Have read all your info on matresses and think I will buy a new one....would be different if I knew where it came from but I don't and is better to be safe than sorry. WIll order one for delivery next week, and take the other to the tip all whilst DH is at work then he is none the wiser....

deb, we must be spin twins or something. how weird but gtting same scan. re thermal baths - donno, Obv sauna etc out. but this is due to temp. he said infection risk? why are thermal baths worse than eg swomming pool? sorry I can't goiive an answer.SO what've you told the boys? That they couldn't tell or that it might be girl (but might not be)? Didn't ds2 go with you?

mc, I agree, if you don't know who's used the matress/how many kids/how old it is etc, I'd change it too.

Had to take ds1 & 3 to eye doctors this am and had to pin ds3 down 4 times for them to put painful eye drops in. ds1 had little sympathy as I was holding onto ds3 (they got drops at same time). poor little souls. Now their pupils are as big as saucers (still not shrunk back!). now have the ordeal of getting glasses for ds3. He's said he wants "rainbow ones*. . His eyes are worse than we thought last week, and still shocked he's got to 4.5 not dx

dm you showed me also link to socks. Think they're very cute, and iterested in making them, if you could possibly also give me explanation/idiot version of instructions

debinaustria · 05/03/2008 16:49

Ernest - we told the boys just what the Dr had said, that he thought a girl but couldn't be sure. Ds2 watched the scan but NIgel took him out when the Dr did an internal!! - checking the position of the cervix.

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 05/03/2008 17:06

LOL about your mum Makecakes! I don't want to brag but my mum is GREAT - she is coming to stay with us for a couple of weeks after the birth (longer if we need her). I won't want her to go home. I have told DH not to bother with paternity leave till after she goes! Good news on the glucose test MC.

Rolf, I was going to get a hypnobirthing CD (The Jeyarani Way: Prepare for a natural birth with Self-hypnosis and Visualisation by Dr Gowri Motha has been recommended) but if you want me and DH to come to hypnobirthing classes with you and split the cost we'd be well up for it. How much are we talking? email me n i n a k i l l e n @ googlemail.com (no spaces!) if you want.

Er, belly buttons? I can't even see mine any more! It has disappeared to the nether side of my bump. It is an outy though, has been for a while. I quite like it - I think my tummy will be in such a state after the DTs come out that the belly button will be the least of my worries!

Welcome lh!

bitofadramaqueen · 05/03/2008 18:58

Evening all! Can feel a hormonal meltdown coming on... any tips on avoiding it?

Have already had a minor rant at my poor Beleaguered DH for no particularly good reason but it hasn't abated the feeling that I'm like a bubbling volcano about to explode.

Its bound to end in tears...

sophiewd · 05/03/2008 19:17

Bitofadramaqueen - yes

Neenz - good idea about paternity leave and your mum,I think with twins it is even mpre important to try and get into some sort of routine as eraly as possible.

bitofadramaqueen · 05/03/2008 20:12

drama queen-esque tantrum averted! Lovely DH made me laugh so much it stopped me feeling angry/teary and then he went out and bought chocolate!

PregnantPenguin · 05/03/2008 21:07

bitofadramaqueen - loved your posts. Read them out loud to my DH who pointed out that he'd stocked the cupboard with cupboard - bless our menfolk!

I find even though I want to scream and shout if I go for a hug, even if I still end up crying, the anger disappears and I feel a lot better. That's fine for home, at work I go and hide in the toilet.

Ernest - As a kid I used to cry out eye drops so much I used to have to have them put in again and again and again. I can still remember how much I hated it so thinking of your little ones.

My bump is HUGE, if this is the size for my first one I'm terrified what it'll be like if I ever have another. Someone accidentially (but quite rightly) called it a lump rather than bump the other day, nearly had a complete meltdown....!

ernest · 05/03/2008 22:14

exactly pp, that was part of problem. The drops to dilate pupils burn and are painful, so they 1st gave pain killing drops, which of course ds3 cried out, so he effectively had the drops with no pain killers, and had to have even more cos he was crying. Hope his pupils are normal tomorrow - they both look weird.

pmsl, lump! Charming. I feel offended on behalf of lumpy ladies everywhere.

Actually I strongly recommend loving and enjoying your bump as much as possible. COme June and it's suddenly an empty jelly belly, with people still asking when it's due (as you're pushing the pram - then we'll all be missing it, no matter how big and uncomfy, lol

bitofadramaqueen · 05/03/2008 23:04

Thanks PP - ended up crying uncontrollably eventually. All better now though .

debinaustria · 06/03/2008 06:34

Morning everyone

It's a beautiful day here, the sun is shining on the fresh snow - one of those days when I miss skiing!!

