HolidaysQueen - I have the exact same problem with hypnobirthing CD - manage to fall asleep as soon as it starts and wake up as soon as it ends! Have no idea what it says on it!

JFly · 26/02/2008 19:12

Thnaks HQ, have emailed back! I fall asleep towards the end of my hypno CD, too. Hope I'm not missing the best parts! I guess I figure it all goes into my subconscious....

Frannie I'm at C&W too. I hadn't heard about the ward closing - do you mean b/c it's full on a particular day and people are re-routed to other hospitals?

I was a little freaked out by the C&W tour and ended up touring St Georges, too, just to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything with their new "birthing suite". Came to the conclusion that a hospital is a hospital and that it will be down to the people on the day. Have met about 5 of the MWs on my team so hoping to at least recognise the person who delivers me. I've had a couple students at appts but there's always a proper MW, too. And they'd never leave you alone to deliver with a student - but they may ask to have one attend. It was suggested that it's nice to have a student there b/c they bring you whatever you may need!

MissingMyHeels · 26/02/2008 19:12

Good luck for Thursday Glam, hope it all goes well.

Has anyone heard from BrazilianMum? She must be cuddling up with her baby now too!

Prisci · 26/02/2008 19:28

HQ, you might hopefully be feeling his bum instead of his head at the top. When are you seeing your midwifes?
Feeling a bit less shocked compared to yesterday, thank you for the support. Also, passed my Driving Test today, hourrah...I was not sure I did, until I got the papers in my hand since the instructor kepts# on barking things, when he said I had passed, I thought I had not heard him properly but could not ask him to repeat since he was so scary indeed and seems so grumpy, that I thought he might change is mind. He was also not writing anything down during the test, that's Bermuda for you...Anyhow I have passed, no more patronizing for a while...
On LO movements, he is also kicking a lot, but because of his position he is pushing in my right ribs with his head and down with his feet, thus the only 'comfy' position at present is standing up or sitting completely upright but at least he stops by 11pm.
Off to drink more raspberry tea (yuck yuck ) do some yoga exercise to try to move LO.

skidoodle · 26/02/2008 19:59

hi all,

just checking in really. good luck over next few days glam

thinking laboured thoughts for jaysthird - are you the first to reach your due date?

thanks for the good wishes sweetkitty, nice to hear from you as always and hope you're enjoying the lovely 20 week things

Paranoid was it you saying you're having "OMG what have I done?" thoughts? I'm definitely having those. I still mostly can't believe a baby will be here soon, cots and chairs and buggies notwithstanding. sometimes when I think of how things are going to change it kind of freaks me out. but then I go back to feeling this whole thing is some kind of strange trick.

PurlyQueen · 26/02/2008 20:05

Counting down the hours until I finish work - right now it's 3.5 and counting unless my boss takes pity on me and lets me go home.

Does anyone else suffer from puffy hands? My rings are feeling a bit tight now. I hope I won't have to get them cut off ...

frannieinthecity · 26/02/2008 20:22

ah Jfly, I'm going on the C&W tour tomorrow night. The midwife said that 2 weeks ago the labour ward was closed because there were too many people, and so they had to find beds for people in other hospitals and that it happens about once every six months. I guess you're right tho' in London a hospital is a hospital eh.

Beginning to see the positives of the student in the room!

Did you say you are due 6th? Good luck! I'm based in Pimlico if you want to meet and share war stories once we are on the other side

aprilfoolsbaby · 26/02/2008 20:50

Wow - there are babies hatching all over the place! I think I may be the last girl standing - not due til March 30th! Is anyone else due then?

Does anyone have any experience of high blood pressure? I woke up this morning with a burst blood vessel in my eye, phoned NHS direct and they told me to get bp checked, went to docs and bp was high. I then went to the pregnancy assesssment unit at the hospital where I had 4 hrs of tests. Bp sky rocketed (probably due to stress!) but calmed down a bit and was allowed to go home with strict instructions to rest. All other tests were fine and mw will check bp on Thursday. I'm panicking about the prospect of pre-eclampsia and don't finish work til next week. Agh!

Has anyone any knowledge of pre-eclampsia? I haven't had a problem throughout the pregnancy and for all this to happen in a day, feel totally shell shocked.

Good luck to those who are waiting for c sections or whose baby's arrival is imminent....

MarchMum · 26/02/2008 20:52

Hi everyone!

I can't believe I am writing to you all with a LO at my side. She's extremely healthy and content and the feeding has been going quite well - bc of being a bit early she still has some fussy/frustrating feeds but I feel pretty lucky. My body is healing well and dh has been phenomenol - am embarased now that I bitched about him not ever having changed a nappy. He has been doing 99% of them!! I am in love with her of course but I think I am equally in love with how ga ga he is over her. We had him do skin to skin with her right after I did and not sure if that's contributing but he's a goner! I am trying to stay out of their way :.) as he goes back to work next week and I get her all summer. She's a very serious baby with pretty rather than cute features. Will post pic on my profile.

We haven't named her yet - is taking forever to agree and of course there are more pressing items to take care of. I am actually quite relaxed about it, don't want to force it!

The text idea is brilliant, I had no ability to get a hold of you all (and you were at the top of my list!!) and nearly cried when turtle texted me.

Not sure the etiquette on the birth story thing - do I post here or on the birth stories pages that mb mentioned awhile ago.

Will you let me stay on the thread??? Feel like an intruder!

PS How weird is this? Miss being pregnant, still want to wear my maternity clothes and refuse to get my other clothes out.

MissingMyHeels · 26/02/2008 21:15

Congratulations MarchMum - so good to hear everything is going well and can't wait to hear your birth story (not sure it matters where you post it, here or birth announcements!). Very reassuring to hear about your DH as I have been worrying a little as my partner doesn't seem to be that interested still!

