I'm doing my pelvic floor exercises just want something to stop the cough before i scream.

Josie57 · 19/03/2008 08:42

Morning all - where is everyone today?

Deb - we miss your early morning posts welcoming us to a new day and another day closer to seeing our little ones!

goingfor3 · 19/03/2008 08:43

Morning ladies,

DP had booked the time between good friday and thursday next week as holiday but they are so busy at work his leave has been cancelled . He is still off Good friday and easter monday but it's a real shame he's not off the other days especially as not all schools are off next week so it would have been a good time to go to chessington.

I'll try my best to breathe the baby out then but I'm so impatient that i know I will just push as hard as I can so I can meet my baby asap!

sophiewd I have had a cough for over 6 weeks now. After three weeks I got some antibiotics but they didn't really help and it didn't sdtart to get better until about a week after I stopped taking them. DOesn't really help you much but you are not alone!

debinaustria · 19/03/2008 08:44

Sophie, I read that if you support your bump when you cough/sneeze it reduces leakage - I tried it and it does help. Don't know how to get rid of the cough though - sorry

debinaustria · 19/03/2008 08:46

Josie - cross posted - I'll be back to my early morning posts next Wednesday. As Mum's here I don't have to rush to get up with the boys in the morning so I'm having a very relaxing time!!Think we're off out somewhere today on the train.

Josie57 · 19/03/2008 08:47

If it's a tickly cough then a spoonful of honey can help ease the tickle by coating your throat for a while. It's an old fashioned idea but it does help - my dh has a cough at the moment and has been using this. Plus it means less cough medicine.

Josie57 · 19/03/2008 08:48

Debs- I wasn't telling you off just wanted you to know that it's nice coming on in the morning to find that someone has posted!

Hope you have a lovely day

sophiewd · 19/03/2008 09:08

Thanks for you help. I am off on an expedition into town today so will go to chemist for some advice and thicker pads if they can't help think I will go to Doctor, woke up again last night for a toatal of about 3 hours and really struggling during the day and don't want to do that yet.

LauraT · 19/03/2008 09:33

Josey, keep taking the iron, you're still a little anaemic. doctors irritatingly sometimes drop the decimal point, so 112 is the same as 11.2!

Sophie, depends on what kind of cough you have? If you're coughing up any unpleasant green or yellow gunk (sorry ladies) then you should see your GP as you may need ABs. honey is good for a tickly cough, and probably just as good as they cough medicines, tickly cough ones don' do much, just suppress the reflex - they don't make the cough go away any quicker IMO.

regarding students - which I seem to have started a heated debate on - I don't think I mind midwifery or nursing students, just medical ones!

claphamkitten · 19/03/2008 11:03

I too have had a cough for about 2 weeks now, and keep waking myself up 3 or 4 times a night - so am exhausted!!! I have found large numbers of Soothers help, as, while you're sucking them, the urge to cough seems to go away... That's my (non-medical) advice anyway!

Hope you feel better.
x

sophiewd · 19/03/2008 11:12

I have some linctus - honey makes me gag - so will see how that goes.

My MW reccommended having a student MW in if you wanted to as they would be with you the whole labour and could give Dad a break if he needed, fag/coffee/loo and they have to learn somehow

basilbrush · 19/03/2008 11:49

Morning Ladies -

Horray we break up for the Easter hols today! Though, bloody hell, 3 people have asked me if I'm stopping work now and looked really shocked when I said I had at least 10 weeks to go yet.... Everyone is saying "Ooh you are really big". So much for worrying about size of baby!!!!!!!

DH said this morning that I look like I did at full term with DS. I told him to Feck Off and acutally I am "only" 5 weeks bigger. I remember mesuring 28 cms at 33 weeks with DS. But then he only weighed 5lbs for cyring out loud!!

Very nervous about this weekend as my real dad is bestowing us with his presence. I don't see him very often (my parents spilt up when i was 3 as he slept with my childminder!!! She is now my stepmother) The last time he came up was for 3 hours when DS was born in 2006. This time is staying over on Easter Sunday. This will be the first time in my 29 years that I have actually cooked a meal for my own father. Mad.

makecakesnotwar · 19/03/2008 12:53

Good luck with that BB- it's so odd actually spending time with a parent who you don't ordinarily have much to do with. I know what it feels like.

I have also had a cough/cold for four weeks now that doesn't seem to want to go fully...lots of sniffs and half coughs. Agree with Debs that supporting the bump when you cough helps- have been coughing so much recently that I get a pain across the bump if I don't. Just drinking lots of fluid and waiting to see whether it leaves me first, or the baby...

Read some very sad news of a mner on pg after mc thread today, whose baby was stillborn at 39 weeks. Sobbed my heart out. The baby also seemed to know I needed reassurance and has been kicking madly ever since.

