Babes in Scotland this year - shall we have our own thread?

Hi, I can't see any up to date antenatal threads for mums to be in Scotland, anyone want to join in this one? I think there are a few Scottish mums on the due in June thread, so I wondered if we should have our very own for all of this year's Scottish crop?

Hi everyone, yes I am serious Mcchesers about the class! It was at Millbrae.

Klaw - quick version - horrible mw, she only actually did anything for about 10 mins and spent the rest of the time out of the room/looking for things she hadn't set up in advance, and the only thing she talked about was when to call the hospital! Oh, and came up with some stuff about what would be 'done' to us - no mention of options! Tell me about Birth Choices, please!

Mcc - whenever I spot a lady with a bump Shawlands way I wonder if it's you! Yes, let's meet up sometime - maybe when I start my mat leave at the end of May if that's not too late? Good luck with the shopping for mat clothes. Looks like a nice day to be out and about.

Hope everyone is doing well today.

ahh crap! Yes Whinegums..end of May, we shall meet for coffee. So I wonder if I can get into another parentcraft class somewhere else. Maybe it's a different MW for each class.

Right, so go me. For half of my budget, I came out of H&M with three blouses and a pair of "Grande" jeans. (I'm apparently grande now)and got some cute onesies for baby mchesers.

Man, I can't walk about so much anymore I get all kinds of sore. Can say though, that I don't get that SPD..can't keep my knees together feeling after the aquanatal class.

whinegums · 16/04/2008 16:07

Fingers crossed it is a different mw - the one we ended up with won't be taking all of the sessions at least.

Well done on the shopping front - H&M's baby stuff is nice I think. As for maternity wear - I could weep... Trying to get decent stuff that fits/doesn't fall down/isn't hideous is a nightmare!!

bitofadramaqueen · 16/04/2008 21:21

mcchesers I tried on some H&M jeans the other week - they are definitely cut differently from everywhere else on the high street. I think I could barely squeeze into a 18 when I'm still comfortably fitting into a 14 from everywhere else!

With you on the weeping whinegums - maternity gear has clearly come on leaps and bounds in recent years, but its still so hard to get decent stuff quite cheaply on the high street. I wouldn't even have looked at some of my work tops in a regular shape pre-pregnancy. Although, I have got a few nice ones from H&M recently though.

Anything I've thought that looks really nice (as opposed to 'nice for maternity wear' IYKWIM) has been really expensive.

Still pleased with my jojomamanbebe boyfriend cut jeans though. I've finally found a pair of maternity jeans that dont fall down .

Klaw · 17/04/2008 18:13

Whinegums, have you thought about contacting a Doula to do a few antenatal sessions one on one? I could suggest a trainee who might be suitable....

Also there's Birth Choices as mentioned before. HTHs

whinegums · 18/04/2008 09:46

Morning all. Thanks Klaw - I'd found the Glasgow Birth Choices website before - will make an effort to go along to the May meeting (was too knackered for the April one). Anyone else going - it's pain relief options.

Thanks for the offer re doula contact as well. Do you think I'd get more info from them than I can reading up, and on mumsnet? I only wanted to get the pain relief info and a visit to the hopsital anyway.

OP posts:
mcchesers · 18/04/2008 09:54

Ok who's an idiot? I left the 20% off coupon for H&M at home yesterday. I'll just go back and get other stuff at the end of the month.

Ok some good news. Whinegums, spoke to my MW yesterday and she said for sure because she works there, that the SGH is doing waterbirths.
Period end of story. She did say that:

a)it's first come first served
b) not everyone is trained and those that
have been trained haven't had much experience if at all.

So if you are ok with that, then they just kind of let you get on with it and it's very hands off.

Klaw · 18/04/2008 10:13

Whinegums, I guess speaking to a Doula for a pain relief session would give you the chance to explore options impartially and not be told what you are 'allowed' (Ggrrrr, gets my goat that we are made to feel like we have to ask permission to birth our own babies).

I was at the April meeting and my friend, who is also a Doula, goes regularly so you would be likely to meet her at the May meeting. She had a HWBAC so she knows her stuff , there are plenty other Doulas in Glasgow to choose from, check out the Scottish Doula Network.

Not sure about arranging visit to the hospital, you could speak to Cassie and ask her what she'd advise, I imagine that there will be other mw at the May meeting...

whinegums · 18/04/2008 12:05

Mcchesers - certainly like hearing that they just let you get on with it! I did think a waterbirth would be best for not being messed about with!

Klaw - thanks for that. Yes, I get cross when I hear what I am and am not 'allowed' to do, and what will be 'done' to me! I can arrange my own visit to the hospital - but when I tried to do that, I sort of got bullied into going to the Parentcrap class! Going to go along on Monday to class number 2 - if only to see the other mums. Trying to keep an open mind....

minipinkscottish · 18/04/2008 15:05

Hi all!! Hope everyone is okay.....

My mw when filling in forms put cross through parentcraft classes and said "well you wont be wanting that then.."

Trouble is I don't "need" classes....being on number 6 I have been there and worn the t-shirt so to speak but it is nice to meet other mums going through the same as you...I would have liked it for this....

bitofadramaqueen · 18/04/2008 19:00

That's a bit presumptious of her minipink. If you want to go you should tell your mw to book you in for them.

dizzydixies · 19/04/2008 08:34

ubbed gubbed!!

northeastmummy · 19/04/2008 09:12

Hello everyone. I've not been very good at keeping up with the thread - must try harder! Those of you that have been on the April thread will know why. It's a full time occupation keeping up on there alone . I read regularly but by the time I've caught up I don't have time to post!

I'm due today but have a feeling it could be a while before this LO is coming out. Fortunately I'm not in too much of a rush and I'm quite happy to enjoy the last few days (and maybe weeks) of this pregnancy.

On ante natal classes, I didn't go to the NHS classes for either of my pregnancies so I can't really comment on them. I went to NCT classes for both (refresher this time) and they've been brilliant. I met some lovely people (hello Aberdeenhiker ).

I have to say, I was dreading them beforehand but soon got over that when I realised how useful they were going to be. The only problem is they get booked up really quickly so you need to get your name down as soon as you can.

Klaw · 19/04/2008 16:05

Jaq39,

pardon me for sticking my neb in but I just wanted to check with you your reasons for accepting induction on Tuesday. According to the World Health Organisation you are not technically overdue till the 27th, definition of term as being BETWEEN 37 and 42 weeks.

There is always the option of Expectant Management rather than risk induction on a baby who is not ready to be born yet. What were your previous gestatations? How long did your mum and grandmother carry babies for? Do you have any other valid medical reasons for getting baby born? Or perhaps you've had reasonable experiencves of induction already...

I can talk to you some more about the risks of induction if you want (can give you links etc to read for yourself), or I could butt out. I respect your choice.

Just wanted to make sure that you were making a fully informed choice. You are 'allowed' to refuse, I did . It's your body, your baby, your choice!
