fed goats, pigs, sheep, ducks, rabbits, even got to hold chickens and ducklings and had a bottle of milk for the baby goats and lambs! Sooo cute!

I'm actually really looking forward to going to THe Baby Show on Saturday, there are some purchases that I've been holding out on buying as I'm sure I'll get a bargain when I go there! Plus they have great inventions that you've never seen anywhere else! I love it!!!

mcchesers · 14/05/2008 22:20

Good vibes to Pigley..don't get yourself all worried before you talk to the GP. big hugs to you!!

My sister bought my dungerees in Texas somewhere, but I found there were quite a few on ebay. They best are Dickeys brand, they are made for big fat farmers, but fit the prego tummies very well. They are usually $20.00USD brand new so you can usually get a good deal.

Mothercare had capri dungers like mine but they were £30!! I could not justify that for 2 months. Ho man..two months!!

just starting to see the spills of sad football fans making their way home..I really hope it's quiet tonight and that I get some sleep.

ButterflyMcQueen · 14/05/2008 22:31

hello all

tjuice hope they have planned something fab

mccheesers you do look fab in those

pigley hope its all ok - they will prob just tell you to watch your diet

i went to the docs today for first time in pg ( not been to m/w since booking either!) mY ears have been oddly really hurting and my sinuses are very painful she gave me anitbiotics and antibiotic eardrops as she said both were infected and thought sinuses were too !

odd i must say but feel glad i went as feeling rough tonight

feel i wasted my toddlers nursery day by feeling poorly and doing nothing but i suppose that is what i should do at this stage

all our hall stairs and landing is in upheaval due to carpets taken up waiting for new ones next week -dp busily decorating every evening

ds1 had his first gcse today - seemed very blasé but then he is a huge swot!

measrued bump SWEETKITTY it was 33 cms high and 95.5 around
probably more tonight as have eaten for england tonight!

JODIEhavingababy · 15/05/2008 09:11

Gosh quiet on here this morning.. Where have you all gone???? HELLOOOOOOO...

Anyway, hope your all having a productive (!) morning!

I've just uploaded a picture of my 31 week bump.... Measured it last night and it's 32 cm...

Hope you are all well x

LilyToTheB · 15/05/2008 09:19

Morning all, gosh it is a quiet day!
How are you all today? The weather here has diminished somewhat, but feel like having a cosy day in anyway so I don't mind.
I couldn't sleep last night, kept waking up then couldn't get back to sleep as my mind was ticking away. So much to think about, still nagging the solicitors every day for a moving date, I just hope it's soon!

Had a mw appointment yesterday & all ok, bump measured 33cm! Apparently baby's head is down so in the right position already.

Have a nice day all

minipinkscottish · 15/05/2008 09:52

Glad everything went well at mw appointment lily Butterfly - hope the antibiotics are working and you're feeling a bit better today.
Pigley - thinking of you - I'm sure all will be fine!!

Well ds is away to school today with a very swollen nose and black swollen eyes - I did say he could stay at home but of course he wants all his mates to see what a MAN he is!! If he keeps up this rugby thing he is certainly going to have a face of character.

Have a good day all xx

CilC · 15/05/2008 10:19

Morning! Had restless night - kept getting cramps. Off to shops to get some bananas...hopefully the potassium in them will help.
My bump is transverse/breech at the moment so not really able to measure him. I do know that he is big.
I have been so organised lately that today I have got up and can not think of anything to do... It all feels too calm...I must be forgetting something!!!
Might be very decadent and go and buy a gossipy magazine or novel, a small chocolate bar and come home and read all day.

Have a great day everyone!

TJuice · 15/05/2008 10:46

a SMALL chocolate bar - how abstemious of you!

i fancy a giant cadbury's at the moment but i am trying to heed dr's advice re. avoiding swelling. trouble is, i am starvin' a lot at the moment. woke up at 5 and had to have a bowl of cheerios.

CilC · 15/05/2008 11:21

Trust me it would have been a pythonic if I did not have inflammed gall bladder and stones!

MINNIE1 · 15/05/2008 11:27

Jodie Love the bump..

Tjuice, have a bowl of cereal b4 you go to bed, i find that gets me through the night. I was always waking and i would be starving, but to lazy to get up..