In other news I picked up my new glasses which look fab, though will take a bit of getting used to. [mc whispers very quietly so as not to jinx it...we may also have sold our house]

Afternoon all
Went to the doc this morning and she said I am anaemic and prescribed me iron and folic acid tablets, so fingers crossed.
She said she was aiming for them to have the least possible effect on my poor digestion and these ones aren't prescribed much because GPs don't know about them - turns out she's right - none of the chemists have them in and have to wait til tomorrow for order to come in!
Anyway, got her to feel for the baby and we had a right giggle cos she (bambino) kept wriggling around and refusing to be felt. Anyway, she's still head down, in ROA position, which is good and from all the bits GP could feel, is getting quite big now .
GP is trained in obstetrics so am going to ask for her from now on if it's something baby-related as she seems more clued up than my own doc - and v nice too :-)

bitofadramaqueen · 19/03/2008 13:46

hi everyone - bb if it makes you feel better I have NEVER cooked a meal for my father. And I'm quite close to him! Then again, I could count on one hand the number of meals (excluding breakfast) that I have cooked for my DH...

Laura LOL at the student debate. You'll wish you never 'fessed up to being a doc! I don't generally mind students - it's just after my experience last year, I think some of them could do with extra lessons in sensitive questioning before they are let loose on the public!

Sophie hope your cough clears up soon! I'm going through a phase of feeling rather, ahem, 'gassy' when I laugh to much , so of course DH takes great delight in making me laugh!

My storksak bag arrived this morning - am delighted with it! As I suspected, its probably not big enough to use except for short outings but I'm planning to buy a cheapy unisex messenger style changing bag that DH can use and could always get chucked in bottom of pram/back of car as needed. If anyone sees one let me know! I did see one a while ago for about £25 but cant remember where.

Also did a bit of clothes shopping today. Went to Gap maternity - bit disappointed and didn't get anything. However they had some very soft stretch 'pima' t-shirts in different styles and I got a few of those in a couple of sizes bigger than normal. V comfy and will do for kicking about at the weekend with jeans/joggers.

thegreenfairy · 19/03/2008 13:48

Sorry, what I meant was, GP trained in obstetrics before she decided to be a GP. So is a great person to have for check ups right now.

josey · 19/03/2008 14:24

BB hope it goes ok on sunday for you, I had a similar situation last sunday with my FIL DH has just made up with him after basically no contact for 30 years.

Makecakes (whisper congrats to you)

Thanks Laurat I was wondering that myself later on, It hasnt changed since my last set of results even with taking Iron so wondering if they gave me the wrong ones!I also read while surfing last night that 11 is ok as the worst time to take blood to test for Iron while pregnant is 26-34 weeks so I should ask for another test later incase this hinders my hope for HB.

Waves to everyone else its quiet today

Rolf · 19/03/2008 15:05

I'm another one with a cough. I've had it for about a month and am continually hawking up lovely yellow globs. Vile phlegmy things sseem to be a characteristic of this pregnancy (I had sinusitis over Xmas). I'm seeing the midwife tomorrow so maybe she'll refer me to my GP and speed things up a bit.

I have a vomiting bug and feel terrible. I'm having bloods taken tomorrow and for the past few weeks have been keeping an eye on my diet and taking fluradix in the hope of boosting my iron levels, and now all my good work is undone, I expect.

mellymell · 19/03/2008 15:39

Hiya tout la monde.

Sophie and Rolf - I am starting to feel the effects of DH's cold and cough on myself too - he's still hawking and spitting through the night - makes sleep very difficult for both of us, and now I think I'm going down with it. Am jealous that at least he can od on night nurse whereas I'm stuck with lousy paracetamol. And will I get any sympathy once I'm in the throws of a cold - will I feck (and I'm not even Irish!). Humph. Don't remember ever having so many coughs and colds before in my life.

Rolf - poor you. have a nice juicy steak tonight with spinnach, followed by a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice - that should help the iron levels.

Ditto for GreenFairy

Makecakes (whisper - well done)

basilbrush · 19/03/2008 16:46

Wow - amazing news going for 3

Just goes to show they can't always be sure. In fact, in some hospitals up here they refuse to even hazard a guess at the gender as they are sick of being sued!!

I had a friend this happened to but she only found out at birth and they'd painted room bright pink with fluffy hearts etc At least you've got time to sort stuff out

I'm going for a Kinder Surprise again but it will take lots of will power not to look too closely at growth scan in a fortnight's time!!

Right off to pick up my wee man from nursery

BB xx

josey · 19/03/2008 16:47

Wow G43 how do you feel about that it must be a bit of a shock?! were they not sure when they told you it was a girl? I remember your last scan you saying they looked a bit confused.

I have just had my DH drooling over a pink Man U grow bag saying Daddys Girl Daddys team HELP!!!lol

I have had the cold for 3/4weeks now just wont clear maybe thats why although Ive been taking Iron and Floradix my level has remained the same plus oj greens leaf veg steak etc

Mellymel hope you manage to ward off the cold.

Keep meaning to ask has anyone had there brown line appear down there tummy yet? mine is poping out along with the spreading belly button nice!

mellymell · 19/03/2008 16:55

How exciting G43 - however, the reason they might get a bit confused on the gender basis is sometimes girls' 'bits' get a bit swollen in the womb which makes them look like testicles!

Personally, with DS1 I was told by everyone that I was going to have a girl and had quite a surprise when I lifted up the child on my chest to realise he had meat and two veg! This time the sonographer had to really search to find out the sex - doesn't bode well for DS2's porn career!

nettiehay · 19/03/2008 17:03

Hi All,
G43 - congrats! I guess it's better to find out now instead of after decorating everything pink!!
Josey - no line on my belly yet, but I have the spreading belly button thing too - much to my horror I think it's going to pop out soon!