This afternoon we have a monk coming to stay for 2 nights and 6 students from an American Franciscan University in Austria. Should be interesting.

Rough night last night, in my wisdom I said ds2 could get in our bed with us as he was wheezy with a bad cough - result he slept well and we tossed and turned all night waking with every cough. The bed used to be plenty big enough but with the ever increasing bump it was a squeeze!

Hope everyone's Ok today

makecakesnotwar · 06/03/2008 09:45

Morning Debs- not such a bright day here, sadly, but then we haven't had inches of snow. Been meaning to ask how you ended up in Austria...

DQ- hope you are feeling brighter today. DH doesn't really understand enough to even go with the chocolate defence, though will hug if I ask...I think the whole pregnancy thing has totally baffled him. I cried when he left for work today.

Rough night here- the cold has settled on my chest, the dog started gradually edging me out of the bed and I was woken by a starving bump at 6am...again. I wouldn't mind but my abiity to nap in the middle of the day seems to have gone awol. Good training, I guess.

Sawon the breakfast news that there is a condition called 'mum-nesia' or post-baby forgetfulness. Should I be worried, second/third/fourth time mums??

OP posts:
debinaustria · 06/03/2008 09:54

Yes Makecakes - I totally believe in Mum-nesia - I was terrible, especially after the birth of my first(sorry)

We ended up in austria because we fancied doing something completely different with our lives, had to be somewhere with skiing and where we could afford to buy a business. I have to admit though that it's not all roses, and we do have regrets at times.

Saying that though, ds1 has finished school early today, so dh has taken him skiing to practice for the school ski race tomorrow.

Jood · 06/03/2008 11:23

Morning all

Mumnesia is a fact. It actually starts in pregnancy and three years after DD appeared I still haven't recovered any capability. DH is always telling me he told me about stuff which I simply can't remember him mentioning. Or is he just making it up to cover his own hide?

Meanwhile DD has chicken pox. I find the spots on her face quite distressing, am praying she doesn't scratch and scar. However she is sleeping and eating OK so I guess she doesn't have it too bad. Am having to take time off work to look after her which is not making me popular with colleagues, especially after I had 2 months off last year with pregnancy sickness!!

On the up side, my blood test for obstetric cholestasis came back negative, which is good. Still itching like crazy tho.

And how is everyone else today?

Hoggle · 06/03/2008 11:55

Hi everyone,

Taking me ages to catch up with all your news, but glad you're all doing ok. I too am having a minor belly button crisis - still an inny, but definitely less inny than before! Don't know why it bothers me, but it does .

Debs, sorry you're still in the dark about the sex, won't be long now till you get to see for yourself!

Jood, chicken pox is going round the kiddies here at the moment too, it must be hard for them not knowing why they can't scratch when they're itchy.

Had a midwife checkup this week and mentioned I'd been getting kind of 'bruised' feelings up on the top of my bump. She reckons it's too early to be the baby nudging up there, and says it's probably my bowel [shudder emoticon]. More bran flakes for me I guess!

bitofadramaqueen · 06/03/2008 12:41

Hoggle, yuk at the thought of my bowel at teh top of my bump. I was wondering the other week what was filling out the top of my bump when the baby was clearly much lower. I think I'd prefer not to know .

Feeling much better this morning everyone... Damn these bloody pregnancy hormones. I'm not called 'a bit of a drama queen' for nothing, but episodes like last night really take the biscuit. It was horrible because I knew that the evening was going to end in tears but despite best efforts it couldn't seem to be averted. My DH has the patience of a saint at the best of times but it breaks my heart when not only am I hurting his feelings but I can actually see myself doing it. .

Ah well, its over for now (till the next time...)

Jood - good news on the test results.

PiggyPenguin · 06/03/2008 13:02

I would definitely agree about the mum-nesia, and that it appears during pregnancy. Actually I find it worse during pregnancy that afterwards, my dh calls it pregnancy brain. His personal favourite way that this manifests itself in our house is when I start putting things in odd places, eg. bread in the fridge rather than the cupboard. It makes him laugh when he'll go to cupboard and there is something totally bizarre in there that I have 'put away' absent mindedly.

bitofadramaqueen · 06/03/2008 13:11

I always keep my bread in the fridge. DH would find it quite odd if he found it in the cupboard!

thegreenfairy · 06/03/2008 13:19

Afternoon all.
Am totally shattered after the flooding craziness of the last couple of days. Just got NO energy and now have a headache, which is most unlike me. Feeling a bit sorry for myself as I am just SO tired.