Cilc, you have a nice day chilling out at home very of you. Would love a day of sitting reading and nodding to sleep and eating chocolate (i do that part anyway)Enjoy your day..

minipinkscottish, boys will be boys.. his poor nose though.

I have so far, cooked beef for DP sandwiches. Cleaned the kitchen, dusted, cleaned windows and trimmed hedge as it was wayyy over grown. OOOOO i think i maybe nesting!! plus i have dumped a whole load of Sh%t that was kept and i cant know why!..

Heffa · 15/05/2008 11:29

Just had a MW appointment and everything's still fine. BP is relatively low (for me). Baby's in the head down position so that's good to know. I was pretty sure she was so I'm feeling all chuffed with myself for being right now!

Chocolate sounds good - I keep eating loads of Waitrose strawberry laces, which is very bad for me but I'm really craving them.

Thinking of you Pigley!

minipinkscottish · 15/05/2008 11:50

Definately nesting now - have just cleaned out all the drawers and wardrobe in ds and dd's room and going to tackle the toys later. Going to give their room a good spring clean and then a lick of paint.

OP posts:
Minkus · 15/05/2008 12:03

Morning all

Well t's bucketing down with rain here today annoyingly. Wanted to plant some strawberry plants my mum gave me but that will have to wait until a dry day now.

Minipink your poor rugby playing ds- but of course mums get more worried about these things than their tough lads do, it's what makes you a mum!

Minnie1 bloody hell woman you are a housework goddess

Cilc I am mostly doing the same as you today- have bought the papers (first time in months) and a mag, have just made myself a hot chocolate with squirty cream and now all curled up on the sofa ready for a readathon. Not had time to myself where I actually feel well in aeons. Enjoy your day, we deserve it by this stage!

Going to call midwife in a bit though, my calf is really achey and a bit hot and I am a little worried about DVT. There is a history of them in the family, sure it's nothing but want to check with her all the same so I can really relax and enjoy catching up on the newspapers.

gillythekid · 15/05/2008 12:16

I've decided to have a day making lists, there's still so much for me to assemble. Need to look back over the lists for newborns and hospital bag (hope I won't be needing it!)
I have
Moses basket with 2 sets of sheets and blankets
baby bounce chair
papoose/harness (said DH can carry baby for next 9 months!)
A million white vest suits and babygros
1 pair scratch mits
electronic breast pump
sterilising unit and 1 bottle
MASSIVE incontinence pads from DH's gran (hope they'll double up as sanitary towels post birth!)
Thick night time sanitary towes

On order
Bugaboo Bee in yellow with footmuff and car seat adapters.
Nappy laundering service

Getting from best friend
Maxi cosi car seat
Changing bag and mat

Still need.......muslins, hats, breast pads, nightie, baby bath, baby towel? Lots more besides! I'm going to trawl past posts as I will not be aware of some really obvious stuff!

It's raining in London today and I'm hobbling to see the physio later, hopefully she can level the old pelvis out for a wee while. Hope everyone's health issues are being dealt with and we're all kind of coping ok, seems so near...yet so far!

Heffa · 15/05/2008 12:28

Oh, where are the lists for hospital bag? I'm trying to pack mine at the moment but really not sure what's needed.

FenLondon · 15/05/2008 13:12

five weeks and two days left till leave starts... was worried for a few days that there wasn't much movement, but was obliged with a whopping kidney whack in the wee hours... thanks LO .
Any knitters looking to tackle the "mouse circus" in Simply Knitting - spent ages on the internet last night trying to get all the colours... Bet she comes early and I don't get ANY made!

Magnums should come on the NHS.

shazaboogle · 15/05/2008 13:21

Thanks everyone for welcoming me what a nice lot you are.Im not letting my high bp get me down just looking forward to meeting lo and yes its not long now but does seem ages!

gillythekid · 15/05/2008 13:29

Oh Heffa been searching our old threads but can't locate any extensive lists but found this
cheap towels
cheap flannels
maternity pads
cheap knickers
nightie or bf pajamas (can you use a strappy jersey nighties and just pull down one side?)

