Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
VintageGardenia · 07/03/2008 15:38

See the way I said I had a mountain of work to do and wouldn't be getting involved on MN today?

What's wrong with this picture...

Shazza2002 · 07/03/2008 15:50

VG - If the appointment was here (london) I wouldn't care who did the scan as long as they were capable on giving accurate results/information.

But if you'd paid for private them I presume you want the best. How long would you have to wait for another appointment with the cons?. Also, being that you have been worried about lack of movement, even though we all know there's nothing wrong, don't we ladies> would you be able to wait any longer?

Re Welsh meanign of Owen. Makes me love the name even more now!

VintageGardenia · 07/03/2008 15:57

I'm sure the mw would be able to do the scan competently and so on. I think I just feel a bit miffed because the whole point of going private was for consistency of care - which I didn't have last time - to see the same person each time so that by the time it all happens the person delivering the baby knows me inside out (so to speak ).

No - miffed is the wrong word - poor fellow is ill, it's not his fault.

Yes Owen is lovely isn't it? A well-born warrier makes me think of some fantastically muscular Celt striding round the countryside making the land safe for women and children, and one day kneeling to accept a golden circlet upon his unruly curls.

Sigh.

Shazza2002 · 07/03/2008 16:01

I understand you entirely. I had problems in my pregnancy from about 20 weeks onwards. Even though it quite cleary said in my notes what was wrong, it didn't stop me having to explain at every appointment. Plus a 20 week scan is a very important part of pregnancy. So maybe find out if you were to wait for another appointment how long would it be?. You could then make the decision whether you would want to wait that long ???

I think I have found a boys name, wooooooo. DP isn't going to like it

VintageGardenia · 07/03/2008 16:06

Yes I'll see how long would be to wait to reschedule. If they would only answer the phone now...

Lucky you with your heroic Celt! We haven't even started on the names fights yet, I'm craftily giving in on small stuff at the moment so I can put my foot down when absolutely necessary [evil cackle].

"Yes darling of course you must leave your runners on the bottom stair, if it's convenient for you that suits me fine."

"No DON'T clear up the dogshit from the garden again, surely it's my turn?"

"A-a - you leave those pesky shirts for me to iron. I've got some lovely new spray starch which I'm dying to try out."

Things are rather confusing in our house at the moment.

dizzydixies · 07/03/2008 16:12

afternoon ladies - VG, you're as bad as me for being on here but those wind up threads were annoying me to so haven't been on as much this morning! Am sorry about your consultant being ill, what a PITA. on a happier irish note I only have 8 days to wait till my Avoca delivery, or she's sleeping in the shed lol

shazza make bloomin sure you get that holiday love - you deserve it!!

poppysocks I think its lovely that you want to use the name and its very nice of you to consider their feelings. Can I just say we had similar problem with dd2's name. My dad stated that all the males in his family given the male version of the name were killed in tragic accidents before they were 30 and so we couldn't use it. I worried myself silly about it (pg brain) and in the end told him that is wasn't the same as it was the male version and our daughter was nothing to do with that stupid link as she would have dh's surname and not my maiden name - still freaked me out at the time though. You could pick any name and talk yourself out of it for some reason or another!

alittlebitshy · 07/03/2008 16:17

lol VG.
Wonder what your dh is thinking??????? something along the lines of "okay where's the real VG? This one is freaky" ??

For the first time this pregnancy I am considering takeaway tonight. Not as adventurous as chinese or indian - prob just pizza, but i've not fancied it at all til now!!! The sickess is still there, just not as bad or as dominant. I will win the battle over morning sickness!!

I'm having the opposite to you this time VG. We went private with dd and saw lovely lovely ob all the way through (only time we saw anyone else was at scans 20 weeks plus when we went to the main hospital rather than his rooms). He was fab and i loved him {although I do have an embarrasing story about one particular internal which I will tell if pressed lol) but this time a) we can't afford to go there (think central london and expensive and famous and you've prob got it), b) even if we could it is too far now in case i went into labour, and even though I'm pretty sure I want elective cs, i can see that dh is being sensible rather than unreasonable when he says that we need to play safe and go nearer. I keep getting sad cos the ob and the whole set up were just fab. This time at hosp I've only been seen once for booking in/dating scan and not yet seen a dr...

dizzydixies · 07/03/2008 16:22

ALBS you HAVE to tell now, its MN law!!!

VintageGardenia · 07/03/2008 16:27

LOL he is rather bemused, poor thing.

dd eight days!! You will find a KK a poor consolation prize if you don't get your Avoca goodies!

ALBS - consider yourself pressed. Look - you'll never be able to tell the story at a dinner party or in your dd's wedding speech etc so take chance and tell us now!!

dizzydixies · 07/03/2008 16:30

VG - am not above wanting them both!! I have to wait till April for kk - [sigh][hard done by emoticon]

dizzydixies · 07/03/2008 16:34

OMFG VG they've only gone and opened an online store

alittlebitshy · 07/03/2008 16:34

well..... it's not that funny/bad.... but i still bush when i think about it...

I have always hated the idea of internals etc (only had my first smear done a few weeks before this bfp cos I was too scared ), and when the ob did one when i was quite heaviily pg with dd I kind of closed up and he got his hand a little stuck. He has to ask me to relax .

needless to say i refused the offer of a sweep.

when i was in labour it was hard for them to know how dilated i was cos i wouldn't let them near me.