All is going well bumpwise, but I suspect my stomach muscles have now separated as when I sat up in the bath this morning there was a definite ridge in the middle. Must remember to lever with arms.

Am picking up a freecycle cot at the weekend (new mattress natch) and buying a birth pool off my pal who never used hers (two breech babies...) for half price, so the scrimping and saving continues.

Knitting is going well - DMPO - did you ever post that pattern correction?

Righto, off to the bank to move some money around, and home early I think to collapse.

Still, spa tomorrow - and my pal has found a four hours for the price of two offer, so we are chuffed!

bitofadramaqueen · 06/03/2008 13:43

Eeek! Bowels in belly, permanently fudged brains and now split stomach muscles .

aberdeenhiker · 06/03/2008 13:54

greenfairy - how ridgy was your ridge? If your bump just goes triangle-shaped then I don't think they've really separated as mine did that last time and went back to 'normal' nicely (after a while). The triangle belly does look weird though! I've got it back again...

Scrimping and saving sounds wonderful but we're just about to buy a new car that we can fit two car seats in. We've only got a polo and we can't fit a car seat behind my husband because the backseat is so small. Oh well, the car is 12 years old anyways and otherwise we don't have any major expenses (besides the 2nd car seat - DS is still in the stage 0/1 seat we bought when he was born!) this time around.

nettiehay · 06/03/2008 14:20

Hi All,
Just had a call from DP saying the landlord was visitng to fix the doorbell (which broke two years ago, but we forgot to mention it until recently!). I got DP to ask if we can put up another shelf in the kitchen, as we have no storage space and will need more once we get sterilisers etc, and thankfully he said that's fine. I am absurdly pleased at his response!
I was having stitch-like pains high up under my right ribs, and I've been assured by a 3Xmum at work that it is probably indegestion in my stomach - as that's where it is now! Yeuch!

thegreenfairy · 06/03/2008 14:37

Urgh to all the organs in the wrong place. I've been trying not to think about it, but I do get my usual tummy rumbles very high up these days!

Aberdeenhiker - that's what mine was like - a triangle - not really prominent, but have never seen it before so it freaked me a bit. Very reassuring to hear your experience. Frantic goodling this morning resulted in the info that about a third of women experience it in pregnancy - am not hugely worried, but it wasn't exactly a nice surprise.

DH currently on a rescue mission to collect me from work as am too tired and headachy to function . Hopefully an afternoon in bed will sort it. I feel sooo drained.

ernest · 06/03/2008 15:20

I've also felt mega tired again these last few days. I put it down to all the rushing around, rather than pg, but starting to wonder.... i didn't wake up till 7.30 this morning (ds1 & 3 have to leave for school at 7.40) I nearly had a heart attack. Luckily they had both got up, dressed and breakfast and ds1 even had his coat on ready to leave, bless. I have told them to wake me up if I don't .... Tinkeli has been VERY active today, wriggliest yet.

I lost 3/4 of my brain finction back in 1999 btw. I'm not sure it ever fully returns. DH is back tomorrow, thank God. I need a break and an adult to talk to. He's been in Turin & Paris this week so not been able to contact much

Hope you get a good rest everybody who's tired.

Deb, we got no snow. It did snow the last couple of days, but not lie. It's very cold and very bright and sunny tho. But poor ds1 & 3's pupil's still dilated, so bit uncomfy for them really. Nice for me tho. Went down to Rhine and fed the ducks in the lovely sun, with ds3 hogging my prescription sunglasses. Given the poor child has been blind for the last 4.4 years, seemed churlish to refuse.

dylansmumplusone · 06/03/2008 15:54

so frustrated! woke myself and ds up from a lovely nap (he's been waking up all hours and i'm so tired i just can't function) to rush to the midwife at 2pm only to find out they're no longer doing a clinic at my surgery at i was supposed to get a letter! a letter, how unreliable is that, surely if you had an appointment booked it would warrant a phone call!! plus the new clinic is over twice as far away and very inconvenient to get to.

greenfairy the problem with the pattern is that it tells you to knit the side strips of the top the same length as the middle section of the bottom. however because of the lattice work at the top this makes it quite a bit too long to attach without looking weird and bulky. (it calls for 5" each not counting lattice work - i reckon if you do 5" on the bottom you would do 5 1/4 WITH the lattice to allow for your foot). if this doesn't make sense send me an email (susieq_cdn at yahoo dot com) and i'll explain it better.

i also keep my bread in the fridge. dh used to think i was nuts until he saw how much fresher it stays!

i def have preg-brain worse this time than with ds. i feel like it's a miracle i get out of bed and get dressed in the am!
