Right girls, i'm off out for my spa day/overnight, so no chatting too much while I'm gone! Well, more like, nobody go dropping their LO so i miss all the excitement!

Sleeping in the spare room has def improved my quality of sleep overnight, even if still interrupted by toilet visits.
Don't like the sound of thrombosed piles skidoodle and don't want to google it!

Went out for a meal to TGIs on Sat evening, managed a whole 3 courses but LO didn't appreciate the soundtrack and kicked me through most of it. They also gave us a table as far away from the toilets as possible, so had to cross my legs towards the end as i didn't want to risk beating my way through the crowds too many times!
Baby was kicking like mad during the night which was unusual for him - are we supposed to tell the m/ws if we get more activity than normal rather than less?
Finally had noticeable BHs yesterday evening as well, which i put down to another afternoon lounging in the birthing pool Suffering for it this morning with aches - not periody pain, just stomach achey style, which i suppose is normal too?

marchmum make sure you're drinking plenty of water, if you get dehydrated they'll hurt a hell of a lot more!

fitnfortyone · 18/02/2008 08:43

ps, still haven't packed a "hospital" bag due to a) home birth and b) using the case tonight for the spa break! Will get an emergency bag ready after tomorrow....had one packed for the baby for a couple of weeks but have been putting off doing my own!
Think it's because i hadn't got lots of the stuff on it (like nursing bras?) or didn't want to pack things like my ipod/magazines as i'm using them daily

piggyp · 18/02/2008 08:43

Skidoddle - sorry to hear your sad news. My great uncle died recently and I decided not to go to his funeral - for the same reasons as you said. I'm pretty certain he would have thought it ridiculous for me to travel 'in my condition', in fact I think he would have been cross. I felt bad but it was the right decision. I made sure I had a quiet. think about him at the right time

Marchmum - I think we are due on the same day and you sound in exactly the same state as me - except I haven't had a weekend in a hotel! I definately feel like I have a massive list of things to do. I also seem to be suffering similar constipation probs, ate loads of high fibre stuff + curry yesterday. Has not had the effect I was hoping for!

e14mum · 18/02/2008 10:30

Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one suffering in area... I have to remind myself every day to go have a good try or else I'm in agony! I thought this was supposed to happen AFTER baby arrived.

JFly · 18/02/2008 10:32

Skidoodle - v sorry about your great uncle. It sounds like your family is v understanding if you can't go, so hope you don't stress too much.

HQ - no more scary falls, please! Glad to hear it wasn't too serious. I'm actually quite suprised I haven't fallen over - I am so clumsy.

OH, the first of my NCT bunch had her baby this morning! She was due the day before me (6th March) so it's all go. I have no BH or any other feelings of imminent labour, so pretty sure I'm in for the long haul. But, bags are packed and trying to finish up last of house jobs so that we're basically ready. Wish I had more of an idea of when it's all going to happen!

Just in case, took my notes and small hospital bag with us this weekend as we went to the Cotswolds. Lovely weekend, although we showed up at hotel and it was a total dump so nearly ended up with no accomodation for us and our two dogs at 8pm on Friday! Luckily found somewhere for both nights. Probably last time we'll be able to be that spontaneous.

SpaceHopperHayls · 18/02/2008 10:44

Skidoodle, I'm sorry for your loss, and hope that your family are understanding about your decision not to attend. It sounds like the sensible option to me.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Lots of Branston Hicks () and baby squirming, and I am pretty sure that the bump has dropped a bit now. 38 weeks today, so I suppose that it could be anytime now, a thought that excites and terrifies me at the same time.

Plus, would like to invite you all to join me in some virtual birthday cake, stuffed full of all of the things we are craving. 26 today!

Glammama · 18/02/2008 10:56

Happy Birthday, SHH!

Sorry to hear about your great uncle Skidoodle

Also sorry to hear about your constipation, ladies. Ouch.

I have just come back from hospital and yet another scan (everything's fine) and he's still breech. I could have told them that!!! Still, I got to see my son's fine pair of balls swinging out to the side . Made me laugh, anyway.

Enjoy your Monday, everyone, I'm off for a lie down. Only 10 days to go!!!!

MarchMum · 18/02/2008 11:04

Happy Birthday SHH!

Do you realize that with the exception of a few of us - Glam and Lauren - we will all just miss Mother's Day?? :.)