Please, please stay! I can't imagine missing being pregnant, I am desperate to get this little monkey out now!

turtle23 · 26/02/2008 22:19

MM-Just wish I'd remembered earlier that I had your number in my phone still!! Glad to hear all is well, and cannot wait to hear the whole thing (especially as you had a water birth.) If I were you I'd post it in both places as there are never enough GOOD stories, people always post the traumatic ones. Sooooo pleased for you (and so jealous as well!!)

nezelette · 26/02/2008 23:06

Hi there, anyone still working? I'm due on the 21st and still commuting and teaching full-time, I'm going MAD!!!! I don't even fit into maternity clothes and look like an idiot at work. I'm so tired. Sorry for the rant!! ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT!!!!!

PurlyQueen · 27/02/2008 00:23

Gosh - you are good nezelette!

I made it to today - 35w 4days - and I have just started my maternity leave.
I'm going to spend most of tomorrow in bed - I am just so shattered!

merryberry · 27/02/2008 04:58

Hello MM! Lovely to see you back, internet fixed? Post us some pics, we're baby hungry here!

Aprilfoolsbaby - I had pre-ecampsia misdiagnosed in 1st PG. Do rest, do relaxation, eat healthy, take a few minutes if possible before appts to rest and lower BP before its measured. Drink and eat plenty before appts so your urine chemistry is normal - you can get protein in it just from being hungry!

Do look out for visual disturbances, sudden hand/face/feet swelling, headaches or blood vessel leaks.

Bear in mind that BP does get higher at end of PG for many women. This is a really helpful review of the subject

Congratulations to everyone finally getting their mat leave! And congratulations PRisci on passing your test, you must feel well set up for later in the year!

Good luck tomorrow glammamma! Very excited for you...wishing you a speedy recovery and a quiet post natal ward!

aprilfoolsbaby · 27/02/2008 05:27

MB Thanks for your advice/link. I think I got myself worked up before the bp tests yesterday, but I'm finding it hard to relax.... haven't got hospital bag ready, we're in the middle of having a new bathroom put in and with still being at work. Oh well must get organised.

Out of interest - when did you realise it was misdiagnosed preeclampsia?

merryberry · 27/02/2008 08:38

about a day and a half intot he resuting induction, when a 2nd consultant team reviewed my notes (including lack of protein in urine, and only 1 high BP reading in the whole time, caused by probable use of too small bp cuff) and agreed, loudly, in front of us, that I shouldn't have been induced.

ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!

You must make sure you relax some, somehow!

e14mum · 27/02/2008 09:31

Hi girls!

Marchmum- so good to hear from you. I'm so glad all went well.

Frannie- I'll watch out for your email. I'm booked in at the Barkantine birth centre on the Isle of Dogs (as in e14). But I'll go to the London if I need medical care.

Glam- have you seen the Loreal Mother's Day billboards up? I thought of you! (Not the mature glamorous woman, but more the text!) Can't wait to hear from you and babyGlam

PurlyQueen- take your rings off now while you can get them off!! I've got mine on a necklace as they were starting to get tight. Much better than having to have them cut off later on... my hands are puffy when I wake up but seem to settle down during the day.

Bye for now... pressing things to do like drink tea and such...

HolidaysQueen · 27/02/2008 09:58

e14mum - I too just stopped by to catch up quickly before moving on to the most pressing matter of the day concerning my 10am cuppa. Is it too early to have a homemade chocolate brownie with it? I decided it's not as as I got my blood sugar results back and looks like urine test was just a blip - hurrah!

marchmum - you sound so serene and happy Congratulations!

e14mum · 27/02/2008 09:59

Never too early HQ

littleducks · 27/02/2008 10:13

Have been forced to just lurk since meet up as internet connection wouldnt let me post anything! So much has happened since then! Congrats on babies and commiserations on end of pregnancy aches and pains!

Anyone else feel the earthquake last night?

I'm off to midwives in a min, am 36 wks so should find out if baby is in good position, it hasnt been but im confused which lump is head and which is its bottom now! Will post when i get back if internet is still co operating.

M and S knicker tip- thanks whoever posted that (sorry have to rush now) will pack my knickers now and get some new ones for when i have recovered a bit. Still had lochia, 8 weeks after dd and not looking forward to that again! Hope its over much quicker.

piggyp · 27/02/2008 10:14

Marchmum - congratulations!
Glam - good luck!
HQ - brownies a good idea!

Did anyone else feel the earthquake? It was so scary!! Whole house shaking and horrible noise. I thought it would definately set labour off! (and then call LO 'Richter') Sadly not. Only a few days till due date now and waiting around is getting pretty tiresome - if I go overdue I'll be crazy!

People have started ringing and asking if I am still here - how to reply? 'Yes, you're speaking to me!!'

merryberry · 27/02/2008 10:33

dp felt earthquake, i didn't. it tripped the circuit breaker on my birth pool, so I clambered in this am and thought, oh that's cooler than usual...

spugs · 27/02/2008 10:50

having cup of rasp tea and bowl of dry sugar puffs

good luck to everyone whos booked in for a csection over next few days, cant believe its nearly march!

my best friend from uni rang last night to tell me shes 6 weeks pregnant and little ones due in october seems a loonnnng way away

Jaysthird · 27/02/2008 10:54

morning all. I think the Earthquake set me off a bit...have been having VERY light contractions since about 9. I know things can stop and start at any point, but seeing as though i am due date plus one, i have fingers crossed.....nothing else though, am willing it to be the time!!

Will keep you updated

spugs · 27/02/2008 11:03