No idea why I have this fear, but i do

dizzydixies · 07/03/2008 16:39

OH albs of course you have a perfectly valid fear - its YOUR bits for goodness sake, not something you would randomly show to people on a regular basis, esp people you hardly know (well thats how I like to hope you are anyway )

am afraid by end of dd1 delivery everyone in the region had had a good old swatch of my fanjo and frankly I couldn't have cared less after 33hrs - the only advice my ever so helpful mother gave me when I told her I was pregnant was to leave my dignity at the door - nice eh?!

just right refusing a sweep - no need ever again for that horror

I was thinking you'd pumped or pee'd on them which would have made me cringe for rest of my life had it been me - am sure they realise they're going to get some of that when they chose their specialities!!

VintageGardenia · 07/03/2008 16:45

Oh ALBS horrors for you. I remember a similar thing at a smear when the (female) doc snapped "You will have to relax!" and sort of pushed my knees further apart oh God the horror.

On the PLUS side you must have fantastic pelvic floor muscles!

dd don't blow your maternity clothes budget on goodies!

Re. my boring problem just spoke to consulting rooms I can see mw on Mon and follow up week after with appt with consultant - or as soon as he's up n about again. He is actually in hosp. Perhaps should send big dose of antibiotics squirted into get well chocs to hasten his recovery.

CaptainCaveman · 07/03/2008 16:45

albs - i Just emailed you! Reply to me (by email) and then I'll order them.

dizzydixies · 07/03/2008 16:47

PMSL VG am not sure of the moral issue of giving the consulatant a 'roofied' box of chocolated but very innovative of you!!

VintageGardenia · 07/03/2008 16:50

I take that as a compliment dd

dizzydixies · 07/03/2008 16:52

as you should VG as you should!!
matty allowance safe, they don't have all the cakes online [boo][humph]

VintageGardenia · 07/03/2008 17:03

Just had a look at their site - here it is if anyone else interested - and they have only a very small proportion of their stock in the online store. Some v pretty cardigans though and sweet baby shoes, I think I've given those shoes to all nephews & nieces. NOTE they are not shoes, I don't like actual shoes for babies, but butter-soft leather socky things.

Alors, I am only 4 hours late here so better push on, luckily I wasn't on school run today or ds would still be swinging, lonely and confused, on the gate, as dusk fell.

Buckets · 07/03/2008 18:04

Heheh, I hang out on a baby names board sometimes (from when I was broody and fantasising baby names) and it's amazing how many people come on with names and get told it means something obscene in Portuguese etc. Think the most frequent one is Milena (and various spellings of same) - apparently milaena is the medical term fo 'blood in faeces.' I do know a little girl of this name irl spelled Malana (pron Malayna,) wouldn't dare tell her mum though.

dizzydixies · 07/03/2008 18:10

oohh buckets which one, I can normally be found lurking on the babycentre one - they're names daft over there - very informed and very opinionated

CaptainCaveman · 07/03/2008 18:19

You're right buckets - maleana means blood in the faeces. Nice.

Friends of mine are teachers and they have some kids in their classes with funny names. One named Power always sticks in my mind.

poppysocks · 07/03/2008 19:59

Thanks everyone for your views on the name issue. I consider myself reassured! DH will be v. grateful to you! Obviously it will depend on my parents' reaction, but I strongly suspect they will be happy with it. Oh and the baby being being a girl!

VG - your consultant's illness actually may be good. Two appointments for the price of one! You never know you might get a scan when the Dr comes back as well as with the midwife if you make him feel guilty enough!

Totally exhausted today. DH got moody when I wouldn't have nap in the day saying that I can't complain if I don't take my chances, but it's more general weariness and exhaustion. Wondering about the anaemia, but suspect it's as much because I've been working really hard and haven't had a break at all since Christmas. Who said the second trimester is easier??

dizzydixies · 07/03/2008 20:19

poppysocks I find I tend to hit a wall at certain times of day too and all I need is a wee rest. 4pm is a complete b*tch for me and unfortunately thats when my kids turn into satans spawn!!

am very impressed with your decisiveness over the names, I only got to 'C' in the name book today!! i have a few favourites but I have to flood him with choices then narrow them down, making it look like its the ones he prefers and see how we get on from there

TwilightSurfer · 07/03/2008 20:28

Well good evening ladies. So glad I could pass Owen on. It had really grown on me. Someone please put it to good use.

Saw OB/GYN this morning. Basic visit...pee in a cup and say hi. My next visits will be just as boring (until week 28 when I have to do the sugar test YUK).

Still working on girl names with DH. He's been in meetings all day so we've been texting ideas. I like Claire Lauren...he likes Lauren Claire WE ARE NEVER GOING TO AGREE!!!!! Forgot till this morning that I like Maggie but can't figure out a middle name to go with it. Dizzy, I'm sorry to say Ella has been taken off the list because it's too close to Emma which is my niece's name (how on earth did I not make that connection until now?).

Went maternity shopping today. Found nothing except a cute pair of earrings that I decided to put back because THAT WASN'T WHAT I WAS SUPPOSE TO BE SHOPPING FOR. Hopefully I have better luck tomorrow.