Am starting a 'down there' club, but hopefully no one else needs to join. I am quite surprsied about it as well e14 bc I always thought it was after. I had a friend tell me that parts of the constipation bit were worse than labour for her!

piggyp, yes we are EDD twins, wanna bet on who goes first? :.)

My bh has settled down quite a bit but can comiserate with those of you having them! They are good for little except practising your breathing.

Have a good Monday everyone!

feedmenow · 18/02/2008 11:06

Happy Birthday Hayls!!!! What sort of virtual cake is on offer?

I feel really sick....have been a veggie for 14 years but just really fancied a bacon roll, so ate one! Regretting it now!

Glammama · 18/02/2008 11:14

feedmenow.......bacon was my downfall too. Don't beat yourelf up. I've just managed to scoff two thirds of a Sainsburys Gala pie. For those healthy people whi don't know what it is, it's a pork pie with a hard boiled egg in it. And I was only supposed to have a little slice before lunch

JFly · 18/02/2008 11:35

Happy Birthday, SHH, you young person, you!

I have some RL blueberry muffins I can hand out to you all, but not quite the same as a gooey birthday cake. Speaking of, you all should try the Nigella malteser cake for your next celebration. It is super easy to make and looks so cute dotted with maltesers on top. Think it's from "Domestic Goddess".

Not to put you off your virtual cake, but I've just had the honour of washing the first of many poopy bums. No, not a baby bum, a puppy bum. He's had "issues" for the last day. Urrgh. Just try to get a squirmy mutt into the bath whilst 9 months pregnant. Think I threw my back out. Not fun!!!

Much easier to stomach if it's your PFB, right??

MarchMum · 18/02/2008 12:03

I have been a 90% veggie before pg and once pg, craving meat like mad. Must be protein needs. I love bacon.

PS to down there club, tmi alert everyone else...have been having success with senokot extra strength. prob not medically advisable but one a day has been a godsend this weekend.

Paranoid1stTimer · 18/02/2008 13:21

Happy Birthday SSH!!

Skidoodle sorry to hear about your great uncle.

How annoying about missing mother's day... This will be my 1st mother's day without my mum so maybe it is just as well I miss it anyway. Might have been too bittersweet.

I am 36 weeks now and STILL haven't packed the hospital bag. I was gonna do it today - we'll see. Due to the agonizing BH I have been starting to pack it in the middle of the night DURING the BH's j-uuuuuu-st in case they are real contractions but as soon as they ease off and I manage to get back into bed and fall asleep, I tend to forget all about it. I've got everything (I think) and I have made a list so I will pack it asap... Or should that be asaicbb (as soon as I can be bothered).

What do you do about getting stuff sterile in the hosp as soon at the LO is born? I mean like do you have to take in your own breast pump if you wanna express if the baby doesn't feed straight away or do you just leave that at home for now? I only ask cos I have been told since I have GBS (discovered because the doc tested me way back at 28 weeks when placenta came away a bit and had some heavy bleeding) so I will have to stay in with the baby so they can monitor LO to make sure the antibiotics take effect...

SpaceHopperHayls · 18/02/2008 13:41

Thank you for all the happy birthdays

Off into the village now to forage for some actual birthday treats as the virtual ones have left me hungry. Bloke cooking steak for birthday dinner, and I am going to go wild and let him cook mine medium well rather than well done. (Usually, when I eat beef, which isn't very often, it would be practically still mooing... Sorry veggies)
I'm going to treat myself to something sticky and incredibly fattening, then curl up on the sofa with it and one of my new books.

Paranoid - I did mine last Monday, which was my 37 week point. You've still got loads of time to get it done...

MarchMum - I'm in your club, alas.

spugs · 18/02/2008 13:50

i havent packed my bag yet but most of the stuff is in the same draw ready to go. were off to the lakes this weekend (about 2 1/2 hours from here) i reckon 4 weeks before due date is proberbly the latest i should leave it. though the dh would love another cumbrian born child

bh are stepping up a gear but i reckon thats down to the rasp leaf tea. definitly get more on an night but its because im sitting around so notice them more.

bought the worlds biggest pants yesterday thought i d get the full ones for after the birth and there humongus! they come half way up to my armpits

Glammama · 18/02/2008 13:52

I have no idea about the breast pump paranoid I'd check with the hospital. The first item I packed in my bag was a packet of anti bacterial wipes. I've told DP he's to wipe wherever I go

Sorry to hear about your first Mother's Day without your mum.