Other stuff I can think of
nursing bra
breast pads
slippers
toothbrush
toiletries
Arnica (although I haven't had a baby, I've had too many operations to mention and it's amazing for healing/bruising)
dry shampoo

Presumably you need to bring stuff for baby too? I know we've done this all before but I think some of us are slightly less organised (or like me, wanting a homebirth and not wanting to tempt fate!!)

Anyone feel like going over old ground or pointing to where we can find all this? (I've tried doing a search but it just takes you to the thread and not the actual message)

isaidno · 15/05/2008 13:50

This is the list from ages ago!

Hospital Bag

For you

2 or 3 nighties or PJs
Sanitary pads (heavy duty about 2 packs)
Knickers (disposable, old or tesco value!)
Toileties - shampoo, soap, etc
Hairbrush
breast pads
Lasinoh cream (start slapping it on as soon as you are feeding to prevent sore nips)
Pampers bed mats (good for underneath you just after the birth saves you having to ask the MWs to change the sheets)
Disposable wipes for cleaning the toilet
money for phone etc.
Clothes to go home in (comfy, stretchy ones - do not pack your size 8 skinny jeans unless you are Posh Spice)
Make-up to perk yourself up for visitors

For baby

nappies, nappy sacks
cotton wool or wipes (cotton wool is useless at getting meconium off)
hat (even in July)
pair of scratch mitts
vests and babygros (number depending on how long you plan to stay - I would say at least 3 of each)
cute outfit to go home in
Muslins

Birthing bag

TENS Machine - unless you are already wearing it.
Birthing Ball - great for getting those contractions going again incase they ease off once you get to the hospital.
Old nightie / t shirt to give birth in
Pair of socks - believe it or not your feet can get really cold!
Disposable / old / cheap knickers and a couple of sanitary pads for afterwards
1 x nappy, vest and babygro & vaseline - smear it over baby's bottom before putting first nappy on. Makes the meconium very easy to get off without making baby sore.
Camera!
Some CDs so you can have whatever music you like playing in the background to help you relax.
A couple of flannels for DH to 'mop your brow' (makes him feel useful!)
2 towels (red or navy)
Some snacks to keep your energy up. I've been told those Lucozade glucose tablets are good.
Straws - rather than trying to sip from a cup and spilling water, much easier to sip through a straw whilst DH holds the cup.
List of people DH needs to phone to announce the news phonenumbers
Maternity notes and birthplan
Socks, feet get cold during labour

gillythekid · 15/05/2008 14:00

isaidno ever the pro, thank you!

tafftaff · 15/05/2008 14:12

Hey there ladies,

Took a while for us all to warm up today! Minipink...what an amazing family you have and now you are covering off gymnastics with dd. My nephew has just started gymnastics and loves it. Apparently he keeps getting told off for gossiping and not paying attention. Must be like herding cats trying to stop kids nattering, climbing on stuff and so on.

Mcchessers, I didn't know you were from Texas! I spent a year at KU and finished it off with a 10k road trip around the states and it was amazing. We ended up spending two weeks in Tyler, Texas at a timeshare complex. I must say, the people were really lovely and it did give us some of our most memorable moments:

Got stung on the thigh by a wasp.
Kept getting kicked out of the pool because kids kept pooing in it.
Got told off for calling it Tyler and not Tyyyyler!
Was a dry county so we had to drive over the county line to get booze and smuggle it back in(an everyday trip).
Found a muffler shop with the strapline, no muff too tuff!
Ate the best ribs ever!

Looks like we've all had MW appts this week. All's well with my LO too. I measure a little small at 30cm but as far as I am concerned, the smaller the better. Looks like the head is down too.

I keep chatting to other pregnant mums that are due at the same time as me and they are shocked that I haven't even got a pram yet so....this weekend is P-Day! I WILL buy the bloody thing. With both of us being analysts it has been the most painful decision making process ever! Has anyone else had the refreshing experience of chatting to really young mums? There's a couple in my antenatal classes and I find their approach so refreshing. They are totally relaxed about it, aren't going mad reading a million things and happily go to Argos and buy the travel system for £100 because it was green. I love it! No way I could be that relaxed about it though!

Sorry...didn't expect to post such a long message...back to work now!