Glammama · 18/02/2008 13:53

That should be wipe before I go anywhere, not after

turtle23 · 18/02/2008 14:02

I think in my hospital they provide sterilised pumps. I don't want to be too doom and gloom, but I would be tempted to bring my own and steriliser if I knew I was staying in...and (like Glam) I'd bring wipes and anti-bacterial hand gel, and...well...you know those suits they wear when decontaminating? In case you hadn't guessed I'm a bit paranoid about hospital cleanliness.

JFly · 18/02/2008 14:24

Right, guess I need to bake some high-fibre virtual bran muffins for all you poor folks suffering "down there".

Oh, and thanks for reminding me about ani-bac wipes - they were on my list, but still need to buy those.

And just my luck, I'm now cleaning up after both my pukey dogs. What a day!

merryberry · 18/02/2008 15:15

I'm sorry to hear about your great uncle Skidoodle.

Happy birthday Hayls, I love the sound of the sofa surfing + treats.

Para, i wouldn't worry about taking a breast pump in TBH if, heaven forfend, your baby can't initially suckle (like mine in NICU) the hospital should have some industrial grade pumps which are much better (effective) to use, they supply all relevant attachments and sterile bits.

Ditto whatever feed method they use instead, they will supply, e.g ds1 had drip, then I did naso gastric feeds, then i cup fed him and tried and failed at hossie supplied bottle feeds (think it was too fast flow for him) before he went to the breast properly when my milk finaly came in on day 6/7. I was epxressing in the interim, and getting maybe 5-10ml of colostrum if I was lucky and adding that to whichever tasty snack fromt he menu above was on...

Still ROFL at glam having to qualify the wiping order

Fitn41 what an eye opener this birth pool sitting malarkey is...I have a whole new lease of life in me now...don't go to bed so early to ease achy joints, sleep better when i do go. How long is the longest/most often you've gone in so far?? God, they are wonderful.

derah · 18/02/2008 15:46

For the ladies looking for antibacterial stuff... I found some spray in Sainsbury's called Matrons (!) while looking for antibacterial wipes and/or hand wash. But this stuff is kinda like a 2-in-1... it's a spray for hands and surfaces, and then you wipe the surface afterwards. And a nice small bottle cos hopefully none of us will be in hossie long enough to need a big one. So I got one of those in case (god forbid) I end up in hospital, so I can spray everyone and everything with it!

Lots of BH yesterday after a 'grown up nap' with DH in the afternoon, but nothing today. Something is always aching though so I'm very keen for LO to show up. Labour might not be fun but at least it's over relatively quickly. I'm tired of being in pain all the time!

Enough whining, I've just remembered I've got some Ben and Jerry's frozen yogurt in the freezer......

feedmenow · 18/02/2008 15:48

Glam, never knew you were having such problems that your DP needs to follow round after you with the wipes

PurlyQueen · 18/02/2008 16:13

Sorry to hear about your great uncle, Skidoodle.

I'm reaching the end of my tether at work. Now the baby's head has started to engage, my pubic area aches like mad and I'm finding walking, sitting and lying down extremely difficult. I just want to nest and rest at home now.

Met a friend for brunch and some light shopping in Marylebone and Oxford Street yesterday. Managed to buy some black towels in Primark before admitting defeat and limping back to my car before driving home.

BHs are becoming increasingly uncomfortable. I know what you mean about being tired of being in pain all the time, derah!

SpaceHopperHayls · 18/02/2008 16:50

Glam, I think that's really public spirited of you, getting DH to wipe up in the hospital...

Yum, am all caked up now, and splodged on sofa with Boy Dog. When they are all sleepy and cuddly like this I just want to explode I love them so much...can't wait for the Bump to arrives, as I suppose it's going to be even better with him/her.

turtle23 · 18/02/2008 17:06

Have just caught up with an old friend who I did maternity nursing with. She was ever so strict in those days. I have just spent an hour with her and her baby in the park, and I can honestly say I want to slap her. I have never seen anything like it. He is 14 months old and she never stops. She gave him 14 biscuits in an hour to keep him quiet (when the dummy wasn't in) and he was playing her to a tee. Please someone shoot me if I follow that path. (He stll doesn't sleep through the night.. )
